ThinkVantage after New XP install?

I recently purchased a used T60 2007-CTO (off-corporate lease). The harddrive was wiped and only XP was reinstalled.
It seems that the primary drivers were reinstalled, as there is no problem with the wireless networking, but the ThinkVantage button doesn't work.
I've downloaded some of the associated programs/drivers for this, but after reading some posts in this forum and searching the Lenovo site for information, I'm not sure if this is all it takes to get this working again (and I don't want to cause more problems).
Can I just install these various programs and get this working again?
Is there a specific order that these need to be reinstalled?
Can I just load some of them or...
Are there specific applications that must first be installed for others to properly work?

The ThinkVantage button calls up different programs depending on when you press it:
Pressed at boot time, it will launch the Rescue & Recovery program.
Pressed after booting your OS, it will launch the ThinkVantage Productivity Center.
Action 1 relies on a special Lenovo boot loader in MBR, as well as one or more hidden partitions. This one is more difficult to restore if you don't have it. I'm not sure if simply installing Rescue and Recovery will restore this function, because your drive may need to be re-partitioned. The way I know will work is to restore your Thinkpad using the Recovery CDs. You would have to get those from Lenovo, they probably cost ~$50.
In my opinion, Action 1 is useful, but Acronis True Image works better (faster) to back up / restore your entire hard drive to an external one. If you'd have to buy the Recovery CDs anyway, getting True Image instead and backing up your system to an external usb hard drive might be preferable.
Action 2 is easily restored by installing the appropriate software and drivers. The easy way is to download and install ThinkVantage System Update, and run it to find and install all software for your ThinkPad.

Problem installing Flash MX04 after new OS install

Hello,
I have just installed WIN XP Pro that came with SP2 on my
notebook. I am trying to install my Studio MX04 suite but when It
gets to flash MX 04, it gets to 95 percent of the install and
shoots an error out.
The error is the following:
Unhandled Exception
Error Number: 0x80040703
Description: Failed to find dll function:
Macromedia_Licensing_Installer.CdaSysInstallEx2
Setup will now terminate.
This message comes after being 95% completed according to the
install progress bar.
Background:
The notebook is a HP Pavilion zd7160us with 512 MB RAM and
2.8 GB Processor
Totally new clean install of Win XP Pro with SP2 (just
purchased)
Legal copy of Studio MX 2004 (just installing again after
wipping the other OS off)
DW, FW, FHMXa, and Extention Manager all installed without a
hitch.
Was installed previously on same notebook with XP home.
I have found other forums where people are having this same
problem but with no resolution to the problem, and all of the
inquiries seem to be linked to SP2.
I would really like it if someone knew why this is happening
and how to fix it.

I seemed to have solved my issue!
For some reason there was a Flash MX 2004 folder in my
system, there should not have been because I formated the drive
when I installed the new OS. But I deleted that Flash folder as
suggested in another forum and the install went through fine. I am
now downloading the updater 7.02

Mac Pro refuses to boot after new drive instalation...

Hi
Could anyone shed a bit of light on my problem - Ive just got a new 500gb seagate drive, - when I load it up in order to format, im faced with a blank screen, and os x refuses to even think about booting up - there is also an odd click which Im guessing is the boot drive trying to start.
The new drive slots into place fine, and I made sure I was earthed out before touching it...
When the new drive is taken out, the system starts up without a hitch.
Do I have a duff drive? - or am I missing something blindingly obvious?

Funny that I saw this message, I am the person that had the exact same problem on the 20th of December.
After trying to install the HD, I had the problem as well. I ended up taking the computer in to my local Apple store, and they kept the Mac Pro.
It is now January 5th and I still do not have the system. Called them an hour ago and they said that the part (they didn't mention what it was) was on BACKORDER, so they had to decide if they were going to wait for the part or give me a brand new system. Hmmmm.... Could this be a NEW hidden problem for the Mac Pro now?
I wanted to purchase an iMac, but was afraid of the lock-up issues. I am starting to regreat my choice and wish I had got an iMac, at least I would have some kind of file server for my network
All I can suggest is to take it in to your local Apple store and let them check it, and then ask if they could fix it right then, or you two could have a system that's not able to be workable.

After having a new router installed by our cable supplier, I have been unable to use my printer with my laptop nor my desktop computer. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall my printer on both computers?

Time Machine error message after new motherboard installed

Hi folks,
I just had a new motherboard installed on my MacBook Pro, and now whenever Time Machine tries to do a back-up (on the same external drive I'd used previously for Time Machine), I get an error message that says there isn't enough space.
It appears that the attempted back-up tries to back up the entire internal MacBook drive (rather than just the latest updates).
In other words, since the external drive already has the old data on it, attempts at back up fail.
Is there something I need to update? Or, do I need to delete all the data on the external (i.e. Time Machine) drive and let the system do a complete back-up?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

You could try the procedure in the article linked below, but I recommend that you first start a new TM backup on another drive. You need more than one backup anyway. I haven't tested the procedure myself and I can't promise that it won't destroy your backup set, even if you do it right.

Lost Linksys password after new windows install

I have had my Linksys E4200 for a few years now. When I'm home my cell phone and laptop both use my wireless connection. My desktop computer had the main Cisco console which provided the passwords to both my cell and laptop.
My problem is I recently had a virus attack to my desktop from clicking on a bad email link. I couldn't remove the virus so I did a clean windows install. I can't find my Linksys router box but I found my CD disc. The disc is asking for my password which is probably somewhere in my original box (which of course I can't find now). My router has the model number and mac address but I don't know how to reinstall my console without my original password.
I never disconnected my router when I did my new windows install on my desktop, and my computer still recognizes my Linksys router. When I click on the device icon it says, "network connected", Catagory: wireless network router, Manufacturer: Cisco, Model: Internet Access Server. Is there enough information so I can recover my password and install my console again? Thanks...

It is asking for the password you set up for your network. If that will not work, then it would be best to reset and configure the router again.

ITunes not recognizing original IPod touch after new one installed

I tried to set up new IPod touch but itunes wouldn't recognize it. Downloaded latest version of itunes. Was able to set up new IPod touch but now old touch not being recognized by itunes. Went through the troubleshooting guide with no positive results. Old (unreconized) touch is fully charged. Restarted computer. Restarted itunes. Changes usb ports. Nothing working. Any ideas?

iTunes Not Recognizing iPod Touch. Prior to your posting, I had already read the article you referenced (to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service per article "http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747").
Prior to your posting, I had also read other articles in various "Apple Discussions" (forums) that suggested this recognition problem could be resolved by uninstalling/re-installing iTunes 8.0.2. Some implied that you could just re-install iTunes 8.0.2 right over the currently installed one without bothering to uninstall it.
Based on those postings, I "gambled" last night and simply downloaded and re-installed iTunes 8.0.2 (without uninstalling it first). I noticed during the installation that the Apple Mobile Device agent you referenced was also re-installed. Well, my gamble paid off! After the installation (and a reboot?), iTunes onces again RECOGNIZED my iPod Touch.

Cannot back up with Time Machine/Capsule after new drive installed in MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running 10.8.5.
I just had a larger hard drive installed by Tekserve. This is to be my first back up since installing the new drive. I have 2 back ups: one to my Time Capsule via WiFi, the other to an external Le Cie via USB.
Time Machine just gives me preparing to backup but goes no further, just stuck in that mode. I suspect that it can't find my old drive, which it backed up till now. But I cannot find a way to correct this possible snafu. I do not see an option in Preferences.
Any thoughts?

Just so we are clear.. were your files all recovered from backup after the install of the disk?? Did you supply one of the backups to the company who did the installation so they could do the recovery?
You do want to be careful not to damage the old backup.. it might really be better to start over a clean new backup.
TM should be reset. It sounds like they did recover your settings.. Please check Pondini here.

Also use A1 to check what the log is saying about TM.. the old backup will need to be fully indexed and checked if you intend to keep using it.. and that will take several hours to the TC if you use wireless.. The problem people expect fast starts but that is not possible unless you are doing a new backup.
You can also check some of the other help files there eg D1 long preparing for why that happens.

OS install problem after new HD install

I very proudly installed a new 250g HD in my crashed mac mini A1176 ( I did not have anything backed up). After startup I got the ?. I put an install disk from macbook and restarted.I got to the installation stage and It said I couldn't install that software. I then partitioned and formatted the new HD (per forum posts) but still could not install OS. For some reason I also could not eject the disk. I tried all the tips and eventually opened it up and took out disk.
Next I tried to start up with Black OSX Tiger install disk- it won't show up. stuck on ? disk. And now I still can't eject that disk either.
Any ideas? Did I do something wrong on HD install? How can I get this working again?

First, do you have the original disks that came with the Mini? You stated that you tried "black" Tiger disks. Depending on your Mini's version, it could have shipped with 10.3.7, 10.4, 10.4.2, 10.4.5, 10.4.6, 10.4.7, 10.4.8, 10.4.10, 10.5 or 10.5.6
Let's say your Mini shipped running 10.4.5; Black Tiger 10.4.0 could not be used for the install.
Download and take a look at the Mini section of Mactracker http://mactracker.dreamhosters.com/ for all Mini information.

Serial number no longer valid after new HD installed

I have a macbook that originally came with version 10.5 and I had Final Cut Studio 2 running fine on it. About a month ago it shut down and I was told it was a hard drive failure and the hard drive needed to be replaced. I had it sent in and replaced, but when it returned they had installed version 10.6 on it. Not a big deal i figured except that when I try to re-install FC Studio 2, it told me that I needed Rosetta in order to launch the install. I had Rosetta installed fine and now seemed to be up and installing. However, after I type in the serial number, it keeps saying that I have an invalid serial number. I have tried several times and still cannot get it to pass.
I do have this FCS already installed on my MacPro and had it installed fine on this Macbook until the hard drive failure. My question is, could this be getting hung up because it was installed on another hard drive already or could there be an issue with new OS?
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. This is not an upgrade. It is the original version right out of the box. I was simply trying to re-install it after my hard drive was replaced. I understand the groups with letters and numbers and tried it several times looking for possible visual mistakes with no luck. I even tried entering it without the dashes and that was denied. Again, I have loaded this onto my macpro and this laptop before the hard drive failure with no problems. Perhaps a call to Apple is needed to verify the serial number?

My 3G won't restore to backup after new software install

I tried downloading the new operating software for my 3G and had minor problems. After reading online that it is best to go thru the restore process versus updating, my husband and I both followed the procedure online. We both backed up our phones and then restored them to factory settings. This installed the new software on the phone. After that, we restored to back-up. My husband did this with no problem. I have had so many problems. Basically, my phone will restore to factory settings with new software, but when I try restoring to back0up, the phone just freezes up and continues to the reboot screen over and over and over until you hold the nap and home buttons to shut down phone. I keep getting error messages such as "your iphone cannot be synced. the required disk cannot be found.
HELP!!! I called apple and after 4 calls, the only solution was to take m phone into an Apple store for service. The problem is I live over 150 miles from an Apple store.
Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I have even tried just running on the restored phone with nothing on it for 2 days and tried backing up today and had the same problem again. Currently, I have no contacts, no emails, no photos, no music, no anything and I live and die by my phone.

Can't read old mail after new Tiger install

I recently installed Tiger (and archived my old system) as an upgrade from 10.3.9. Since then, I can't read old messages in Mail. The original messages are deleted from my isp server once the messages are downloaded by Mail. When I open any message in Mail received before I insttalled Tiger I see, where one would normally see the body of the message, the following:
"The message from [email protected] concerning “Your receipt from Apple Store, xxxxx” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
When I attempt to reply to one of these messages, I can't type anything into the body of the message.
I am online when this happens. I see no "icons" (ie an lightening bolt) next to my inbox; everything appears to be normal. I, also, have approximately 20 gb of free space on my hard drive.
Any suggestions as to how I might retrieve or open old messages? Thanks.

The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:

More specifically, if this is a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problem. A similar procedure should allow you to fix other mailboxes that might also be affected:
1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to fix the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn’t need to have an .mbox extension.
4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
6. Move any strangely-named Messages-T0x... folders to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or an indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn’t work as expected. If you’ve been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
8. Open Mail.
9. The account’s Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that’s not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that’s on the Desktop.
As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated now. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move the messages anywhere you want and get rid of the imported mailboxes afterwards.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Take a look at the following article (also referenced in the thread I mentioned at the beginning of this post) to learn what you might have done before upgrading to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON’T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:

Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.
