Tiger, OEM issue

using gcc_select 3.3 and installing the client w/ the admin option I am UNABLE to add any databases to the network tree w/i ./oemapp console. Its all greyed out. I cannot get past this.
The only error I recieved during the install was:
"Error: Thrown when the IP address cannot be determined"
Any ideas why I cannot add a database to the tree?
Thanks,
M

'tis fixed!
I found this little gem which solved my problem (static IP vs. DHCP)

    OWB - OEM issue?
We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.1.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.1.31 (Win XP). The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.3.0). OWB is installed on Linux.
I find OEM (10.2.0.0.0 with oracle database ver 10.2.0.0.0) part of OWB program folder. As I start OEM, I creted the database connection in OEM explorer. I tried to loggin to created database connection.
    I got “ORA-12541: TNS:no listener” error.
It was working all day in OWB/Sqlplus before starting OEM. I noticed OEM changed my tnsnames.ora file in OWbhome\network\admin directory using timestamp.
I came out of OEM session. All my logins via OWB/SQLpus/SQL developer results in “ORA-12541: TNS:no listener” error.
I checked via tnsping on command window, which results in “ORA-12541: TNS:no listener” error.
I restored my tnsnames.ora from backup, all are working except OEM.
Did anyone use OEM with OWB?
Any idea, what is going on ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
over the connection goes not only the sql statements for connecting, also much auditing and logging informations goes from one machine to the other. So development and database should be as near as possible for better speed.
Perhaps working direct on the server will increase the speed?

  • Happy on Leopard, hangs on sleep with Tiger: Firmware issue?

I have an early 2005 G5 dual 2.0 that I bought new. It has 2.5GB of RAM and two drives: a 1TB and a just-recently-reinstalled original 160 GB drive.
I've updated it through the years and recently it's been running Leopard 10.5.8 on the 1TB drive.
I've just replaced it with a Mac Pro as my main machine, and wanted to set up the G5 to run Classic apps, so installed the original 160GB drive, wiped it clean with Drive Genius, and did an erase and install from my original 10.4 CD, followed by a bunch of Software Update runs to get it to 10.4.11.
Trouble is, when booted in 10.4.11, every time it sleeps, the fans go into high gear and the system hangs, so I have to press the power button to shut it down.
I cleaned off the disk and reinstalled.
    I zapped the PRAM/NVRAM.
I booted in Open Firmware and did a reset.
    I disconnected the 10.5 disk.
    I ran Apple Hardware Test.
I disconnected all cables and pressed the PMU/SMU reset button.
Had a very nervous day when reconnecting the power cord gave me a solid power LED and a non-operational power button, until I got brave and reset the PMU again with the power cord plugged in (against Apple advice, but some folks said it worked). That got me booted again.
Ran through several cycles of circle-with-bar gray screen boots, hang with loud fan boots, safe boots, etc.
None of these steps indicated anything unusual or stopped the loud fan/dark screen/hang under 10.4.11.
I'm now at the point where the machine boots fine, sleeps fine, and is generally happy as a clam when booted on my tried-and-true 10.5.8 disk, but does the loud fan/dark screen/hang when booted under 10.4.11, most consistently around sleep time, but sometimes just trying to boot.
    Other possible useful debugging info:
Right now, the only things plugged in are Ethernet, Apple Keyboard, Apple Mighty Mouse, and VGA monitor with DVI adapter.
Internal speaker no longer works, but headphone jack does.
I did try during this process to get my old Thrustmaster ADB joystick running via a Griffin iMate, but those experiments are on hold until I get the base system stable.
Most posts about similar behaviors (for example, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2444469&start=0&tstart=0) point to a hardware issue, but that doesn't make sense to me because there aren't any issues under 10.5.8.
My current thinking is that it may possibly be a firmware issue, that I have a version installed that requires 10.5.x and is not compatible with 10.4.x. System Profiler lists
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.4f1
However, I can't find much info about this version.
Even if I found a 10.4-friendly Firmware Update, I'm not sure the machine would let me install an older version.
So, does my thinking seem sound, or are there other avenues I should pursue?

No PCI cards other than stock video card.
No 3rd party kexts running. Just a fresh install of 10.4, then everything Software Update fed me to get to 10.4.11.
Safe boot does not change the behavior.
I ran several more experiments and have some more results to share.
Booting from the Tiger disk reliably caused the machine to become unresponsive when going into sleep mode, after which the fans would go to full speed after a couple of minutes. Occasionally, upon power down and power up, I'd get the gray screen with the circle/slash graphic. Powering down and powering up would then result in a successful reboot.
Booting from the Leopard disk would not cause the machine to hang when going in to sleep. However, I did notice that the machine wasn't really sleeping, either. The screen would blank, but I never heard hard disks park (the option to "put hard disks to sleep when possible" is checked in the Energy Saver System Preference), and the case fans continued spinning at low (normal) speed. Wake up took no time at all and made no sound except from the monitor. It may not be sleeping, but at least it's not crashing, either.
Perhaps there really is a hardware issue, and Leopard is handling it more gracefully than Tiger. Unfortunately, Apple Hardware Test isn't finding it, and I see nothing indicated in the logs.
It's less than ideal, but unless I find a solution, I may just put the machine in never sleep mode to keep it from crashing.

  • MX04 and Tiger OS issue

Can someone remind me about the 'bouncing DW icon in the
    dock' issue
when using MX04 with Apple Tiger OS?
i.e. DW doesn't open, icon just bounces in dock. I know
    theres a reason
and a link to the issue on the Adobe site but just cant
    remember where
it is or what the problem/solution is
    Thanks

The numbering of AppleWorks 6 versions can be confusing. AppleWorks 6.2.7 is an OS X version & is very, very, very buggy. Its OS 8/9 component is 6.2.5. The OS 8/9 component of the last version is 6.2.8.

Make sure your ORACLE_HOME point to Oracle Database Installation and in your $PATH, Oracle database installation $ORACLE_HOME/bin is in preceding position not Application Server.

  • Installation OEM issue

I install and config personal oracle 10g client at home and I am able to launch OEM at home but not at office. Do you know if I have to reconfig everything or what might be missing?

In your opening post, you said you installed the client. Now it sounds like you installed the server and created a database. If you also installed the client, that is significant --- as well as unnecessary, seeing as the server install includes the client software.
Within which I'm going to create some schema using EM web interface. But the EM is not able to connect to the database instance due to no listener.
But the listener seems there as I'm able to login to sqlplus with scott/tiger.So exactly how do you log on with sqlplus? As mentioned in another post, "sqlplus scott/tiger" is not the same as "sqlplus scott/tiger@orcl". The first uses an IPC connection and does not require a listener. The second uses an ip connection and does require a listener.
So you installed the DB product? In your first message you only said you installed the client. If you installed the db, you got the client with it and need not make a separate client installation.
Before we can proceed, you need to tell us exactly what you installed.
at a command prompt (on whatever machine is actually running the database) do a "lsnrctl status".
And do let us know some important information, like OS version, oracle software installed, including version to 4 digits

  • OEM issue with RMAN

    Hil,
    OEM made RMAN work strangely.
In OEM, after I set some configuration in the "Backup Settings", I found that "Tape Drives" filed is automatically filled with the value: "1". I tested the issue on may machines and the result was the same.
    Steps to generate the issue:
    1. Login to the Database Control EM as SYS
    2. Follow the following links:
Maintenace Tab -> Backup Settings -> Backup Set
    3. Set "Maximum Backup Piece (File) Size" to 4 GB
    4. Click on "Policy" link
    5. Mark the checkbox "Automatically Backup Controlfile ..."
    6. Set "Retain backups that are necessary for a recovery .." to 2 Days
    7. Click on "OK" button
Now the settings should be saved. Click again on "Backup Settings", you will see that "Tape Drives" field is filled with "1". By the way, NO tape is installed on the machine.

  • Tiger Install Issues on PowerMac G4 AGP (Sawtooth)

    hi everyone
i'm facing serious issues with my G4. i got that mac from ebay with install discs for 10.1, 10.2 & 10.3. Finally I got hold of a retail (black disc) version of tiger. every time i try to boot the dvd the mac keeps hanging on the gray screen wirh the apple logo.
    things i've tried:
    - use an external dvd (Asus sdrw0804P-D) -->no luck
    - remove all ram sticks except for one and tried different slots -->no luck
    - replaced the hdd -->no luck
    - checked several times the firmware version -->no luck
    - zapped the pram several times -->no luck
    - pressed the cuda switch several times -->no luck
    - copied the install disk onto the ned hdd to boot it from there (via disk utility) -->no luck
    - copied the install disko onto an external fw400 drive to boot -->no luck (probably my mac doesn't support fw boot)
unfortunately i don't have another mac to try the target mode (would that work from within windows XP?)
i've been using os 10.2 & 10.3 for quite a time now without any problems or freezes. i'm really stuck on this. i need 10.4 for some programms i want to install (e.g. itunes for my ipod 160gb)
what else could i try to get my mac to run tiger?
    hardware details:
4x 256 MB PC133 Ram (1x Kingston for apple double sided, 2x infineon single sided, 1x siemens double sided)
1x 10gb original apple hdd ata
    1x 80gb samsung spin point
1x ati pci graphics 32 mb
    1x original apple dvd-rom
    1x apple keyb & mouse
any help would be greatly apreciated
    cheers

I have a same model G4 PowerMac AGP 400MHz, and low and behold it too does not like Tiger. I've tried installing it to it's hard drive from another machine, even updated it to 10.4.11 from another machine, but then try to boot it itself, I just get the Apple logo and the spinning thing for hours. Firmware has been updated, all of that, it just doesn't like Tiger.
I don't mind Panther, which does run on this machine okay, but I wanted Tiger, especially for it's built in VNC screen sharing functions.
    Bizarre.

  • Tiger Downgrade issue?

    Hi there
after successfully down grading to Tiger from leopard everything has been running fine until today when I noticed I couldnt perform the apple-shift-3 or apple-shift-4 screen grabs? Have these been disabled somehow by the downgrade?
    thanks
    Troy

First off, is this problem happening on your iBook, or MacBook? The iBook is old enough the capacitor used for the PRAM settings may have aged enough it needs to be replaced. With MacBooks and MacBook Pros, their clock battery would not be old enough to have this be a problem. By the way, there is no such thing as a clean install. Mac OS X offers an erase and install, which you've also indicated you've done by repartitioning. This clearly indicates that unless you've installed additional software, or connected additional hardware, the problem resides squarely with the computer. Also if the software installation was done via Target Disk Mode, non-retail discs that didn't come with the Mac, or cloning from a backup copy of the operating system that itself had some corruption, this issue could happen. The only way to assure your partitioned reinstall of 10.4 does not have a problem is to:
Erase and install from the 10.4 discs which shipped with the Mac, or retail disks which are newer than the Mac. Use either the built-in DVD drive if available, or a Firewire DVD drive.
Note: MacBook Pros and MacBooks newer than October 26, 2007 can't have 10.4 installed on them reliably. Older MacBook and MacBook Pros must use the 10.4 installer disc which shipped with them. If you are missing those discs, call AppleCare for them.
All other installations may present problems in of themselves.

  • Windows 2008 and Tiger SMB Issues

I've been pulling hair out all morning over this one.
We have a new Windows 2008 server for file sharing. We are trying to connect to it via SMB on our network (with AD domain). Works great on PC, works on Leopard, does not work on Tiger.
From connect I type “smb://xxxxxxxx” after a few minutes I get an error: “could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct” which is odd because I haven’t entered any login credentials to begin with.
I’ve been pouring over Google, Microsoft KB and anything else I can come across with no luck. Things I’ve tried.
-Clearing keychain passwords for the server
-Setting the digital signing on the server to disable (most cited fix, but no go for me)
-Setting Sharing and Security model to “Classic – local users authenticate themselves”
-Setting LAN Manager authentication to “Send LM & NTLM – use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”
-Editing the smb.conf file on the mac to no security
-Created the nsmb.conf file on the mac with minauth=none.
-Used Directory access on the mac to add the mac and bind it to the domain.
-Many Many restarts of the server and clients (and running gpupdate.exe on the server)
One thing that DOES work is a trial of ADmitmac… but this is not realistic for us if we have guest users needing to access the share.
I’ve been able to use smb before with tiger and windows xp and windows 2003… but the mac is throwing a fit over the new windows 2008. Also, we can’t upgrade all of our machines to Leopard (which does work) because it will break Quark 6.5.

Any relevant looking log messages if you browse in Console?

  • Xcode 2.5 (Tiger) download issue

I've been trying to download XCode 2.5 to do some development on my Tiger iMac... it downloads but it fails the checksum ("Verification failed" when it tries to mount). Is this a known situation? What are my options?

Can you download it again? (Maybe from another network)
Does your file have the correct size in bytes? (sometimes, for unknown reasons, the download ends but without downloading the full size of the file)

  • Tiger/Router issue

I have a G5 sp 1.8 GHz with two hard drives. When installing Tiger (on drive 1) I had a problem with my router. Could not connect to the internet. Won't even connect starting on drive #2, and nothing has been altered via the install. Called my isp provider. They suggested I bypass the router, connect the modem directly to the Mac. Volla! Connection! Called Linksys, after a coupled of "techs" I can connect to the web. Restart on the #2 drive and things are fine. Back to drive 1, no connection. Back to drive 2 no connection. Back to Linksys via the phone for "tech" #3. Reconfigured everything he could think of. Got me going, on both drive 1 & 2.
What an ordeal. I can almost speak Hindu now.
But another problem presists and since I am connection illiterate I am begging for help.
Periodically I get a warning dialog box which reads:
    "IP Configuration
70.238.134.183 in use by 00:16:6f:6f:3d:f5, DHCP
    server 192.168.0.1"
I have no idea what this means. It pops up as different times with no pattern that I can determine. Beside bieng annoying is there cause for concern?
Thanks for any and all help, and sorry for being so dumb about this.

I only have one Mac and two printers on the network.
You are saying you found no resolve for this warning,
and that it isn't an area of concern other than the
    fact it is annoying?
There is a resolution for the problem, but since you say you are totally illiterate when it comes to network stuff, the cure may be more of a problem to you than the symptom.
Most times I only have one printer in use. Could I
change the IP address of that machine.
    Yes.
And if so How do I do that
There's a number of different ways to reconfigure network devices, and how it is done depends on the device.
Personally, I think using DHCP for printers can also be troublesome unless you are using AppleTalk (Appletalk doesn't care about IP addresses - it can still find the printer.)
Before anyone can tell you the easiest (or best) way to do so, we have to know the manufacture/model of the printer.
    [ip conflict at] 70.238.134.183
    Something isn't right.
On DHCP, unless you have specified otherwise, your printer IPs should be 192.168.0.x
If you have a conflict at 70.238.134.183, it is either outside of your network, or your router is misconfigured.
Off the cuff, I would say 70.238.134.183 is the IP for your ISPs modem (Are you DSL or cable?)
Go back to the Linksys web site. Support section.
Look up your router. If your ISP is one of the larger ones, you should find simple step-by-step instructions on how to configure your router and computer for that specific ISP.

  • Tiger Upgrade issue

iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   I am looking for any help anyone might be able to offer on an upgrade to Tiger from Mac OS X 10.3.9. I just upgraded to the later from 10.2.8 with no problems. However, in attempting to reach the final summit to Tiger, I received the error message "9972"--"Target volume is damaged and cannot be repaired by installer." I have tried to run Disk Utility several times but this cannot correct it. Am I left with only being able to do an Erase and Install? As a relative Mac newbie, I am a little concerned about the radical approach. I have used SuperDuper to back up the contents to an external HD before the 1st upgrade to 10.3, but am a little concerned about how to bring back all my data from that drive as part of a E&I? Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
iMac 1.25 GHz Power PC G4
    Mac OS X 10.2.8
    DIMM1/SDRAM 256MB
    DIMM0/1.04 GB
    iTunes 6.0.4(3); iPhoto 2.0.1; iDVD 3.0.1; iMovie 3.0.3
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

If you have a retail Tiger installer package you can install Tiger directly without doing an upgrade. Unfortunately, the error you are getting is a serious problem and the only satisfactory resolution is to reformat the hard drive. I suggest the following procedure:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disk. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
Once you install Tiger you can restore your personal data from your backup. This can be done by drag and drop. I would not recommend restoring from your backup using SuperDuper because it will simply overwrite the Tiger installation.

on sturtup.info is clear that trying to used /app/em/agent/core/12.1.0.3.0 instead of /app/em/agent/core/12.1.0.4.0 ....
Is there something that could indicate how try to solve it ?
Thanks in advance for your ideas.
    Bets regards.
