This board seems so slow!K7n2delta-2

;(Hi every one, i am new to this room, I seem to think that my current rig is so slow that older rig 2.2xp is faster than my new rig.  It takes ages for windows XP home to load, there is alway hard drive activity, and all of my games play are crap.  Is there anyway i can improve this
Cheers for any comment!
James

Hi,
Well if Windows XP is constantly accessing these .AVI files it will slow down your machine. If you press Ctrl-Alt-Del and click on the processes tab and look to see if explorer.exe is taking up much CPU time (around 90-100%) then this could be part of your problem.
As I said earlier though, this might not be your problem - I only suggested it as a possible cure for your constant hard drive activity.

  • For everyone having memory problems with this board

I have been working on my memory problems with this board. Memtest failed every pass yet memory was fine and board was fine. Was using Kingstone Value Ram
Set bios version back to 1.7
    set preformance to fast
    set memory to
    2.5
    4
    4
    8
Set voltage to 2.7 if that does not work go to 2.75
now working great no more blue screens or os getting corupt it seems to run like a charm
Thanks to the people who have posted sefull iformation even know you have to dig deep to find it.

i was having mem problems with this board. But i set up bios v2.2 - ram voltage 2.75 - performance mode: slow and ram timing by SPD.
Seems to work great for me but my video card is messed up so my comp dies every ones in a while.

  • Why this DSL service so slow

We just got the basic DSL service, and I was suprise how slow Verizon is.
A small few megabites file takes a year to download.
Verizon siads this is a high speed service, when and where ?
Not here for sure, someone should take Verizon to Court for lie to the customers.
    Anyway this can improbe ?
    Thanks

Log into the Westell at http://192.168.1.1/ from any PC and then do the following, based on what you see.
1: If you see a Red and Black Verizon page with a bunch of information on it, click on the System Monitoring at the top navigation and then choose Advanced Monitors on the Left hand side Navigation. Press Yes past the prompt if any appears, and then choose Trasceiver Statistics.
2: If you see a Blue and White Westell page, select Troubleshooting, DSL, and then choose DSL/Transceiver Statistics.
Provide the Information you see there by copying and pasting it. It will contain information such as Attenuation, Margin, Power Level, and show the modem speed.
Should you be asked for a login, try the following:
    admin/password
    admin/password1
    admin/admin
    admin/admin1
    Your Verizon Username and Password
The information I'm asking for here will let users who help on this board see how your line is running. If the physical loop is OK, they will have to check into other things. In the past, Verizon tech support agents used to ask for this information over the phone to verify how a line was operating, even though they could probably pull it up from the equipment on their end. Lately it seems that many of the agents no longer ask for this information for whatever reason (either they cannot see it, or are not trained to do so) but it's often a great place to start when slow speeds and disconnects are occurring.

  • Calling a multi value parameter seems to slow down report

    Hi
Nearly all of my datasets use a multi value parameter at present which from testing seems to be causing a long delay.
If I change the dataset to not call the parameter and manually enter the values in this works quicker, the only issue being if I need to add an additional value I need to then do it on multiple datasets rather than one parameter.
A way around this I thought was to do the below which doesn't seem as slow as my original method.
To try better explain I have done this
    SELECT
    Practice.ibvSalesByJob.JobType
    FROM
    Practice.ibvSalesByJob
    WHERE
    Practice.ibvSalesByJob.JobType IN (N'1', N'4', N'5', N'8', N'12', N'17', N'40', N'45', N'60')
I then have a parameter which has default values > dataset > JobType
The actual dataset shown in the report then shows
    WHERE
    Practice.ibvSalesByJob.JobType IN (@ABSJobs)
Does this make sense or is there a better way of doing what I am trying to do?
Is there a known issue with Report Builder 3.0 and multiple parameters?
    Any help/advice appreciated.
    Cheers
    Cheers Chris

    Hi Chris,
According to your description, when you create a multivalued parameter, then specify its values from a dataset, the report is running slower.
In Reporting Services, all datasets within a report will be retrieved when running the report. In your scenario, if you specify the parameter values from a dataset, it’s possible to cause performance issue. If parameter doesn’t have too many values, you
could specify the values for the parameter with specified values in Report Parameter Properties.
Besides, in Reporting Service, the total time to generate a report include TimeDataRetreval, TimeProcessing and TimeRendering. In your scenario, you could run the report in report server, check the table
Executionlog3 in the ReportServer database to analyze which section take much time. Then you can refer to this article to optimize your report:
    Troubleshooting Reports: Report Performance.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

I have a revision a imac g5 with the same problem with only macbreak podcast. I know leo laporte said that the podcast was done in 1080p and my computer with its built in 64 megabyte graphics card might have trouble with this podcast but your machine must have a better graphics card than mine. 1080p requires at least 128 megabytes of graphics memory built in. My machine played this podcast on quicktime fine until they came out with the update to quicktime last week or two ago. I was going to upgrade my memory until I came accross your story and your machines doing the same thing with much better specs. I think it might be the quicktime update that is causing a problem. Maybe Leo will talk about this problem since he is doing a mac show about macs.

  • At wits end with this board

I am going to try and make a long story less long but here it goes:
I finally put my board in last week and it has been one problem after another trying to get this thing to work. Initially I tried using my old windows install, but because that used software RAID on my old ASUS it didn't work. I had a backup image on an external 1394 HD. I tried imaing that back over (Drive Image 7) to the RAID array on the new board but the drivers wouldn't load correctly with it (nvraid.sys not found or something like that) After that problem I imaged it onto the 250gb SATA drive I set up as a standalone (unhooked the RAID array) the old windows install proved to be unstable and problmatic (not too huge of a suprsise) so I decided to reinstall. About halfway though the install where it asks for info (name, key etc) I had to borrow a PS2 KB/mouse from a friend because the USB ones weren't working, not a defect but anoying nonetheless (neither BIOS setting for kb/mouse made a diff). Finally get windows up and working with my USB KB/Mouse, install the mobo drivers and reboot, now windows wouldn't finsh loading, it just sat at the splash screen. Had to reboot and use "last known good configurtiong" installed the 5.10 drivers from nvidia's website, rebooted and everything appeared OK for once. Except I started getting DRIVER_IRQL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL ( I think that was it) BSOD's. To add insult to injury, I tried reconnecting the 250gb SATA drive and windows sits at the splash screen for about 10 minutes before it continues loading, and you can't see that HD in windows. I decided to leave the 250gb drive connected and reinstall windows, problem is when it says "setup is starting windows" or whatever, it just sits there as well.
I am running out of ideas. This isn't my first system build, and not even the most complex but has been the most difficult. I ran memtest on the RAM and even swapped in some old PC2100  I have, didn't seem to make much of a difference. I called for an RMA today, so I can send it, which looks likely. Oh, and I haven't changed any overclocking settings, because well, I am not an OC'er

It could still be the MB but let the guys exhaust possibles first. MB's rarely are the problem but they get the rapo because it is so hard to isolate them from the other componants. Better to start by isolateting everything that is not absolutely needed tem, porarily and make sure that at least nothing else is the cause. Heck I have even had a cable that stumped me for a while and I was ready to say it was a HDD or controller problem.
OK so the moral of the story is to isolate things by slimming the system down to just what is needed to test. Yes I know I already said that but this is one of the most basic tenants of Troubleshooting. Get down to basics. Do you have another Drive, Cable or power connection you can swap into that circut? Is there another HDD channel you can use to check if it is the controller.
See where we are going with this?
Hey it may still be the MB but let's find out what the Problem really is before guessing. Also note that I was with another Major MB makers board for a while. I gave up as it was not helpful. I am here because of the gang here who likes to help out. Maybe changing to something else is a bad idea even if you do need a MB swap. Just some food for thought.
The list of issues I have had has been diverse enough thus far, that I don't really see how it could be effected by anything other than the mobo and say the processor:
    - I have tried swapping out the memory so I know that isn't it.
    - Can't be the kb/mouse either as I have tried both ps/2 (borrowed) and the USB ones I own
    - Can't be my optical drives as I was still having some of the problems the cable unplugged from the mobo
    - I don't really see how it could be the HD's as they worked fine with my old board, the only diff is that this board now has 4 SATA ports. I don't know anyone that has a board with 4 sata ports so I can't try out all 3 drives at the same time.
-I don't have an extra PS that would provide nearly enough wattage or amps that my Antec does, so do suppose it could be that, the symptoms would lead me to believe otherwise.
    - I suppose it could be my video card, however it never gave me probems with my old Asus so it would have to be some weird imcompatability, I am not ruling this out, but I don't have another card I can throw in to test it.
I am not against getting the kinks worked out with this build by any means but the kind of problems I am having leads me to believe that it would be the mobo, or one of the components in it. With that said I am all ears.

Can you PM (Private Message) on this board.
Or is that function disabled.  Or never existed....
    Can't seem to find it.

Thanks.  I figured that.  Just thought I would ask.  Kind of odd can't PM  But OK.

  • My external hard drives seem to slow down my iMac

    Hello,
I've encountered an odd situation in that the external hard drives I use to hold all of my files seem to slow down the performance of my iMac. I have two Lacie 1 tb externals plugged into my 2006 2.0 Ghz iMac with 2 gig of ram. I've had these two externals for about two months and for the same amount of time, any other item (ipod, card reader, thumb drive) I'd plug in would take several min to mount onto my computer. From there, the data transfer from my external or internal hard drive is slightly delayed and slower as well.
I unmounted these externals today and plugged in a thumb drive to test and it immediately mounted to my computer! I never thought an external could effect the mounting of other, smaller, externals!
I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do to fix this problem? My itunes music files are stored on my externals and I'm a photographer, so I'd need regular access to my externals to get to my pictures.
Thanks for all your help. I can usually find the answer to my problem by browsing around in discussions, but I find this situation to be a bit of a unique one!

    kromedomio wrote:
Sorry, It's connected to my iMac via Firewire 400. I have the externals connected to each other via Firewire 800.
In regards to types of files, I have my itunes library, photo (Raw Canon 50d files), Adobe (photoshop, indesign, illustrator) and Word files all on the external. I basically moved everything off my internal and store it all on my external now, so I'm accessing it a lot through the day.
I'm wondering just why you did that. Surely you know that F/W 400 is much slower than your internal HD?
I'd be inclined to move things that involve heavy I/O during editing (photos and videos, especially) back to the internal. I suspect you'll see a large improvement.

  • High Level of Frustration on This Board With CS4

There is a very apparent level of high frustation evident on this board among the various message strings regarding the terrible overall performance of CS4. There are so many bugs reported I just can't keep track.
We have people insulting each other and talking about a class action lawsuit. And what does Adobe do? Laugh themselves to the bank as they have signed us all up as Beta testers who paid for the privilege of testing this crappy version.
I have used Premiere from version 6.5 and watched it evolve. Each version had its startup problems, but none as frustrating as this one.
I would not mind being a Beta tester but I object to having to pay for the privilege.
    What does Adobe say?

The English language is rather strange:
There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England nor French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. Quicksand works slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. Why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?
If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend. If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call the thing left? Is it an odd, or an end?
If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?
How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which an alarm goes off by going on.
English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

  • Why is this Macbook pro so slow?

I've had 3 other macs prior to this one and have never expierienced such a slow computer by Apple.
I got the 15" 2.2Ghz, so naturally, I was expecting a lot better than my previous 13" models, but from near enough day 1 this thing has been slow as anything.
I'm constantly getting the rainbow circle loading wheel, processes freezing up, things as simple as trying to navigate through the finder or system preferences, and everything seems to take way longer.
I've barely installed anything also, I installed Adobe CS5 and a couple small applications but not much else, besides Chrome and adium for IMing.
At first I was questioning if I need more ram? My previous laptop had 8gb, and this only has 4, but for what I'm doing on a daily basis, 4GB should surely be way more than enough?
Everything is just super slow and sluggish

  • WVC80N - No email, despite all previous advice from this board

    Hello all,
Like many on this board, my WVC80N won't send email notifications.  I've tried every piece of advice I can find and still no luck - are there any options left, or do I just have a lemon?  Here's my current status:
-On motion, the log reads: SMTP: Failed to send E-mail to "[email protected]"
    -Test email fails as well
-Camera is visible on the web both at its local 10.0.1.x ip address, and on the Internet via my dyndns address.  It streams video fine, and detects motion fine according to its logs.
-Camera is assigned the static IP address of 10.0.1.6, both on the camera and on the router.
    -Firmware is v1.0.01 build 00
-My router (Apple time capsule) is successfully forwarding ports to the camera.  I've given it port 80, as well as the "alternate" web port of 1024, and am also forwarding the RTSP ports 554 and 500.  I've even forwarded port 25 just to see if it would help.
-I am 100% certain my mail server credentials are correct, that my ISP's SMTP server accepts traffic on port 25, and that it does NOT require SSL.  I am able to send mail from my mail client using the exact same credentials from the same Internet connection.
-I've rebooted it plenty of times
-Camera is on my wifi network, but is fully functional other than this email problem.
-DNS server is set to my router's IP address, but also I've tried setting it to the google public DNS servers of 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as well.
    -TZO DDNS is disabled
    -UPnP is disabled
    -Multicast RTSP is disabled
So...... yeah.  It seems like I've covered every base I can find, and still not dice.  Is there anything I've overlooked?  Otherwise it looks like I'll be replacing the damned thing.
    Thanks!

I have been using the camera for about 2 years with no problem, sending emails through my Comcast account.  Two weeks ago, the camera started failing to send emails.  After resetting everything, trying several different routers and buying anew camera, I finally decided it must be an SSL issue.  I set up a yahopo account and tried these settings but it still fails.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?  I have spent 3 hours on the phone with Comast tech support.  I even agreed to pay for their top-level support.  After explaining the problem, they politely refunded the payment and sent me packing.
were you able to check with Comcast if SMTP port (25) was blocked from their end? you need to ensure that it's OPEN...
make sure to enable "Specify an SMTP Server". for comcast, it must be smtp.comcast.net but you may verify with them. also, enable "My Mail Server Requires Authentication" and indicate your comcast email's username & password.
I went through 3 different levels at Comcast.  Each time, I told them that I assumed that the problem was that they had started blocking port 25 for non-ssl.  The first person had me try a few different ports w/o success.  The higher level said that they only block ports on an account specific basis and claimed to have verified that my port 25 was open for non-ssl but also had be try a few other ports (the same ones)  No settings were changed on the camera between the time it worked and the time it stopped sending mail.  I have reset these many times.  I even bought another camera, hoping it was a hardware problem.  I found some suggestions for other servers (yahoo, gmail) and tried those.  I moved the camera to a different physical location using Mediacom.  I could not use the Mediacom mail account b/c they said they have No ports open to non-ssl but none of the others worked.  I would note that the camera was originally at a physical location using a Mediacom modem but loging onto a Comast mail account.  I also had a second camera at the physical Comcast location, also loging onto the Comcast account.  Although I can still see the cameras on the internet (using DYNDNS for Ip address), no camera at either location can send mail through any account I have set up, although it did wonderfully for the past 2 years until a few weeks ago.
I would not mind paying the $20/year for TZO but it looks like you also have to buy the email service at $12/mth.  Is that correct?

  • How far can u Oc with this board?

    Title speaks for itselve.
    Mine AMD64 3000+(CG) max oc of FSB215 ([email protected]) - bios 1.1 - Corsair twinx xms 1024mb pc3200LL

I stopped messing around with it at 215x11 and 4HT with 1:1 due to being sick of reseting the BIOS all the time.
I read on this board all sorts of advice and they seem to contradict at times.  Some say to not bother with stepping down the memory and to keep it 1:1 while other say to increase the FSB regardless and lower the ratio to keep the memory at stock speed (Since I have PC3200 KingstonVR type).  I haven't really tried that yet because I maxed out at 235 (1:1) before it gave me the BSOD and I tested 3DMark03 around 230 with hardly any difference then my setting at the start of my post.
Some advice says to not bother relaxing memory timings since you need and want them to be as low as they can go anyway.  I already have that on mine so the only thing left is to up the clock (FSB) and mess with the HT frequency multiplier.
BTW - about the HT setting?  as you increase the clock what should we shoot for as the end number?  is it 1600Mhz (FSB*HT freq multiplier*2???)  It seemed to not make a difference in my top FSB reading wether the HT multiplier was at 4x or 2x.  Not sure what is going on there.
My memory goest to DDR430 at 215 but the moment I raise above 215 it resorts to close to ~204Mhz as reported in memtest86.  Would you keep it at 215 to keep the DDR430 or raise FSB to let the memory go back to DDR400?
I am new to all this so that is why my questions are many...

  • [Solved - ext4 is just super slow] New Install Seems Very Slow

After 8 years of Gentoo I decided to replace my main development box with Arch.  No X, just screen, emacs, w3m, and various compilers/languages.
My old box is a 5 year old Gentoo box.  AthlonXP 2200 (1.7Ghz), 512M.
The new Arch box is a based on a Shuttle K48.  It's got an Intel E2200 (Dual Core, 2.2Ghz), 2G, new SATA drive.
Just to see I did a clean checkout of Clojure (a new JVM language) and did a "ant" on both boxes.
    Gentoo: 20 Seconds
    Arch: 51 Seconds
I don't think it's a Java issue (same JVM version btw), it's just the only thing I can really think to compare it against.  When Arch hits the compile step I hear a fan go off and my hard drive light stays on for the durations.    I used ext4 on the drives, gentoo is using reiser.  Nothing else seems particularly slow, but I'm not doing anything on it really like I said.  A pacman install will happen almost instantaneously (which after 8 years of Gentoo is a welcome change).
Anyone have any ideas?  I'll post whatever info you think might be useful.
    Thanks.
Last edited by baetis (2009-05-02 16:02:40)

So I reinstalled with reiserfs so the comparison would be against the same filesystem type.  The compile time on arch is now down to 20 seconds.  It still doesn't make sense though.  The compile is using 2 2.2Ghz cores, it should be crushing my old Gentoo box.
I might try again with ext3.
If anyone is curious if their ext4 shows similar issues try this (you'll need 15M on an ext2 /boot partition):
    On an ext4 partition:
    pacman -S svn
    pacman -S jdk
    pacman -S apache-ant
    svn checkout http://clojure.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ clojure
    cd clojure
    ant [take note of time]
    As root:
    cd /boot
cp -R <path to where you checked out clojure> .
    cd clojure
    ant clean
    ant [compare times]
Do it a few times, ant clean then ant on both partitions and see how you fare.

  • App store seems very slow

App store seems very slow on my MacBook Pro.  If I turn off Keychain->Preferences->Certificates->CRL then it runs normally, but leaving this off might be a bad idea for security reasons.  Is there a better solution?

If you have any third (application enhancers) apps such as Little Snitch or anti virus software installed, that could be why the App Store runs slow for you.

  • Tired of this board

I've had this board for about 6 months. It's not a bad board but for sure it has not been perfect either. The latest Bios 1.9 is suppose to add "stability". Were all the other versions unstable? I've had ram issues conflicts etc...
I decided to buy myself something really stable to replace it. I bought an Intel D875PBZLK FMB1.5R board. For sure this is a quality board, so far seems stable as hell. It likes my low latency ram and even has it set properly unlike the MSI. Raid works. Everything works. Isn't that the way it should be?
I see such a differance between the two. Boot time is much faster. Like I said MSI is not a bad board, I will probably keep it for a spare machine. But for sure there is a point where you have to do something. My choice for Intel was a good one.

And I do agree with you that these 865/875 boards can be a little unwieldly at times and lots more quirks than the last computer I had(PIII). Luckily I enjoy the challenge...mostly
