The '$' character no more allowed in java identifier since JDK 1.4.2 ?

Since JDK 1.4.2, I'm no more able to compile java
sources. :-((
Their compilation worked fine on 1.3 and 1.4.1.
Note that these java sources are generated automatcally
via a tool.
<b>The $ (dollar) character seems to be no more allowed
in java identifier.</b>
Here is a part of the Java Language Specification (second edition):
"An identifier is an unlimited-length sequence of Java letters and Java digits, the first of which must be a Java letter.
An identifier cannot have the same spelling (Unicode character sequence) as a keyword (3.9), boolean literal (3.10.3), or the null literal (3.10.7).
A "Java letter" is a character for which the method
Character.isJavaIdentifierStart returns true.
A "Java letter-or-digit" is a character for which the method Character.isJavaIdentifierPart returns true.
The Java letters include uppercase and lowercase ASCII Latin letters A-Z (\u0041-\u005a), and a-z (\u0061-\u007a), and, for historical reasons, the ASCII underscore (_, or \u005f) and dollar sign ($, or \u0024). The $ character should be used only in
mechanically generated source code or, rarely, to access preexisting names on legacy systems.
Here is the result of the Character methods on JDK 1.4.2:
<code>
Character.isJavaIdentifierPart('$'): true
Character.isJavaIdentifierStart('$'): true
</code>
Here are two very samples java sources which reproduce
this probleme
<code>
package sb;
public interface Essai {
public void method1(int i);
public static class InnerClass {
public void test() {};
public void setInnerClass(InnerClass ic);
package sb;
public class EssaiImpl implements Essai {
public void method1(int p1) {
public void setInnerClass(sb.Essai$InnerClass p1) {
</code>

public void setInnerClass(sb.Essai$InnerClass p1) {There is no type named Essai$InnerClass defined anywhere in your program. That is an error in your program that previous compilers failed to detect.

  • How to use the character encoding model to use ' '  in java

    hi
    I have to use the special characters like '' using java.but when '' character is transferred to data base or is displayed in my form,it is shown as '?'.but i need to display the original characters in the form of what it is.
    what can i do as i expects the result .i needs it very urgently.so reply to me as soon as possible.

    Java stores all characters as 16 bit UNICODE (which has plenty of room far more exotic characters than Greek). Every time character data is brought into, or stored from the Java environment it passes through a specific character encoding. If you don't state the encoding explicitly it uses the default encoding of the machine it's running on (which is typically oriented to the language set in the locale.).
    With a database the database driver is supposed to do any necessary translation. The non-latin character could be stored wrongly, the database could be returning it wrongly or whatever's creating your form could be interpretting it wrongly, or lack the capacity to display the character.
    If it's, say, a JSP try setting the page encoding to UTF-8. Try dumping the characters read from the database in HEX and look them up at www.unicode.org.
    Take a look at the database setup information, some have an option of storing characters as UNICODE or ASCII.
    The "?" is substituted whenever a codec can't make sense of the codes it's translating, either the byte array is invalid or the UNICODE character can't be represented.

    My ipod touch 4g just updates today on itunes and the update caused more trouble than good for me. My ipod will no longer show me the battery percentage in the top right hand corner and I am not allowed to drag other applications to the bottom panel. Also my itunes doesn't allow "enable disk use" anymore. Can anyone help? My ipod now says that it's the 4.3.4 version

    - Unjailbroken iPod never showed % battery.  Just the icon.
    - Unjailbroken iPod Touches never had a disk mode.
    - What happens when you try to drag a wiggling app to a empty space in the bottom? Does it move and snap back?

    One of the comments suggests you can't use greater than or less than with the star rating in Finder.
    You might try a Raw Query with the kMDItemStarRating.
    In the criteria popup menu, select Other, then find the Raw Query entry.
    You might have to play around with the syntax, but try "kMDItemStarRating >= 3"

  • What are the pros and cons of installing java+abap stack for portal?

    Hi all,
      1.What are the pros and cons of installing java+abap stack for portal?
      2.what effect it does on the ume options to be choosen??
      3.for the purpose of integration of r3,bw and crm on portal and crm 4.0 60.2.3 business package which option of stack(java or abap or both)will be good option and which ume option while installation should be choosen?
    regards
    Rajendra

    Hi Rajendra,
    The NetWeaver Installation Master Guide offers some good scenarios on the pros and cons:
    https://websmp201.sapag.de/~sapidb/011000358700005412792005E.pdf
    In a nutshell:
    ABAP+JAVA
    Pros
    - Decrease # of servers required to administer the portal
    - Less costly
    Cons
    - Upgrades could be dependent on ABAP and Java release level
    - Additional load on the server due to ABAP stack
    - Limited scalability
    JAVA and ABAP on separate server
    Pros
    - Improved performance
    - Allows each system to be single-use purpose therefore downtime does not affect other components
    - More scalable
    Cons
    - Adds complexity to landscape
    - Additional costs

  • Can I take an image created in Illustrator and have it be on the Character Map? I need to use it as

    I have an image that I need to use as a bullet many times for a specific client. Is there a way to take that image from Illustrator and convert it to something on the Character Map?

    If by Character Map, you mean the Windows Character Map application, which lets you view the glyphs in a given font, then no, you can't do that with Illustrator.
    In order for your bullet (a new glyph) to appear in the Windows Character Map application, it would have to be a glyph inside a font.
    Illustrator does not provide the capability of directly editing font files. (Corel Draw does.)
    So if you want to edit an existing font, or create a new font, you need a program that can edit and/or modify fonts.
    In modifying fonts, you would be restricted by the limitations inherent in fonts: your custom bullet or dingbat would need to consist of a single simple or compound path, and could only receive one color, as any other text object.
    The far more common approach to this problem is to use inline graphics. All of Illustrator's mainstrream competitors (and even InDesign) allow you to paste a graphic into a textframe, inline with the text, and have it behave as if it were a character in the text. Illustrator has never provided that commonplace feature.
    If you use InDesign you can, as a ridiculously cumbersome workaround, create your text object in InDesign, paste the artwork element(s) inline. When done, copy the whole text object and paste into Illustrator. It will be pasted into AI as PDF content, meaning a Clipping Mask containing a bunch of individual pointType objects and the bullets as separate objects.

  • What is the use of Generic class in java

    hi everyone,
    i want to know that
    what is the use of Generic class in java ?
    regards,
    dhruvang

    Simplistically...
    A method is a block of code that makes some Objects in the block of code abstract (those abstract Objects are the parameters of the method). This allows us to reuse the method passing in different Objects (arguments) each time.
    In a similar way, Generics allows us to take a Class and make some of the types in the class abstract. (These types are the type parameters of the class). This allows us to reuse the class, passing in different types each time we use it.
    We write type parameters (when we declare) and type arguments (when we use) inside < >.
    For example the List class has a Type Parameter which makes the type of the things in the list become abstract.
    A List<String> is a list of Strings, it has a method "void add(String)" and a method "String get(int)".
    A List<File> is a list of Files, it has a method "void add(File)" and a method "File get(int)".
    List is just one class (interface actually but don't worry about that), but we can specify different type arguments which means the methods use this abstract type rather than a fixed concrete type in their declarations.
    Why?
    You spend a little more effort describing your types (List<String> instead of just List), and as a benefit, you, and anyone else who reads your code, and the compiler (which also reads your code) know more accurately the types of things. Because more detail is known, the compiler is able to tell you when you screw up (as opposed to finding out at runtime). And people understand your code better.
    Once you get used to them, its a bit like the difference between black and white TV, and colour TV. When you see code that doesn't specify the type parameters, you just get the feeling that you are missing out on something. When I see an API with List as a return type or argument type, I think "List of what?". When I see List<String>, I know much more about that parameter or return type.

    Could you make sure you don't have any extra Apache libraries hanging around in your global classpath, i.e. ensure there is nothing extra in <J2SE Home>/jre/lib/extThere's a xercesImp.jar under mid/j2ee/OC4J_Portal/applications/jpdk/jpdk/WEB-INF/lib/xercesImpl.jar, but there's also one under jwsdp-1.2/jaxp/lib/endorsed/xercesImpl.jar. Is that supposed to be in there?
    Neither of these are getting loaded, though; running java -verbose shows that all of org.apache.xalan.* is being loaded from mid/jdk/jre/lib/rt.jar
    FWIW, ../../lib/xmlparserv2.jar does exist, but doesn't look like it's being loaded. :-\

  • USING THE CHARACTER SET SCANNER

    How can I find and download the Character Set Scanner utility mentioned in MetaLink document # 66320.1.
    Thanks
    Pratap

    I would like to know if there exists a database character set
    scanner for ORACLE816. If not, can I use the ORACLE817 scanner
    to scan my ORACLE816 database?Check out the Globalization Support Home page
    http://technet.oracle.com/tech/globalization/content.html and go
    to the scanner download page for more info.
    Is it important to use a scanner if I am converting my database
    from, say, WE8ISO8859P1 character set to UTF8? Yes definitely. The scanner will identify
    1. If you have any invalid WE8ISO8859P1 data in your database ,
    these will be lost during the character set conversion process.
    2. If there are any data cell expansions, so that column widths
    can be expanded to cater for the new sizing.
    3. Area of possible character set conversion and truncation of
    data.
    Can I assume that a database UTF8 will automatically store all
    my original characters correctly?UTF8 can store all the characters from WE8ISO8859P1 ,and it can
    be stored correctly if your NLS configuration is correct . The
    key is your client NLS_LANG character set setting .
    I have a client with NLS_LANG set to UFT8. When I exported my
    database (in WE8ISO8859P1) from my client, the export was done
    in the client's setting i.e. UTF8. Can I assume that the
    conversion was done at the time of export itself?Yes, your assumption is correct.
