TextEdit - Cannot use "command +" to increase text size

Hi,
In TextEdit, when I select a block of text and try to enlarge it by doing "command +", it just doesn't work. I can only enlarge the text by going "format/font/bigger".

For reasons unknown to me, you have to use Command, Shift and the +. Although Command + works in other apps, it doesn't in TextEdit. I guess it is because the + technically requires a Shift because it is above the =. I know, I know, it works "different" in other apps!

Using "done signing" increases file size 3 to 5 times !

The new feature in Acrobat Reader 10.1.2 onwards is great - I can add a signature and a date.
BUT if I use "done signing" the file size increases 3 to 5 times the original file size ! So I used File Save - and that worked well.
Then I updated to 10.1.6 - and now the signature that I added is not "fixed" - it can be deleted or moved !
We don't want to use digital signatures !!
Any suggestions ?

When you click the "Done Signing" button, the signature appearance and any text you added is flattened and becomes regular page contents and it won't be able to be moved or deleted as you describe. I also don't see a file size increase as you describe. Are you using an image for the signature and if so, how large is it (in bytes)?

Increase text size for macbook air.

The text is a bit too small for me across email/internet/pages etc.

If you are using Safari, from the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Try the font accessibility feature. Or, from the Safari menu bar click View > Zoom In or Zoom Out. You can also elect to choose Zoom Text Only.
For Mail. From the Mail menu bar click Mail > Preferences then select Fonts & Colors
If none of the above help, try a different screen resolution.
Open System Preferences > Displays > Display then select Scaled.
And try System Preferences > Accessibility > Zoom

In the Finder, choose Show View Options from the View menu. This opens up a panel that allows you to increase or decrease text or icon size on the Desktop. Repeat the process with a Finder window open, and be sure to choose the "All windows" option.

Increase Text Size problem

When someone increases the size of the text, I want the box
(div) the text is in to expand outwards - up and down and left and
right.
In Firefox 3 it will expand up and down only.
IE6 it has the same problem as Firefox 3
IE7 will expand in all directions as wanted.
Question: What do I need to do so it will expand in all
directions when someone is using Firefox 3 and IE6?

In IE7, if you change the text size ( View > Text Size
> Largest) instead of
zooming the whole page (ctrl+ +), you'll see it only expands
up and down
just like FF.
The fix:
Change the width of the div to ems instead of px.

Increase text size reading

In page view on an iPhone, the reader displays the whole page, but the text is minuscule; is there a way to increase the text size without having to scroll back and forth? Is it possible to have editorial formatting?

thank you for your response. I am aware of the gestures used to zoom in and out; what I would like to avoid is the constant to-ing and fro-ing that is inevitable upon magnification. Apparently, there is no feature to remedy this issue, which is a shame.

Hi Ravikumar,
As Sukanta has suggested create a Simpletype of String Type and Length 40.
Then create a context for the column header and for its type, instead of choosing
from the drop down, choose the 3 dots.
In the window that appears, select Local Dictionary, and Select the Simpletype
that you have created, from the respective package name. And click OK.
This will make the text of ColumnHeader of type String and Length 40.

The only way to change the text size is to reduce the number of columns for the contact sheet and then it's not a lot different.

Apple Mail - cannot use "command b" anymore?

Keyboard shortcut to make selected text bold (command b) has stopped working. I have "Fonts" menu open and see it switch from regular to bold, but no change in the email body.

did you get any resolution to this? my emails will no longer bold and the font in my inbox is all jacked up. ever since the snow leopard update. using helvetica 12 for mail messages but I don't get any bold. just an error sound when I try.

Cannot use ring tones for text tones anymore

I have been told that I can no longer use my ring tones that I have purchased as text tones, which irritates me because that is the main reason I purchased them. But it is true, if you put them with a contact and they text you, you hear nothing. Is there any way to fix that.
Question # 2 Why are my text tones now a lot softer than they used to be. I can't hear them most of the time, so when I look at my phone I have tons of texts and I didn't even know it. I keep it right next to me also, so it is not like it is in another room. That is one reason I liked the music tones for the texts because I knew it was different and could hear. Now they are all little delicate tones that nobody can hear and I can't figure a way to turn them up. The phone is turned up all the way. Plus they said now I have to purchase alert tones to use for my texts and I looked and the selection *****. Mostly dispicable me and stuff like that. I am a 56 year oldl woman and I don't want star wars, and that sort of stuff on my phone. Help please if you can. Please let me know as I do not check the communities often. I usually get lost.

Cmd brings up dashboard, can I change it? I used to use it to change the text size in Pages

Upgraded to lion and all is good. However, cmd+ has been hyjacked by the OS to bring up the dashboard. I use cmd+ and cmd- to change the text size in Pages. Is there a way to change the Lion keyboard shortcuts to get the functionality back for Pages? The cmd- still works to reduce text size in Pages, so it's even more frustrating that cmd+ does something else.

Well on my MBP running Lion 10.7.2 Command+ or - does not do anything, and that is using either Command+ or Command(+ shift)+. I do not have pages installed.
The point is that Command+ and Command- should control the text size in Pages (we're not talking about any othr program, just Pages). Those are hard-set (programmed in the software) keyboard commands for Pages.
In Pages, Command+ should increase the text size, and not bring up the Dashboard. And that is the OP's problem - that command is bringing up Dashboard, which it should not do. Apparently there is some setting somewhere that is causing Command+ to do the wrong thing - and that's what we're trying to find.
So at least on my MBP Command+ certainly does not bring up the Dashboard....
Good - it's not supposed to, nor is that what the OP wants.
By the way, if you use Safari and/or Mail, you'll find that Command+ and Command- adjust the text size in those programs. Ditto Numbers, TextEdit, Bean, and many other programs - it's a fairly common assignment, hence not one which usually needs to be added via Keyboard Shortcuts.

I inadvertently pressed CTRL+ another key (possibly V or B or N) and the text size of my bookmarked page was significantly reduced in size. I can't read it. How do I re-set the text size?

The text size shrank to a size that is useless to me, but I cannot seem to get the text size re-set to normal. Indeed all of the formatting on the page has been reduced (symbols, instructions, frames etc). Existing Firefox and returning to the bookmarked page makes no difference. How do I re-set the system?

If you're using IE, click on View, Text Size and then whatever size you'd like. You'll see the changes on the screen and it should print out the same way.
