Throttled with lies

I'm the bad guy... at least according to Verizon's throttling policy for the remaining "unlimited" (haha!) data customers utilizing 3G.  And yes, it is throttling, "network optimization" doublespeak aside; a better term might be "bottom line optimization."  I understand the desire to not end up in the same situation that ATT/Cingular did, whom I left for Verizon because their connectivity became atrocious.  This action, however, is a step backward, disrecpectful of their most active users, and demonstrates a glaring lack of vision with regards to the ever-blossoming world of mobile data connectivity.  I'm technically knowledgeable and understand that 10 million users all maxing out their connections 24/7 is unsustainable with existing architecture, I get it, but that's not what's happening.  This action is nothing more than a means of forcing the remaining "unlimited" (again hah!) data users off of these grandfathered plans and onto the new tiered rate structure and ultimately is about $$$ and not equal opportunity bandwidth allocation.  And if bandwidth is at that much of a premium, then it's Verizon's fault for not appropriately scaling up to accomodate the incredible increase in data users driven by it's own push towards smartphones for everyone and the adoption of the iphone; not the fault of users that use more data than the average person.
Verizon explains, as justification for this bandwidth throttling, that they are trying to protect the 95% of users who do not exceed 2gb/month by reigning in these "abusers" who use "inordinate" amounts of data because apparently Verizon's network is so weak that a mere 5% of its user base can completely ruin the experience of the other 95%.  But wait, this does not apply to 4G customers or anyone that's on the tiered billing plan.  So, if being an "abuser" and using "inordinate" amounts of data is OK as long as Verizon is making more money, then it's really not about bandwidth consumption is it, because those same heavy users are not being throttled... as long as Verizon makes more money.  My friend has a 4G phone that NEVER gets 4G connectivity because 3G is the best we have in our rural state, he also upgraded to this phone just prior to the elimination of the "unlimited" plans.  Yet he is not affected by the throttling.  We are both just over 7gb for our current billing cycle, my phone has been throttled and is now essentially unusable for the very things that it is marketed for; I can send texts, emails, view basic website but any sort of streaming is now out of the question for the remainder of my billing cycle?  Possible the next cycle as well?  Even many websites load painfully slowly because most sites are pretty graphic intensive in this day and age.  And so I am paying for a service that the service provider is now preventing me from utilizing as intended.  My friend, at the same level of data usage on an unlimited plan, is unaffected.
Also, with regards to "network intelligence" not being "throttling" because it only, well, throttles in areas that are "congested" that's not accurate.  I live in a low population bedroom town, a large percentage of which, I assure you, are not avid smartphone streamers and many of whom have landline broadband connections to their homes.  I would often get 900kpbs upwards to 2mbps regularly when streaming and do so without interruption or pausing to buffer in most cases.  Since my "throttling" the other day I cannot break 300kbps and anything I stream pauses every 60 seconds to buffer as I watch my bandwidth oscillate between 50kbps and, at a rare maximum, 300 kbps.  This is not a congested area.  I go to work in a more heavily-populated town, still 300 kpbs max.  I take lunch and go into the city, the largest and most populated city in our state, still 300, actually popped up to 350 in what I would consider the most congested portion of our state.  Where's the "network intelligence" Verizon?...
7gb!  Wow, how can you possibly use that much data?!?  Is it really that hard to comprehend how someone could easily tear through that much data?  Utilizing the Netflix app alone, an app approved and available in the Market, this can be accomplished rather easily.  A rough average on an hour episode of streaming media is, ballpark, around what 300mb?  So, watching 7 one-hour episodes of a tv show streamed through Netflix would equate to around 2gb; you're now an "abuser" using "inordinate" amounts of data.  "Inordinate" apparently equating to watching two 1-hour tv shows/week streamed through your phone.  Given that the average American watches 5 hours of tv a day and spends even more time online, that usage estimate is actually conservative relative to the typical level of media consumption in the United States.
If Verizon wants to used a tiered billing system as everyone is now, that's their perogative, however modifying plans previously labeled as "unlimited" in order to correct for a forecasting mistake made by Verizon itself is unacceptable.  Verizon, you should have allowed these plans to expire within their existing contract dates without meddling with individual users' bandwidth allocations; they would have all eventually gone away and you would have a lot fewer **bleep**-off customers.  I repeat, I have a phone that is now essentially unusable for the majority of functions that it is marketed for because of an inentional restriction against me as a customer by Verizon... yet I am expected, of course, to continue paying for the very service they are essentially blocking me from using because, while Verizon can modify the terms of any contract they see fit, I certainly cannot.  What if your cable provider, most of which utilize streaming video through digital cable boxes now, turned off your cable access for the rest of the month or only let you watch channels 1-10 because, sir, you've been watching far too much tv and it's preventing our other customers from viewing shows... mmhmm, that wouldn't upset any tv viewers now would it?
Verizon, of course, knows that other providers do this as well and that I, of course, want to continue my media consumption, and so they have the upper hand.  I, like an increasing number of people, use my phone for everything.  I have no cable, no cable broadband, no landline phone, my phone is my connection to the world, partly because that's how I prefer it, partly because I can't afford to pay several different companies for access to the same thing.  I either fold and drop $300 on a new 4G phone and renew my contract with a tiered data plan and get financially raped and have to constantly stress about how much data I've used or I incurr a new monthly fee with, say, my cable provider to avoid having to pay out the nose to Verizon for access to the SAME content.
Rant aside, the bottom line is this: Verizon is lying.  Let me say that again, Verizon is lying about the justification for this move.  It's not about equal oppotunity bandwidth, it's about Verizon realizing they can increase their revenue stream... otherwise, wouldn't those tiered folks be getting throttled as well if they "abuse" and use "inordinate" amounts of data?  Oh no, of course not, Verizon just bills them more.  This scenario is as ridiculous as charging $20/month for text messaging, which, by the way, is also data.
Here's an idea Verizon.  Why not take some of piles of money you're making by fleecing customers with "abusive," "inordinate" fees and upgrade your network to accomodate the very scenario that you as a company have been promoting, if that is in fact the real issue at the core of this.  And maybe someone in your PR department will think really hard about demonizing your users in the future for using your product in the very manner it was intended and painting us as outside the law to the bulk of your client base.  This little to do with heavy data users and everything to do with $$$ and possibly the inability of Verizon to meet the service needs of a exponentially growing smartphone market that it helped to encourage.
I have gone from highly recommending Verizon as a service provider to other folks to now being dissapointed and bitter from my experience.  All of this, of course, occurred without any notification to me or any kind of notice either on my online account management or in my electronic bill, as they also apparently stated would occurr.  More than likely this and the new tiered billing will lead to me seeking another form of connectivity and dropping my Verizon plan options to the absolute minimum across the board or switching phone providers simply because of how insultingly this has been framed, and I suspect I'm not alone... which results in less $$$ to Verizon.  Good job, guys.

Spot on _ BULLS EYE!!  You aren't alone. I want to validate your rant.  Verizon went out of their way to sell me the same $59.99 unlimited broadband 4 yrs ago and have now been hassling me and twisting my arm with every aggravating phone call I make to complain.  I have had the throttling removed three times.  This time they said we can't remove it but change your plan and you'll be at full speed immediately.  I am sick and tired of the lying.  They all can't even tell the same story.  Just last week I was told by more than one employee that my device must be bad because they don't throttle.
Occupy Verizon would be good - How do you get these ****** to PAY - Are their any Attorneys out there - I know they originally sold THOUSANDS of those plans.  I'm ******!!!!!!
A Corporation that tells lies and different stories from its employees has to be held Accountable - Financially
Give me back my $59.99 per month times 48 months and its still not enough for the hell they have put me through.  My computer has been slowed to the point my mail center timed out and was unable to download important PDF Contracts.  HELLO!!! Verizon - Thats money out of MY Bottom line. Get it?   THX

  • CPU throttling with new PSU

    Hello
    I have a W510 with the 135W PSU. Or to be more precise: 6.75A @ 20V.
I work at two places, so I bought a generic 150W PSU with an adapter to fit the Thinkpad. The PSU is labeled 7.5A @ 20V, so it should have no problems running the laptop.
Still, upon boot I get the "This PSU is too weak for something something charging battery something" and my i7 is throttled to 1.2 GHz rather than the 3.06 it usually musters.
If I boot from battery and attach the PSU connector after Windows is up, it runs at full speed. And charges the battery just fine. So obviously, there is nothing wrong with the juice from the PSU.
Thus, I suspect that BIOS does something dumb. Can I override this somehow?
    Friendly,
    Some Dude
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Oh, I did not realize that I could see that in Power Manager. Fascinating!
    It says 90 W.
I found another thread where the central pin thing was mentioned. I am about to order a new connector tip to chop up and modify, as that is quite a bit cheaper than buying a new PSU.
Thanks to you both for the information!

  • UCS I/O Throttle with Esxi 5.1 Update 2 and UCSM 2.1 and 2.2

    Hi,
I have heard that Cisco recommends that the I/O throttle be changed to 256 when using esxi 5.1 Update 2. Does anyone have any official information on the change that Cisco recommends?

Very interested to see the answer to this, it'd be nice if Cisco had something official on this.
    I found this document:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/solutions/collateral/data-center-virtualization/unified-computing/guide-c07-730811.pdf
Its a little confusing, but it seems the defaults you may use could be 256, or 2048.

  • My experience with Verizon - Horrible - here's why

I had been a customer with Verizon Wireless since 2008.  During my time as a customer, service was just ok but I always had service at my home (home office) and at my corporate office.  Two of the most important places I needed service. That was until November of 2013 when service at my home and office was no longer consistent or available at all.  I had an Android phone so I asked my wife what her service was like in both places since she had an i-phone.  She experienced the same service problems.  My wife and I both tried to work with Verizon to resolve the issue.  Verizon's response..."I see our computer shows service in those areas so there should not be a problem."  My wife and I continued to explain to them for 2 months that yes there once was service and then like a switch there was none.  I don't care what the computer says there is NO service.  Verizon would NOT send someone out to verify service despite requesting them to do so.  After 2 months of frustration Verizon offered a solution "you can put a signal booster in your house for an additional $40 a month."  I did NOT want to pay extra money to restore service where I once had it.  This was a change in service on Verizon's end which created a hardship in me doing business so after two months we came to an agreement that we may cancel our contract and would not be charged for the remaining 4 months.  My wife and I canceled our service and went with another provider.  Following the cancellation we received a letter in the mail stating that we owed early termination fees!  I called Verizon stating that I was assured that I would NOT be charged these fees.  Verizon reassured me that was the case and that we needed to wait for the official bill before they could offer the credits.  Our bill came...I called Verizon regarding the credits...they flat out LIED and said we do not have any record showing we were going to offer you credits.  It has been a constant battle since then and they have now sent my bill to collections.  Fed up with dealing with this almost a year later and trying to repair the damage Verizon has done to my credit score I agreed to pay the bill with a "pay for delete option".  Verizon's refused.  The collection agency then sends me a letter for a settlement offer of 65% of the amount owed. Before scheduling the payment I called Verizon to ensure that if I accept this offer that they would report that the account was "paid in full".  Verizon said YES they would report the account as paid in full.  I called back and schedule the payment for 1 week out.  I DO NOT trust Verizon due to the flat out lies and deceptive way they handled my cancellation so the week gave me a chance to get the "paid in full" reporting status in writing. Once I requested this Verizon back peddled AGAIN and said they would not send the letter and when I pressed the issue they stated that the account would be reported as "settled for less then amount owed".  This is VERY different in the eyes of future lenders so canceled my scheduled payment.  Verizon CAN NOT BE TRUSTED for anything that they say. They will LIE and delete notes on your account to get things their way.  If you choose to (or have to) do business with Verizon get EVERYTHING in writing.     I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH VERIZON!  THEY ARE THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH.

I could not have said it any better VERIZON WILL LIE WITHOUT RESERVATION. THEY ALTERED RECORDS IN CONNECTION TO AN ISSUE I HAD WITH THEM, THEY LIED REPEATEDLY, I KNOW THEY HAVE FLAGGED ME AS A 'PROBLEM CUSTOMER' AND WHEN I CALL THEY ADJUST THEIR TREATMENT OF ME ACCORDINGLY. CALLS MYSTERIOUSLY DROP WHEN TALKING TO REPS, THEY MAKE ME HOLD FOR EXTENDED PERIODS HOPING I WILL HANG UP. NO OTHER COMPANY I HAVE DEALT WITH LIES AS OFTEN OR IN AS MANY WAYS AS THIS COMPANY. THEIR INSOLENCE ONLY HARDENS MY RESOLVE, IF ONLY OTHERS WERE PERSISTENT BEEDS TO CALL UT ALAS. SOMEONE SOMEWHERE NEEDS TO CALL THEM ON IT ONCE IN AWHILE.

  • A browser with download speed limit?

It sounds weird but on Linux I can't find a browser that allows to set a download speed limit.
I found an extension for Firefox but it works only on Windows.
I know the existence of download managers like d4x, wget, jdownloader, etc... but some downloads can only be done by browser.
I know trickle too but if I want to change the speed limit I have to 'restart' the command (interrupting the current download).
Then I didn't find an extension for Chromium.

I was able to implement [global] throttling with wondershaper. You will need to modprobe sch_cbq if you use the CBQ script (not sure about the HTB one). I use the CBQ version.

  • Oracle service bus: Work manager and Throttling

    Hi
Flow is PS_C--->BS_A (based on PS_A)
I created a http protocol based proxy service PS_A and a business service based on PS_A, i.e. BS_A.
Now this BS_A is deployed on four different managed servers. I have implemented failover so at a time copy of only one of the managed severs will be accessed by multiple external clients through PS_C. To say all will hit Managed server-1 copy of BS_A. If Managed server-1 is down then it will hit Managed server-2 copies of BS_A.
I have created a workmanager named "CustomWorkManager" which has MaxThreadConstraint=1. PS_A has not enabled CustomWorkManager. i.e. PS_A works under default policy.
My goal is to process only one request at one time through BS_A.
In business service, BS_A I can see work manager and throttling options.
    My question is this:
Scenario I: I make throttling enabled and set maximum concurrency=1 for BS_A
Scenario II: I apply CustomWorkManager to BS_A
Scenario III: I do both Scenario I and Scenario II
What is the difference between I, II and III?
Fundamentally, what is the difference between throttling with maxConcurrency=1 and MaxThreadConstraint of workmanager=1 for a http business service?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Swapnil Kharwadkar

    @Abhishek: Thanks for descriptive reply.
@Anuj: Thanks for links, I am having a look..
    Use case:
What is the target app/service? Is it DB, HTTP or anything else?
    Back end: Amadeus web services
    Role of DB:
    1. It will store data to attach transaction context to a request. This is to call more than one services in the backend - it is necessary for backend to understand in which context services are being invoked.
For example, if I need to make PNR related changes, I need to invoke service X and fetch transaction context from back-end. The transaction specific identifier (read session) will be received in header part. After retrieve suppose I need retrieve PNR, I will invoke service Y. When I invoke, I need to put the transaction specific header part received in response of service X and then change body as per request format of service Y (read the response header of X will be the same as request and response header of Y) which will actually make changes and commit in the backend. (So back-end will understand that service X and Y are invoked as a part of single transaction, and transaction can be identified through logs)
    3. Once my X+Y call is over and transaction is committed, the context for transaction specific part received in header to the transaction is removed from back-end. Then I can use session again for the next transaction.
    4. To re-use session I am storing it in DB and retrieving as per need for each call to Amadeus.
Problem is, it is absolute necessary for all transactions which are being processed simultaneously, to have unique session in header.
    For example,
    I do the following:
Request 1: receives session from service X, uses for service Y. After use, inserts session in DB. Now context for that session is removed from back-end.
Request 2: looks for session DB, puts in header and invokes backend. Context for Request 2 is attached to session retrieved from DB.
Request 3: looks for session DB, puts in header and invokes backend. Context for Request 3 is attached to session retrieved from DB.
As you can see if Request 2 and Request 3, pick up the same session from DB and invoke back-end, back-end services won't be able to understand which request the session belongs to, and will fail both requests. Ideally Request 2 should retrieve it from DB use for itself and Request 3 should make a call to service X at back-end to receive context. With this new context Request 3 should proceed for transaction.
Why are you using a BS to call from one Proxy to another Proxy?:
    1. To interact with DB, I use DBAdapter business services with QueryByExample/Update/Insert operation.
    2. My PS_A is proxy which orchestrates these operations. (Read: SelectandUpdateDBForSessionRetrieve, UpdateDBWhenTransactionOver functionaries) Since there are two admin and four managed servers, all copies of PS_A will try to access DB simultaneously, and concurrency will fail.
    3. Hence I made BS_A on the basis of PS_A. BS_A is deployed on all four managed servers, used Load Balancing Algorithm as "None" and gave hard-coded urls of four managed servers in sequence of MS1, MS2, MS3 and MS4.
    4. Idea is if MS1 is ok, all requests will go to BS_A of MS1 only, and if somehow if I make it single threaded *(Read from DB+mark retrieved data as "in use" so other request can not use it)*, concurrency issue will not arise. In case MS1 is down, the requests will automatically forwarded to MS2 and since that is also single threaded, concurrency issue won't arise. In short both fail-over and concurrency can be achieved with BS_A making out of PS_A.
The problem as you have correctly pointed out, is that OSB is stateless and one request has no relation with another. Somehow, I need to make every retrieve/update/insert to database as single threaded, i.e. once one is done then another should not be done at the same time. Else entire point of this pooling will fail.
Please share any thoughts you might have. Even another approach to handle this single threaded need will do.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Swapnil Kharwadkar

  • Problem with complex business logic...

    hi all,
    i have two tables 1.running_table
    2.history_table
in my tables, for recent 30 day's data will be stored in "running_table". if 30 days completed from the entered date, all the data will be moved to "history_table".this will be done by some triggers.
now, in my stored procedure, i will get start_date,end_date as a inputs.i have to retrieve data from two tables(running_table,history_table) depending on dates.
    conditions:
    1. if entered time pheriod is before 30 days....use running_table
    2. if entered time pheriod is after 30 days....use history_table.
if start_date is in latest 30 days & end_date in old to 30 days ? what to do?
how can i write condition depending on time pheriod?
    thanks in advance.....
    Edited by: user9041629 on Aug 12, 2010 3:43 AM

I would suggest you to write 3 conditions in your pl/sql block
    1. for <= 30 days
    2. for > 30 days
    3. for range with lies in both.
in 1 condition u may write a query with running table
in 2 condition u may write a query with history table
    and
in 3 condition u have to write a query with history union running table
hope it is clear to you :)

  • Can someone help me with "no format has been reg. for RTP Payload type 10"

I am trying to send audio from Mac to PC. Mac uses quicktime for java and PC uses jmf. I looked at the Jmf supported formats list and on the SDP file for mac i used payload types like :
    m=audio 2656 RTP/AVP 0
    c=IN IP4 239.60.60.60
. I also tried other formats too but I always get "no format has been registered for rtp payload type 10". on the pc side. Anyone can help me out? thanks!

Sprint's unlimited wireless service is actually ten bucks more a month than my Verizon service, according to Sprint's Web site.
And Verizon's customer support is the best in the industry.
I have never experienced a "throttling" with my Verizon account. And I have never experienced any limited bandwidth usage problem.

  • K8N Neo-FSR CPU fan at full throttle after wake up from S3 (Suspend to RAM)

    Hi,
using either Core Center or BIOS' smart cpu fan control my cpu fan throttles down to less than 2000 RPM without system load. Fine! But after wake up from S3 (Suspend to RAM) power down the cpu fan runs forever at full throttle with about >5000 RPM, making lots of noise. So far I didn't succeed neither with BIOS settings nor using Core Center to gain fan control after S3 wake up. Since Core Center apparently shows up the cpu temperature correctly with less than 40 degrees Celsius this may be a BIOS 1.4 bug.
Can someone please point me into the right direction? Yep, I did read the FAQ and already use board's search function :-)
    Falo

    addendum
did some further testing. Apparently this doesn't happen if I wait at least a couple of minutes between shutdown to S3 and wake up. In this case fan control works as expected afterwards.

  • Yahoo IP's with Low SBRS and Mail delays

    Hello,
Cisco IronPort has seen an increase in spam and other unwanted emails originating  from IP addresses registered with and belonging to Yahoo! This spam originates mainly from Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Groups email addresses. This increase in spam has been reported by our customers through end user complaints as well as an increase in spam trap reports. The result has been a drop in the reputation of up to 5% of Yahoo’s IPs from good to the neutral range (between -2 and +1).
Cisco IronPort recommends that ESA customers throttle incoming connections from IPs with a neutral reputation score once the maximum number of connections has been reached. This results in Yahoo! IPs being throttled with the comment “Too many connections this hour”.  Several customers have complained about not receiving emails from Yahoo! based not on Cisco IronPort intentionally blocking  Yahoo’s IPs, but instead providing a reputation score based on the complaints we have seen and the threat of missed spam to our customers globally.
How can I avoid throttling Yahoo mail?
Cisco IronPort Email Security Appliance can be configured to not throttle mail by creating custom mail flow policies and sender groups for Yahoo domain mail servers (.yahoo.com).
More information on how to create custom mail flow policies and sender groups can be found in Cisco IronPort Email Security Appliance - Configuration guide (The Host Access Table (HAT): Sender Groups and Mail Flow Policies): http://www.cisco.com/web/ironport/index.html
Note: Accepting mail from domains or mail servers with low Senderbase reputation may lead to increase in missed Spam and potentially cause performance issues.
What steps has Cisco taken to help with this issue?
We have been communicating with the appropriate contacts at Yahoo! regarding their outbound mail issue and we have been assured that they’re working on it. Cisco IronPort has been providing Yahoo! with reports and any information that could help Yahoo! get to the bottom of this. While Yahoo! has told us that they are aware of this and are working on it, we do not have the specific details of steps Yahoo! has taken. We will continue to work with Yahoo! to help them resolve this issue.
Cisco IronPort has been actively updating rules numerous times a day against spam received from Yahoo! This should help against some of the missed spam issue if the customers were to take steps to accept all emails from Yahoo! and run IronPort AntiSpam on them. We request that customers continue to submit spam messages to [email protected] or use one of our plugins (MS Outlook or Lotus Notes) to report these missed spam emails.
    Best Regards,
    Cisco IronPort Customer Support

I'm very interested in this as (a) we do have a small but ongoing spam issue from all of the major freemailers including Yahoo, and (b) the posting specifically names an organisation. I didn't know if this was a major taboo on the forum as in some cases it can invite all sorts of legal problems. If there are any general guidelines for posting that I've missed then please point them out.
Regards freemailers in general and the latest Yahoo issue in particular, is the problem mainly sweatshop spam or are the mails being automatically generated? Do they pass through the organisation's "official" MTA (if there is one) or are they simply emerging from some assigned IP that happens to be port 25-enabled?
I ask from the point of view of doing something via header parsing if possible, though I admit that that's hardly following the "customer hands-off" ethos of appliance ownership.
In either case thanks for the heads-up; I'm off to check my logs now.

  • How can i upgrade my BT Infinity so i no longer ge...

    Evening all,
I'm currently on (As its shown on my Bill) BT Infinity Option 2, which when i signed up for it in Oct 2012 was the 'unlimited' package and at the minute ive noticed i'm being Throttled from 4pm every day, now anyway i thought unlimited meant unlimited i.e. not being limited on what i download when and where.
Anyway.. i've found out through the powers that be, apparently a new service called BT Infinity 2 which is also unlimited, but on this service you don't get throttled. (Is this true so far??)
So i click on the upgrade my BT internet Tab, select the upgrade to BT Infinity 2 option, choose my account and it starts the search.
it comes back with, sorry the package you've selected isnt an option, please choose from the following options below Option 1 which is BT infinity 1 + Calls or option 2 which is Unlimited BT Infinity 2 + Calls....
Now first question, Why does it say the package isnt available then list the package below??
Anyway So i click on Unlimited BT infinity + Calls (Option 2) and it goes through as if i we're a new customer, and not just upgrading,?? Is this Normal,
All i want is Unlimited Infinity with no throttling!!!
    Thanks in Advance
    Gaz

    Afternoon all,
Well that wen't well, i phoned 150, got put through to Sales, a Scottish man called Craig, I told him i was on Unlimited Infinity and i want to upgrade to Totally Unlimited.. He basically said to me im on Unlimited and that you don't get throttling with unlimited.... so he told me to ring 08001114567 Which when i tried to do this it comes up with a nice voice message saying theres a major technical fault please call back later.
Now, If BT are having big problems and they are fixing it, i don't mind waiting and ringing tomorrow, but how is it the 'sales' guy said to me they dont throttle when they do!!, basically lied to me on the phone....
Is there anyone at BT who knows how i can 'upgrade' to get this throttling removed??
    Thanks in Advance

  • Deadful Customer Care - get it sorted

    hello all
Ok here goes, see timeline of events below and please bare with me:
    04 January 2015 (20:00 approx)-
I discovered a fault with my broadband connection, (home hub 4 flashing yellow indicator, no internet).
Called the helpdesk and spoke with **Edited** who ran through various tests and then concluded that the fault was with BT equipment and required an engineer.
I was informed that an engineer would be with me on 7th January between 8am and 1pm.
He did mention that he was having a problem but the booking was made and that he would call to discuss the following day.
    05 January 2015 -
No contact was recieved from BT (contrary to the conversation on 6th January)
    06 January 2015 (10:00 approx) -
Called BT to discuss my appointment, spoke to **Edited** who told me that there was no booking made for me and the next avaialble slot was the 26th January 2015, I was unhappy with this and requested to speak to a manager, They told me the manager was busy and yopu call back within 2 hours.
    06 January 2015 (14:00 approx) -
Called BT again as no manager call weas recieved, spoke to **Edited** who again reitrerated that the 26th was the best they could do and that the long delay (22 days) was due to heavy snowfall in my area, which was lieas as there is no snow in the area at all. I then requested to remain on the line to speak to a manager.
After a very long delay the Technical Team Manager**Edited** came on the line (no apology for lack of call back or the delay), she again said the 26th was all they could offer and the delay was due to a lack of engineers.
I again stated this was not acceptable when her final offer of the 16th was proposed.
    16 January 2015 -
Took a half day from work however no engineer arrived.
Spent a long time on the phone to be told that there was "engineer availability" issues.
The next proposed appointment was the 4th February, again I battled with the call center due to the long delay but the 4th February was the best they could do.
    04 February 2015 -
Took a half day from work however once again no engineer arrived.
Spent a long time on the phone to be told that there was "engineer availability" issues.
The next proposed appointment was the 19th February, once again I battled with the call center due to the long delay but the 19th February was the best they could do.
I found my entire customer experience terrible, with lies and contradictions being told from start to end.
    I have the following queries:
Why was the initial appointment of the 7th Jan not honoured?
Why on discovery of the problem by**Edited** was an alternative appointment not booked?
Why did i not recieve a call back on the 5th Jan as promised by **Edited**?
Why was I lied to on the 6th Jan reagarding the non existant "heavy snowfall"?
Why did I not get a manager callback as requested on the 7th Jan?
Why was the next appointment of the 16th Jan not honoured? Why was I not informed of the engineer availability issues on the 16th Jan?
Why was the next appointment of the 04th Feb not honoured?
Why was I not informed of the engineer availability issues on the 04th Feb?
Do you feel the time from reporting of fault to the latest appointment date is acceptable?
If a shortage of local engineers is indeed the problem then why have BT not seconded engineers in from other areas to help clear the backlog?

welcome to the forum which is a customer help customer forum - your post does not go to BT although it may be read by a forum mod
I appreciate you may have done thei when talking to helpdesk but in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Geforce 8800GT AND Geforce 7300GT in the Mac Pro?

I used the search feature: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1288408
That's the only useful thread I could find that has to do with 2 cards in the Mac Pro at the same time. So basically I'm wondering, has anyone tried this with the same cards or the same idea before? and did it work?. I'm just wondering if it's possible so I don't have to let the 7300GT gather dust in my closet. I do run Windows XP in bootcamp, not with parallels or VMware Fusion because I need to play PC games at full throttle with full system performance etc. Thanks in advance for any tips.

You can use the two graphics cards, but it's only useful if you have more than two displays. It won't give you higher speed.

  • Mis-selling of services, ofcom and poor service..

Just three of the many negative points I will be advertising about BT on any forum I possibly can.
A week of complaining and getting hung up on by "managers", along with lies and contradictory information from almost any person I have the dissatisfaction of talking to.
I shouldn't be surprised. BT were the same with my dads account and it seems the same with so many others on here.
Just today I have had Nina drop my call, then Moulisha passing me through to his manager who hung up on me as he didn't want to discuss my issues. Now I'm onto Niraj who is having "system issues" and so can't help.
At least your infinity package you sold me is as good as those 7 other individuals told me it would be... Oh yeah I forgot, after 2 days off work waiting for an engineer, your rather angry and rude back office staff call to tell me you don't actually do it in my area!
At least she kept interrupting and talking over me to stop me complaining on that occasion.. Like a true professional, even when I left my phone on my desk I could still hear her shouting at me like it was my fault you lied to me to get me to sign up.
That's ok though cos you will have my internet working by the end of this week like you promised me every time I have called.. What's that Nina??? Next Wednesday? You can't do anything as I have a open order for infinity??? The same infinity you cancelled without telling me on the 25th of November as you don't provide it in my area??? Oh well, at least you always have the option of hanging up on me!
At least you didn't charge me for sending out the router for infinity that I can't get in my area. Oh you have charged me!?? Oh good.
But that's ok as you do care at least as your going to get your magic department to call me back tomorrow (Tuesday), or tomorrow (Wednesday), or tomorrow (Thursday)??? No, tomorrow still hasn't turned up yet. Must mean a different thing in that part of the world (The North West of England if anyone was interested).
    Thumbs up guys.

  • Hub and online usage meters don't tally

After monitoring the data usage for a while we find the online data usage is approximately three times higher that what the hub reports (taking into account download and upload).
Really annoyed that it forced us to upgrade to unlimited when we use much less than 40Gb. Now it appears that our evening speed is really being throttled with a much higher latency. Wished we'd never switched back to BT.

the problem with using the hub figures is that the usage resets everytime the hub resets so unless your connection was stable and connected for a complete month you cannot compare
