The xerces problem in Sun ONE

I'm developing a WEB service for Sun ONE deployment (AppServer7).
I'm developing on Windows XP Pro though will deploy on Solaris,
Sun AppServer7 includes a XercesImpl.jar in share/lib. 2 kb
different than the one I usually use (xerces-2_1_0).
If I compile all my code against the Sun xerces implementation, I get a
class-def-not-found-error when trying to write any XML output.
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/xml/serialize/XMLSerializer
com.accelere.server.kernel.subscriber.FileSubscriber.write(FileSubscriber.java:123)
com.accelere.server.kernel.subscriber.FileSubscriber.process(FileSubscriber.java:100)
com.accelere.server.kernel.subscriber.AbstractSubscriber.run(AbstractSubscriber.java:155)
its really curious since I have no trouble with this running -outside-
of Sun ONE. I've tried everything I can imagine to try to get this to
work. I've put the real xercesImpl.jar in my WEB-INF/lib dir. I've
put Sun's there. I've put mine in place of Sun's.. you name it...
I've even blended the two jars together... Of course, both jars **do**
in fact contain a complete set of xerces classes, including the
XMLSerializer.
If I compile my our code against the normal xerces distribution I can't
load/read any XML in the AppServer 7 environment. This occurs because of
a class-def-not-found-error when trying to parse -any- XML input.
Documentbase not found... Sun sets the property.. then doesn't set
it back. I have no clue or idea of how to find outr which jar I'd
need of theirs to have their mystery class in my path.... Of course,
If I could create an instance of DOMParser I could query it for its
proerties, but these methods are not static.. and I through a class
not found exception when trying to make one.
There is no way to find out what classes Sun is trying to load, their
names etc.. or how to stop this from happening.
Does any one have a clue of how to work around this problem? Of course
Tomcat works fine.... but its not what the customer has specified.

The directory server reports all connections, requests and results in the logs/access file (under the instance directory).
All errors are reported in the logs/errors file.
Additional messages can be generated by changing the errorlog level and infolog levels via the Console, or via LDAP. Please refer to the Administration Guide and the Reference Manual for the details.

Ludovic.

  • The interface close! Sun One Directory Server 5.2 sp6

    Hello Everybody!
    We have a really weird problem with Sun One Directory Server 5.2 sp6 on Windows Server 2003 Sp1 we dont know why, or how, but sometimes after a while working on the directory server console the interface suddenly closes! Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

    Thanks,
    Actually the file I need should be readable - I need to parse it later on. But I think I just found the answer in the development kit. The utility is called dbscan and it works directly on the database files.
    Thanks again anyway,

    You most likely skipped the step of starting the installed server prior to trying to access admin URL. Please check this document:

    Hi ,
    To know the reasons for deployment failure , you
    could run your application using the Sun One verifier tool. Right click your application node and select Sun one verifier under the tools category.
    Please post the results of the verifier tool in case you are not able to resolve the problem.

  • Can not add the Palm Emulator to Sun ONE Studio 5 ME

    I am trying to add the Palm Emulator (version 3.5) to the list of emulation devices within the Sun ONE Studio 5 ME.
    First, it seems like Studio 5 requires that the emulator resides in a bin subdirectory. Second and here where the problem is. Once the emulator is identified by Studio 5 (as a "Standard UEI Emulator" and after I click on "Next", Studio 5 tries to get information about the configuration of the emulator and its profiles.
    I, immediately get an error (generated by the Palm OS Emulator) stating: "Don't understand the command line parameter "-version"." within a message box. Once I click OK, the Studio 5 says that the operation failed.
    This is as far as I could go.
    I would like to mention that I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1. I am also working with a ROM image that I downloaded from my PalmVx PDA.

    Hello Hassan,
    I've done the following: I've used Palm emulator that's included with WTK 1.0.4_01 provided with Sun ONE Studio 5, ME. If you try to execute application using this 'device' you'll be asked to point to directory with Palm Emulator 3.5 (the one you have), emulator.exe. Then it takes over and asks for skins, ROMs and other stuff.
    Hope this helps,
    Peter

    Regards,
    Hari haran

    My team solved the problem and I thought that we would share.
    The version of Xalan that was packaged with the JRE, that is installed by the Sun One app server, was at least 2 versions out of date. Updating the Xalan package solves the issue and the WAR file now works.
    Again, this appears to be only on the Linux version as the package deploys and works perfectly on the Windows version.

  • Problem installing Sun ONE Studio 4 update 1, Community Edition

    I recently downloaded the Sun ONE Studio 4 update 1, Community Edition and tried to install it. At one point it searches for a valid JAVA 2 SDK. This seems to go on forever. I quit after 5 hours of waiting. I already have Java 2 standard edition v1.4.1 installed. Can someone please help?

    Well thanks Chuck!
    With a bit of messing around and a LOT of patience I finally installed Sun ONE Studio update 1 on my laptop pc, running Windows ME.
    The trick was (I think) to apply both of the above fixes, but also a couple of things that was not quite as evident.
    1 - Do NOT install the SDK in "C:\Program Files\" or any directory path that contains spaces in the name! Apparently that causes problems, and is noted in one of the Knowledge Base articles.
    2- When making the file noted in the Knowledge Base:
    ( http://forte.sun.com/cgi-bin/WebX?[email protected]@.ee815f4 )
    - It says: Contents of this new file should be:.
    jh=<jdk Home Path> (for example, jh=c:\j2sdk1.4.0_01)
    Well it does NOT mention that there should be 2 lines in that file!
    Make sure you include a carriage return and a second "blank" line!
    OK, that's it. GO ahead & loose yourself in the IDE.
    I hope this does not cause undue traffic in the forums but what the heck...

    I have encountered similar problem when running Sun Application server 7 in Fedora Core 2.
    It seems that problem was due to improper shutdown of my system.
    Following was what I did to resolve the problem:
    Look for the JMS installation directory (installed & created together with the application server). Mine is in /var/opt/imq. In the dir,
    look for directory instances/domain1_server1 (if your server is running in domain1 server1). Look for a file called lock. Remove the lock file (rename if you are not sure).
    After that I was able to successfully start the server.

    Don't flush it yourself. The servlet container will automatically flush for you once its send buffer is full. You can change the size of the send buffer though.

  • Remote Interface problem using Sun ONE App & web server

    HI,
    1) I am using an S'less SB. I have local & remote interfaces. I am using the sun one appserver7 & the sun ones's htttp server. By default it doesnt pick up the remote interfaces is it ? How do i make my remote interfaces work ? what are the changes required in config/xml ?
    2) However i changed my client code (i.e my action class which is called by the struts action servlet ) to access the localhome rather than the remote home, but then i get java.lang.classcastexception.
    pls help !
    sanjay

    Hi parsuram,
    Thanks for the tip. After looking at the sample source code, I did finally figure out the solution - so I'll post it in case anyone else happens to be working with websphere studio has the same issue deploying on sun one.
    To access local interface ejb, you must have the following
    1. ejb-local-ref tag in the ejb-jar.xml like so underneath the <session> or <entity> tag of the bean which you plan to access the local ejb with.
    <ejb-local-ref>
    <ejb-ref-name>TestL</ejb-ref-name>
    <ejb-ref-type>Session</ejb-ref-type>
    <local-home>memory.simple.TestLLocalHome</local-home>
    <local>memory.tool.simple.TestLLocal</local>
    <ejb-link>TestL</ejb-link>
    </ejb-local-ref>
    2. similar ejb-ref tag in sun-ejb-jar.xml
    <ejb-ref>
    <ejb-ref-name>TestL</ejb-ref-name>
    <jndi-name>localejbs/module_memory.betaEJB/TestL68640023372300293</jndi-name>
    </ejb-ref>
    note: sun generates the <jndi-name> and overwrites whatever you put in that tag no matter what you put in there.
    3. here is the code to access
    Context initial = new InitialContext();
    TestLLocalHome tlHome=(TestLLocalHome) Initial.lookup
    ("TestL");
    //the string must match <ejb-ref-name> underneath <ejb-local-ref>
    4. note that the jndi name for the local interface bean becomes irrelevant. only the <ejb-ref-name> in the ejb-jar and sun-ejb-jar matter. furthermore, both <ejb-ref-name> must be the same or you won't be able to deploy.
    5. This is completely my fault for not checking the "proper" way to access local interfaces. in websphere, they let you get away without the ejb-ref tags and just use the string "local:/TestL"!

    Hope, you are considering Sun Web Server 6.1 (formerly known as iPlanet Enterprise Server ) for this task. Yes, it is possible to host multiple instances of web server on a same machine.
    you can create multiple instances using our GUI. here is the pointer to our docs on how to do this - http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-6512/6n8h7gq1n?a=view#bhabr
    If you are willing to give Sun Java System Web Server 7 (our latest release - http://www.sun.com/webserver) , then you can do this by CLI as well.
    sun one portal server 3.0 - is a very old release. Are you sure, is this what you want to run ?
    hope this helps
