Thinking to get FIOS. Need Info on DVR

I have been renting a TiVo Premium with my RCN cable tv service. I am leaving RCN and thinking to get FIOS which is finally available in my neighborhood. But I love the TiVo. Anyone has any hand-on experience wth Verizon's DVR?
In particular, I am most concern with 3 things:
1 With the TiVo, using their software I can transfer recorded shows to my PC. Can the Verizon DVR do that?
2 The RCN TiVo has 2 turners, so I can record 2 different shows at the same time. I chat online with the Verizon sales people, they say all their DVR's are single turner but then they said I can "watch one show while recording another. It even allows for recording two shows while watching a previously recorded show." I asked him how that's possible with only 1 turner in the box but they didn't know the answer.
3 Can I expand the capacity with an external hard drive?

Question 1: No, not directly. You can however copy material recorded on the DVD in real time to another recording device (e.g., a DVD-R device).
Question 2. The VZ DVRs also have 2 tuners, not one. They operate in the same way as the TiVo you described.
Question 3. The latest VZ DVR units support an eSata external drive (evidently 2 TB max).

Once again, KP is correct, but I just want to add that if you don't see the backup in the drop down menu on the summary page of iTunes when you choose the restore from backup option, then the backup is unfortunately gone. If you backup your computer, the iPad backup should probably be in that computer backup. I use Time Machine with my MacBook Pro and can access backups from months ago.
On a side note, I also archive backups from time to time. If you right click on a backup name in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>Devices (Windows) or iTunes>Preferences>Devices (Mac) you can save that backup or archive it. It will be date and time stamped. I have no idea why I do this to the degree that I do it, but I probably have 12-14 iPad backups archived in iTunes.

This freezing reminds me of really old Macs, long ago, in the days of the old-school peripherals like SCSI drives, terminators, scanners and the like. If you had a SCSI conflict, like the wrong device ID's or something, you'd freeze up like that. Back in those days you'd call 800-SOS-APPLE (AAPL?) and they'd run you through disconnecting all your extra hardware - Jaz and Zip drives, CD burners, scanners etc and then eliminate them one by one by adding them incrementally and testing for the freeze/bomb dialog.
But, today we have Firewire and none of those ancient issues (no free lifetime tech support either). My iMac's ports are all full, and I only know which devices are connected when I have to remove something for another device. iSight, scanner, card reader, external hard drive, USB soundsticks, etc. You wouldn't happen to have any SCSI devices hooked up, would you?
Out of curiosity, have you tried a different USB/Firewire port for the hard drive? Or run the hardware test DVD that comes with your computer? This weird freezing seems to suggest a problem with the computer, RAM or network more than a device. Bad devices, in my experience, cause kernel panics, not freezing.

Trying to get fios since it came out in NYC... Need advice

I live in the Financial District in Manhattan, NY and I have been trying to get FIOS for three years now, with no luck... I call in every few weeks and still no availability, I just get the typical 6 - 12 months response from VZ I have been getting for 3 years.
A year ago, the building across the street from me got FIOS. I called to let VZ know and see if I could get it too. They said that because it wasnt on my block, it wouldnt help me in my neverending quest to get FIOS.
A month ago, a building right next door (on the same block, about 5 feet from my front door) just was finished being built, and they have FIOS available to their residents, built into the building.... Yet when I call VZ, they still say it is unavailable to me, even though though my neighbor has it.
You would think VZ would be trying to expand their coverage as much as they can, yet whenever I call customer service to inquire about getting FIOS, I feel like I just get put on hold for an hour and I dont end up any closer to my goal.
Since my new neighbor (we even share a wall) has FIOS, does anyone have any advice on how I could get it? Getting FIOS seems to be almost as difficult as dealing with TWC...

Are you in a Multiple Dwelling Unit (condo/apartment)?
If so, VZ can not install FIOS in your building until your landlord/HOA signs two agreements.
If you landlord/HOA has not been contacted by FIOS, they can get in touch here:

I have been trying to convince my landlord for months to get Fios in the building. Here is a recent email exchange with him. Does anyone know if any of this is true, about the install damages? If it is true, then Verizon needs to get their act together!

What do you mean by "when I brought the messages up back in March"?
Were the messages on your phone? Simply because messages are on your phone does not mean they are still on Verizon's servers. You use internal phone memory to store messages on your phone. The messages do not stay on Verizon's servers until you delete them from your phone.
On the other hand, if you still have your phone and have not reset it since you stopped using it, the texts may still be on your phone. Good luck.

The iPhone is not a backup device. Your computer backs up the iPhone, not the other way around. What you use to back up your computer is up to you - Macs use Time Machine. I assume PCs use something similar.
If her PC backup is dead you will have difficulty extracting content from the iPhone since it is not designed to work that way.
All her Apple purchases can easily be transferred to another iPhone. However, her contacts will be gone, as will any music or other contact obtained from sources other than Apple.

Based on what you've posted, your computer does not have the right tuner. You need a QAM tuner to record locals from FiOS, or a CableCard tuner to record all local and cable channels from FiOS.

We just converted from Directv (three DVRs) to FIOS TV and am hoping I didn't make a huge mistake: The sales agent I spoke to said that the Multi-room DVR (Motorola QIP-7216-1) and non-DVR STB would enable me to get the same features I had with my Directv setup so each user could Stop/Start/Record programming from their own remote. Unless I'm doing something wrong, I can only perform DVR control functions from the real DVR. I can view recorded programming on the non-DVR STBs but pressing record for a live broadcast or trying to select a show to record from the guide doesn't work.
I have the ActiontecGen2 MOCA connected MI424WR router, three HD STBs (Motorola 7000), one standard definition STB and the DVR.

As you've found, you can only create recordings from the DVR. If you want each room to have the ability to schedule recordings, then you need a separate DVR in each room.
The FiOS Motorola DVRs cannot access recordings stored on other DVRs.

Thank you, Allen. My iMac is a 2009. I can't shine a light into the disc drive slot as it has a built in whisker cover that prevents anything from getting in. It will accept a disc half way in before the disc reaches a springy obstruction.
About 3 weeks ago, the computer locked up so I inserted the OS disc and reinstalled it. In general, the computer works just like it used to but we've had a few quirks appear; for example, this is one of them. Also, we can't figure out how to keep from having to sign-in when we turn the computer on. Also, we can't access our one on-line account anymore. Very strange.

I need to get the document info panel (Windows>Document Info) details through scripting in illustrator cs3. Kindly advice me is it possible or not.

I think sample code in the SDK contains a 'skeleton' plugin, I'd start with that. It should also provide a list of suites that get automatically loaded, I think it's in Suites.h. Just make sure AIDocumentSuite is in the list, and if it's not, just follow the examples in that file to add it. That should end up with a global variable called 'sDocument', which has all the suite functions as methods.
Then it's something like:
AIDocumentSetup setup;
AIErr error = sDocument->GetDocumentSetup(&setup);
// check error to make sure it's kNoErr
Then you just have to inspect the setup struct for (hopefully) the answers you're looking for.

Thinking of getting Infinity

There is a Usage monitor on the BT website for you to view your monthly broadband usage.... picture below.
I have up to 4 sometimes 5 PC/Laptops/netbook connected.
All mainly for surfing and youtube or catching a program or two on iplayer
Sometimes downloading a torrent.... This month I downloaded two singles but last month was two albums.
In the summer I watched the Eastbourne air display live for most of the afternoon and it's usage came in at 1.1Gb for that day.
So I could have done that every day for a month and a bit left over for surfing etc.
When I was with Tiscali on ADSL I was unlimited but Talk Talk took over and imposed a 40GB usage cap I was annoyed with them but they placated me by showing me my monthly usage figures which only came in at 6GB.
With that info I was then able to jump ship and move to BT ADSL with a 10Gb cap.
I was on that for nearly a year and during the year I received two advisory emails from BT telling me I was up to 7GB and getting near my limit.
Since moving to a 40GB capped Infinity I have never gone above 20GB. (Interestingly my usage has gone up yet I feel I am doing exactly the same as I used to?)
(Mind you I have a friend on Virgin who uses my monthly allowance in a day or two!!!!)
I asked BT "what if I found that I needed the extra usage".... they said that I could upgrade from Infinity "option 1" with 40GB cap to "Option 2" unlimited during the 18 Month contract... ie you don't have to wait until the end of the "option 1" 18 month contract.
Not sure if you changed whether you have to start a new 18 month contract or not... you might want to get that clarified.
What I don't do is streaming movies or gaming and have no Xbox so can't share any experience on that I am afraid.

I've the below requirement, caller_X calling in to the main line/script_A from the PSTN, the script routed the calls to the agent_A. Here the calling party is caller_X, and the called party is script_A (mainline number). When the agent_A completed the calls, he/she would like to transfer the current call to another CTI_RP/script_B, which handled by UCCX as well.
In such cases, the calling party should will display as agent_A or the caller_X? If i want to retain the calling party as caller_X, can i use the "Get Call Contact Info" calling party setting? and if i want to display the agent_A who transfer the call, can i use the "last redirected numberd"

Ok, I think I understand what you are saying. Here is what I think, in my own words, but copied from another conversation I had with someone who e-mailed me directly about the same topic.
It turns out that a transfer is consultative, meaning that, the Agent truly is the one calling the script, up until the point at which they complete the transfer.You are simply checking the Calling Number too soon in the script not giving the transfer enough time to complete.
To prove that this is actually the case in your situation, you could simply create a new script to do test transfer into and it could look like this:

When you go to setup your transfer, you will hear the system play back your Agent phone number. Then you will hear "three, two, one". You need to complete the transfer before the count down ends. If you do, then your caller will hear the second calling number playback which should be their own. However, if you wait all the way through count down and the second playback you will hear your Agent number twice. Note that the key thing in the script, is that I am "asking" for the calling number again with the Get Call Contact Info step after the transfer completes.You have a few options here:
1. Train your Agents to transfer quicker2. Put a delay in the beginning of the script after the answer but before the Get Call Contact Info step3. Move the Get Call Contact Info step further down in the script closer to where you need to use it
