Time Dimension Wizard Hangs Creating Map

I'm running OWB 11.1.0.7 and trying to create a time dimension using the time dimension wizard and when I get to the progress screen it just hangs when it gets to 60% progress and the message window says it's creating the map.
There is no indication of any kind of error that might say why it's hanging, or any indication other than "creating map" that says what it's trying to do at the time. Is there anyway to dig under the covers anywhere to see what the wizard is trying to do that is causing it to hang?
Another question is how I can create the same kind of dimension manually that the wizard would have created? It appears to be creating a special kind of dimension, specifically for time but I can't see anyway to create it manually if the wizard doesn't work. I found another message that mentioned a time dimension template that the wizard uses but that post was about how to use OMBPlus to remove the time template type so it could be edited manually, not how to create one using it.
So, anyone have any suggestions for how I can track this problem down and/or create that time dimension manually? Thanks.
Regards, Bob

Are you using OWB 11.1.0.7 or greater?
We encountered the same problem from that version on. try to use an older version (11.1.0.6 client definitely works).
We will put this into metalink as it is definitely a bug.

  • Oracle 11gR2 use the time dimension wizard---the cube didn't show any information!

I created a Time Dimension with the Time dimension wizard  , a category dimension, and a rel_expense cube in OWB 。what I do is following the oracle 11g r1's turtoial
The rel_expense cube has two forigen keys, one is refrence the category dimension's dimension_key(primary key in the category dimension), and the other one  refrence the time dimension's start_day_date(bussniess key in the time dimension).
The result I get is  the rel_expense_tab had datas, but the rel_expense cube had nothing.
.I delete the category dimension , it is the same result(cube rel_expense had nothing).
But if I  only delete the  time dimension,    it is ok(both of them had datas)!!!
So I think is the time dimension's problem ,because the 11g r2's time dimension wizard didnt' generate the dimension_key for time. Is the forigen key(time dimension) i refrenced in the cube is error,so if it is, what should I do?

  • Oracle Warehouse Builder 11GR2 -no time dimension wizard?

    Hi,
I am running OWB 11GR2 on top of a 11GR2 database (OEL 5.4 64 bit).
I don't have a time dimension wizard, just a normal wizard. What I do is right-click, new dimension....but no time wizard. How can I activate it?
I have installed everything several times, but no luck...
    Can anyone help, please?

    Hi
Right Johnny. This happened when we moved to the new UI, all objects can be created using the New 'gallery' style approach, not exactly intuitive for how you remember time dimensions being created but it's still all there.

  • Time dimension wizard and leap year error?

I've created a time dimension (rolap) using the wizard. I started with 2006 for 6 years. I used a fiscal calendar, 445, fiscal year start = jan 1, and month start = monday.
The first 2 months of 2008 are ok. However, OWB ends the third month on March 31, 2008 and it should be March 30, 2008. It starts the next month on April 1, 2008 which is a Tuesday.
    I've tested with 10.2 and 11.1.
Anybody seen this or have a solution?
    Garrett

    Garrett
The start day that you specified as being Monday is in fact the week start day and not the month start day. In most cases these will both always land on the day of week you specify, but there are exceptions.
The Fiscal year is split into Quarters and the start of each Quarter is based on the date of the start of the year, so if you started the year at Jan 6th, then the 2nd quarter will start on April 6th, and the third on July 6th and so on.
In your case, an extra day is inserted in the 5th week of the first quarter so that the quarter can start at the correct date

  • Cannot recreate mapping to populate MOLAP time dimension

I am using OWB10gR2 to create a time dimension having MOLAP as storage type and two hierarchies (year and week).
I used the wizard to create a time dimension having the standard year hierarchy. The wizard does not allow to generate the time dimension with both hierarchies (why?). That's why I had to manually add the week hierarchy with the object editor in a second step. The next step would be to recreate the mapping to populate the time dimension, but I got the following error message:
"There is no sequence attached to the dimension. Please add a sequence in the attribute tab."
I tried the same thing with ROLAP as storage types: for ROLAP I can recreate the mapping.
Does anybody have a solution for that problem?
    Many thanks in advance!!

I further explored the Time dimension wizard and for standard if i select year, month and day .... the autogenerated mapping generates a validation error... Anyways i am using oracle11gr2 any ideas why this is happening ??

  • Time dimension (Using Wizard)

    Hi
i want to create Time dimension using simple wizard(not through time wizard)
i have following attributes in it
    Year( year ID,year Discription)
    Quarter(Quarter ID,Quarter Discription)
    Month ( Month ID,Month Discription)
    Week ( week ID,week Discription)
    DAY ( Day ID,Day Discription)
    Hours ( hours ID,hours Discription)
i complete time dimension with simple wizard but it create sequence and table
so what is mapping for it kindly give me guide in detail
    thnx in advance

    Hi,
you may create your custom time dimension using the simple wizard.
To fill it with values, create another time dimension with the time dimension wizard. Fill it using the generated mapping.
Then write your own mapping to fill your time dimensions with the values from the generated one.
This way is easier than to write some custom logic to fill your custom time dimension.

    Carsten.

  • Problem with Time Dimension generating

    Hello, everybody.
I have a problem with Time Dimension generating with the help of the Standard Wizard.
    1. I choose Dimensions -> New -> Using Time Wizard
    2. Set Name as "Time"
    3. On the next screen I choose ROLAP: Relational Storage
    4. On the next screen set Start year: 2003, Number of years: 3
    5. On the next screen choose all levels of the Normal Hierarchy
On the 6-th step Wizard complete 60% of job and hang up doing nothing (buttons "Cancel" and "Help" is active).

  • Multiple time dimension hierarchies ?

Hi, is it possible to easily define multiple hierarchies in a time based dimension ?
I know the time dimension wizard allows the definition of only 1 hierarchy but I need to have a time dimension that has both a calendar based and a fiscal calendar hierarchy.
It is possible to modify the dimension definition after using the wizard but I don't think the original mapping automatically generated by the wizard is updated.
    Anyone done this ?
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi,
Did any of you manage to create the extra hierarchy in the time dimension?
I also created the standard time dimension with only one fiscal hierarchy first, but later found the need to add another fiscal hierarchy that has month as the leaf level (does not include day level). However, when deploying, I get the message "ORA-00957: duplicate column name"...
(Reason for defining other hierarchy without the day level is that it seems that when using auto-solve on a compressed cube, it tries to solve from all leaf levels upward, but one cube I have is loaded at the month level of the time dimension... day level is not applicable in this specific cube. Using the standard fiscal hierarchy in this case does not work on that cube.)
    Thanks,
    Ed
PS Looking at the ddl script from the Job Details window, the duplicate columns are in the auto generated stage tables/views (for month and quarter level; not for year level(?)). How can we influence OWB to generate the correct things???
    Create table "OWB$STGTBL_D_DI_FISCAL__2B6926" (
    FISCAL_QUARTER_F_2B69262B6934 number,
    FISCAL_QUARTER_F_2B69262B6934 number);
    Create table "OWB$STGTBL_D_DI_FISCAL__2B6915" (
    FISCAL_MONTH_FI_2B69152B6926 number,
    FISCAL_MONTH_FI_2B69152B6926 number);

  • Fiscal Year Time Dimension - Month Time Span

I have a need to create a fiscal year time dimension and I created using Time Wizard in OWB. When I was developing BI Reports, I found some inconsistencies in Time dimension as it was showing figures in all the months of my first quarter of new financial year that Apr 2009 – Mar 2010. On close inspection of Time Dimension table I found that fiscal_month_time_span value varies from 35 to 28 to 29 for different months. i.e. it’s not matching with corresponding Calendar month. This means I am unable to plot data correctly using fiscal year dimension.
Maybe this is how it works in Oracle, but this does not solve my problem. Could anyone give me some solution for this ? My Fiscal year is from ‘1- Apr – 09’ to ’31-Mar-10’. In my reports I would like to see transactions for April month when I use month attribute of time dimension like it happens in Calendar time dimension.

    May be someone from
Forum: Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition can answer this .
    Please post it there.

  • Modifying the time Dimension in OWB10G R2

    Hello,
I've used the time-dimension wizard in OWB10G R2, but I am encountering some problems. Let me explain:
When you start with the wizard, it gives you the choice of a normal hierarchy based on year and/or quarter and/or month and/or day OR a week hierarchy, based on week and day. But I need a time dimension based on year, month, week and day. So I created a normal hierarchy time-dimension based on year, month and day and tried to alter it, by adding a week as an attribute (and level etc.).
So far no luck. I can't change the dimension, once it is created. Same for the other way around: create a weekbased hierarchy and ad month and year to it as attributes.
And now my question: Am I overlooking something? Or is it just a case of bad luck and do I have to build the time dimension myself by hand (not that much of a work, but still a pity of the wizard)? Or is there an other way around to fix this problem?
    Regards,
    Ingmar

    Ingmar,
I just read your post and I am trying to accomplish the same thing with the time dimension - can you help me or direct me to another post that can?
After I create the time dimension with the wizard, I go back in via the Object Editor and I see the check box on the Levels tab and I have checked the Calendar_Week and all the attributes pop up, so far so good, then I navigate next to the Hieararchies tab and I don't see that the Level for Calendar_Week has been added?
How to I get a time dimension that has a single hierarchy that roles up as follows:
    day ----> week ----> month -----> quarter ----->year
    thx

  • How to load time dimension informatica...

Hi, im new to datawarehouse... Can anybody tell me,how to load time dimension informatica...
    Thanks and Regards,
    jagadish.

Do you mean Informatica, the ETL tool? If you do then I would post your question on the Informatica website as we typically use Oracle Warehouse Builder and Analytic Workspace Manager here at Oracle.
If you want to know hoe to generate a time dimension table, then I would recommend using the Time Dimension Wizard in Warehouse Builder as this will automatically create the target dimension table and populate all the required levels with the correct data values. There is more information on the OWB OTN Home Page

  • Additional custom level on Time dimension ?

    Hi,
I´m very new to OWB, so I don't know if what I want to do is even possible at all.
I created a time dimension using the "Time Dimension Wizard", selecting all possible levels (year, quarter, month, day), but I also need to have one extra level: semester. You see, we need that level for our reports.
I tried to open the mappings that were generated automatically but Oh, boy! does that look complicated!!! Some operators call time functions but when looking them up, they're in packages that come wrapped, so basically I have no clue as to how the data is being generated by Oracle.
Do you know of any way to accomplish this? Basically have a time dimension with the levels:
    Year -> Semester -> Quarter -> Month -> Day
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Rgds,
    --Oswaldo Santos
    [osantos]

    Hi JP,
    Thanks for the tip.
I created a new "time" dimension manually. I basically made a copy of the attributes and levels of a normal time dimension, plus the new fields for "semester". I also defined the corresponding fields for "END DATE" and "TIME SPAN".
Now, I can populate this dimension, based on a script that someone else posted in this forum. I'm not sure, though, that Oracle OLAP will recognize this as a "time" dimension, will it? I mean, OWB adds some extra fields for a time dimension created with the wizard (like "level type"). Will this affect the performance or behavior of my cubes? Or, can I say that this is as real a time dimension as one created with the wizard in OWB?
Again, thanks a lot for your support.
    Regards,
    --osvaldo santos.

  • Error While Loding Time Dimension

    Hello
I have a requirement in which i need to load the data into Time dimension so i mapped the data from Time dimension which Oracle Creates
While deploying i am getting an Error which says there is an error in Time Dimension Package which is created by oracle and
Can anyone tell me where should i go to rectify the error
    Thanks
    Sriks

    Did the mapping validate ok?
If validation was ok, locate the package on the DB (same name as mapping) and compile it, this should give you more information on what is causing the error e.g. table does not exist etc.

  • OWB 10.2 - How are you handling time dimensions?

    Hi all,
I am struggling with what should be a simple thing to do. I want to create a time dimension and then have many "roles" or aliases for the time dimensioin WITH UNIQUE COLUMN NAMES across all of the roles.
When the time dimensions are deployed to Discoverer, I want every one of them to have unique names and the column names within the time dimension have a unique prefix so that report users know which date column is from which table or dimension.
Here's what I've done and failed at:
    1. Use the time dimension wizard - I can create any number of dimensions and corresponding tables BUT all of them have the same column names and I would have to manually change each and every one of them to get unique names (which may not even be possible with the wizard). Also, because I require ISO weeks, I can't really use the wizard at all.
    2. Manually create a time dimension (that supports ISO weeks) and create multiple "roles" for it:
Thanks to a bug, I cannot exceed 4 roles without OWB crashing. Even with those 4 roles, when deployed to Discoverer, every attribute within the item folders has the same name. When I drag them to a report, there is no way to tell one from another. Is there some way I could do this without having to manually rename hundreds of columns?
    3. I wrote an elaborate SQLPlus script to copy and prefix dimensions and tables from a base dimension and table. When I then import the Dimension to OWB, the metadata for business identifier and surrogate identifier is not there and any cubes using those dimensions do not work with these attributes missing. I can't find a way to cleanly reverse engineer these into OWB.
I have a cube with 12 dates - each of which should be a foreign key to a date dimension.
How can I have all of these be uniquely named with uniquely named columns?
How can I make it easy for my reporting users to select dates onto their reports?
I hope I am missing an obvious solution, because so far, I cannot see where Oracle Warehouse Builder supports such a basic data warehousing concept.

Well, since I'm the only one obsessed with time dimensions I guess, here is my ugly workaround:
    1. I create a base time dimension in OWB which I named 'ATLAS_TIME_DIM'
    2. I run the OMB script below which clones the dimension and table and renames the columns and attributes with a user supplied suffix. The end result is I get a full copy of the time dimension metadata with uniquely named columns.
You then have to deploy the objects, and with SQLPlus, ensure that the table gets its data copied from your original table. Hope it helps someone until we have better Time dimension support from OWB.
    OMBCONNECT repos/password@SERVERNAME:1521:sidname
    # Prompt for new Dimension name and prefix

    gets stdin newDim

  • OBI 10g merge 2 time dimensions on the same table/graph in analysis

    Hi,
My problem is: I have 2 different analyses (working fine) (using OBI 10g), they both use a different time dimension:
    time_dim_1 | fact1
    time_dim_2 | fact2
I want to merge them to have something like the following:
    time_dim | fact1 | fact2
What I managed to get so far is something like this:
    time_dim1 | time_dim2 | fact1 | fact2 (with, if we suppose there are 12 rows in time_dim1 and time_dim2, 12*12 = 144 rows instead of just 12)
Here is some more explanations about how I set my repository:
My fact table "issues" is made of the following columns:
    issue_id, issue_type, issue_create_date, issue_end_date
I also have a table "calendar" with year, quarter, month and full_gregorian_date.
In the physical layer I created 2 aliases for the "calendar" table to join with the fact table using "issue_create_date" and "issue_end_date".
In the business model I created the 2 related time dimensions.
Everything is working fine so far, I was able to get 2 different analyses :
    - time dimension (joined with "issue_CREATE_date") | count of issues (with aggregation rule "count" on issue_id)
to see how many new issues are CREATED through time (are there more issues created or less)
    - time dimension (joined with "issue_END_date") | count of issues (with aggregation rule "count" on issue_id)
to see how many new issues are ENDED through time (when are more issues ended)
What I want is a third analysis like this:
    - time dimension | count of created issues | count for ended issues
    Thanks for your help.
