Passing variables in an array to jtextarea?
What method could I use to pass different Strings in an array to a jtextarea each time the "Next" button (a JButton) in my JFrame is pressed? So, for example, if i hit next, i might want the word "frank" to print in the jtextarea, but the next time i hit it, i might want it to print "joe" Thank you!!
This is my code:
public class discardedSaluteMyShorts extends JPanel implements ActionListener
JTextArea textArea;
String newline = "\n";
static final public String NEXT = "next";
public discardedSaluteMyShorts()
super(new BorderLayout());
//Create the toolbar.
JToolBar toolBar = new JToolBar("Still draggable");
addButtons(toolBar);
//Create the text area used for output. Request
//enough space for 5 rows and 30 columns.
textArea = new JTextArea(5, 30);
textArea.setEditable(false);

//Lay out the main panel.
setPreferredSize(new Dimension(450, 130));

First you declare the array and the index you currently are on in your class on the global variables section so for example:
public class discardedSaluteMyShorts extends JPanel implements ActionListener {
private int index = 0;
private String arr[] = new String[] { "frank", "joe" };
// The code would be here
}Then in the method which displays the next value:
public void showNextValue() {
textArea.setText(arr[index]);
index = (index + 1) % arr.length;
}You probably want to call the method from the action performed of the button.

Passing a large 3D-array to a sub vi and back causes huge loss of performance
I am passing a large 3D-Array of type I16 to a sub-vi node of same type, and back to the main VI. For test purposes I have removed all processing in between. Still, the sub-vi call requires many ms to s, depending on array size. I was under the impression that variables are passed to sub-VIs by reference. Is this incorrect? can it be fixed?
JohannesHi Johannes,
(There may be exceptions but) No, variables are not passed and returned by reference.
"A fix" may be possible by restructuring your app such that the large 3d array never gets moved around. This can be done by using what I call an action engine. It uses a variation of the LV2 global to store the large array ONE TIME in a shift register. After that, all other operations are performed "in-place".
This technique has allowed me to process very large data sets "on-the-fly".

I have Labview VIs that have arrays as inputs, I want to pass information in that array to the VI. TestStand already has the Input Buffer setup, but how do I create more input buffers, like array input buffers?? I know that the "Parameters" section in the sequence file is for passing info to subsequences, but that does not help me, Thank you in advance!!
See the TestStand shipping example located in the directory \Examples\AccessingArrays\UsingLabVIEW. This will show you how to pass arrays back and forth from a VI to a sequence variable.
If you are trying to create a step that handles arrays, then you will need to create a new step type that has an array step property. There is an example on the NI web site of a step type that handles arrays. Go to www.ni.com/support and search the Examples Program database using the search string of:
+"step type" +waveform +teststand -
Error produced when trying to pass variables to a Matlab script
For some reason, LabVIEW produces an Error 1047 (Unable to pass variable to the script server) whenever I create an input variable to a Matlab code block.
Outputs work fine (for example, connecting an output "a" to a Matlab code block that says "a=rand(50)" correctly produces a 50x50 array of random numbers that can be displayed in LabVIEW). However, creating any kind of input node, whether or not the associated variable is mentioned in the MATLAB script, brings up an error 1047.
Any ideas what could be causing this? I'm using LabVIEW 7.0 and MATLAB 7 (R14). I've read the article
>here and that's not the problem, and I've also updated my matscript.dll to the latest version, 7.0.0.2, which also made no difference.For what its worth,
I work in a company with a lot of Matlab users, and I,m programming in Labview and Matlab.
When I create a testrig measurement I always have to convert data into Malab format, so I used the script server a lot... exept we have a limited pool of Matlab
licenses so my work was halted whenever the licences where gone.
So I wrote a Write2Matlab vi.
This vi can log data from a measurement and write it in a Matlab readable file format (Matlab6 R12).
After logging you can append more data. It works with(Double,Single,Int32,Int16,U16,U8,String) matrix see for yourself in an example (Write2matlab_test.vi).
Perhaps this is an alternative solution for your problem.
Please send me a reply if you find it usefull.

I have created a few arrays in a frame and am trying to pass
a variable from the main array to choose a second array by passing
a variable using a function after a button is clicked. I use this
code to select the name of the new array:
_root.m1[name].menuTwoID = homeMenu
[0];
from this array
var homeMenu:Array = [["residential", "resMenu"],
["commercial", "comSubMenu"],.....
That should produce a passed variable "resMenu" correct?
It doesn't work later later in a new function when I put it
into:
_root.m2[name].main_text.text = menuTwoID[count-1][0];
to get the names from the second array.
If I put "resMenu" directly in the code (below) it works
fine.
_root.m1[name].menuTwoID = resMenu;
Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong?
ThanksHere's an example of the idea:
I create a menu and when it's clicked try to use the
menuTwoID to pass the name of the new array to create a new sub
menu. But that doesn't work. Is it that's it's a string and not an
array?
var AllColors:Array = [["reds", "colorsOne"], ["blues",
"colorsTwo"]];
var colorsOne:Array = [["Fire Engine", "colors1a"],
["Sunset", "colors1b"]];
var colorsTwo:Array = [["Sky Blue", "colors2a"], ["Cyan",
"colors1b"]];
function buildAllColors() {
var spacing:Number = 20;
for (var i = 0; i < 2; ++i) {
var name:String = "flipper" + i + "_mc";
var y:Number = i * spacing;
_root.m1.attachMovie("flipper", name, i);
_root.m1[name]._x = 0;
_root.m1[name]._y = y;
_root.m1[name].main_text.text = AllColors
[0];
_root.m1[name].menuTwoID = AllColors[1];
_root.m1[name].item_btn.onPress = function () {
itemClicked (this._parent.menuTwoID);
for (var i = 0; i < 2; ++i) {
_root.m1["flipper" + i + "_mc"].flipper_bg._alpha = 50;
this._parent.flipper_bg._alpha = 100;

var spacing:Number = 20;

Pass Variables into AS3 through Query String?
Man! I've been searching ferociously and can't seem to find a solution that works for me. I am trying to pass variables via query string on a PHP page to Flash, and then have the swf add movie clips to the stage depending on the information it receives.
Here is what the PHP outputs:
swfobject.embedSWF("flash/detailScore.swf?a=0-0&b=0-0&c=30-54&d=30-20&e=42-18", ...
And here is my AS3 code:
function loaderInfoSh(e:Event):void{
var myQueryStrings=this.loaderInfo.parameters;
a = myQueryStrings.a;
b = myQueryStrings.b;
c = myQueryStrings.c;
d = myQueryStrings.d;
e = myQueryStrings.e;
addTheResults(a,1);
addTheResults(b,2);
addTheResults(c,3);
addTheResults(d,4);
addTheResults(e,5);
this.loaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loaderInfoSh);
The addTheResults function takes the coordinates, adds a MC instance to the stage and positions it accordingly.
var colorMCArray:Array = new Array();
function addTheResults(val,colnum:Number){
if(val == null){val = "52-46";} // so I can test it locally
var daColor:String;
switch (colnum){
case 1:
daColor = "f3951c";
break;
case 2:
daColor = "74b47d";
break;
case 3:
daColor = "436494";
break;
case 4:
daColor = "9b74ac";
break;
case 5:
daColor = "b43d44";
break;
var dash:int = val.indexOf("-");
var lateral = val.slice(0,dash);
var vertical = val.slice(dash+1);
lateral --;
vertical --;
// adding the MC instance
var comm:tileB = new tileB();
comm.name = "comm"+colnum;
addChild(comm);
colorMCArray[colnum] = comm;
//Change the color
var colorTransform:ColorTransform = colorMCArray[colnum].transform.colorTransform;
var thiscolor = "0x"+daColor;
colorTransform.color = thiscolor;
colorMCArray[colnum].transform.colorTransform = colorTransform;
colorMCArray[colnum].x = 5;
colorMCArray[colnum].y = 536;
colorMCArray[colnum].x += (lateral * 9);
colorMCArray[colnum].y += (vertical * 9)*-1;
colorMCArray[colnum].addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, btnro);
colorMCArray[colnum].addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, btnrout);
I don't know what I'm doing wrong here.Was this the "e" in the code below you were pertaining to as the culprit? "e" is not a keyword. It's just the shortcut for the word "event" for the variable name of type Event which is the Event object that triggered the call of function loaderInfoSh. In your code you assigned e = myQueryString.e which should have given you a type mismatch error.
function loaderInfoSh(e:Event):void{
var myQueryStrings=this.loaderInfo.parameters;
a = myQueryStrings.a;
b = myQueryStrings.b;
c = myQueryStrings.c;
d = myQueryStrings.d;
e = myQueryStrings.e;
addTheResults(a,1);
addTheResults(b,2);
addTheResults(c,3);
addTheResults(d,4);
addTheResults(e,5);
this.loaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loaderInfoSh); -
Passing variables using the URL
in the past I have alsways used internal navigation methods
within Flex - i.e. viewStacks, and linkBars etc... but I need to
use an (existing) external menu and link (communicate) it to my
Flex Application.....
is it possible to pass variable to (into) a flex 2
application using a URL
e.g.
http://...............
?page=homepage
picking this variable ("page") up and getting its value (in
this case "homepage")
and then use the variable in the Flex application to display
the relevent component...... ???
basically, I am trying to navigate through a Flex application
using an external menu system etc...... and displaying the
particular components within the Flex application relevent to the
select links (within the external menu system) communicating the
two using a URL etc......
thanks,
Jon.Passing data into a Flex app using the url on startup
requires working with the html handler, causing it to build
flashvars in the Embed or Object tag. Inside Flex, these are
accessed using the Application.parameters array.
But it sounds like you want ongoing communication between the
Flex app and the browser. For this you should use
ExternalInterface. I have not used it at all, so I can't be any
specific help.

Passing variables from Applescript to bash
Hello,
I'm trying to pass variables from Applescript to bash using the following code
#!/bin/bash
osascript <<EOF
tell application "SystemUIServer"
set username to text returned of (display dialog "Enter your name" with icon caution default answer "" buttons{"Continue"})
set macname to text returned of (display dialog "Enter name of your Mac" with icon caution default answer "" buttons{"Continue"})
do shell script "export USERNAME=" & quoted form of username & " && export MACNAME=" & quoted form of macname
end tell
EOF
echo "USERNAME is $USERNAME, MACNAME is $MACNAME"
but no luck
Mac-mini:Downloads admin$./new.command
USERNAME is , MACNAME is
Any help would be greatly appreciated.I just realized you are returning 2 variables. That can still be handled by echoing/printing the values, you just have to parse the output, or use other tricks.
VALUES=( $(osascript -e '...') )
This would make VALUES an array, with each array element containing one space separate return value from osascript
USERNAME=${VALUES[0]}
MACNAME=${VALUES[1]}
If USERNAME or MACNAME could have spaces in them, you would need to use some kind of separator character. For example if you use @ as the separator you could do something like:
VALUES=$(osascript -e '...')
USERNAME=${VALUES%@*}
MACNAME=${VALUES#*@}
which will %@* will delete everything starting with the @ til the end of the string, and #*@ will delete everything from the beginning of the upto and including the @.
Another trick is to have the return values be properly formed shell variable assignments such as
print "USERNAME='your user name' MACNAME='Your Mac Name' " -- I'm making this up as I do not really know Applescript, so you will have to figure out how to get Applescript to print something that looks like
USERNAME='your user name' MACNAME='Your Mac Name'
In your shell script you have code that looks like:
VALUES=$(osascript -e '...')
eval $VALUES
The eval will execute whatever is stored in $VALUES, and if that happens to look exactly like shell variable assignments, you get the variables created in the current shell context, where can use them. -
Passing variable values to the navigation block
Hi WAD Experts,
I have a requirement regarding passing variable values to the navigation block. User requirement is first give the selections on the selection screen and then after executign output should display in browser. In the output page we have a navigation block. So when user gives selections those selections should also populate in the navigation block. Your help will be appreciated.
Prasad.Hi,
if your variable is 'Changeable at Query Navigation' the chosen values will appear in the Navigationblock.
Variables which are 'Not Changeable at Query Navigation'
will not appear.
You can set this Property when you create a Variable.

How can I pass variables from one project to another using Javascript?
Hi all, I am trying to do this: let learners take one course and finish a quiz. Then based on their quiz scores, they will be sent to other differenct courses.
However, I wish keep track on their previous quiz scores as well as many other variables.
I found this nice widge of upload/download variables by CPguru (http://www.cpguru.com/2011/05/18/save-and-load-data-widget-for-adobe-captivate-4-and-adobe -captivate-5/). However, this widget works by storing variables from one project in local computer and then upload it to another project.
My targeted learners may not always use the same computer though, so using this widget seems not work.
All these courses resided in a local-made LMS which I don't have access to their code. Therefore, passing variables to PHP html files seems not work.
Based on my limited programing knowledge, I assume that using Javascript to pass variables may be the only possible way.
Can someone instruct me how to do this?
Thank you very much.If you create two MIDlet in a midlet suite, it will display as you mentioned means you can't change the display style.

OBIEE 11g How to pass variable from one prompt to another prompt in dashboard page.
How to pass variable from one prompt to another prompt in dashboard page.
I have two prompt in dashboard page as below.
Reporttype
prompt: values(Accounting, Operational) Note: values stored as
presentation variable and they are not coming from table.
Date prompt values (Account_date, Operation_date)
Note:values are coming from dim_date table.
Now the task is When user select First
Prompt value “Accounting” Then in the
second prompt should display only Accounting_dates , if user select “operational”
and it should display only operation_dates in second prompt.
In order to solve this issue I made the
first prompt “Reporttype” values(Accounting, Operational) as presentation
values (custom specific values) and default presentation value is accounting.
In second prompt Date are coming from
dim_date table and I selected Sql results as shown below.
SELECT case when '@{Reporttype}'='Accounting'
then "Dates (Receipts)"."Acct Year"
else "Dates (Receipts)"."Ops
Year" End FROM "Receipts"
Issue: Presentation variable value is not
changing in sql when user select “operation” and second prompt always shows
acct year in second prompt.
For testing pupose I kept this presentation
variable in text object of dashboard and values are changing there, but not in
second prompt sql.
Please suggest the solution.You will want to use the MoveClipLoader class (using its loadClip() and addListener() methods) rather than loadMovie so that you can wait for the file to load before you try to access anything in it. You can create an empty movieclip to load the swf into, and in that way the loaded file can be targeted using the empty movieclip instance name.
