This is getting very silly now

new look vision was installed a few weeks back and straight away we noticed colour distortion when watching Via vision. now all our recordings are mostly black and white, flickering with the odd return to colour, but generally so poor, that our vision is like watching an old 1960 film.
BT = one seriously fed up customer, that is no longer paying for such rubbish

What are your connections ie how is it set up

I've had this Dual 2.0 since last May, and while it was fine at first, it justs keep getting worse. Surfing is fine (most of the time), menial tasks aren't a problem and the overall performance, i.e. start-up, navigating the interface and such are great.
But God forbid I try to use this thing to work. Photoshop always freezes on me. It's not a matter of if, but when. I've reinstalled Photoshop plenty of times, from the disk and no mas. This thing doesn't work.
The worst part is I can never just Force Quit. It hijacks the whole machine and I have to power down by the button, which I hate to do, and after tonight, with good reason. An illustration I've put far too many hours into is gone. The folder is there, everything around it is there, but the main file gone. I have Prosoft Data Rescue running right now in hopes of finding it. But just that it happened is really miserable and a sign that things are getting worse.
iMovie, which is made by Apple for Apple doesn't work. Importing video files freezes it. For software that's not after market or third party, this is poor. iPhoto is not worth the effort; the spinning beach ball gives me fits.
Sometimes when simply sitting still with me away from it, the fans start to blare and the machine freezes.
The machine is put together as such:
A WD Raptor 74 GB 10,000 RPM drive for boot and software.
Original 250 WD harddrive for content.
2.5 GB of RAM. 2 GB of after market RAMJET Ram.
The only after market things plugged in at all times is a Wacom tablet and a scanner, which is rarely ever turned on. No printers, no camera's or USB/Firewire cards. I have one, but am terrified of putting it in. I avoid fonts, as I really don't need them much and that issue also makes me nervous
I can't fault the RAM, as the machine handles almost everything else fine and the hardware tests and Tech Tool Pro say it's fine.
I've paid a pretty price for this high end machine and find this to be just ridiculous, what I'm dealing with.
Aside from the standards of repairing permissions, and PRAM Zaps and the hardware tests that say all is well, is there something I'm missing? I really need this thing to work, as in earn a living.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Sorry to say, these RAM tests do not find bad RAM. That said, I'm not sure what they're actually for. I suppose they'd find REALLY bad ram, but you're RAM can still be bad after passing these tests any number of times. I'd hold out that your problem is still might be bad RAM. The symptoms you describe--random kernal panics that are difficult to reproduce under the exact same circumstances--would point me this direction.
Furthermore, the applications you describe having problem with exercise all or most of your RAM. The other tasks you say you don't have problem with don't.
Having gone though hundreds and hundreds of complaints such as yours when I was having similar problems suggested a pattern that "bad RAM" affects.
Since you have at least two sets of RAM, it makes it easier to systematically diagnose. Start by taking out the 3rd pary RAM, reboot and reset PRAM, and look for signs. Put the other in after taking out the first and reboot, resetting PRAM as well. If you're really ambitious, keep in mind that certain RAM slots may be bad. Pay attention to your user manual as to which slots must be filled first, before populating others. Some machines it doesn't matter, some it's critical. Some machines require identical pairs of RAM installed in symetrical slots. Again: User Manual.
I'm not saying this is definitely your problem...just that it's hightly likely. And, with each kernal panic you've experienced, your hard drive could become corrupted. Personally, I'd suggest running the Disk Utility after every panic...especially while you're trying to diagnose it. I think some of the other problems you may be experiencing with files is related to open files getting trashed at the time of the kernal panic.
I've paid a pretty price for this high end machine
and find this to be just ridiculous, what I'm dealing

All the more reason to see if the problem is, in fact, something you introduced, or something you should be mad at Apple for. Either is possible.

Hi, Vincent.
1. Troubleshooting freezes and hangs is not unlike troubleshooting kernel panics: the steps are virtually the same. For a more exhaustive troubleshooting procedure, you could use the steps in my "Resolving Kernel Panics" FAQ.
My FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work through to the end, following the instruction in the order specified, including the "If all else fails..." section if a cause or resolution is not found in an earlier troubleshooting step therein.
2. You've not stated what version of Photoshop you are using. At a minimum I'd recommend assuring that you have all the latest fixes from Adobe for whatever version you are using.

I have read about this happening, but the only solution is for people who use Norton, and I do not-it is not even on my laptop at all..
I have firefox 4.0. Every time I close firefox, some of my SAVED bookmarks are missing when I re-open later. I tried re-saving them, but then when I close and re-open firefox later on again, some more bookmarks are gone..this only happens when I exit for a while..if I close and re-open firefox right away the bookmarks are all still there.
This is very frustrating! I never had this problem with firefox 3.whatever..PLEASE HELP??
ps. i am not very technical, so if there is a bunch of hard things I have to do myself to fix this, then I think I will switch to Internet Explorer..

Yes - see [[options window - privacy panel]]. There is an option to clear some of the history when Firefox closes, you can customise that.

WHY is TBird continually asking for my passwords? It lets me into my email whether I give it or not so what good is it? This is getting very old.

When I do enter my password TB tells me it's wrong but it IS NOT wrong - I've checked them in preferences they are correct. What is the deal here?
Also, problem #2: I do not want TB to be my default client, Every time I log in I get a window offering to set TB as default with no choice not to. This comes up every time. I have a screen shot of it but there's no attach button on this screen.

First check that the password will get access to your webmail. If you are prompted to update the webmail password, then follow instructions to update it.
In Thunderbird, remove the stored password, both mailbox and smtp.
* Tools > Options > Security > Passwords tab
* click on 'Saved passwords'
* click on 'Show passwords'
* highlight the mailbox and smtp passwords for account
* click on 'Remove'
* click on 'Close'
* click on OK to save changes to Options.
* Close thunderbird and wait a short while for background processes to complete.
* Restart Thunderbird.
* It should ask for password, enter at prompt and select Password Manager to remember the password.
* Click on OK.

Maybe you have a setting to check to see if TB is the default client?
* Tools > Options > Advanced > General tab
* under 'System Integration'

It's been a while since I asked a Question, so I cannot remember if there was a facility to add an image at the time of creating the question.
But once a question has been created, below every 'Post a Reply' text entry box, there is 'Add images:' and a 'Browse' button.
click on Browse button, locate the saved image and click on Open to upload it. You will need to add some text in the reply box to give the image some context. Then click on 'Post Reply'

Version 5.0 will not unload itself from memory when I close it. This results in not being able to open FF later unless I manually go and close the application in Windows task manager. Any ideas as this is getting very frustrating.

I have this issue on 3 computers that were just updated with FF 5.0. When I close FF, the application "Firefox.exe *32" remains in memory. Trying to open FF again later greets me with the error that FF can't open because another instance of FF is already running. Previous versions did unload completely and never caused this issue..

I found the culprit. Norton Internet Security added an add-on to FF called Symantic IPS 2.0 which is causing FF 5 not to close properly. I have no idea what it is for but FF works properly again with it disabled.
For reference, that add-on worked fine with FF 3.x as well as FF 4.x. It just doesn't seem to like FF 5.0.

I could not use my headphones on my new MBP, because the sound was always too loud, even on the smallest setting. It appears that lots of other people have similar problems, so here is a way to fix this:
To get very fine sound volume control I use soundflower fromhttp://code.google.com/p/soundflower/. You have to restart after installing it. Then go to preferences/sound/output and choose soundflower(2ch). Start soundflower from the applications folder, click on the flower symbol in the top pannel and soundflower(2ch) built in output. Then go to Audio setup and change the master for soundflower(2ch). This way you can get the global sound less loud or you can amplify it.

Did this ever get resolved, as I am having the same issue. Trying to learn LR5 AFTER a decade using Aperture. I was able to set up a validated account but when I try to send an e-mail or photo I get the simple " Failed to Send " message. Using latest version of Mac OS X.

ITunes will not open, this is a disgrace, getting very desperate...

Ok, I am going mad here and getting very angry.
Last night, after updating to the very latest version of itunes, it now refuses to open.
I have clicked the desktop shortcut, used the start menu, gone into it through program files and still nothing.
I have disabled my anti virus and firewall (Bullguard) still no good.
I have installed and reinstalled itunes + quicktime together, nothing.
I have removed each of them individually and then reinstalled, again nothing.
I have installed an older version of itunes, nothing. (one from over a year ago)
I can see in the task manager Itunes.exe has loaded and so has itunes helper, but nothing appears on screen. I have ended both those processes and tried loading again, nothing.
I have been looking though numerous online forums with suggestions from other people but nothing has helped me so far.
At the end of my patience, I did a destructive reinstall and restored my PC to its factory settings, thinking that is bound to solve the problem.
That naturally took a while but I have just downloaded and reinstalled itunes and quicktime.
To my complete and utter horror, nothing happens.
So I tried an older version of itunes and again, nothing.
I have created a new user account on my laptop, no difference.
I have also installed itunes to a different directory, not c/programfiles and still it refuses to launch.
Please, please can someone help me with this. My Laptop is running windows vista, 2.0 Intel Dual Core Processer T5750, 2gb ram, (I did have 4gb but one stick failed a few weeks ago and I haven't replaced it yet)
I really cannot see what else I can do, especially as I have restored my PC to its factory settings and it still won't work.
My laptop is about a few hours away from being chucked out of my lounge window...

I have followed instructions found elsewhere to do the following:
•“C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe” -remove (Note: delete the quotes displayed here and type again using keyboard)
•Navigate to the following folder in Windows Explorer: C:\Program Files\Bonjour
•Rename the mdnsNSP.dll file in that folder to mdnsNSP.old
•Restart your computer
•Delete the the Program Files\Bonjour folder
All successful, now there is nothing that has anything to do with iTunes , Quictime, Apple Software Update, Bonjuor,...etc on my machine, now what do I install so I can get iTunes to work on Win 7 x 64 bit edition... ?

Hi Rosemary,
These devices will get very warm (even uncomfortably so) when charging. From my own experience this is exacerbated if the device is in use at the time of charging or if the device is in a case that does not allow air to reach the device.
You will see a warning on the iPad's display in the form of a yellow triangle and exclamation mark long before the device reaches a dangerous temperature.
As long as the device is no warmer than a nice cup of coffee, you're in the clear.
As you have mentioned that your battery is draining quickly, this could indicate that the processes running at the time are rather intensive on the iPad's resources and this would naturally raise the temperature of the iPad.
If you have a look in Settings>General>Usage and look for the Standby and Usage times toward the bottom, are the two numbers significantly different? If you see that the Usage and Standby times are identical then you are experiencing a software issue where the device is not entering sleep as it should when not in use.
