This issue can be caused by the McAfee SiteAdvisor extension.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

M…oSoft products aren't allowed on my machines but I use LibreOffice which is a clone of Office.
When I export from Numbers to Excel and open the result with LibreOffice, the dates are correctly treated.
To be precise, dates after 01/01/1904 are correctly treated. dates before 01/01/1904 are exported as strings but, as it's flagged during the export process, it's not surprising.

Try restarting
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for phone to restart (no data will be lost).

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys. Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it. It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process. Well, you have your answer perhaps as to why the phone was being sold in the first place - rather than being a registered developer, the previous owner probably downloaded and installed an illegal copy of iOS 7 beta on the phone and it has now bricked the phone. Some people did this and of course they could not wait to get their hands on iOS 7, but now it has been released officially, everybody moans.
The only thing you can do is try resetting the phone again. Connect it to iTunes and install iOS 7.0.2 and restore it as new and see if that works. This might help the phone but will not preserve data.
If it still won't work, then I suggest that you confront the previous owner of the phone and return it for a full refund and start again, but this time buy the phone from a legitimate source.

Every time I close my lid to my Macbook Pro, the computer screen goes black and restarts before I can use it again. Any idea how I can fix this?

It's been going on recently and even though I've tried to do an Software Update and click "sleep" before closing the lid, nothing seems to work...

I think the behaviour of closing the lid has changed between "before Lion" and "since Lion" - which OS version do you have? There is a free utility called InsomniaX that help control this behaviour - see http://semaja2.net/archives/206 for more info.

Yes it sounds like you have a corrupted preference file.
The setting you make in individual programs get saved to a Preference file in your Users/Library/Preferences folder.
All you have to do is drag out the old file to the desktop, reboot and load the program and the preference file gets rebuilt without your preferences which you reset.
For your case I beleive the preference file is
com.apple.desktop.plist

Usually if you have some kind of hardware failure there is some beeping during POST or most motherboards now have LED indicators to produce and error message based on the type of failure
So if its bad memory, not place properly, mismatched, processor not inserted properly, mismatched voltage or voltage connector not present etc it beeps or generates the error id.
Power supplies can be tested for failure. There are some walk throughs for testing just them with a switch, paperclip or a jumper (I'd suggest not doing this if you are not familiar with the dangers of electricity).
Memory can be tested with memory diagnostics programs like Memtest+
Processors can overheat if the proper precautions have not been taken usually you will get a POST beep or error code for that.
If the motherboard has no response then do the basics first:
Check power connectors and power supply. Once you determine that is not the case move on to other items like graphics cards in all the way or memory.

Question # 1 is what do you mean by "inherited"? Is this a case where the computer belonged to someone else? Your user would not be entitled to use a program licensed to someone else.

Once started the movie you have 24 hours to complete viewing.
