Thick border around hyperlink in exported PDF (in some PDF viewers)

We are seeing an issue with the formatting of hyperlinks once a report is exported to PDF.
The problem is that the resulting PDF shows a thick black border around the hyperlink, but only when viewed in certain PDF viewers.  For example, the formatting looks fine in various versions of Adobe (both Reader and Acrobat), but when viewed in PDF Converter Pro (our company's new standard) we see the thick black border.
Also, GSview completely chokes and refuses to display the PDF.  Not sure if this error message is a red herring..
The problem occurs in PDF's created by the following Crystal environments:
- Full version of Crystal 2008 designer (even though Print Preview looks okay)
- A .NET web application built on Crystal 2008 components
- A .NET Windows application built on Crystal 8.5 components
It seems that our PDF output file has had this problem for at least the two years that we have been generating these reports, but was not noticed until we switched to a new standard PDF viewing application ([PDF Converter Pro|http://www.nuance.com/imaging/products/pdfconverter.asp]).
Initially, I thought that Crystal was relying on our installed PDF creation tool to generate the PDF, but I understand from this thread that Crystal uses its own PDF engine:
[Version of PDF export Engine|Version of PDF export Engine]
Any advice would be appreciated.  From what I have learned so far, I think our best option might be to find a way to get users to use Adobe Reader to view the problematic PDF files.

Hola,
does anyone know if this bug (and yes, it is a bug), has been fixed in any later version of crystal reports ?
I am using Crystal 2008 and any object with a defined hyperlink is getting a black border written into the PDF when the settings on the control explicilty say 'None' for all 4 borders of the object. This is true when the pdf exported from CR is viewed on the latest versions of Snow Leopard (Mac OSX 10.7) on any Mac computer.
This is a posting for a mac forum circa 2009 which still applies at the the time of my posting here - http://hintsforums.macworld.com/archive/index.php/t-106893.html
The problem is that the PDF exported from CR is being generated with the following settings for the border of the affected objects:
/Border [ 10 10 10 60 ]
if the top, left, right, bottom border in CR is set to 'None', then the reports designer should actually be outputting this:
/Border [ 0 0 0 0 ]
if you open the PDF in TextEdit on the mac and make the above change, the borders disappear. However this is obviously not a suitable work-around for an end-user.

    Unfortunately, it looks like that font has many issues. Googling 'Univers Condensed Fonts .net' gets a number of interesting posts. E.g.;
Univers 67 Bold Condensed Font does not show in my Flash Fonts List
See if you can select the font in the properties window of the VS.NET IDE.
It would also be interesting to see if the following will work in a new test app:
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object,

  • How to create a hyperlink when exporting .pdf?

    Hi guys,
I've been doing quite a bit of research on how to make an object into a hyperlink when exporting my .ai as .pdf.
So far I've come across guides that show the method of using Object > Slice and the Attributes' Image Map, but none of them seem to work when I open my exported .pdf.
How do you guys create objects with links when exporting .pdf?
    Thanks in advance.

    InDesign, most probably.
Or create the PDF in Illustrator and use Acrobat (Pro) afterwards to make links.
Depends on what's inside the document.

  • Border around Embedded Video?

What's a simple code that I can use to put a nice colored border around a video so it has some type of structure instead of only clip just being on the page.
    Thanks.
    Note:
Embedding video from Vimeo...copying code and then pasting right into html snippet.

If you used iFrame code in the snippet there's a setting " frameborder="0" you can change to whatever size frame you want. The following code came from HTML Basix - iFrame code generator:
    <iframe src="URL TO MOVIE FILE" style="border:1px red solid;" name="frame1" scrolling="no" frameborder="yes" align="center" height = "480px" width = "640px">
    </iframe>
The frame above has a solid red frame 5 pixels wide. Change as desired.
Or you could make a shape a little bigger than the movie, add a stroke/border the size you want and the color you want, add a drop shadow if desires, make the shape's fill none and place over the snippet like seen around the top table in this demo page

  • Indesign CS4 adds square boxes around images when exporting to PDF

When I export a brochure created in InDesign to PDF, for some reason the .pdf file (only the PDF - the InDesign version doesn't show these) shows faint squares around images/graphics that have shadow effects applied. These appear around photos, as well as graphic objects that have a solid colour background, for example an orange circle. Some suggested rasterizing images in Illustrator and that didn't help. Transparency doesn't seem to be at fault either. Would anyone have any idea what may be causing this and how to remedy the problem?
FYI, the PDF export pre-sets in InDesign are as follows (I only mention options that are checked, the rest are turned off):
    COMPATIBILITY: Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4)
    GENERAL:
         HIGH QUALITY PRINT (modified)
         Export Layers:Visible & Printable Layers
    COMPRESSION:
         COLOR IMAGES:
Bicubis Downsampling to 300 pixels per inch for images above 450 pixels per inch
         Compression: Automatic JPEG
         Image Quality: Maximum
      GRAYSCALE IMAGES:
Bicubis Downsampling to 300 pixels per inch for images above 450 pixels per inch
         Compression: Automatic JPEG
         Image Quality: Maximum
      MONOCHROME IMAGES:
Bicubis Downsampling to 1200 pixels per inch for images above 1800 pixels per inch
         Compression: Automatic JPEG
         Compression: CCITT Group 4
FYI - I use Mac OSX 10.5.8 and InDesign 6.0.3.
I have attached the PDF for your review.
    With many thanks,
    Alex

BTW, don't use OSX's preview to look at PDFs created by InDesign if they take advantage of high end features such as live transparency.
Preview simply isn't up to the task and you should be using Acrobat or Reader.

  • Hyperlink failure on last pages of PDF (exported from InDesignCS)

Per Bill@VT from the Acrobat Forum, I'm posting my Acrobat/InDesign question here as well. I thank you in advance for any possible assistance:
Hello. I have a 211-page catalog I've created in InDesign CS in which I have created hundreds of Hyperlinks (for Export to a PDF for CD distribution). I exported the file to Adobe PDF using general, automatic, medium compression settings (150 ppi) -- the CD's main purpose is for viewing. All the links work great on every page of the PDF except on the last two pages, 210 and 211 (there is nothing different on these pages than any other). The links on page 211 all jump to page 210; links on 210 go nowhere. Even the links set on the master pages don't work; the URL links on page 211 also go to page 210.
I wondered about it being a capacity issue in Acrobat 7. The InDesign file is 190MB; the exported PDF file is 42.3MB. If capacity is the issue, any suggestions that might help? In some cases, the names of the Hyperlinks throughout the document are long (parts of sentences); would that be causing a problem?
Has anyone ever encountered this issue?
Any assistance is most greatly appreciated.
    Operating System: MS Windows 2000
    InDesign CS
    Acrobat 7 Pro

I think the export feature in InDesign is a feature of that product and not Acrobat. Thus you will need to ask in that forum. There are folks here that may know because they also have InDesign. The long link names and potential problems suggests that you have an option in the export incorrectly selected and you are actually not using links. Acrobat will try to interpret things it sees as links as such (like WORD and other products) but may not get them right if they are strange links. In such a case you have 2 options: 1. Be sure you have the proper feature selected for exporting the links (so they are included) or 2. Fix the links so they satisfy proper URL formatting. For instance, spaces are not standard in links, even if MS products like to use them.

  • I have never used my mac for desktop publishing before and am having some problems.  This sounds really dumb, but I can't figure out how to put a border around a text box.  Also, how do you edit the border, i.e. border color, thickness, etc. Help!

I have never used my mac for desktop publishing before and am running into some real problems.  How do you put a border around a text box?  Can you edit the border - color, thickness, etc.?  Help!

I think the best solution is to read Pages documentation, go to Help and you have a long list of options. Pages is capable of quite sophisticated things, some features are above Nisus or Mellel, so it is not so simple to summarize things in a few lines.

  • Is there anyway to add a border around a PDF page

    Hello,
Is there anyway to add a 1pt black border around every Page in a Acrobat Document?
    Thanks!

    Hi Babs,
you could try and just insert a .png with transparency with your border on.
You can save the one below and insert it into your PDF.
    Hope this helps.

  • Footnote reference hyperlinks in exported pdf

    Hi everyone,
I have a large document with an automatic table of contents. When I created the TOC, there was an option in the table of contents styles dialogue box to check a setting called "create pdf bookmarks". I checked this and then when I exported to pdf, I made sure that the include bookmarks and hyperlinks were checked also. When the pdf was created, I was able to click on any of the TOC entries to be taken to the correct page.
The document also has footnote reference numbers within the body text that relate to footnotes at the bottom of the page. Similar to the way the table of contents created automatic bookmarks, I wondered if there is a way to automatically create hyperlinks from the footnote reference number to the footnote at the end of the page? If yes, is there an automatic way to achieve this?
    Appreciate any assistance.

Sorry to come back to this but I have a related question if that's ok.
When I export to pdf from indesign, I made sure that the include bookmarks and hyperlinks was checked. When the pdf was created, I was able to click on any of the TOC entries to be taken to the correct page. However I thought that all the entries would be included in the bookmarks tab but there's nothing there when I view the pdf.
I wondered if you could tell me how to get the bookmarks to appear?

  • Changing thickness of border around fields

    Hi
Is it possible to change the thickness of the border around a database field/ text box etc? I can only find an option to choose the type of border (Single, Dotted, Dashed etc), but not the thickness.
The field that I use in the report has the Can Grow property set to True as well.
    I use CR 2008.
    Thanks

    Hi
    @V361-V361
No, I cannot control the size of the text. So I guess there is no work around to this problem...
    @wickedweapon
I have just started using Crystal Reports. But it is possible to write formulae (Basic Syntax) to select the type of border.
    If {Table.ColumnName} > value Then
          crDoubleLIne
    Else
          crSingleLine
    End If
If you write the above code in the top margin section, then the border changes depending on the column value.
    Hope this has helps...

  • Export from FCE to iDVD, results in black border around movie

    Here is the problem....
I have edited a movie in FCE where all of the footage is 1440 x 1080
I export it using: File -> Export... QuickTime movie
I choose "self contained" movie and "audio/video", plus "chapter markers" in the pop up menu.
I then take this into iDVD amd all looks ok in the preview, but once burnt to DVD, there is a large black border around the entire movie.  It is almost like it is a smaller movie which does not fill the screen correctly.
Any idea why this happens and how to overcome this. When I lok at the exported movie from FCE- it is 720-x576 and not the full size- is this the problem?
    Thanks for any tips.

    Hi
    Is it widescreen ?
Did You in Your browser window set sequence and material to anamorphous. To me it was a revelation that the Browser window was exstendably to the right with lot's of columns - and one of them was Anamorphous.
Did you start a WideScreen project in iDVD - First window that opens after You clicked Start a New iDVD project (top button). At bottom this new window You set 4:3 (SD format) or 16:9 for WideScreen.
In iDVD You also need to go up to Project and down to Projectinfo
then set 16:9 here TOOO !
Proportion - Change it to 16:9
When I go from FinalCut to iDVD - I do
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used ( Important as cheap brands DO NOT WORK )
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set (IMPORTANT)
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Problems - then Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

  • Unnecessary border around pdf

I created a guide using Pages and am using the B5 size.  I had saved a previous version of the guide as a PDF and there was no blank border around the sides.  It was flush.  This showed up not only when I opened the guide in preview, but the borders of the PDF icon were flush with the sides of the icon as well.  Now, I have an extraneous border that shows up not only on the PDF itself, but also in the PDF icon.  I replaced one image in the guide with another and needed to "pull" the small boxes to make sure the image was flush with my guide and maybe this caused the problem, I don't know.  Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
    Matt

Well, in the end, I used one of the older tricks in the book and just cut and pasted the contents of the guide into a new document and then re-sized that to the B-5 size.  I don't have any additional insight, but thanks for responding.

  • Exporting from CS6 to PDF Hyperlink Problems

    Hi there,
I am developing a document in InDesign CS6.  The document is intended for viewing electronically and will include over 150 hyperlinks to different pdf files.
I followed the steps for adding a new hyperlink by chosing windows, interactive, hyperlinks.  I added a new hyperlink; selected "File" under the Link To menu; and then chose the file through the browsing option.
Here is my problem:  When I first exported to a pdf, the first few links worked beautifully!  I went through the rest of my document and entered all the hyperlinks needed (over 150).  I then exported to the interactive pdf; however, when i tested the file, the hyperlinks no longer worked!
I have made sure all the files are in the same file as well.
The intent of this document is to save the interactive pdf file, along with all the pdf files used for the hyperlinks, to a usb drive and distribute to over 100 employees with my company.
    Can anyone please help?
Thank you in advance for any advice you may have!

Select all, and in the tranparency palette turn on align to pixel grid.
Check the size of your outermost element in the transform panel to have the correct pixel dimensions.
You can also set your matte color to the color of the background.

  • I get thick lines from vectors after exporting to PDF. How to keep them thin ?

I'm exporting vector images to PDF and they are converting to thick lines when zooming out. The problem can by solve by unchecking the box "Enhance line" in properties of PDF reader but every single user have to do this and it's not considerable. How to freeze the lines thickness ?

I assume you are creating these PDFs from WORD using PDF Maker. I have had similar problems with vector graphics in WORD where dotted and dashed lines because solid in the PDF. When printed to the Adobe PDF printer, the vector graphics came out correctly. You might try that option. If it works for you, but you have other bookmarks and such that you need, then produce the PDF both ways. Then open the PDF Maker PDF and use Replace Pages to put the printed version in the PDF. It will only replace the basic document and leave the markup (bookmarks and such) as they are.
