Texture on Curve

I've been using Photoshop for a very long time and can't believe I've never figured out a decent way to do this, but I appreciate your help in advance.
I have a work path that has some curves in it. I have a texture that I've created that I need to fill this path with. The problem is that the texture stays uniform to itself instead of curving around the corners in the path like it would in 'real' life. I expect this, but don't know how to get around it.
If I search "texture on curve" in Google it thinks I want tutorials on using curves in photoshop.
Anyway, help is appreciated!
OSX, PSCS3

Sonic - there is one more way using displacement mapping. You can use actions to generate an alpha channel and then run the displace filter using that channel for each shape - certainly quicker, if you set it up properly, than using liquify or warp it will make a predictable distortion of your texture around the surface.
The disadvantage with this are its a very old filter and some of the resampling doesn't seem to be up to scratch any more - stick to higher higher res files

  • Photoshop CS6 Extended Load/Replace Texture Command Issues

In the 3d Materials Panel in Adobe Photoshop Extended CS6, the REPLACE TEXTURE and LOAD TEXTURE commands for the 3d materials seem to create a single  "smart" texture that all other textures created via the "replace/load texture" commands link to.
For instance, to texture a sphere using a Photoshop file, I first created a file called "horizontal stripes for 3d peel.psd" and saved it on my desktop.
I went to the Materials Panel>Diffuse>(Clicked icon to right of "Diffuse") and chose "Load Texture>"horizontal stripes for 3d peel.psd," to apply it to my sphere.  I then edited this diffuse file by right-clicking the icon to the right of "Diffuse," choosing "Edit" and adding a color layer at the top of the layer stack, then saving (not saving as) and closing the Diffuse .PSB smart object  file.
I then loaded a texture to the Opacity material of my sphere using the same Photoshop file on my desktop called "horizontal stripes for 3d peel.psd",
going to Materials Panel>Opacity>(Clicking the  icon to the right of "Opacity") and choosing "Load Texture>"horizontal stripes for 3d peel.psd,"  When I opened this file to edit it by right-clicking the icon to right of "Opacity" and choosing "Edit," I found I'd loaded not the original file on my desktop that I had chosen, but my edited "Diffuse" file. Furthermore, these Diffuse and Opacity files appear not to be independently editable--they behave like linked Smart Objects, and when one is edited, the other is updated with the changes.
Is this a bug? I can't find any mention of this behavior in the Photoshop User Manual. I'm using Windows 7, and I get the same behavior on 2 different computers with Photoshop.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/3d-panel-settings-photoshop-extended.html
I had hoped to use the Load/Replace texture command as a quick way to load up independently editable versions of the same file to the different 3d material attributes (opacity, shine, etc.), but that doesn't seem possible.   Or is there a better way to do this?
    Thanks!
    Jeff Combs

    Postscript:
I just started working with Extruded 3d shapes, and 3d text, and, as it turns out, this is actually a dandy feature, since these 3d objects each contain multiple elements to apply textures to (ex. Front Inflation Material, Front Bevel Material, Extrusion Material, etc.) that would be pain to edit individually, rather than via a single Smart Layer, especially if you plan to use the same materials for each.
So, anyway, onwards to more adventures as I climb the Photoshop 3d learning curve. I've been a wee-bit frustrated that this learning curve seems to be more difficult because the Adobe Photoshop_CS6 reference PDF file seems to reference mostly CS5 and, more often than not, references CS5 interfaces. For instance, in the CS6 manual—the sections on 3d concepts and Tools, 3d Panel Settings, 3D rendering and saving—to name a few—all explicitly refer to Photoshop CS5 Extended! So, if anyone knows of a detailed source of CS6 information, I’d be grateful.

  • Isolating part of photo/texture question

    Hello
I have a photo (attached) and wish to do two things with it. I hope a) to emphasise both the earthenware texture of the vase and its wooden background to give the image some contrast and b), to recolour the brown fence in royal blue. I have tried to do this using the eyedropper tool and then Image | Adjustments | Replace colour, but because the vase itself is coloured in a shade of brown I find that in addition to blue replacing brown as the fence colour, it also replaces it as the colour of the vase.
So, I somehow need to 'lift' the vase from the image, then recolour the fence in isolation, and then put the vase back into the photo - but I am not sure how to do that.
    Thanks for any ideas.
    Steve

As advised, the first think you need to do is sperate the vase from the fence.  You could just mask it, but much better to select the vase, and copy it to a new layer.  The Pen tool would be the best method with smooth shapes like that, but Quick select followed by Refine edge will work OK.
Then place a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer between the fence and copied vase layers, and move the Hue slider to get the colour you want.  Fine tune with the saturation and Lightness sliders.  I did the same for the Vase because red and blue, make you spew.  If you do the same think you need to clip the second Hue/Saturation layer to the vase layer byr Alt clicking the join between the two layers.
To bring out the texture use a couple of Curves layers, clipping one to the vase and other to the background.  Click on the scrubby slider icon, and click on a mid-tone of the fence or vase, (depending on which you are working on.  That places a point on the curve.  Drag this point up a wee bit, and place another point a little lower, and drag it down a wee bit.  I actually used the Topaz Detail filter.

  • [Flash CS5.5] bug movieclips dont show/Really Slow on High Quality Textures

I have been using flash cs5.5 for a while now , and I start this project 3-4 days ago. Ever since I started to add in high texture in it, The program Freezes alot.
I export my project as a swf and theres no lag at all in it.(thanks to Render:Cache as Bitmap)
A bug happen when ALL the MovieClips/images/bitmaps No longer can be seen but u can click on it.
    As u can see.
The visible is check in too.
All I was doing is moving the movieclips/images/bitmaps(high detail 2000x1000 big) around and this happen.
Also the program gets crazy laggy when high details are added. Then again , I export my project as a swf and theres no lag on the swf, full fps.
    if this helps
    intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20 GBHz
    3.19 GHz , 2.00 GB of RAM
After Reloading the hole file, everything is back to normal , but it still does this bug and its really slow. I cant Continue my project because of this bug.
Flash barely use my ram or cpu.
    Help?

Not for nothing but P4 single core CPUs are outdated by about 6 years. From your graphic I can see you're not using a version of flash in your era.
That doesn't excuse freezing but your CPU in this day and age is basically a solar powered calculator. Most people have an ancient dual core 2+GHz system with 2-8GB ram. You're excessively behind the CPU curve. With that CPU you're running DDR400 on top of it.
We're at DDR3 now (PC12xxx depending on your wallet).
Please don't take this wrong but "high res" and "Pentium 4" should not be in the same sentence. I'm fairly sure you cannot even play 720p HD video let alone 1080p HD video on that processor with windows (maybe linux). How do you expect flash to react being much more complex?
Your best option is to lighten the load on that old rig. Disable any antivirus software or anything else running to give your updated flash the best possible chance to run well given your computers limitations. Efficiency being king, sometimes people thing 3ghz = 3ghz. It doesn't. A 3ghz modern CPU will blow away your old 3ghz computer. This is not apples to apples.

  • How to create this texture?

this is a common texute I've seen around, but I am not very familar with the filters in photoshop/illustrator, can any boday help me to finally figure this out?
    Thanks in advance!

Gary, if you look closely, you can see a fine dot pattern overlaying the image, and that would probably be better described as a texture than the cartoon like reduced colour bit depth.
You can add the fine dots using Filter > Sketch > Half tone.  Add a new layer above the graphic, and fill with 50% grey.  Apply the Halftone filter to it, and set its blend mode to Overlay.  It's the same method as non destructive dodge and burn, or course, but it works very nicely for adding noise, or texture non-destructively.  You can edit the texture layer directly, or do a non-destructive edit to your non-destructive texture, by clipping a levels or curves adjustment layer to it.

  • Text on a curve or circle

After three years away from Director, in the 3D world, I am
back working on a Director project again. It feels like I am
getting re-aquainted with an old friend. There is lots of catching
    up to do.
My question is: How can I display text on a curve or circle.?
I remember that there used to be an Xtra that allowed this but I
can't find it. A search of previous post suggested using Flash. A
solution that uses imaging lingo would be useful since the text
will be rendered as a texture on a 3D object.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello
Some times ago, I posted a script putting text on a circle.
It is a long one so I offer that you send a mail to:
    koenigPERIODyvanATtele2PERIODfr
to use this “crypted” mail address:
    change PERIOD to .
    change AT to @
    change PERIOD to .
and please, don’t put the true address in a forum’s message.
I will be able to send you the script as an attachment.

  • Add a texture to a gradient background

I have a web mock-up with a gradient background.  This is just a rectangle with a gradient fill at the bottom layer.  I would like to add a texture to my background.  Just some noise or a parchement or something.  I don't know how to do it.  I would like the texture to have the colour of the background of course and be fairly indistinct.
Could you just give me a few pointers please
    Thanks
    Martin

    Many thanks
    That's it.
I think I was trying to approach it in a Photoshoppy kind of way.  Strkes me this was a bit easier than how I would have done it in PS.
Anyway, I'm another couple of degrees up that learning curve!

  • 3d render blurs texture

    Hi,
I have a 3d cube with textures on each side. It's a picture of a wine package. Every time I try to render the image, Photoshop leaves some areas fuzzy and blurred, even worse than in the draft version of the image. In the attached picture you can see, that the right side of the image is rendered just fine, but the left side looks fuzzy and blurred, even pixelated.
I've had the same problem every time I've used 3d with textures in Photoshop. I'm quite good with Photoshop, but the 3D features is new to me, so I might be doing something wrong.
I know there's at least two other people in this forum with the same problem, neither of whom have gotten an answer to their question. My best guess at the moment is that Photoshop rendering engine is ******, but I hope I'm wrong.
Thanks for any help you can give.
    Joona

Yeah, the rendering takes ages :/ But as I'm only doing some small things with 3D, I don't really want the learning curve of Blender.
Keyshot looks really great, but since I don't directly earn from 3D stuff, it's a bit pricey for me. I mainly just use 3D to make nice pictures for my graphic design portfolio. Yesterday I stumbled across Cheetah3D, and that seems to be better for my price range (90€), and I think it has enough features for a 3D amateur as myself.
Anyway, I think I might have figured out the blurry render problem. One of my textures was high resolution, but it was in wrong aspect ratio. Fixing that fixed the problem. I think the texture should've worked fine with wrong proportions too, but changing that seemed to fix the problem anyway.
If you have any suggestions about Cheetah3d, I'd be happy to hear them out
    Thanks everyone!

  • Mini DVI to Video Curving

    Hi,
I just bought a mini-DVI to video cable and am hooking my macbook up to my tv through a composite video cable. It's not working properly and the picture on the tv curves at the edges, almost like it's projecting an image onto a regular tv that has a curved screen. My tv is a flat-screen CRT, not a curved one, and I can't find any options to change the settings so that it won't try to project a curved image. Anyone know anything on this?

reamsjp is right. That curving is in your TV. It is even present when you are watching normal TV programs but it can be hard to tell without straight lines in the image to reference. But if you really go looking for it, say by putting a TV guide table up on the screen that has a lot of straight lines in it, you will be able to see the same curvature.
Hopefully your TV has a submenu for making some adjustments as reamsjp says, but likely you won't be able to improve it much. It's the nature of the beast, flat screen or not.

  • Curve 8520 cannot send/receive calls or SMS when in range of WiFi - since foreign holiday

Re-posting this in the Curve forum, where it belongs... hoping someone can help.
Recently the whole family went to Spain for two weeks. All four of our phones (a Google Nexus 4, a BB Curve 9300 and two BBCurve 8520s) worked OK in Spain, connected to local mobile networks, sent and received texts and so on.
Since returning to the UK, the BlackBerry handsets have all had problems getting re-registered to our home network (giffgaff, which uses the O2 network, as I understand it). The nexus has been fine from the moment we got back, but the BB handsets are not.
The symptoms: when in range of a registered WiFi connection, the phones cannot send or receive texts (SMS) or make or receive calls, when out of range of WiFi, they do (sometimes) succeed. It is as though the WiFi settings are over-ruling the service books / HRT for the mobile network.
The 9300 seems to have sorted itself out, thanks (possibly) to an OS upgrade. The 8520s remain basically useless.
We have tried: battery pulls, SIM pulls, manual network registration, clearing the service books and re-registering, switching SIM cards between the phones (whichever SIM is in the 9300 works OK, whichever SIM is in the 8520 does not work), OS upgrade.
The network shows on the handset screen, and connection is shown as EDGE. But calls do not get connected and SMS messages fail with "too many retries". Attempts to re-register the handset result in a message being received that the handset has been registered but it makes no difference.
The network provider (giffgaff) say they have done everything they can, and I should speak to "an engineer" - but it seems very unlikely to me that all three phones suffered a hardware fault while flying home from Spain, and that the 9300 somehow fixed itself. So I'm convinced it is a registration issue, but giffgaff are not exactly confident in their support for BB.
So - has anyone ever seen this behaviour before, and how can we fix it?
    Thanks

  • Why is the "Free texture" not available to Photoshop Photography Plan subscribers?

I have subscribed to the Adobe CC Photography Plan since August 2013.  Today I received an email from Adobe with the subject line "New Benefits Added to your Creative Cloud Photography Plan."  The email linked to a web page.  On that page, I clicked the link "Enter the Magical World of Trey Ratcliff."  On that page, there was a link "Free Adobe Photoshop CC texture" (http://inspire.adobe.com/2014/11/7/free_adobe_photoshop_cc_texture.html).  I decided to try the texture - Metal Texture 08 by Niklas K. Andersen.
Using the Creative Cloud Desktop app on Windows, I found my way to the Market.  For you information, this was my first time using the Market feature.  When I attempted to add it to "My Library," I got the message
"Market Assets are a Premium feature only available to 'CC Complete' and 'Single App' members"
    Two questions:
as a subscriber to the CC Photography Plan, am I not a 'Single App' member?
If the answer to (1) is no, then why doesn't Adobe make it clear that the "Free Texture" is only for premium subscribers?

  • Caller ID not working on 8330 Curve

Does anyone know how to fix the caller ID on my 8330 curve. Incoming calls from my address book are coming in as "unknown number" - its only some of the contacts, not all. BB supprt and Sprint couldn't figure it out.
    Thanks!

First, go into the Phone app (press the Green [Call] button), then hit the [Menu] button (button to the LEFT of the TrackBall) and select Options --> Smart Dialing.  Make sure your Country Code and Area Code are set correctly.
Also, make sure that phone numbers in your Address Book entries are formatted like a phone number.  The most standard format is:
    +1 (123) 123-1234
    for the US.

I have a xxx.jpg file. I'd like to use this image to set the background texture of a JPanel.
Can someone give me a piece of code to do that.

Since I haven't had no response, I have investigated more and finally solved my problem. Maybe it may help other people to have the answer.
Here is the piece of code which works fine.
