THE DATABASE CONNECTION IS LOST :;; WIERD  ORA-01012 NOT LOGGED ON ERROR

ERROR: ORA-01012 NOT LOGGED ON ERROR
I AM USING A JAVA SWING INTERFACE (JDK 1.1.8), WHICH USES JNI TO CALL C PROGRAMS WHICH IN TURN CONNECTS TO THE DATABASE, ORACLE 8.1.6.
A DATABASE CONNECTION IS ESTABLISED IN THE MAIN CLASS BY CALLING A FUNCTION FROM THE CONSTRUCTOR.
FOR ALL OTHER FUNCTION CALLS WHICH ARE MADE FROM WITHIN THIS CONSTRUCTOR, THE CONNECTION STAYS.
BUT AFTER THE CONTRUCTOR CALL IS COMPLETE, DATABASE CONNECTION IS STRANGELY LOST. THUS ALL OTHER FUNCTION CALLS FAIL BECAUSE OF CONNECTION ISSUES GIVING ORA-01012. THOUGH IF I CHECK UP IN THE DATABASE, THE CONNECTION DOES FIND AN ENTRY.
SO IT APPEARS THAT SOMEHOW THE JAVA INTERFACE LOOSES TRACK OF CONNECTION. BUT STRANGELY ALL THE FUNCTIONS WORK IF CALLED FROM THE CONSTRUCTOR......... BUT THATS NOT THE IDEA.
PLEASE HELP, THIS PROBLEM IS BUGGING ME FOR WEEKS NOW.
THANKS
AMIT

apologise for the caps lock.
i am working on a previous system with java swing front end which alread uses jni, and connects to database using pro *c.
My problem is that the connection is lost as soon as the constructor of the main class is run, giving an
ORA-1012 NOT LOGGED ON ERROR.
But if i place the same calls in the contructor all the database call work.
It somehow appears that the java interface looses the connection context. Though the session does find entry in the oracle dynamic tables as long as i dont close the front end main window, thereby meaning that its the jave interface which looses the context.
part of the code of the main class eiquser.
//constructor
public EiqUser() {
     super();
     initMRI();
private void initMRI() {
     try {
          /* initialize geoManager environment */
          int rccc = new EiqCfuncs().eiqInitEnv();
//eiqinitenv is a c function which connects to database using pro *C
          EiqCfuncs cfuncs = new EiqCfuncs();
          //EiqCfuncs has the prototypes of c functions used bye the java interface
          this.ivjFileMenu.setText(cfuncs.eiqGetText(resNum.getTEXT_FILE_MENU())); // sets the menu name
and so on.........
public void eiqUser_WindowClosed(java.awt.event.WindowEvent windowEvent) {
     new EiqCfuncs().eiqTermEnv(); // gives ora-1012 error
//eiqtermenv is supposed to disconnect from data base, but returns an ora-1012 not logged on erro
     return;
//eiqtermenv closes the connection with the data base. But fails in this case. if i place the same call ( eiqtermenv) in the initMRI function or the contructor it succeeds.
Plus if i dont use the java interace and use a c stub for executing the same sequence of functions, then i dont face any problems.
the proc calls exectuted ultimately by...
:::eiqinitenv
exec sql connect using :sqlid identified by sqlpw; // succeeds giving sqlerr.sqlcode=0;
::::eiqterm env
exec sql commit work; //fails giving 0ra-1012 error
exec sql rollback work;
Why is the java interface loosing track of the connection once done with the constructor of the main class?? The session still finds an entry in the oracle dynamic tables.
Please help
Thx
Amit

  • ORA-01012: not logged on error while Moving data file with BrTools

    Hi,
        I'm trying to move a data file to another windows drive with BrTools.
    It fails before it actually starts to move the file. The error it shows is:
    ORA-01012: not logged on.
    Thanks,
    Anil.

    Hi,
    BRSPACE  has a command option -u to specify the Database user and password. How ever BRSPACE connects to the database as SYSDBA, you do not have to specify the user and password if the operating system user belongs to the dba group.SO check if the user is falling in DBA group with proper authorizations.
    PLease reward points for useful answers.

  • Getting Error ORA-01012: not logged on while connecting as sys

    We have just upgraded from Oracle 8.1.7 to Oracle 9.2.0.5. Currently we have 2 databases in oracle 9i - db2 and scen. scen has been newly upgraded to Oracle 9i.
    When I set the ORACLE_SID to scen (as per entry in oratab), and connect to sqlplus using sys / as sysdba, it connects to an idle instance. and displays the error message ORA-01012: not logged on. I do not encounter this when I connect to the other database db2. There should be some settings which have been missed out.
    Could anybody help me out with this....

    I managed to get the settings corrected.Thanks anyway....

  • Oracle Instance shows connected,Yet am ORA-01012: not logged on

    Hi experts,
    Please help in log in to my database, which unfortunately was happening an hour before, but now it is not working
    In between I only did a change in some permission stuff for my base directory, but later brought it back to original permissions.
    Still it is haunting me..
    I have set up my SID/HOME/PATH perfectly, tried to check processes at OS level, they are less, still nothing is happening though database is up and running.
    I can see it at OS level and through ALert log..

    I bounced one of the database after taking permission from apps team, Now it works perfect...no issue whatsoever..

    You should not disturb them, What are the users, groups, executable, read, write permissions earlier and after changes and now?
    And i interestingly wanted to know why you wanted to test such things on production. Its like playing with fire so be cautious or else it costs a lot :)Basha,
    I don't think that there was any other way for the OP to solve the error. Either he could wait (which doesn't help normally in this error) or had to bounce the db, which he did. Also, with permission he meant, telling to the App team and than going for a bounce. I can't a mentioning of changing permissions anywhere .

  • ORA-01012 NOT LOGGED ON

    Hi All,
    Today I faced a new kind of problem. Today morning I had load testing of our application(JDE APPLICATION) when I reached office and monitor ORACLE PROCESS for that database it shown me 604 where as I defined the processes=600... I am using 10.2.0.4 and OS -> HP-UX...
    $ ps -ef|grep -i "<DBNAME>|wc -l is the command I used to check the number of OS Oracle process.
    So I immediately tried to log in via listener and as expected it was giving error regarding TNS could not resolved service name bla bla bla...
    Then I saw the listener process was in a blocked state :-(
    I thought of killing some inactive sessions by connected as sysdba..
    SO I wrote export ORACLE_SID=<DBNAME>
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    shown me connected...
    but when I issued
    show parameter db_name
    then it gave me
    SQL> ORA-01012 not connected...
    previously I have seen such overflowing of Oracle processes But then for sysdba login never thrown me this error...
    I asked my application team to stop the services so that I can kill some oracle processes from OS level...
    But I am not sure what to do with this kind of situation if that too happened in my PRODUCTION DB.. :-(
    Please suggest.....
    Please let me know if you need any other information regarding this...
    Thank you..

    1 lsnrctl stop
    2 kill a few sessions
    3 logon as / AS SYSDBA
    4 SELECT USERNAME, MACHINE , COUNT(*) FROM V$SESSION GROUP BY USERNAME, MACHINE;
    thank you for your reply...
    after stopping I tried to log in same error I got.... after stopping how can I kill few sessions when I don't get a chance to log in as sysdba ? :-(
    are talking kill few session from OS??
    thank you..

    Hello Tatiana,
    It sounds like you're not able to access the Internet on your wife's iPad using Wi-Fi.  I found a couple of resources that will help troubleshoot Wi-Fi issues on the iPhone:

  • 8i: cannot create db. svrmgrl ORA-01012 not connected.

    Hi,
    running redhat 6.0, glibc2.1.1-6, kernel 2.2.5-15, egcs-1.1.2-12,
    on my PII400 I tried to install 8i. After some problems with the
    installer (you'd better not use defaults) and dbassist I was
    ready to create the db. I let dbassist save the configuration to
    a set of scripts. when I started the initial script
    (sql<sid>.sh), I got a huge list of errors due to the fact , that
    the server manager was not able to connect to the database. But
    the processes were running. After having stopped the db processes
    I tried to follow the creation procedure step by step:

    svrmgrl
    connect / as sysdba
    startup pfile=/ora/0/app/oracle/admin/db01/pfile/initdb01.ora
    And at this point the processes started (ps aux |grep ora_) but I
    was kicked out of the server manager immediately, which threw
    an error:

    What does your alert log say?
    Are there any trace files in bdump or udump?
    How much RAM do you have?
    I originally had 64MB in my Dell Inspirion and I got all
    sorts of weird error messages just trying to startup a tiny
    database.
    I upped it to 128MB and things run fine.
    Create your own database create scripts. You can control the
    process better that way.
    Be sure to "set echo on" and spool the create process to a log
    file to see what is happening.
    Because the create process is often able to create a few files,
    like the control files, before it will fail (depending on what
    is wrong, of course).
    Then your next create attempt will fail because those files exist
    and it will disconnect you because a disconnect is often found at
    the end of the create scripts (I always delete the disconnects
    too).
    Also make sure any of the background processes are shutdown
    before running the create scripts again (pmon,smon,etc).
    Just connect internal and do shutdown.

    Hussein,
    One thing which I noticed now is in the apps Tier the
    tnsnames.ora under $TNS_ADMIN
    shows entry like this:
    PROD=
            (DESCRIPTION=
                    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<appsServerName>)(PORT=1521))
                    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<dbServer>)(PORT=1521))
                (CONNECT_DATA=
                    (SID=PROD)
            )Actually *(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<appsIPaddress>)(PORT=1521))* this line in the tnsnames.ora is not correct. In fact the appsServerName should be replaced with dbServerName
    I deleted the tnsnames.ora and reran autoconfig but it is again recreating the same entry.
    Any clue how this can be fixed?
    Thanks

  • Timeout: Tuxedo kills the service but not the database connection

    Hi all,
    I am experiencing some performance problems on my system due an efficient SQL and a Tuxedo improper timeout handling.
    A service is using a "problematic" SQL (we will tune it but it's not the main problem). After 60 seconds from the execution, Tuxido kills the services for a timeout.
    At this point I would like Tuxedo to notify DB2 database as well in order to stop processing the SQL. Instead the SQL continues running on the database (also if the service is killed) and this produce a gradual slow down of the performances.
    In the UBBCONFIG, we are using a service configuration like the following timeout configuration:
    .RESOURCES
    SCANUINIT 5
    SANITYSCAN 6
    BLOCKTIME 12
    .SERVICES
    DEFAULT: SVCTIMEOUT=45
    service1 SVCTIMEOUT=60 TRANTIME=60
    service2 SVCTIMEOUT=60 TRANTIME=60
    Note: not all the services are listed in the .SERVICES section and we are using the default NOTIFY as well as an OPENINFO.
    Can you please help me in finding a configuration to kill both the services and the database?
    Thanks in advance,
    Benedetto

    Hi Benedetto.
    First of all, Tuxedo doesn't kill services, it kills servers. Your UBBCONFIG file specifies three timeouts, BLOCKTIME, SVCTIMEOUT, and TRANTIME.
    BLOCKTIME specifies how long a Tuxedo API that needs a response will wait for that response. If the response isn't received in that period of time, Tuxedo will return TPETIME to the caller. As with any failure, if the request was part of a transaction, the transaction is marked rollback only. Note, this timeout does not affect the request, whether sitting in a server's IPC queue or currently executing in a server.
    SVCTIMEOUT is a much more severe timeout and determines how long Tuxedo will allow a service implementation to execute. If a service implementation doesn't reply within the SVCTIMEOUT period, Tuxedo will issue an OS level KILL request to kill the process. If the server is marked restartable, Tuxedo will then try to restart the server assuming none of the restart limits have been reached. Killing the server causes the request to be lost within the server so the caller will stay blocked until BLOCKTIME is reached at which point the above actions will take place.
    TRANTIME is the amount of time Tuxedo allows a transaction to remain active and viable. When this period expires, Tuxedo will mark the transaction as timed out with the only option being rollback. As well, Tuxedo aborts any API requests that would normally cause messaging to occur, i.e., making a tpcall() within a timed out transaction will fail without any attempt to call the service.
    So in your case, the issue is partially that you have the values of your timeouts in somewhat reverse order. Typically we see BLOCKTIME being the smallest value, with TRANTIME typically larger than BLOCKTIME, and SVCTIMEOUT larger even still, although there are good reasons for exceptions to this guideline. Part of the reasoning behind this is that killing a server is a significant thing and its usually best to try and let the server complete whatever its doing, if if the work has been timed out either due to BLOCKTIME or TRANTIME, since the cost of killing and restarting a server is significant.
    Tuxedo will notify the database of the transaction status when the application finally issues a tpcommit() or a tpabort() request, but not until then. Although, if SVCTIMEOUT is hit, then killing the server should cause the database connection to be lot.
    If you could describe the behavior you are seeing and the relevant portions of your ULOG we can try to make some sense of what is happening.

  • Closing the database connection after report in a server application

    I searched these forums and the internet for a definitive answer on asking the Crystal SDK for java to close the jdbc connection after it has generated a report.  We have been using the Crystal Report SDK to generate reports within our JEE application, built upon the Spring framework, for the past two years.  It works well, especially if you prepare views in the database for your reports.
    From what I can tell once you have used ReportClientDocument to create your report you all the close() method to release resources associated with report generation, but this does not close the jdbc database connection.
    Further research states that if you are using the CrystalReportViewer you can call the dispose method to close the database connection.  We are not using JSP nor this class, so that does us little good.
    Finally I found a post that one could call ((AdvancedReportDocument)reportClientDocument.getReportSource()).dispose().  This doesn't drop the connection either.
    Each report actually opens 3 connections according to SQL Server.  Each report will reuse the connections it has open, so for 50 reports, theoretically, we could have up to 150 connections.  We explained to our client those connections  remain inactive, however this is unacceptable to our client as they would like to minimize the number of connections left open to their database.
    If anyone can post any further information on this issue, it is much appreciated.

    Yes, another team member found the issue.  Quite embarrassing really I didn't see it.  I was looking for the answer within Crystal's libraries.  It had nothing to do with Crystal.
    The developer who wrote the helper code for using Crystal first opened a connection to the datasource for the live production database and read that connection information for the report. Next he set that connection information in the report template's PropertyBag, then ran the report. The developer however forgot to close the connection he used to look up the connection info, leaving a memory leak and using up all the connections.
    I'm glad you inquired.  I forgot to post the resolution here.

  • Why do I get a class conflict between the Prepare SQL.vi and the Get Column Name.vi with the SQL Toolkit compatibility vis from the Database Connectivity Toolkit?

    I have done extensive programming with the SQL Toolkit with LabVIEW versions through 6.1. My customer now wants to upgrade to Windows 7, so I am trying to upgrade to LabVIEW 2009 (my latest purchased version) using the Database Connectivity Toolkit, and the SQL Toolkit Compatibility vis. Everything seemed to be going okay with the higher level SQL operations, but I ran into trouble with the Get Column Name.vi.
    The pictures below show the problem. The original SQL Toolkit connected the Prepare SQL.vi with the Get Column Name.vi with a cluster of two references, one for connection, and one for sql. The new compatibility vis have a class conflict in the wire because the Prepare SQL.vi contains a cluster with connection, and command references, but the Get Column Name.vi expects a cluster with connection and recordset references.
    How do I resolve this conflict?
    Thank You.
    Dan

    I've never worked with the old version of the toolkit, so I don't know how it did things, but looking inside the SQL prep VI, it only generates a command, and the the column name VI wants a recordset. I'm not super familiar with all the internals of ADO, but my understanding is that is standard - you only have the columns after you execute the command and get the recordset back. What you can apparently do here is insert the Execute Prepared SQL VI in the middle and that will return what you need.
    I'm not sure why it worked before. Maybe the execute was hidden inside the prep VI or maybe you can get the column names out of the command object before execution. In general, I would recommend considering switching to the newer VIs.

  • Proxy functionality in the database connection pool

    Hi,
    I am scouring the internet and forums looking for a way to connect to my database from the .rpd connection pool using proxy authetication. NOT Act-As proxy that is a BIEE feature, but RDBMS proxy authentication with BIEE acting as the middle-tier connecting on behalf of many users and authenticating to the RDBMS AS THE INDIVIDUAL USER. I haven't had any luck, and am hoping someone here has set up this same kind of access.
    We have a requirement to use SSO with BIEE to integrate with our portal and discoverer apps. We also have a requirement to use EUS (Enterprise User Security). EUS allows you to login to the database using the userids/password from OID. Note that the database doesn't support the SSO token, but it uses the same userid/password stored in OID for authenticating to the database. You still must initiate a connection to the database, but the authentication goes to LDAP. Every connection to BIEE may be using a different userid - we will not have a shared login.
    So the issue I see is:
    - We configure SSO
    - In the BI Server the :USER session variable is set (but NOT :PASSWORD, since BI Server didn't authenticate you it doesn't have the password)
    - We create a connection pool - This is where we hit the issue - we need each connection to BI Server to connect down to the database as the SSO user. Since we aren't using a shared account we can't enter a userid/password in this connection. We also can't user :USER and :PASSWORD since SSO doesn't set the :PASSWORD session variable. What I would hope to find is a checkbox "Proxy Authentication" (around where "Shared Logon" checkbox is located) that would connect to the database as the proxy user and then switch to the SSO user.
    This is what happens with BI Publisher. On the JDBC connection screen there is a "Proxy Authentication" checkbox.
    So, has anyone already solved this problem? Thanks!

    Hello, is there anyone knows what this program does
    and how this program is executed? There is nodatabase
    mentioned.That's because it's expecting the URL (which contains
    the database type, hostname, and so on) to be passed
    in on the command line (argv[0]), as well as the
    username and password (argv[1] and argv[2]).
    Thank you very much for your help.
