The service bit "write enable" in Java Socket

Hello,
I am trying to communicate with a third party application and I am having some problems. I use a standard Socket connection, were my application is the Server (ServerSocket). The connection is established, but no data is transmitted.
I talked with the guys behind this third party application, and they said that perhaps their application does not receive a "write enable" service bit of the tcp/ip protocol. I'm not a network wiz, so this is an unknown territory for me.
So I ask you. What is this "write enable" tcp/ip service bit? Is this per default on in java socket connections? If no, how can I change this?
Perhaps this is very basic knowledge, but I've googled a bit and have not found this "service bit".

This could refer to something in their
protocol which you aren't implementing correctly.Probably, but I believe they have "forgotten" to mention that it is required in our implementation.
OTOH if you are the server the transaction would
normally begin with a request from the client, not a
write-enablement from the server.The defined protocol smelled fishy when reading the "whitepaper", but we had to accept it (politics).

i´ve search across the board, technet and symantec sites but did not found a hint about my problem.
we drive a 2 node DAG (Location1-Ex1-mb1
Location2-exc1-mb1), on SP2 RU4 patchlevel with 40 Databases.
Since some time the backup of one - and only one DB - is failing with these events, logged on the Mailboxserver on which the passive DB is hosted.

to restart the MS Exchange Replication Service – BUT the mentioned eventID
8229 isn´t present on any of the both Mailboxservers.
The affected Database is active on Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server and in an overall healthy state. I found during my research, that below Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server, there are not removed shadow copies present!
This confuses me, since all Backups are normally taken from the passive copy of a Database.
So my questions to the board are:
* Does anyone is facing similar issues?
* Can someone explain why snapshots are present on the Mailboxserver hosting the Active Database, whilst the errors are logged on the passive one?
-          * Does someone know the conditions, why shadows copies remain and
aren´t removed in a proper manner?
What can cause the circumstance, that only 1 DB is facing such issues?
Any suggestion is welcome!

I´ve encreases VSS / Exchange Backup Log levels to expert, before starting
those things i´ve all tried now:
- Backup from passive DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
- Backup from active DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
- Backup from passive DB without GRT enabled (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
- Backup from active DB without GRT enabled(forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
All those attempts failed.
But brought some more details - the backup against the active DB states, that there is still a backup in progress and therefore this backup is cancelled by VSS.
The Solution was, that i´ve needed to restart the Exchange Replication Service on the Mailbox Server hosting the passive DB.
Backups are working again on all DBs!

We have 2 server DAG with a witness all servers are Server 2012 R2. Both members of the DAG are Exchange 2013 SP1 CU5.
We haven't seen this until recently, but during a VSS enabled storage snapshot the following errors occur. All of which are related to MSExchangeRepl and the Exchange VSS Writer.
Event IDs 2140, 2026, 2028, 2030.

According to your description, you could try upgrading to CU6.
In addition, you could review the Exchange Application (App) Event log and the Exchange System (Sys) Event log for errors , and some related resolutions for your reference.

OracleCachedRowSet error: The RowSet is not write enabled

I'm trying to used OracleCachedRowSet class from the ocrs12.jar (Oracle 9.2 Client) with an Oracle 9i Database.
When I try to insert a new row in the row set I get the error message "The RowSet is not write enabled, SQL State: null". I don't know what I have to do to write enable the row set. I think I do the same as described in Appendix A of the Manual JDBC Developer's Guide and Reference. I also tried to set the concurrency to ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE. Unfortunately I didn't find the JavaDoc API documentation of this class. It is not included in the Oracle/JDBC documentation.
The code looks like this:

thanks for your reply (even if it's nor vey helpful). I read off course the general description of the standard Java interface CachedRowSet (which is implemented by OracleCachedRowSet). I also implemented the scenario with Sun's reference implementation CachedRowSetImpl. This works by the way with this code fragment (however this implementation has other bugs). I think each implementation needs a certain set of properties which are be defined by the interface? The SQL statement executed is set by the method setCommand() and the statement string is "SELECT KUNDENID,NACHNAME,VORNAME FROM JDBCTEST" (sorry this is missing in the code fragment). The row set is also populated with the content of the table, so the statement execution works. I also tried to populate the row set with a result set created by a prepared statement. But the error message when updating the row set is the same. The code looks like this:

How to enable the NTFS Read/Write support without 3rd party software?

Is there a way to enable the NTFS Read/Write support of Mac OS X 10.6.8?

Well, I've used Paragon NTFS, but if you don't want to use 3rd party software, you should do this AT YOUR OWN RISK:
Open Terminal.app (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal)
Type "diskutil info /Volumes/volume_name" and copy the Volume UUID (bunch of numbers).
Backup /etc/fstab if you have it, shouldn't be there in a default install.
Type "sudo nano /etc/fstab".
Type in "UUID=paste_the_uuid_here none ntfs rw" or "LABEL=volume_name none ntfs rw" (if you don't have UUID for the disk).
Repeat for other NTFS partitions.
Save the file (ctrl-x then y) and restart your system.
After reboot, NTFS partitions should natively have read and write support. This works in both 32 and 64-bit kernels. Support is quite good and fast, it even recognizes file attributes such as hidden files.

The user account cannot access Oracle Database instance. And also how do you temporarily disable security software on the server.
Have you checked what I already asked for? "Try using the user account and access the Database Instance.
That will let you see if the problem is with the user account permissions or not."
If this does not help then you can contact Oracle as suggested by Dave.

Java 5, Linux, 64-bit: Non-ASCII chars over socket

Hi,
I am having issues with reading non-ASCII chars from a socket. I send a mixed message, with the first part in ASCII and the last bit in non-ASCII. There are no issues with reading the non-ASCII characters on Windows. However, when I try running the server on Linux. The following is a message sample:
Start message<CRLF>
фвафывафвыафыв<CRLF>
The second part (which is encoded in either Windows-1250 or KOI8-R), comes out as 3F (when you look at the bytes) on Linux.

You must be using Readers and Writers, and you need to make sure you specify the same charsets when constructing them. Don't leave this to the default, as this seems to vary across platforms and definitely has varied across releases.

I seems like you don't have any active transaction. Try start or get transaction before execute your required operations.
After it, commit (or rollback, if something wrong happens) the transaction.

I am using oracle jdbc cached row set to store data from a table. while trying to insert a row in the row set, and hence into the database, i am getting the following exception:

Any solutions please...

Not all databases support updatable resultsets (though all the major ones do, I think)
You should query the database and result set meta data to find out what it is capable of using the standard JDBC API functions. If the database doesn't support a feature that your code depends on then you can't continue. The alternative is to make your code flexible enough to work on all systems.

IOS6 update disabled the option to disable/enable location services

I have updated to iOS6 (from the earlier latest iOS5.x.). I now notice that the option to Disable / Enable Location Sevices (global / application specific) is now not possible post this update to iOS6.
Note, I have already tried the "Rest Network Settings" and "Reset Location & Privacy" neither of which seem to have helped, reboot the iPhone does not help either. please advise if you came across this issue.

Cannot start VM - IDE Emulator Failed to Power on with Error 'The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.'

HI all.
New install of 2008R2 on HP DL-380 G6. I have created (several) VM's none of which will start. If I remove the IDE Hard Disk and add a DVD of the OS ISO, it will boot and start the install (although with no HDD).
It seems like the IDE controller is working ok - it is what the DVD drive is using, but it cannot mount a VHD. The error indicates a driver is not working (although the DVD on IDE works fine) so something to do with VHD? I can attach the VHD
in disk management, so it does not seem corrupt - again I have tried with both dynamic and fixed VHDs.

Nevermind folks - I got it to work. All my configuration was correct; I had other issues with the ejb-jar file that the verifier informed me of (my previous deployments were with the verifier turned-off).
