TFS 2010 to TFS 2013 Migration stuck at step 13

Hi,
We've been trying to migrate our TFS 2010 collections to TFS 2013, but we always get stuck at Step 13 of 793.  We tried 3x already.  For the first try we waited around 8 hours, and decided to just restart.  On the second try, we waited for more
than 13 hours and still no joy.  And the third try is still going.
We are using Windows Server 2012 R2 for both Application Tier and SQL Server.  Windows 2008 R2 for Sharepoint Server.  SQL Server 2012 with SP1 Standard for the SQL Server.
Our TFS 2010 is a single server setup (Windows 2008 R2).  And we are migrating now to a tiered architecture (a separate machine for sharepoint, another for SQL Server and another for the application tier).  Could this be what's causing the 'stuck'?
I've followed the ALM rangers document, followed the requirements (i.e. Windows version, SQL Server version, etc), read articles from forums and I think we've done everything that we need to. Note that we tried migrating to TFS 2012 ages ago and it did
migrate successfully, but we're thinking TFS 2013 is available now so might as well go to TFS 2013.  Do we need to migrate to TFS 2012 first?  But that's what the documents say, TFS 2010 can be a direct migration to TFS 2013, right?
There are four collections in our TFS 2010, and the other three migrates fine.  It's the DefaultCollection that is getting stuck.  The default collection is around 170GB in size.   When we did the migration to TFS 2012 before, it was 150GB in
size and finished in around 5 hours.
Can anyone let me know or point me to the right direction on how to address this issue?  I've looked at the logs and can't see anything that stands out; no errors mentioned.  Is there anything else that I could look at?  Or is ther any profiling
that I can enable to see what might be causing the issue?  I've searched google and only found a couple forums that has the same issue.  One was resolved because of the Max Parallelism and we did that one as well but still no joy.
Appreciate any ideas.  Thanks heaps.
Kindest regards,

Hi,
Thanks for your post.
What's the result of your third try?
What's the document are you following?
From TFS upgrade requirements, You can upgrade TFS 2013 from Team Foundation Server 2010 directly.
If you’re using SQL Server 2012 with SP1, we recommend you also apply
cumulative update 2 on top of SP1 to address a critical SQL Server bug around resource consumption. This isn’t a hard requirement because the bug only affects a small number of instances, but we wanted you to be aware of it. If you don’t apply CU2, you
should apply a SQL Server hotfix (KB2793634) to addresses another (different) issue where SQL Server 2012 with SP1 might request an excessive amount of restarts.

  • Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 Migration and Architect a resilient and high availability exchange setup

    Hi,
I currently have a single Exchange 2010 Server that has all the roles supporting about 500 users. I plan to upgrade to 2013 and move to a four server HA Exchange setup (a CAS array with 2 Server as CAS servers  and one DAG with 2 mailbox Servers). My
goal is to plan out the transition in steps with no downtime. Email is most critical with my company.
Exchange 2010 is running SP3 on a Windows Server 2010 and a Separate Server as archive. In the new setup, rather than having a separate server for archiving, I am just going to put that on a separate partition.
Here is what I have planned so far.
    1. Build out four Servers. 2 CAS and 2 Mailbox Servers. Mailbox Servers have 4 partitions each. One for OS. Second for DB. Third for Logs and Fourth for Archives.
    2. Prepare AD for exchange 2013.
    3. Install Exchange roles. CAS on two servers and mailbox on 2 servers. Add a DAG. Someone had suggested to me to use an odd number so 3 or 5. Is that a requirement?
    4. I am using a third party load balancer for CAS array instead of NLB so I will be setting up that.
    5. Do post install to ready up the new CAS. While doing this, can i use the same parameters as assigned on exchange 2010 like can i use the webmail URL for outlook anywhere, OAB etc.
    6. Once this is done. I plan to move a few mailboxes as test to the new mailbox servers or DAG.
    7. Testing outlook setups on new servers. inbound and outbound email tests.
once this is done, I can migrate over and point all my MX records to the new servers.
Please let me know your thoughts and what am I missing. I like to solidify a flowchart of all steps that I need to do before I start the migration.
thank you for your help in advance

    Hi,
okay, you can use 4 virtual servers. But there is no need to deploy dedicated server roles (CAS + MBX). It is better to deploy multi-role Exchange servers, also virtual! You could install 2 multi-role servers and if the company growths, install another multi-role,
and so on. It's much more simpler, better and less expensive.
CAS-Array is only an Active Directory object, nothing more. The load balancer controls the sessions on which CAS the user will terminate. You can read more at
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2014/03/05/load-balancing-in-exchange-2013.aspx Also there is no session affinity required.
First, build the complete Exchange 2013 architecture. High availability for your data is a DAG and for your CAS you use a load balancer.

  • Lync 2010 to Lync 2013 migration - Dialin conferencing

While migrating from Lync 2010 to Lync 2013, i have stopped all services on the Lync 2010 servers to make sure all is okay and everything is working fine with Lync 2013.
Nevertheless, when someone on Lync 2013 schedule a meeting, and someone dial one of the PSTN Dialin conference number and enter the conference ID, this scenario is not working.
If i start the Lync 2010 front end services, then the previous scenario works.
So i did something else. I have scheduled a meeting and i change the meeting options to get a new conference ID. this makes the conference work over dial in pst number while Lync 2010 services are down.
    This means:
    - When someone (Lync 2013 user) schedule a meeting, the default conference ID that is generated, requires the existence of Lync 2010 services for a PSTN Dial in user to connect
-When someone (Lync 2013 user) schedule a meeting and change the meeting options to get a new conference ID, then the PSTN Dial in user can connect even if all Lync 2010 services are down.
    Any clue?
    ammarhasayen

i have found it. moving the conference directories from Lync 2010 to Lync 2013 solves the whole thing.

  • Office 2010 vs. 2013 - migrating from XP to W7

I have a client with >200 PCs, and about 50 already run W7 with Office 2010. The remaining 150+ XP PCs are currently being migrated to W7, and the client wants to stay with Office 2010, as they have already purchased 50 or so licenses for their existing
    W7 PCs.
I am finding Office 2010 licenses harder and harder to find, and much more expensive since Office 2013 was released. The client also has plans to add 50+ PCs during Q4 2014 when a new location is opened. I am hesitant to proceed with their direction,
if 2010 licenses become no longer available. I know that MS has discontinued sales, and vendors will only be allowed to continue to sell 2010 until their inventory is depleted. My client is aware of this, but they do not want to standardize on 2013 because
they feel they would then have wasted their money buying the roughly 50 copies of 2010. And they do not want a mishmosh of 2010/2013 in their company, they want to be all on the same version.
Any advice?I do not want to move them away from Office (to openoffice, Corel, or worse!) but if I can't get them standardized on 2010 they may be forced to move to another platform or worse decide to find a new IT consultant. They understand this is not
my fault per se, but they blame me for not anticipating this during the last few years when I recommended Office 2010 for their new W7 PCs. No good deed goes unpunished as they say.

    Hi
Since it is hard to purchase Office 2010, you can take Office 2013 and downgrade to Office 2010.
However downgrade rights are only available for volume licenses.

  • Migrating from Git to TFS 2013

    Hi,
I have TFS 2013 and want to migrate GIT source code to TFS. I was able to migrate the code with history but want to ask for a way where by I can keep branches also intact. I want to give away from GIT and want to use Git support from TFS itself.
    Thanks,
    Suman

    Hi Suman,
Since you use GitHub, and it's a 3rd party hosted service which like Visual Studio Online(TFS online). Actually, you can connect to Git team project of Visual Studio Online and publish your git repository to GitHub. And also connect to the git repository
via Team Explorer. As for Visual Studio Online, Microsoft is working on adding support to allow Git repos to be added to
TFVC team projects in the near future. Check the user voice for more info:
    http://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/121579-visual-studio/suggestions/3612921-support-converting-tfs-online-project-from-tfsvc-t
For your scenario, you might need to move from GitHub to TFS git repostiry, then import a git repository to TFS. Please check the links below for the detailed information:
    https://tomkrueger.wordpress.com/2013/05/13/move-from-github-to-tfs-git-repository/

  • TFS 2012 work items migration to TFS 2013 along with History,Links/Attachments & Custom fields??

    Dear All,
TFS 2012 work items migration to TFS 2013 along with History,Links/Attachments & Custom fields?? is there any way..
    Tried couple of tools:
    1) Excel based migration : loss of data is custom fields, links, attachments, status
    2) few tools in Code plex : Crashing/Not working.
Kindly provide your valuable comments here.
    Cheers, Tarun

    Hi Tarun,
I'd like to know the tools that you used in CodePlex. Generally, CodePlex project is not supported in MSDN forum, and you can post your questions and concerns in the issue secton of the project.
If you use TFS integration tools, according to this
blog, it is limited to migrating only Version Control items, Work Items, and the links between them. Please check the limiation and have a check with your migration. For the customized fields, you might need to do the same customizatoin on the target
    team project.

  • Could TFS 2013 build service connect to TFS 2010 server?

I am using the TFS 2010 since 2011, both TFS 2010 Server and TFS 2010 build service are installed on a separate Windows 2008 R2 x64 Server, I have application written in C# and .net 4.0 framework.
Recently, I want to upgrade the application to .net framework 4.5. I installed a Windows 2012 R2 x64 server and installed a TFS 2013 build service (since TFS 2010 build service doesn't support Windows 2012 R2 x64 server); however, the TFS
2013 build service seem to be not support the TFS 2010 server.
I need the old TFS 2010 build service to build the bug fix .net framework 4.0 (with other old dependency library) package for production and I need a new TFS 2013 build service to build the next version .net framework 4.5 (with upgrade dependency library) application.
Both new and old TFS build service have to be co-exist.
Does anyone know if it is possible to let TFS 2013 build service work with TFS 2010 server?
Or any suggestion on this scenario?

    Hi  Panco,
Based on your description, you can use TFS 2010 build service to build the .net framework 4.0 and .net framework 4.5 applications. You need to install the corresponding dependencies on the bulid machine before building. And also build on the build machine
locally make sure you can build successfully locally before TFS build.
Since you already set up TFS 2013 build service, you can configure it to a team project collection in TFS 2010 to have a try. As far as I know, seems it's fine to do the building. If you have other considerations or concerns, please elaborate
    more details about your scenario.

  • Reports Migration from TFS 2008 to TFS 2013.

    Hi There,
We wanted to migrating reports(integrated with TFS 2008) to new report server(integrated with TFS 2013) using RDL pull and push method using rs.exe tool. later planning to rebuild Tfs_Warehouse and Tfs_Analysis. Below are my queries:
If i migrate the reports using pull and push method will those report.rdl files still work with TFS2013 re-built data or
Should i upgrade the entire ReportServerDB? If so, does report.rdl files under go any changes during upgrade?
please guide me if my understanding is wrong and suggest me what should be taken care if i follow pull and push method.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Manoj C N,
If you can migrate your report server database, it would be better to migrate the Reporting service databases to new report server since the data will not be changed.
About the existing reports, please elaborate more details and the result after taking the methods. But for moving reports, you can also download the existing reports and upload to the new report server. Refer to the link below for more information:

  • BizTalk 2010 and BizTalk 2013 R2 on a single TFS 2010 build machine

    Hello,
We are running two BizTalk environments ( BizTalk 2010 and BizTalk 2013 R2). All our BizTalk 2010 applications are using a single build machone on TFS 2010. We are planning to use the same build server for BizTalk 2013
R2 as well. As a prerequisite, we need to install the below two components,
    1. .NET Framework 4.5
    2. Microsoft BizTalk Server 2013 - Project Build Component (under Additional Software)
Will the single build server support BizTalk 2010 project build component and BizTalk 2013 R2 project build component. We don't want to have any conflict on the build server. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the answer. As its a dedicated build server, we are planning to install only the Project Build Components ( one is for BizTalk 2010 and another one is for BizTalk 2013 R2). We are not planning to install any of the other BizTalk server
components on the build server. Is that true that we can't even install multiple versions of project build components? Thanks in advance.

  • TFS 2013 - Convert project to branch

    Hi,
id like to get some expert advise here.
End 2013 we have migrated from TFS 2010 to TFS 2013. All good so far, very happy with TFS 2013.
On "feature" in TFS 2010 was to create a new project as a branch of another team project. This is how have worked for a long time and are still doing.
But in 2013 this option is gone. So what we have done is create a new empty team project and then merge from the other team project (main). This then becomes a baseless merge, with no relationship to the parent folder.
I noticed an option to convert the root of a team project to a branch, but i cannot really find what changes this will make.
Can you please advise what the best way is to create "branched" projects.
We have about 8 team projects under the main project that are not linked. Is it possible to link those ?
What is the best way to create a new team project that is suppose the be a branch of the other team project ? Im guessing it requires the main project to be a branch. Is that safe to change ?
I hope you can advise here. We do have future plans to migrate our branched project to a branch folder in a new team project and create new team branches (foldeR) from there, thus all working on the same team project as recommended.
But untill then we need to stick with this and i like to improve the experience.
    looking forward to your reply.
    Regards,
    Nico

    Hi Nico,
    Thanks for your reply.
I did a mistake, so I deleted the previous reply. Please refer to below information.
The Branch option will try to create a new branch folder first, then create branch relationship between the source branch and new created branch(target branch) automatically.
In your scenario, as you have created the Main.test team project, it means the target branch has already existed, so you cannot use the
Branch option, because Branch operation always try to create a new branch with the name which your provided in
Target Branch Name textbox. So if there’s the target branch existed, you can only merge from your Main team project(needn't convert to folder) to Main.test team project first, then create branch relationship between them(Reparent).

  • Unable to connect TFS 2013 from Visual Studio 2005

    Hi Team,
Our customer had recently migrated all TFS Projects in Team Foundation Server from  2010 to 2013  (which has  .NET 2.0,3.5 and 4.0 Projects)  as well. We are facing one critical issue for some developers working in Visual Studio 2005
projects after migrating to TFS 2013, were unable to use their VS 2005 Projects with TFS 2013 server.
We installed the following software in the order
    VS 2005 professional edition
    Team Explorer 2005
    VS 2005 SP1
    Forward Compatibility Patch SP1
    MSSCCI Plugin for TFS 2013
    Team Explorer 2013
We have also referred the below msdn links to resolve the problem

    SaranRam

    Hi SaranRam,
It's suggested to use the same version of VS and TFS, and it would be better to use Visual Studio/Team Explorer 2013 to work with TFS 2013.
For your situation, you can have a try to Team Explorer 2013 separately to connect to the team project in TFS 213 and work with the upgraded projects. You can also have a check on other machines to see if it works for you. Another option is clean team founation
cache to see if it's related to your credential. Also view event logs to see if there any useful information.
About the second link you referred, please have a double check if  you have configured it properly. And elaborate more details if the issue persists.

  • Move a project from TFS 2008 to TFS 2013

Hi, we are using 2 TFS servers in our company. TFS2008 and TFS2013 SP4. Now I need to migrate  one project (of 6) from TFS 2008 to TFS2013 with all the history and documents from SharePoint services. The TFS2008 is runnig on Windows Server 2008
x86 and SQL 2005 and WSS. TFS2013 is running on Windows Server 2012 R2 nad SQL2012 and SharePoint Server 2010.
I have found some discussions with this topic, most of them with backuping and restoring databases. But it was from TFS 2008 to TFS 2013 using TFSconfig.exe import. But this tool is not available in TFS 2013. Is it possible to do such task without installing
    single use TFS2010?
    Thanks, regards Martin

    Hi Martin,
    Thanks for your post.
You want only move team project source files and documents from TFS 2008 to TFS 2013 or you want move the whole team project data(source files and work items…) from TFS 2008 to TFS 2013?
If you want move whole team project data within history from TFS 2008 to TFS 2013, we suggest backup your TFS 2008, and install a new TFS 2010(or 2012) Server using the TFS 2008 backup, then
move the collection from TFS 2010 to TFS 2013 Server directly, after moved successfully, you can delete the unwanted team projects from moved collection in TFS 2013.
If you want only move the source files and document from TFS 2008 team project to TFS 2013 Server, you can create a new team project in TFS 2013 Server, then try use the
TFS Integration Tools to move source files from TFS 2008 team project to this new created TFS 2013 team project, but you need note the limitations in this tool.

  • TFS performance report pack not working on TFS 2013

    Hi
I have TFS 2013 setup and I found TFS performance report pack from http://blogs.msdn.com/b/granth/archive/2009/02/03/announcing-tfs-performance-report-pack.aspx URL.
These reports don't work after uploading to my report server. The blog talk about creating a shared data source TfsActivityReportDS
    and using Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=TfsActivityLogging
    as connection string.
I don't have any database by name TfsActivityReportDS in my TFS and as a result I am not able to run any report on my TFS 2013 server.
Is there any way to get these reports work for TFS 2013? Or is there other TFS performance report pack made for TFS 2013?
    Regards, Premal Acharya

It worked on TFS 2013. I followed your steps. I also found one easy way to edit the queries mentioned in those rdl files. I opened them in text editor and replaced TfsActivityLogging with my TFS project name (Tfs_DefaultCollection). Saved rdl file and opened
it in report builder and then my job was only to modify the data source.
I really appreciate your help for getting the reports worked on TFS 2013.
However I am only stuck with one little issue pertained to Server Status - Source Control Request Queue.rdl file
This report file doesn't have any queries and it also uses XML as connection to the data source. When I run this report on my TFS server I am getting error as URL "http://localhost:8080/versioncontrol/v1.0/administration.asmx" not found.
Detailed information about the report file is given below.
    Report Name
Server Status - Source Control Request Queue
    Connection type
    XML
    Connection string in data source
    http://localhost:8080/versioncontrol/v1.0/administration.asmx
    Query Under data set
    <Query>
       <Method Name="QueryServerRequests"
    Namespace="http://schemas.microsoft.com/TeamFoundation/2005/06/VersionControl/Admin/03">
       </Method>
       <ElementPath IgnoreNamespaces="true">*</ElementPath>
    </Query>
    -------END---------
I don't know how to get it work. Your help and advice on this will be highly appreciated.
Thanks again for helping me to get other reports worked with TFS 2013.
    Regards, Premal Acharya

  • Compatibility of TFS 2013's MSSCCI with PowerBuilder 12.5

Does anyone know if there are any compatibility issues with using PowerBuilder 12.5 and TFS 2013?  We are planning on upgrading our TFS server from 2010 to 2013.  I've seen discussions on PB 12.5 using TFS 2012, and PB 11.5 using TFS 2013.....but
what about PB 12.5 with TFS 2013?

     Hi Andria,
    Thanks for your post.
    According the information in
TFS 2013 MSSCCI Provider download site, the PowerBuilder 12.5 not displays in support products list. So we suggest you use PowerBuilder 11.5 works with TFS 2013 MSSCCI.
And I noted that you have asked a question about this issue in that download site, please tracking the reply from there. And you can try to install the PowerBuilder 12.5 and TFS 2013 MSSCCI on a test machine to check if there’s any error.
