Thread : select switchover_status from v$database

hi there,
I am not able to change my primary database switchover to standby. As before i did some r.n.d while running below command on primary db: "alter database commit to switchover to physical with session shutdown" then i checked status
"select switchover_status from v$database";
sql>SWITCHOVER_STATUS
TO PRIMARY
after that i run this command to switch again to standby db:
sql> alter database commit to switchover to standby with session shutdown;
Database altered.
but still showing same status:
SQL> select switchover_status from v$database;
SWITCHOVER_STATUS
TO PRIMARY
how do i make my primary db on switchover_status to standby .any solution would be graceful.
thanks

bingo!!
i create backup of controlfile:
sql>alter database backup controlfile to trace as '/Pgh/controlfile.sql';
and take my primary db to nomount stage run the script:
startup nomount;
sql@Pgh/controlfile.sql';
database mount;
alter database open resetlogs;
then i checked switchover_status
select switchover_status from v$database;
SWITCHOVER_STATUS
to standby

  • How to get the selection parameters from logical database into one of the t

    Hi Sap ABAP Champians,
    How to get the selection parameters from logical database into one of the tab in the tabstrip selection-screen.
    Please help me for this
    Thanks
    Basu

    Hi
    Thanks, that will work, but then I'll have to insert code into all my reports.
    I can see that "Application Server Control Console" is able to rerun a report.
    This must mean that the Report Server has access to the runtime parameters.
    But how?
    Cheers

  • Select data from different database

    hi,
    may I know how to select data from different database?
    for example,
    I've 2 databases, OracleDB and OracleAR
    Connect with OracleAR in SQL*Plus
    select * from OracleDB.TableName
    does Oracle support this kind of query?
    how can I retrieve data from other database while im connecting with
    other database?

    Hi,
    Yes, it's possible. No, your syntax won't work.
    First of all you have to define a DATABASE LINK inside the DB where you are already connected (in this case OracleAR). Read docs how to do that.
    Second thing is the query. It will look like
    SELECT * from TableName@<NameOfDatabaseLink>Greetings,
    Guido

  • Select records from one database and insert it into another database

    Hi
    I need to write a statement to select records from one database which is on machine 1 and insert these records on a table in another database which is on machine 2. Following is what I did:
    1. I created the following script on machine 2
    sqlplus remedy_intf/test@sptd @load_hrdata.sql
    2. I created the following sql statements in file called load_hrdata.sql:
    rem This script will perform the following steps
    rem 1. Delete previous HR data/table to start w/ clean import tables
    rem 2. Create database link to HR database, and
    rem 3. Create User Data import table taking info from HR
    rem 4. Drop HRP link before exiting
    SET COPYCOMMIT 100
    delete from remedy.remedy_feed;
    commit;
    COPY FROM nav/donnelley@hrp -
    INSERT INTO remedy.remedy_feed -
    (EMPLID, FIRST_NAME, MI, LAST_NAME, BUSINESS_TITLE, WORK_PHONE, -
    RRD_INTRNT_EMAIL, LOCATION, RRD_OFFICE_MAIL, RRD_BUS_UNIT_DESCR) -
    USING SELECT EMPLID, FIRST_NAME, MI, LAST_NAME, BUSINESS_TITLE, WORK_PHONE, -
    RRD_INTRNT_EMAIL, LOCATION, RRD_OFFICE_MAIL, RRD_BUS_UNIT_DESCR -
    FROM ps_rrd_intf_medium -
    where empl_status IN ('A', 'L', 'P', 'S', 'X')
    COMMIT;
    EXIT;
    However, whenever I run the statement I keep getting the following error:
    SP2-0498: missing parenthetical column list or USING keyword
    Do you have any suggestions on how I can fix this or what am I doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Ali

  • Select data from another database

    Hi,
    Is it possible to retrieve data from a table from another database?
    For instance, I have two databases db_1 and db_2
    I login to the database db_1 using
    sqlplus username/psw@db1
    and to the database db_2 using
    sqlplus username/psw@db2
    In SQL> db1 I would like to use select statement from a table in the db2. Is it possible?
    Another question:
    I have two tablespaces TP1 and TP2 in the database db1
    The TP1 is my default tablespace.
    Can I switch from TP1 to TP2 tablespace in the sqlplus?
    If not, how can I select all tables obtained in the TP2? Or how can I select data from a table in the TP2?
    Thanks

  • SELECT data from two databases

    I have two databases that I need to select data from in a
    single SELECT. Using DWs Advanced window for creating the select I
    don't see any way to select more than 1 Connection. Both databases
    have unique user and passwords but reside on the same server. Any
    idea how I can write a single SELECT to get data from both dbs. I
    assumed it would be similar to selecting data from multiple tables
    within the same db but the connection part is stumping me. Any
    ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    That's the basic technique for joining two tables in the same
    database.
    The original poster has tables in different databases that
    have
    different user accounts and passwords.
    Although it's possible to join two databases, you cannot do
    it unless
    you have one user account with the same privileges on both
    databases.

  • SELECT query from multiple databases

    Hi,
    Is it possible to run a SELECT query using multiple DBs' tables, like outer joining them. One of the DBs is Sybase.
    Thanks in advance

    A TopLink session can span multiple databases if they can be accessed through a single connection. A single select would require the database to handle the aggregation as mentioned in the other post.
    Alternatively TopLink's session broker will support making a single session present persistent types from multiple independent databases. This approach will not support a single SELECT spanning the databases though.

  • Select table from another database

    Hello
    Consider 2 oracle databases: A and B.
    How can i create a table in database A receiving records through a select statement to a table Z in database B?
    Is this possible?
    I thank in advance all your replies!

    You need to create a database link on table A which points to the correct schema on table B.
    Note that there needs to be an entry in the tnsnames.ora file (assuming you're using local naming) on server A which points to the database on Server B.
    Then you just reference the table via the database link.
    eg select * from dual@TNSB would access the dual table on server B.
    (assuming TNSB is the database link name)
    If you use v$instance rather than dual (and have appropriate privileges) you will see the servername of server b rather than server a.

  • How to get dynamic select options from logical database?

    Hi,
    in one of my extended reports (means - overwritten standard SAP functionality in Z-namespace) I'm using LDB 'DDF'. I've been requested to validate some of the dynamic selection options (for example - field HKONT at Document level) and to split the logic depending on the particular value(s).
    Tracking what is happened in the LDB program I found that this select option is added as dynamic WHERE clause to the SELECT statement - in a way:
    WHERE bukrs = p_burks AND ... AND
    (where_tab)
    Is there a way to get values of these LDB dynamic select options into my report and if yes - how?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Try to use the following fm in your report and check
      call function 'RS_REFRESH_FROM_DYNAMICAL_SEL'
        exporting
          curr_report        = sy-cprog
          mode_write_or_move = 'M'
        importing
          p_trange           = gt_dyn_trange
        exceptions
          not_found          = 1
          wrong_type         = 2
          others             = 3.
    PS please make a whereused of this fm , how it has been used in LDB's to get dynmic selection values

  • Switchover_status in standby database showing NOT ALLOWED

    Hi All,
    My oracle database version is Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit on windows platform.
    I need to perform switchover activity with dg_broker=TRUE.
    When I checked the status of DR database I found that switchover_status is NOT ALLOWED rather than SESSION ACTIVE or TO PRIMARY.I have doubt whether switchover can be done successfully or not with this configuration?

    SQL> sho parameter log_archive_config
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    log_archive_config string DG_CONFIG=(MAXPROD,EAMDR)
    SQL> spool off
    1.In this case,is switchover is possible?No
    2.If not possible then what will be the next step?If the value in the SWITCHOVER_STATUS column is SESSIONS ACTIVE, identify and terminate active user or SQL sessions that might prevent a switchover from being processed.
    If, after performing these steps, the SWITCHOVER_STATUS column still displays SESSIONS ACTIVE, you can successfully perform a switchover by appending the WITH SESSION SHUTDOWN clause to the
    ALTER DATABASE COMMIT TO SWITCHOVER TO PHYSICAL STANDBY statement.
    3.Is this will impact to our production database when switchover is not successfully perform?
    4.In DR RFS is idle,why?Can you paste here log_archive_dest_n paramete which is you are using for transport?
    Did you using DELAY attribute in log_archive_dest_n parameter?

  • Failover from standby database to primary database

    Hi,
    Can anyone suggest me, How to do " Standby DataGuard database to primary database (dataguard)".
    Kindly Give me steps.
    Thanks,
    Shweta

    Hi
    Follow these steps
    Oracle switchover operation:
    1.     Check and verify the role parameter on the v$parameters both primary and standby
    On Primary
    Log_archive_dest_1=”this is the local archive destination”
    +Log_archive_dest_2=”This is the Service [TNS ENTRY]”+
    Log_archive_dest_state_1=Enable
    Log_archive_dest_state_2=Enable
    Fal_server=”this should have the tns entry for the standby
    Fal_Client=”this should have the tns entry for the primary
    Standby_archive_dest=”This should have the Location where the archive located”
    Standby_File_Management=AUTO
    On Standby
    Log_archive_dest_1=”this is the local archive destination”
    +Log_archive_dest_2=”This is the Service [TNS ENTRY]”+
    Log_archive_dest_state_1=Enable
    Log_archive_dest_state_2=DEfer
    Fal_server=”this should have the tns entry for the primary
    Fal_Client=”this should have the tns entry for the standby
    Standby_archive_dest=”This should have the Location where the archive located”
    Standby_File_Management=AUTO
    2.     Down all the applications connects to the database
    3.     Shutdown both primary and standby databases
    4.     For RAC Keep Only one primary and One standby up and all other nodes should be down
    5.     Check the Primary database on Open mode and the Standby database on mount stage
    6.     On Primary
    SQL>select switchover_status from v$database;Sessions Active or To standby will be appearing on the result
    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to standby with session shutdown;
    SQL> shutdown Immediate;
    SQL>startup nomount;
    SQL>alter database mount standby database;
    SQL>Alter system set log_Archive_dest_state_2=defer;7.     On Standby
    SQL>select switchover_status from  v$database;it is acceptable to have Sessions Active or To Primary
    SQL>alter database commit to switchover to primary with session shutdown;
    SQL>shutdown immediate;
    SQL>Startup;
    SQL.>Alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2=enable;8.     On Primary
    start the managed recovery
    SQL>Alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;9.     Check the log shipment is working from New Primary to New Standby Using
    SQL>Alter system switch logfile; ---- On New Primary.check the alert log on both Primary and Standby for the log shipment and Media recovery.
    10.     If the switch over fail issue the following statement on standby (ORACLE 9i)
    SQL> alter database recover managed standby database finish skip standby logfile ┘
    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to primary┘
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    SQL> Startup;11.     If this don’t work please issue the below statement
    SQL> alter database activate standby database skip standby logfile;12.     If the switch over fail issue the following statement on standby (ORACLE 10g and above)
    SQL> alter database recover managed standby database finish force;
    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to primary;
    SQL> alter database open;
    SQL> shutdown Immediate;
    SQL> startup;13. Added the temp file to your temp tablespace
    If you follow the steps (10,11 & 12 ) you have to recreate the standby again. those steps are actually fail over steps. Hope this will be helpful
    Cheers

  • Select data from database tables with high performance

    hi all,
    how to select data from different database tables with high performance.
    im using for all entries instead of inner joins, even though burden on data base tables is going very high ( 90 % in se30)
    hw to increase the performance.
    kindly, reply.
    thnks

    Also Check you are not using open sql much like distict order by group by , use abap techniques on internal table to acive the same.
    also Dont use select endselect.
    if possible use up to n rows claus....
    taht will limit the data base hits.
    also dont run select in siode any loops.
    i guess these are some of the trics oyu can use to avoid frequent DATA BASE HITS AND ABVOID THE DATA BASE LAOD.

    Moderator: Pls do not lock the posting instead provide me the link, its disrespecting.

    Respect the forum rules and common sense, and you will be respected.
    "how to select data from a database table when the field is blank" is very basic, and basic questions will be locked, because they have been asked many times and you can find the answer yourself with a little effort. There is nothing disrespectful about it.

  • How to get the last SCN number from catalog database

    Hi All,
    I have a catalog database where my PROD database is registered. Evereyday at 12AM rman takes the hot backup of PROD.
    Now I want to create a auxillary database using the last RMAN backup, for this I want to restore using the SCN from the catalog views.
    Please help me to get the SCN number from the RC_ views.

    i am a bit confused,
    SELECT CURRENT_SCN FROM V$DATABASE;

    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Until SCN: ' || until_scn);

    why are they different, and why first result is lower than yours? can you explain please, thank you

    It's a classpath problem. Either you mistyped the class name, or you don't have the class in your classpath. I think Oracle's drivers come in db12.zip or db12.jar or some such. Whatever that jar or zip file is, it has to be in your classpath, but it's not.
    Or it is in your classpath, but you're in an appserver context where the classloader that the container provides for your app uses something other than the classpath variable. For instance, in tomcat, the jar file would be uder webapps/yourApplication/WEB-INF/lib I think.
