When having a couple of network volumes mounted and working in various applications:
If for some reason those volumes aren't available no more due to a shutdown of the server cpu the finder will still keep em mounted till one tries to access those. Then Finder will tell you that the volumes are not available and offer a "disconnect" this is all fine....
But this here aint fine.
While working in an appliation other than the finder, lets say an application that is blocking the view for the finder, and this app suddenly wanna access some system item related to the finder, thus causing the finder to "activate" the app I was working will hang and refuse to force quit(which in this case was good) when I open the force quit dialog it tell me that my app isnt responding... So I panicked as I was in something important... By mistake I hit a short key that happened to be the expose "show all windows" and whoops there it was - buried back underneath 10 windows : Finder alert: Volumes 1,2 and 3 are not available Do you wanna disconnect...
If I had not seen this message I would have thought that OS X had hung and would have made a hard reset.....
I say: If it is SOOO important for the finder to hang the whole system and it's running apps cuz of 3 volumes missing it should at least have the intelligence to prompt me with an alert that is SYSTEM WIDE.... I mean it's not that OS X aint giving other alerts... There are millions of STUPID alerts no one really needs but this finder alert that causes all apps to hang aint even brought to the foreground....
I shake my head and state once again that OS X has taken over Apple...not the other way around.

Can't Add Files To RW DVD

Hello,
I'm a musician and successfully backed up a Pro Tools session with no Problems to a -RW DVD. I tried to back up a second session and got an error messege stating I couldn't not add to the DVD. From Apples Help Menu I learned the only way I could add the other session was to erase the DVD and burn both session at the same time. This is unexceptable for obvious reasons. Is there a work around? Do I have to backup each session on it's own DVD? This is a serious design flaw in my opinion. I thought RW media was designed so you could add data to your disc when needed. What's up with that?

There is no defined standard for a multiple-session DVD. Therefore to add files to a RW-DVD you must erase it first.
I thought RW media was designed so you could add data to your disc when needed. What's up with that?
No, RW media is designed so that you can erase it and reuse it.
You can create multiple sessions CDs with CD-Rs you don't need CD-RWs. The RW has nothing to do with the ability to write multiple sessions.

Ai Features That are LONG Overdue

Illustrator is now going on 24 years old and the following features really need to be improved, updated, changed what ever phrase your want to label it as it needs to be done.
- Zoom Ratio: Why limit the ration to 6400%? This assumes too much. If I'm building an illustration for example I have some detail within the greater context that is very small and yet I still need to zoom in on it but I run into this ceiling all the time? The only way around it is to copy out the element into a different file, increase size, make the edits needed, reduce size to original and copy back in. This is unexceptable and a major waste of time. You need to at least double the ratio. This limitation is only compounded by the next common build problem with Illustrator.
- Redundant Points: Illustrator is netorious for adding an ungodly amount of unnecessary anchor point on even simple tasks like expanding a stroke, or expanding a width tool shape. It's just sloppy, no nicer way to say it. But even when you shape build using basic shapes and do so with the pathfinder to create even iconic geometric forms illustrator will add in anchor points that either piggy back on each other or are so close to one another that they behave like they are ontop of one another. I say behave because you can't zoom in far enough to tell and trying to select them is an exercise in futility. And adobe evangelist told me one time when discussing this problem that it's because illustrator is too accurate. Sorry but that is BS. FreeHand NEVER had this problem EVER not one time in the 15 years I used it did it create any redundant (seemingly or otherwise) anchor points.
- Inner & Outer Glow Effect: I'm in the habit of always saving before I go to use inner or outer glow effect because it crashes the app so often it's now just routine to save because more than likely it'll take Ai down when I go to use it. Something about a placed image like a tiff that causes this. I've reported this since CS2 and you still haven't fixed it in CC. Actually using a lot of the effects still feels like beta IMO. Just changing a color on an inner feels like your in a B movie version of Inception. Why can't I just select a layer in the Appearance panel and click a color to change? Is it really necessary to bury stuff so deep I need a bathtub to fall back into to create my art?
- Gradient Blends: When I select a color on a gradient blend why doesn't that color become highlighted in the swatches panel? This is another one I've reported since CS2 and you still haven't fixed it in CC? When ever I select anything that relates to a color being changed it should select the current color in the swatches panel by default all the time. When you have hundreds of colors it's very inefficient to the work flow when I have to slow down because your app is too dumb to tell me what color I have selected in a gradient.
- Type: Make the edges of the actual letterforms interactive with content in it's editable font format. For example if I slide a guide over instead of snapping to type box, it snaps to the edge of the letterforms. Or if I align something it aligns with the displayed letterforms not the type box it resides in. I'm always haveing to make a copy, convert to path and use that to align with or snap to than toss it. It wastes time. Type in Ai is already a huge bag of hurt, but this one thing would help alot. At least make it a preference we can choose to turn on or off. Giving the user the chose is always preferred over enforcing something wholesale on all. FreeHand had a shrink wrap setting for type that came close to this and at least made alignment easier.
I'll post more as I recall them.

i keep thinking about getting hold of the last Freehand just to have a play around. i have an older mac at home with 10.6.8 so i think i can still run it. it was a dodo before i started working professionally, unfortunately. does that make anyone feel old? hah

Playlist update problems

As a premium member I expect my Spotify playlists to update on a weekly basis as it is suposed to work but that hasn't happened. I have the Top 100 Hip Hop tracks by Spotify playlist and it hasn't updated since 4/6/15. I am not really sure why this occurs but as a paying member one should be able to manually update a playlist if it fails to do so on its own. If Spotify is to get any more of my money they had better fix this. I see many have these sorts of issue and it's just sad because from what I read around the internet is that this has been a problem since 2012. Fix it already. Get some real support for paying customers as well. From a happy but disappointed subscriber. (If any Spotify employees actually read these).

I am so disappointed. I paid for 3 months of service to give it another try and my playlist still does not update weekly like its supposed to. This is a playlist labeled as " Top 100 Hip Hop Tracks on Spotify". it is by Spotify, I would be embarassed about that. You would figure that that playlist would update as intended since you folks are hosting it. This playlist still has not updated since 4/6/15. I could maybe even see this happening to a free subscriber but for a paying subscriber this is unexceptable. It does not seem to be something you guys can get under control either since I see all over the place online that this seems to be a common problem with playlists. When I pay for a service I expect it to work properly. The playlist updated correctly twice and then just stopped updating. I really wish someone would take this a bit more serious and get it fixed. I must say that when my 3 months run out if its still not working then I will not use the service any longer. I am not going to pay for something that does not work correctly. I expected more to be done with this issue the first time I posted about this.

Apple won't let me sync with more than one computer

How crazy is it that Apple will not let you sync with more than one computer! I have three computers! One in the kitchen one in my room and one at my parents house. These are all my computers, but if I try to sync my iphone5! with my computer at my parents house itunes says it will erase all my data! I have legally purchased all my music, so I have bought the rights! which means I can have the same songs on mutiply computers.
I've seen posts like this before, so I know Im not the only one who knows that this is unexceptable! Apple knows too! So heres how we gonna do this, **** itunes and **** apple, they can suck it! I'm sick of Apple and how they try to control everything you do, with their limited youtube video capacity because they "dont allow flash".
All Apple care about is taking your money, otherwise they would listen to what their customers are saying. These posts are on an apple site after all.

I understand what you mean. If you would have a little more technical background to what is happening when you sync and iOS device, you would understand that the reason for syncing with only one computer is not to control you but is rather to manage the syncing.
For exemple, how would you manage to backup a device on multiple computer while some songs or apps are on your iOS device but not on the computer? Copying them back to the computer would only result in what you don't want, keeping different iTunes library on different computer.
The very best solutions for you is either;
Make one of your iTunes library the master with ALL your media files and use this one for syncing your device. You can easily manage all your music using automated playlist (like one for all the music with an older date you would decide).
Pay for iTunes match and ALL your song (even those you haven't bought from iTunes) to be available in the cloud for you to stream directly to your iPhone. This however have a monthly fee.
I agree that on one thing Apple is controlling; it's by not allowing you to extract songs from an iPod. Giving home sharing now, that would solely restrict you from illegally copying music to others. But again, you must understand that this limitation isn't to be powerfreak, it have been required to secure the music industries and make iTunes Store possible in the first place.
And make shure you active Home Sharing as it will give you full access (stream and copy over wi-fi from any computer and iOS devices) in between your iTunes libraries.

BT Infinity: Engineer has failed to turn up 5 time...

Please can someone offer some advice I'm at my wits end, after 30 phone calls, speaking to over 50 people, over 5 hours of calls, repeating the same story over and over I'm still no where near getting what I've paid for! BT are possible the worst company I've ever dealt with!
It all started when I put a request in on the 3rd February for a home move as I was going to move in with my partner and take my BT broadband over with me (got it for the free Sport). They pursuaded me to upgarde to Infinity which I was happy to do and an appointment was booked for the 7th March. So on the 7th I took half a day off and waiting for the engineer to turn up as they said he needs to do something to the box inside for me to get infinity, well as you can guess he didn't turn up. When I contacted BT I was informed the line had been activated but the engineer couldn't find the address, and he tried contacting me on an old number. They then informed me that the earliest appointment was on the 21st March! I said this was unexceptable as I had booked this is over a month ago and they then agreed and they decided to fast track me in for the 10th. I again took another half day off and yes the engineer didn't turn up again, the reason this time is that they said that it hadn't been booked correctly and they were 'ever so sorry' and they could then book me in for either on 2 slots of the 13th or one slot on the 14th. They said I would get a call by8pm on the 12th to confirm which slot the engineer was coming to. I didn't get a call so my partner stayed home all of Thursday just in case. When I contacted BT on the Thursday evening they said that the engineer was turning up Friday morning. I took another day off and as you can guess again there was a no show! The same reason was used that the engineer couldn't find the place and that he'd tried calling (no he didn't)! I had actually got through to a guy who admitted that I had been lied to a few times! He then booked a fast track appointment for today the 20th and I booked off another half day, I was told that the engineering team had accepted the the meeting and he would be showing up from 1-6pm! Guess what? Still another no show! Reason? couldn't find the place, which is a total lie as this time I had put a big meter sign with BT and an arrow written on it!
I've now put in a complaint but I know nothing is going to be done about it! How can a company treat people like this? I looked on these forums and it seems it's quite common for BT to lie - surely OFCOM should be fining them millions - whats the point of OFCOM if they just sit back and let this happen?
BT has cost me over £350 as I'm on contract work and don't get paid for days off, but from what I see all they're intitled to give me is £10 for each missed appointment and 4 months free service which I would get anyway if the service I ordered isn't completed in 13 days but they will only look into this once it's 'RESOLVED' but when will that be?
I've phoned Sky and they've said with them they can give me fiber optic without an engineer turning up and it will take no more than 5 days. It looks like I'm going to go with them tomorrow as BT have not got a clue!
I wish there was a group of people that would join together to take legal action that I could join but I guess that's just fantasy, a bit like BT engineers! Does anyone know if they're breaking the law by doing this and lieing to the customers?
Needless to say I'm warning everyone I can to stay away from BT as they make your life a living hell!

After 10.8 Upgrade: Build in CD/DVD Player is DEAD

After 10.8 Upgrade my CD/DVD on my MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz is dead - NO more CD/DVD Player - All Music or Movie Discs will be useless.
10.8 is full of unnecessary things(Gatekeeper, scrolling issues, no RSS in Safari...and on and on...) - Total Rubbish :-(
After reinstall 10.6.8 all working again.

10.8: Waste of Time, Money and Expectations - Apple is going down the drain.

Pavilion wont boot

Okay so the night before my Pavilion laptop was working absolutly fine which concerns me because the next morning, POOF; it stops working. The laptop turns on but doesn't boot up. Its just a black screen with the caps lock light flashing three times in a loop. I found out what this meant which was a issue with the memory. I do not have the confidence to open up my laptop to then take it out. So I clean it, bery gently and safely, getting rid of all the dust. NOW IT WONT EVEN TURN ON. I'm a universty student currently in Australia, coming back in 2 weeks. All of my work is on that laptop. I have no money to get it fixed. I have a job but only enough money to support myself for when I get back. I need this laptop, it has my whole life on there and like I said not enough money to pay for a new one or to get it fixed. This is unexceptable HP, its not even two years old and its been taken care of so so well, not even a scratch on the casing of it. I'm furious and especially because HP dont even have a email contact! I dont have a phone, I have had to pay money I dont have to use a computer in a Australian Libaray to write this. I need my laptop!! I need either a contact email or someone to help me please! Otherwise I'm screwed. People have told me to seach for legal advice if HP dont help me. Can someone please help?

I just recently had the same problem with my PC about a month ago and I think I might be able to help! There were 2 different methods that I did, One is fairly easy the other you had to be very cautious while doing. 1. Do a hard reset with the battery 2. Reseat the RAM Memory (Most Effective) When you do a hard reset, you must make sure that your PC's battery is functioning as well as the cord. Al you have to do while performing a hard reset, all you have to do is take out the battery and remove the power cord. Hold the power button for about 30-60 seconds. Plug in the cord and power cord and try to turn it on. This method worked for me about 2 times but its not going to work 100% of the time. The second method is reseating your RAM memory. The flashing caps lock indicates that there is something wrong with it. All you have to do is unscrew and remove the small panel of plastic protecting the RAM, remove the RAM, then correctly place the RAM back in! Most likely this will work. Be careful that you place the RAM in properly. If all else fails have someone else do it! GOOD LUCK ^-^

Stablilization option gone from FCPX?

It seem there is an issue with the stabilization option in FCPX. THIS IS UNEXCEPTABLE. Please help explain to me how i can fix this ASAP. Please, This is such a huge problem. Any help would be appreciated.

What version are you using? What are you doing to try to get stabilization? Where? Browser?Timeline? Clip? Compound? Anything else you want to add about what's happening on your computer? I guess you're not seeing this

WRT54G Disconnecting / Hanging

I have a new WRT54G with the latest firmware and I am experiencing hanging issues with the router where in order to get it working again, I have to disconnect the power and plug it back to restart it.
There is no problem with the Internet connection.
On a daily or hourly basis the router fails - the net connection is dropped from the cable modem and the wireless connection fails. The computer fails to wirelessly reconnect to the router and plugging in the ethernet directly from the computer to the router does not bring back the net either. To get things working again, I unplug the router and plug it back in. This is unexceptable. This is a new product and it should work - it does not.
After first experiencing this issue, I thought a firmware upgrade may help the issue, but it did not. The status page of the router shows the latest firmware version number after the firmware upgrade.
Please post your solutions to this issue - outside of running the router over with my car.

You can get a V6 replacement, if you're willing to scream loud enough.
After 3 form letters with Tech support, telling me stupid things to try, I finally got them to open a case and give me a way to contact them about an RMA.
Downside, talking to India.
Called and after getting the run around by a call center agent, demanded to speak to a supervisor. I was then placed on hold for over 5 min (I think they expected me to hang up). Then suddenly they were very willing to send me a V6 to replace my V5 or so the agent said it was approved.
So then I had to call back three times to get the RMA number activated so I could enter my information on the RMA form. 3 rd call got it working.
Now after reading all the warnings about how Linksys doesn't do upgrades via RMA I'll have to wait and see what arrives. They also call this Cross Shipment, meaning I have 5 day's from today, including the 2 day's shipping time to get the replacement sent to them. I had to put up a Credit card to get the replacement on the way, and I have to pay shipping on the return, bastards.
And I suspect I'll now have a fight to get the V5 credit against my credit card.
Like you I've had and refered others to Linksys as the most reliable products on the market. I personally am probably responsible for more than a hundred units. However, after all this BS just to get a lemon replaced, I doubt I will ever purchase another Linksys product.

Yes PC performance degrades over time. The steps I take to keep mine running well include keeping the startup routine lean....turn off unneeded programs that start automatically with Windows, Also I routinely run CCleaner and clean out the old junk files and also run the registry cleaner, and also run Defraggler (CCleaner and Defraggler come from piriform.com). Also I refuse to run the mainstream antivirus programs, because I still believe they take too big of a bite out of performance. I now include AVG in that. I prefer to run Avast! or Avira because I believe they are much lighter. I set my browser to destroy history and all cached data when I exit. I run Malwarebytes Antimalware about every other week, too.

It seems to me that if Microsoft's platform can not fix it with the troubleshooter that the troubleshooter sucks. It does not know when errors are thrown so your developer sucks on creating software for errors that are popping up in your software?
if a error is thrown in Windows 8 it should catch it upon a thrown error in programming? This hsould be a level 1 ticket. Since when I call you support for error in your product no one wants to address problems in your software and get mea tech to resolve

I'm not even kidding, dude. We can do PayPay, I'll mail you a check, whatever you want. That is how frustrating this is, that is how badly I want it fixed, and that is how much overtime I've worked lately thanks to being shorthanded at my place of biz-nass. I'm an hombre of my word, so if you actually come up with a solution that works, the cheddar will be yours. Okay let's hit it.
It's the skipping thing. First 10-12 seconds of a song - every song - will play fine, then iTunes skips, stutters, and basically does the god **** hokey pokey and shakes it all about. It happens most notably with songs that I double-click to play, but I'm pretty much noticing it on any song now after a transition is made. I've been using iTunes for ages and this didn't happen until the upgrade to 7.3. I have poured over these forums for nearly a week, tried every solution offered (even offered one of my own that actually worked for maybe four days before the whole thing started up again) and NOTHING. To save us all some time, here's what I've tried:
- Downgrading. I'll admit I didn't do this correctly at first. I didn't remove everything according to the support guidelines, but I went down to version 6.05 and that did nothing to quell the skipping. I upgraded back up to 7.3 because hey, why not, and attempted the remaining trial fixes. I have since removed both iTunes and Quicktime, step my step according the the guidelines, and not only have I downgraded to my current running version of 7.2, I put both of the programs on my F drive (as opposed to the default C drive), my gigantic bonus internal drive where I typically keep nothing but my giganto music library. I thought putting the app on the same drive as the music might fix things. I thought wrong. Dead wrong. Dead diddly dum iddly wrong.
- Quicktime settings. My settings for Quicktime have always been in safe mode with the output size at 16 bits. So when I saw this "fix" I just rolled my eyes. I used to have that dealio back in the dizzle when iTunes would just get all static-y and skip when I'd open other programs or even just minimize it, so that fix worked for that, but it's nothing compared to this. In simpler terms, that fix is like Superman, and this skipping? The kryptonite. Actually that's probably not a great metaphor, but we've got a ways to go and this is going to get mucho boring if I don't throw some chuckles out there. Ready for fix three? Giddy up!
- Turn off cross-fade? It's never been on. I never really got the appeal of that, and also I think it resulted in some minor skipping back in the d. I also attempted similar fixes like turning off the equalizer, messing with the volume, closing last.fm, REMOVING an old album art retrieval program from back before iTunes got its **** together with album art, ANYTHING that might interfere with playback was turned off, removed, b-slapped, and sent crying home to its moms. Nada.
- Recreating my library. This was the fix I offered someone else, because it actually did the trick for a few days. After an entire night spent reimporting 73 gigs worth of music, it played fine, but I did lose a ton of album art, playcounts, etc, so you can imagine how ****** I was when this wound up not being a permanent fix. I was beyond ******. I was livid. But I was taught in the dojos of my youth to channel my anger into productivity, and instead of sculpting a lovely bonsai tree, I set out to fix this pup once and for all.
- That darn anti-virus! This was the final fix I tried, even though I wasn't using any of the culprit programs listed in the forums as causes of the skipping, and even those offering this as a solution confessed it was pretty hit or miss. But having tried everything else, having resorted to playing my music on MediaMonkey of all things, I figured I'd give it a shot. I used (reason for the past-tense forthcoming) AVG Anti-Virus, Lavasoft AdAware and something called Spyware Doctor that I think just came bundled with XP. I removed all of them. I had just done a virus scan recently to see if that's what was causing this, so I figured I'd be okay until I could redownload them after this fix wound up not working. And it didn't work, so there's that.
There may be a couple of fixes I've tried that I'm forgetting now, since I'm delirious after spending practically every night for the past week trying to fix this problem, while my girlf, Heather, sits and laughs at me while watching Clark and Michael on her MacBook. In fact, she's laughing at the $100 offer as I type this, but I assure you, if you offer a solution that works, the money is as good as yours. If you come up with a workable solution, I'll have to test and make sure it isn't temporary like the recreating my library thing, but I won't leave you hanging once I'm satisfied that it's fixed for good. I know it's unorthodox, perhaps illegal in some states, but I'm desperate here, peeps. The ball is in your court, and I beg you not to give up the rock.

I think the problem lays with Last.fm. I had the same exact problem as you. In your processes screen, end the task "lastfmhelper.exe" Last.fm still scrobbles. The tracks don't skip, although I notice there is still a bit of a lag in the first part of the song - but if you can deal with that, no skipping. I think you will have to end that task everytime you boot up your computer, or uninstall last.fm completely until they fix it; it is a bug in their software, as opposed to iTunes.
