The Great JTree Refreshing Problem!

hi, i am using a Jtree to display information retrieved from an X.500 directory.
I am dealing with a great amount of information, and performance is the great issue in here. So, my problem is that, retrieving 3000 entries from the directory with JNDI takes 1 second,building and inserting the 3000 nodes takes 3 seconds, and in the end, the refresh of the jtree takes 7 seconds!!!!!
It's just to mutch time... i've tried dividing the 3000 entries in sets of 100 and insert this sets one at the time, so the JTree could refresh itself, this way, the user would see some action hapenning and it would be a lot more happy than he is now... The problem is that, the Jtree do not makes this refresh, only when a insert all, she starts to refresh and takes the infamous 7 seconds.
does this have anything to do with the low priority of the Swing threads that makes the refreshment...
please... any help is welcome
thanks in advance

use DefaultMutableTreeNode's insert/add methods to add
the node.
Steps:
- make the root node.
- insert the nodes in the root node,
- set the root node as the root to the treemodel.
it may be useful to u.A little off the subject of the original question, but when I want to use the same JTree to display new information (instead of popping up a new frame with the new info), I also create a new root node, populate it, and then set the currently-displayed JTree's model's root to the new root node. However it never redraws with the new tree contents, even though I call invalidate() on the JTree.
What explicitly do you do to have it redraw with the new contents?
Thanks!

  • JTree refresh problem

    I use a JTree for displaying a custom TreeModel based on a DOM document. I have a problem with refreshing the tree: the tree refreshes itself correctly when it has focus, and does nothing when it has not (at least it seems to be related to focus), even though TreeModelEvents are fired. I know the problem originates from the custom TreeModel (others work fine), but I can't find what's wrong. I compared it to the DefaultTreeModel source and found nothing interesting.
    In addition to that, the tree is displayed without its vertical connecting lines (but someone told me its a symptom of bad refreshing).
    Anyone has an idea? Thanks in advance.
    Simon

    I faced the same problem. Try adding a TreeModelListener and updateUI in it . . .
    yourTreeModel.addTreeModelListener(new TreeModelListener() {
    public void treeNodesChanged(TreeModelEvent e) {}
    public void treeNodesInserted(TreeModelEvent e) {
    yourTree.updateUI();
    public void treeNodesRemoved(TreeModelEvent e) {
    yourTree.updateUI();
    public void treeStructureChanged(TreeModelEvent e) {}
    });

  • The links and refresh problems

    Dear Friends,
    I have a problems in my JSP code. In an session, I read a set of data into a Vector, display it by a table. The two JSP pages (A and B pages) are linked each other.
    If I load B page through A page (link) it is fine, but if I reload A pape through B page, all of data display in a table is displaced twice. For example,
    original in A page
    1 a
    2 b
    3 c
    will be changed into
    1 a
    2 b
    3 c
    1 a
    2 b
    3 c
    However if I manually refreshed it, the A page will correctly display again.
    I am very confused. I removed all of elements from the vector. I can not find any reason on it.
    Any person can give me some hints? Thank you very much.
    Daan

    Somewhere you are doing an add to the vector without first clearing it somewhere...

  • JTree refresh probleme help me please

    a can't reload my JTree from my server
    my Jtree code:
              user.add("Zeus@mxf");
              user.add("Neptune@toto");
              user.add("Ulysse@mars");
         root =new DefaultMutableTreeNode("users");
              for(int i=1; i<user.size(); i++)
              userNode = new DefaultMutableTreeNode
    (user.elementAt(i) );
                   root.add(userNode);
              renderer.setOpenIcon(OpenIcon);
         renderer.setClosedIcon(ClosedIcon);
         renderer.setLeafIcon(PrinterIcon);
              tree=new JTree(root);
              tree.setCellRenderer(renderer);
    and if a have receive the write data i do my refresh methode:
    refresh()
    userNode = new DefaultMutableTreeNode(user.elementAt(0) );
                                  root.add(userNode);
                                  ((DefaultTreeModel)tree.getModel()).reload();
                                  tree.treeDidChange();
                                  tree.setCellRenderer(renderer);

    why it dose not work ?????

    Sorry I have not ready examples, try to implement a method this way:
    String newUser = user.elementAt(0);
    public void addNode(String newUser){
    DefaultMutableTreeNode userNode = new DefaultMutableTreeNode(newUser);
    root.add(userNode);
    tree.getModel().nodeChanged((TreeNode)tree.getModel().getRoot());
    tree.treeDidChange();

  • Screen refresh problem where data is entered and the screen doesn't refresh

    Many people in the company are experiencing the odd screen refresh problem where data is entered and the screen doesn't refresh to show the updated result in corresponding cell formulas.
    Microsoft have issued a hotfix to fix the issue for Excel 2003 as shown. Microsoft released a hotfix for this problem (<a href="advisory?ID=978908">KB978908</a>). Display memory tends to pick up data from hidden sheets and pastes it
    into the active screen. No impact on the file. This occurs when protecting and unprotecting worksheets in VBA. I also suspect that enabling and disabling screen refresh contributes to this problem. In any case there is a fix, albeit with the following disclaimer:
    As of yet I have not been able to find a fix for this for office 2010 and 2013, Any suggestions would be great.

    Hi,
    Based on your description, Excel does not show the text strings when you typing. It may be caused by the cell format, if we set the cell format as ";;;" in custom format, it will not display the text that you typed.
    And the issue may be caused by the third-party input method, there are some compatibility issue between them.
    If the issue still exits, please try the following methods
    Verify/install the latest updates
    Repair your Office program

  • Forms Refresh Problem on The Web??

    i have a form coded in 6i. in this form i have around 20 buttons one below another and each of the button has a stacked view associated with it. whenever i click on a button i am opening the relative stacked view on th content canvas and repositioning the rest of the bottons and views by moving them down.
    Now the problem is it works fine in client-server, but when i run it on the web, when i try to open any of the buttons the screen scrolls automatically to the top. I also noticed that if i wait for a few seconds(or sometimes minutes) the form takes me to the correct position. i think there is some refresh problem. i tried Syncronize also but to no use.
    i would appreciate If someone can help me out on this ASAP. (thanks for the patience in reading this long mail!!)

    Try to instal the latest version of Jinitiator. I have similar problems, but my case is not so bad. Jinitiator develops very quickly and as i have heard it works now fine.

  • Smartview 11.1.2.1.102 Refresh problems

    I have multiple users experiencing severe refresh problems after upgrading to smartview version 11.1.2.1.102.
    Users state Refresh is taking 10-15mins+ when in old version 9x it only takes 1-2mins. In addition users have rebuilt the excel files (copy in new workbook) then all is working fine but when saved/the next day the refresh goes very slow again!
    Please can any help?

    1. Deleting the Sheet Info fixes the problem for the moment - but the problem soon returns. Do you know what causes the problem, so we can cut the repeating cycle? Is this strictly a multi-user issue? We do have several users that may use the file. Some have version 11.1.2.1.000 (not 103). Oracle's tips doc (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/epm-tips-issues-73-102-1612164.pdf) mentions uncompressed metadata stored in the worksheet.
    2. Is there a specific version that allows the Sheet Info fix? Oracle's tip sheet says they need Some have version 11.1.2.1.103, but the users we have seen so far can use this workaround on Some have version 11.1.2.1.000. I'd like to know when at what version this fix starts so I can push other users to update. It would be good to know at which version this issue starts.
    Thank you - great information in the thread!
    P.S. for reference:
    From http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/epm-tips-issues-73-102-1612164.pdf
    In EPM System Release 11.1.2.1, I am opening .xls files with Smart View functions in Excel 2010, but it’s very slow or seems to freeze Excel. How can I fix this?
    This is most likely due to an issue with uncompressed metadata stored in the workbook. In most cases, the issue can be found in the first sheet in hidden shapes. Note that the file will open but it may take a very long time, and in some cases the file will open fine with Smart View disabled. In other cases it will not matter. To solve this problem, save a copy of the file and follow the steps below for the version of Smart View you have.
    If you are using Smart View 11.1.2.1.103 or above, follow these steps:
    1 Open the file (this may take a while) with Smart View enabled.
    2 From the Smart View Ribbon, select Sheet Info.
    3 Select Delete Smart View Info.
    4 Select Workbook and all Sheet Info.
    174 Miscellaneous and Product-Specific Tips
    5 Click OK.
    6 Save the modified workbook.
    7 Reopen the workbook.
    If you are not using Smart View 11.1.2.1.103 or above, follow these steps:
    1 Open the file (this may take a while).
    2 Right-click on the tab of the first worksheet and select Select All Sheets.
    3 Right-click on the tab of the first worksheet and select Move or Copy.
    4 In the drop-down box, select (new book) and check Create a Copy.
    5 Save the workbook.
    6 Open the new workbook.
    7 Refresh the data.

  • Refresh problem with dreamweaver cs5.5

    Hello,  I hope someone can help out soon with my problem. We currently have a great running site that is hosted OFFSITE. Our programmer built a new site which is the one having the refresh problems with.  It's hosted on an ON-SIGHT server . thank you
    Problem:
    Sometimes randomly, but almost always when opening other pages, DW freezes for about 5-10 seconds, sometimes crashing (presumably when it takes longer).
    It occurs whether changes are made to files or not. I'm using split view it happens mostly whien trying to click something in code view at top.
    Test Results:
    I was able to consistently reproduce the problem when opening files in the directory.
    I was unable to reproduce the problem when opening multiple Include files (that do not use templates).
    Thoughts:
    Is there something in the template causing the refresh problem?
    Something in the new website page source, or in their shared template, may be loading from a (slow) external resource.
    Something in the DW settings?
    HELP THANK YOU

    Could you post a screen capture of your File > New dialogue window when you choose it from the menu?
    Page From Template should be an option on the far left if I recall correctly (it has been changed in newer versions, but I think 5.5 still used this method). You won't see it in the Welcome Screen or if you hit Ctrl +N. You have to use the menu option to select New...
    You should then be presented with a list of sites, when the site is chosen, the templates should show in the middle column.
    Or are you saying your template isn't showing when you choose the Page From Template option and select the site?

  • Why can't the snapshot be refreshed properly?

    I have created a snapshot(read_only) but it can't be refreshed with the master table properly. I found that after I created the snapshot, any change made in the master table was not reflected in the snapshot table.
    Here is my SQL statement for creating the snapshot.
    CREATE SNAPSHOT testing
    TABLESPACE XXX
    STORAGE (INITIAL 32K NEXT 32K)
    REFRESH NEXT sysdate+1
    WITH ROWID
    AS SELECT *
    from master_table@master_site_database;
    The SQL statement is to create the snapshot. and refresh the snapshot with master table every day.By executing the SQL,the snapshot is created successfully,but seem not to be freshed properly. The master_site_database, which the master_table locates, is Oracle version 7. The snapshot site database ,which the snapshot is created in, is Oracle version 8.
    Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    i am not getting notification on most of my apps, e.g twitter and facebook...except i go to the app and refreshed manually. its an iphone 4 and running on ios5...i have gone through everything and its still the same..help please........
    I seem to be having the same problem on my brand new iPhone 4S. Everything was working fine on the phone until I updated to iOS 5.1.1, but now I no longer receive push notifications for the native Mail app, Instagram, or the Facebook app. I still seem to be receiving SMS texts and iMessages via push, but the aforementioned apps need to be opened before I can receive missed notifications (having them open in the background seems to make no difference).
    Thanks for any help that you may provide!

    did you try notifications under settings? You can customize it as per your requirement, for each application.

  • Composite windows manager window refresh problem

    Hello, I'm a very satisfied user of Arch Linux, and I would like to say it is la creme de la creme (the best) distribution for users that wish to control their system (and not vice versa).
    However, recently, I had some strange problems with compiz fusion, beryl, and even xcompmgr. I'm using xorg from testing, I do not have a xorg.conf, and I have a GMA 3100 IGP. Compiz fusion was working correctly, without xorg.conf, and after I did the upgrade to kernel 2.6.23 (the day the package was put online), compiz-fusion started to have quite weird problems. It is not kernel related, I compiled my own 2.6.23 kernel, then a 2.6.22.9, and it just did not work as expected.
    When I move windows, decoration and the window is just fine. However, the windows stop refreshing (I have to shade the window to refresh it), and when I scale it (not the compiz plugin), the decoration and the window just stretches, and then it refreshes sometimes. I was not able to do a decent video capture of my screen, but I hope the description gives you an idea of the problem. I tried with a xorg.conf, setting xaa acceleration, setting "XAANoOffscreenPixmap" xorg.conf option, adding my user into the video group using gpasswd, and I must admit, it changes nothing.

    Oh, I forgot to tell that compiz outputs no error messages.
    Also, I find it weird that xorg uses the i810 driver, as I only have the "intel" driver installed.

    hmm dell would only launch X using the intel drivers and I"m having the same problem with compiz fusion that you had.  My windows don't update themselves.  It's quite frustrating.

  • Shortly after launching into itunes, it freezes and I get the following message: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. How do I resolve this issue?

    Shortly after launching itunes, the program freezes and gives me the following message:A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. The program then closes, even if I have not completed what I am doing. How do I resolve this problem?

    That is what I thought. Cannot figure out how to turn it off, though.
    However, when I talked to her over the phone, she is definitely using Firefox. I tried to access her Internet Explorer, but it has been deactivated, I believe by Firefox.
    She primarily uses the Internet to communicate with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Her e-mail account is with Yahoo Mail, and she uses Firefox to access it. Occasionally, she uses the web to look up information, and may have downloaded a virus.
    Do you think there's something in Yahoo Mail that conflicts with Firefox? Is there some remnant of Internet Explorer that needs to be deactivated? Could she have a virus?
    Any information would be gratefully appreciated. I live 7 hours away, and can only help her over the phone. I'm trying to develop a course of action that I can use with her. I know a little bit about Firefox, so need your expertise.

  • Thanks all for the great advice.  Another question.  If I use Entourage on my desktop Mac to access an email address I use on there, is it possible to be able to access my email on that same email address on my iPad either with or without Entourage?

    Thanks all for the great advice.  Another question.  If I use Entourage on my Mac desktop to access my mail using an email address I have on there, is it possible to access my emails on that same email address on my iPad, either with or without using Entourage.  Is there an Entourage app, or something I could use?  Thanks...

    Simply add the email account to Mail, no need for Entourage.
    One word of warning, though, iPads tend to become community property (meaning anyone who uses your iPad can access your email). That is why I have zero email accounts on my iPad.
    I use Entourage on my desktop as well, so going back and forth between Entourage and Mail (whether on your iPad or iPhone) is no problem.
