The input line is too long.

I am a prentice on J2EE by using the Tutorial 1.4.
- Problem:
I keep getting this error message: "The input line is too long. The syntax of the command is incorrect." from the windows's terminal no matter what arguments I issued for the command asant right after I successfully executed command "asant build" under the directory of both <Install>/examples/web/bookstore and bookstore1 when I practice the topic of The Example Servlets on Chapter 11: Java Servlet Technology.
The command and the arguments are:
asant create-db_common
asant create-bookstore-war
asant package-bookstore
asant deploy-war
All of them have the same outcome:
"The input line is too long.
The syntax of the command is incorrect."
I have tried to do the research on the google and ased some Java developer friends and school teachers; unfortunately, none of them can solve this problem.
- Environment:
The OS I am using is win2k professional. The commands were issued on DOS terminal. I have successfully built application server, and pointbase, deploy tool. I have utilize this tools and environment to run all the examples very well on Chapter 8: Building Web Services with JAX-RPC.
The Server and PointBase were activated when I issued those commands.
-New Problem:
Even worse, after failing on running the Servlets Examples, I got the same error message when I go back to the Chapter 8's Examples and run the command "asant build" on the directory <install>\j2eetutorial14\examples\jaxrpc\staticstub.
- tried solutions:
(A) I checked the log from admin console and found this error message that was Severe:
A "com.sun.enterprise.tools.guiframework.exception.FrameworkError" was caught. The message from the exception: "Unable to get View for viewDescriptor 'webApplications'"
The root cause is "com.sun.enterprise.admin.common.exception.MBeanConfigException: Component not registered"
See the HTML source for more detailed (stack trace) information.
(B) I also after unistalling the Application Server from the directory of C:\Sun\AppServer, and reinstall the Server onto C:\AppServer; in addition endited the build.properties file under the directory of <install>\j2eetutorial4\examples\common on the line of j2ee.home=C:\Sun\AppServer to j2ee.home=C:\AppServer, I got the error msg as following:
D:\Java\Tutorial\J2EE\j2eetutorial14\examples\jaxrpc\staticstub>asant build
The system cannot find the path specified.
The input line is too long.
The syntax of the command is incorrect.
where D:\Java\Tutorial\J2EE\j2eetutorial14\examples\jaxrpc\staticstub is the project I had successfully built before I tried to build on Servlet project.
Can anyone or the tutorail's authors give me some helps? Thanks!

This is a known problem of win2k...
one of the solution is to shorten your J2EE path... e.g shorten c:\program files\sun\app_server to c:\app_server. i haven't tried this method personally though.
the other solution is to use winXP. i have tried it n its working.

    Hi eric.jendrock,
Appreciate your help; unfortunately, in my asant.bat script I cannot find the line you indicated even though I found the solution addressed in the FAQ as you instructed, too. The only ines I found are:

  • Flash CS5.5 BUG: The input line is too long

I'm developing iOS app and I include huge of file list as Included Files on Air for IOS publisher.
But I found a bug. When I insert more than 73 external files to compile for iOS - Flash return error:
During my investigation works I understand - this error do not affect ADT tool for compiling iOS or Android. When I include many files to project - all this files sends as parameters to external file adt.jar.
But flash can't send huge amout of parameters.
I googled this issue and found - any other app can have this bug looking on wrong parameters sending options.
Please not - this is only Flash CS5.5 bug, not ADT. How I understand this? I can use command line for compiling with all this parameters and command line compile succesful.

I know that. But it's sometime provide new bug - folder added and it's present in IPA file. But when Install on device - it's not availbe on device anymore. Why this I don't know. 50\50

  • Compile error "input line is too long" when using useLegacyAOT

I'm using FlashBuilder 4.7 and the release of AIR 4 on Windows 7 to package for iOS...As soon as I include 3 or more ANEs I can no longer compile to iOS (and also use the new "useLegacyAOT no" command).  When I try I get an error "The input line is too long.   Compilation failed while executing : compile-abc"
I found a couple other similar issues.  One post suggested instead of pointing to individual ANEs (in Package Contents) to point to a folder instead--but this doesn't fix the
Another post for a slightly different problem said it was fixed in the release of AIR 4.
Any ideas?  I wonder if I move my AIR SDK to a simple path (like "c:\air\adt.jar" instead of "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64 Bit)\eclipse\plugins\com.adobe.flash.compiler_4.7.0.349722\AIRSDK\lib\adt.jar") if it'd help.
    Thanks in advance!

Awesome!  I got used to the new useLegacyAOT thing very fast.  In the meantime, I have to decide whether to remove all my ANEs and test or sit through an interminable build sequence.
What's the current plan for a new release?  Is there any way I could get a beta copy just to use during development?
    Thanks!

  • Too many jars cause the error "the input line is too ling"

    Hi, Friends,
For some good reasons, I received a lot of jar files (25) and I have to include them in my classpath.
Now I have a problem. When I use javac or ant, I got
The input line is too long.
The syntax of the command is incorrect.
I don't know if the only solution is to extract classes from those jars and put the class root location in the classpath. I don't like this solution.
    Thank you for your help?
    Youbin

I did try using jre/lib/ext but it looked like I'd
have to put all the jars there -- i.e. even ones that
were in the classpath did not seem to be found unless
they were in the ext dirsctory. This may be a windows
quirk, but again, it is what I am stuck with for right
now.You mean that if you put one jar in lib/ext, then no jars outside of it are recognised? I've never heard of that before - it doesn't happen on any Windiws platform I've ever used.
I should warn you that I had a problem last week that seemed to come down to having unnecessary jar files in lib/ext - If you have an application that uses its own version of a particular jar, but there is a different version of the jar in lib/ext, the one in lib/ext is the one that gets used (I think its to do with class loaders deferring to parent class loaders) - not sure how often the problem occurs (I've never seen it before), but keep it in mind if you get any new problems coming up.
I don't know exactly what you're supposed to use lib/ext for, but I assume its intended as a place to put extensions to the core API and nothing else.

  • Error on the reports with drill-through links on SSRS 2012 SP2 -- Invalid URI: The Uri string is too long

Hi, We are migrating SSRS 2008 R2 reports to SSRS 2012 SP2. (PS. SSRS 2012 SP2 has been applied.) Everything went smooth expect some reports which were using reporting services. These reports have some drilin-through actions and was passing in a huge
xml parameter. I referred to some other posts in which there were also some similar issues like "The Uri string is too long."  but they're different. My reports can be opened and the error only occurred when accessing the drill-through actions.
As I know, Microsoft has provided the fix for the known issue "The Uri string is too long." in sp1 but it looks it can't cover this kind of situation since I have installed the SSRS SP 2. Is there any solution? In addition, there's no such
    issue on SSRS 2008 R2.
    Thanks,
    onizga

    Hi onizga,
According to your description that you are migrating SSRS 2008 R2 reports to SSRS 2012 SP2, after migration you got some error like “The Uri string is too long” which only occurred when accessing the drill-through actions, right?
Usually, the issue can be caused when you try to pass some parameters that cause the URL length to exceed 65,520 characters for a Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services (SSRS 2012), you cannot render the report, and you may receive the following error
    message:
The value of parameter 'param' is not valid. (rsInvalidParameter).Invalid URI: The Uri string is too long.
This is an known issue and already have the hotfix SQL Server 2012 Service Pack1 Cumulative Update 9 (CU9) as you know, you can try to reinstall this hotfix to fixed this issue:

  • Unexpected "result of the string concatenation is too long" error

    Hello,
I am using Oracle Database 11.2.0.
When querying my database with a common table expression which concatenates VARCHAR2 strings, I receive an ORA-01489 error although I'm doubting that I am concatenating more than 4000 characters.
To be more precise, I have a table entity which basically stores XML elements including their parent element and their sibling position among its siblings. The CREATE statement for this table is listed below.
    CREATE TABLE Entity (
ID NUMBER(10,0) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
    Name VARCHAR2(100) NOT NULL,
    Parent NUMBER(10,0) REFERENCES Entity(ID),
    Sibling_Pos NUMBER(2,0) DEFAULT 0
Now, I would like for all elements to be concatenated with their ancestor elements to a structure like this:
    "/root_element(sibling_pos)/.../ancestor_element(sibling_pos)/parent_element(sibling_pos)/current_element(sibling_pos)"
(where root_element, ancestor_element, parent_element and current_element are just values from the name column of the entity table)
In order to achieve this, I use a common table expression which concatenates the name and sibling_pos values as shown below:
WITH entity_cte (lvl, id, path) AS (
    SELECT 1 AS lvl, id, '/' || name || '(0' || sibling_pos || ')' AS path
    FROM entity
    WHERE parent IS NULL
    UNION ALL (
    SELECT lvl + 1 AS lvl, e.id, entity_cte.path || '/' || e.name || '(' || cast(e.sibling_pos AS VARCHAR2(2)) || ')' AS path
    FROM entity_cte, entity e
    WHERE entity_cte.id = e.parent
    SELECT lvl, id, path
    FROM entity_cte e
After inserting certain values, I get the ORA-01489 error, that the result of the string concatenation is too long. The maximum is referred to as being 4000 characters for VARCHAR2 in the oracle documentation and in various websites. Of course, it is clear to me by just using the common table expression like that, I could run into such an error. However, due to the structure of my XML documents, I doubted that the resulting strings would be more than 4000 characters long.
So, I rearranged my query in order to count the characters to be concatenated instead of actually concatenating them. The query is stated below as well, the changes are marked bold:
WITH entity_cte (lvl, id, path) AS (
    SELECT 1 AS lvl, id, length('/' || name ||  '(0' || sibling_pos || ')') AS path
    FROM entity
    WHERE parent IS NULL
    UNION ALL (
    SELECT lvl + 1 AS lvl, e.id, entity_cte.path + length('/' || e.name || '(' || cast(e.sibling_pos AS VARCHAR2(2)) || ')') AS path
    FROM entity_cte, entity e
    WHERE entity_cte.id = e.parent
    SELECT lvl, id, path
    FROM entity_cte e
    ORDER BY path DESC
The result of the query gives me a maximum length of 319 characters.
To be sure, I also checked the maximum level depth (indicated by the column named lvl in the common table expression), meaning the maximum number of elements in my path (the concatenated string). The result is 18. As I use VARCHAR2(100) for the name column and add 5 charcaters in each level, the maximum number of characters expected for 18 levels would be 1890.
So, now I wonder is the ORA-01489 maybe raised for another reason? Or is there something else I am missing?
Any help would be appreciated. Further suggestions to track down the error are more than welcome. Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the hint, BluShadow.
Still, I don't reach that limit of 1000 characters with my actual data (yet). I understand that if my data changes, I might run into that error with the given query. But I don't understand why this error is raised with the given data I have. The longest string in the column "name" is 32 characters long up to now. When I'm adding 5 characters on each level and I only have max 18 levels that should only result in max 2664 bytes.
    @odie_63
The database characterset is: AL32UTF8. If I googled correctly, than it just confirms what BluShadow said, that one character is represented by max 4 byte.
Regarding the sample data, the XML document that I am inserting and which causes the error comprises 1058 nodes. That means I have 1058 entries in my entity table. I think it would be no sense posting all of it here, but is there a way that I can attach a text file containing an insert script to this post?
Some sample data from the entity table orderd by the length of the string in the name column are shown below.

I can't view my website at www.artisancandies.com, even though it's working and everyone else seems to see it. No, I don't have a firewall, and it's not because of my internet provider - I have AT&T at work, and Comcast at home. My husband can see the site on his laptop. I tried dumping my cache in both Firefox and Safari, but it didn't work. I looked at it through proxify.com, and can see it that way, so I know it works. This is so frustrating, because I used to only see it when I typed in artisancandies.com - it would never work for me if I typed in www.artisancandies.com. Now it doesn't work at all. This is the message I get in Firefox:

I am trying to use my IPAD to video students in my conducting class, then email them the video for self evaluation.  However, many of the clips are too long to send.  Is there a way I can compress the clips and still send them via email so they can open and them using Quicken?
    Muzakmn

It depends on the clips' content, their current format, and how much you would need to compress them, but in most cases and with most email systems, it's difficult to impossible to compress a clip enough to be able to get it through the attachment size limits of most email providers and still have the video be comprehensible. You'll probably need to find a web site or other method where you could post the videos for download by the students.
You can try compression and trimming, though, and see if you can get the video small enough to email. An attachment often has to be 3MB or less to go through, though it depends entirely on the email systems on both ends. If you look to the right under "more like this" you'll find similar threads on the subject.
    Regards.

  • Send 102 bit data through the LPT port??I have to send 102 bit to my interface board using the LPT port, through one of the data line and be able to read data from the input line, I don't know how to realize such a task. Thanks

Let me describe you the program I have to write:
I have to send 102 bit serialy using one of the data line of the LPT port to a device and be able to read back data sent from a device register throug one one of the input port pin for instance pin 10 of a DB25, and synchronize the transmission by the PC clock(for write and read). If fact I am using 5 output control(D0...D4) signal from the LPT port, RST, TXD, CLK, CE,TEST, one input data RXD (pin10)
So the program should work in normal mode (write data, read data), and test mode (use the write p
rocedure). Since I am quite new in Labview I am little lost and I need some support or exemple that use a way to send more than 32 bit via one data line(in my case 102bit= 8 bit COMMAD(MSB)+88 bit SPI DATA+6 bits CRC(LSB)) and be able to read them back, place them in the register and be able either to monitor or modify them.
I know that there are plenty of exemple but if I can gain time by being helped it would be great.
    Can you please advise?

    Hi Beni,
find attached a SPI.vi - minor changed from one of
my typical SPI's (LabVIEW 7.1). With some simple changes it will fit to your application.
The only thing you need to do - prepare
    the bits for the input-array.
If you need some more comments - find one of my email
adresses in documentation of this vi.
    Regards
    Werner
