Time stretch audio file to match tempo of track

Hi everyone, I am a new user of Logic express, and have found the info on this site extremely helpful, in conjunction with SFlogicninja's tutorials on youtube.
However, after watching a recent tutorial on Time stretching audio, i am now completely confused. Similar to the tutorial, i am trying to fit an audio region(an acapella track) to the tempo of the project. I have beat mapped the region to establish a tempo, but would like to experiment with slowing down or speeding up the track as a whole. As the acapella was created outside of Logic, i am bouncing the acapella track in order to be able to 'follow tempo'(as shown in the inspector). I have disabled the 'normalize' checkbox and bounced, but the bounced track still does not have the 'follow tempo' option in the inspector.
Any ideas as to why my bounced files cannot follow tempo. I can do it with audio that i create in Logic, but if i import any files, i was under the impression that by bouncing it within Logic, i could still obtain the same results?
I'm running out of hair to pull out!

Then I'll have to give it a try.
Hi
Seems to work OK here

Did I understand correctly that just by ""renaming"" Logic 9.1.6 inside the application folder it will keep it functioning in case I wanna revert to it later??
Yep (but you will probably still need one called "Logic Pro" to get Software Update to see it)
I have mine setup to quickly switch from 32bit to 64 bit (2 copies with different names) and also previous versions.... works fine

  • Burn Audio CD and Time Stretching audio - software on the iMac?

I have a new iMac 24 running OSX 10.4.9 and had two questions:
    1) Is there software on the iMac for buring an Audio CD? Created a song and I am trying to figure this one out.
    2) Is Garageband able to time-stretch a song? I need to edit some performance songs that need to end at a specific time. I use Sonar on my PC to do this but wondered if Garageband or another utility on my iMac could handle this.
    Thanks!

    1) iTunes will do that (not GB). Just create a playlist and click "Burn Audio CD". (That's the default setting.)
    2) GarageBand can do that, but you'll have to play around a lot to achieve it. I'd recommend an audio editor like Audacity or SoundStudio - there you can change the tempo of a song (without affecting the pitch), and it will tell you immediately how long the result will be.

  • How to keep one-time-only audio files out of iTunes?

If someone sends me an audio file that I want to play just once ... or if I record a voice memo on my iPhone ... these audio files wind up copied into my iTunes folder and listed in iTunes. I'd rather they weren't.
Is there some way I can just play an audio file, or record a voice memo, and not have it copied into the iTunes folder and displayed in iTunes? If so, it would save me all the manual deleting every time one of these things shows up.

Thanks, that works, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. Rather than have to search for the file in Finder and then hit the space-bar, I'd like to be able to simply double-click on an audio file, let it play in iTunes, but not be copied to the iTunes folder and remain in the iTunes browser until I delete it.
Also, I need to find a way to keep voice memos from residing in iTunes. I use them a lot, and they just clutter it up.
    Thanks much.

  • Time Stretch Audio in FCP?

I've got a sound I'd like to time stretch on a simple project. I'd rather not have to do anything in STP since this is the only sound I need it for--is there a way to stretch in FCP?

    Hello Mr. Wolsky,
I have read many of your extremely well informed posts on this site and greatly respect your opinion. I am wondering, however, if you are perhaps mistaken in stating that one cannot pitch shift in FCP.
I invite you to go to the Apple Sound Effects Plugins folder and take a look at "AUPitch". I have used it often for making Foley sound effects that I either can't be bothered to search out - for instance a huge metal clanging door I pitch shifted up a few octaves and it became a briefcase lock springing open.
I think people just don't look in that folder because it looks kinda boring.
Here is an extract from an article on Ken Stone about the Apple audio filters.
    Hope this helps.
    Harry.
    AUPitch
+Adjusts the pitch of your audio, obviously. There are a LOT of controls though, and I have to admit that I don't have a clue what a Glb Trigger Thresh or a Loud Aggr K is. Effect blend blends the pitch-shifted audio with the original and is sometimes necessary to make voices sound natural. It is worth mentioning that I've gotten perfectly acceptable results by adjusting the first two parameters and not bothering with any of the others. I'd imagine that most people wouldn't have to adjust more than these.+
+I tried a Google search on some of these parameters but they only turned up forum threads where people were asking what on Earth they meant and no-one was able to solve their problem. If anyone does know, I'd be interested to hear from them.+
+This can be useful for making a male actor's voice more masculine (yes, I have had to do this!).+

  • How do I identify which source audio file is mapped to which track in a merged clip?

    Hi there,
I'm new to the merge functionality.
I went ahead and merged my video/audio for a short film, all of the clips have on-camera sound, and up to 3 seperate mics.
Now I find myself spending loads of time trying to match *by ear* which channel has the mic I want to use across various takes. The track assignment seem to vary. How does Premiere decide of 3 audio files which ones goes on which track?
Also, is there a way to see which audio track contains which source wav file?
    Cheers

    @drive70 – for this table you'll need a grid of  15 x 11 cells (or at least 13 x 11 cells).
    Best start with 15 columns.
    Distribute them evenly horizontally.
Now do the merge where needed.
E.g. for cell 2 in column 1 of your layout in the screengrab, use 3 grid cells of row 2.
For the next cell use 4 grid cells, etc.pp.
    Here an illustration:
The upper one is the initial GRID, 15 x 11 cells PLUS (and this is very important!) a 12th row, you will NOT touch ever during the merge process, or you'll lose flexibility!
The bottom table is the one I started to merge cells like you want…

  • Upgraded to 7.3.1 and audio files are corrupted -- missing vocal tracks

Just upgraded a work computer to itunes 7.3.1 and my music files are now playing without vocal tracks and very poor audio quality.
it's a cheapo work computer, HP with a celeron processor.
    Any suggestions?

Same problem here. upgrade seemed to go OK, but audio quality in library songs is crap.
Demo tunes from itunes store sound great, so it seems my library is corrupted.

  • Firefox is causing my imac screen to go blank (crash) and I have to restart. Most of the time its random, but recently it did it everytime I finished listening to an audio file online. Is there a solution for this?

Firefox is causing my imac screen to go blank & I have to restart. It's been happening randomly for weeks now. I haven't been able to tie an action that causes it. Firefox is open while I work in other adobe software. Recently it has done it every time the audio file finished that I'm listening to online and that makes me think it's tied to Firefox. Is there something I can do to fix this? For now, I am going to quit firefox while I work and see if that doesn't improve my situation for now.

Does it still happen if you disable all plugins?
Did it start happening after a Firefox update or a plugin update?

  • Follow Tempo and Transpose On an Audio File

There seems to be no rhyme or reason on when an audio file can Follow Tempo and/or Transpose. Why would a bounced file not be able to follow, but a file that is recorded in the project be able to? In a similar quandary, back in the days of L7, I could very easily convert a file into an Apple Loop and it would stay in the arrange page, but now function with the benefits of being an Apple Loop.
Unless I am mistaken (a frequent occurrence) I have to go into the Apple Loops Utility, do the work there, save it somewhere and then load it into my sequence. Is there a way more like the old days? Or some other shortcut to quickly convert an audio file to an Apple Loop without those other steps?
    Thanks

    Hi Dan
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/usermanual/index.html#chapter=30%26se ction=1%26tasks=true
I agree that using that loop once converted isn't so obvious, until I stumbled upon "my loops" in the loop browser, where you'll see whatever it is you made. Hope that helps.

  • How do I get time stamped Wav files created in L7 to lock to time code?

    Hello everyone,
I did a search about time stamping audio files and was VERY happy to discover the "broadcast wave" format timestamps audio files! So I'm running tests, but cant seem to get logic to actually place the audio file according to the time stamp!
Method: I'm currently scoring a film, and have each cue as separate logic files. To sync Logic's timecode and the TC window burn, I set in the "sync" song settings that bar 1 play at the start of the cue (no offset). For example, If I want to start writing a cue at 1:06:27:05, I just tell logic that bar 1 starts at 1:06:27:05 and start writing. Both logics TC & The window burn TC match perfectly. When I bounce, I choose my bars and bounce as a "wave," which creates a file with time code stamped. I verify this by looking at the file in the audio window, which shows a clock icon, as well as the specific smpte time code if you select the file before importing into the audio bin.
From here, how do I get logic to automatically place the audio files according to their time code? I've tried "import audio" directly into the arrange page as well as dragging the file over from the audio bin and neither work. I've also tried then "cutting" these and "paste at original position" hoping it would read the time code, but instead just pastes it where it was originally imported, not according to the time code.
So I'm stumped! What am I doing wrong?
thanks in advance for your help!

Highlight the regions and then from the audio menu select "move regions to original record positions"

  • Time stretch in Logic 7 pro not working !

    Seasons greetings
im having trouble with time stretching wave files within logics audio editor. I select time and pitch machine and try to make my changes - i can see the processing happening eg yellow box top left saying 'samples processed' & numbers going down as file processes but the file does'nt change in pitch or time as instructed.
i can however perform simple gain changes to the file within the same window etc.
    any thoughts?
P.S i have enabled permissions on the file etc and have checked the audio window for the new file but it does'nt appear there.
really stuck with this one and iam currently working on a project which needs time stretching
    help would be much appreciated

Sounds like it may be a temp file issue, even though TM acts funny and fixes itself. Re: temp files, you can try creating a backup of the file ( using Logic ), set your undo locations, etc to song dir and monitor the temps as they go - you aren't using a case sensitive volume, are you?

  • Any way to export just an audio file?

    Hi All
Is there any way to copy part of a larger audio file, paste it in another track (or open it in the file editor) process it in some way and then export just that file? Been reading manual and books, but this one has me stumped. Only see tracks and busses for export.
    Thanks
    John

If anyone is interested, and it seems not, a helpful person another list answered my question: copy snippet from one file onto another track; solo new track; select just snippet; save. Finally I can add time-based effects to parts of a larger audio file!

  • Does anyone know how to separate a movie track from an audio track on the new Mavericks Garage band. It used to be very easy on the iLife 11 version. If anyone could respond ASAP I'd be grateful. I need to make an audio file from a video.

I urgently need to make some audio tracks from videos using the new 2013 GarageBand. In iLife11 Garageband, this was very easy. However, I cannot see how to do it in the new one. The alternative might be to revert to the iLife11 version, so does anyone know how to do this. It's extremely urgent since I need to produce these for a court custody hearing which will take place at 0800 GMT UK time on 31st October 2013. Please help.
    Thank you.

When you drag a movie from the Media Browser to the Time lIne in GarageBand, you will see a pop-up "Extracting Audio".
The Movie and the audio file will appear in separate tracks. You can copy the audio region from the sound track to a different track to keep it safe and then hide the Movie track.

  • Where is the start of the audio file/recording?

I'm emailing mixdowns to a studio where they will lay the files to movie timecodes that I have specified in a cue sheet. I'm a bit worried that the timecodes are incorrect. The possible issue concerns the start of the audio files.
I recorded the tracks down to a stereo file, a region, that appears to start in the arrange at the correct point. But when you record, Logic includes some recording before the start of the region, before the Anchor, correct? And my question is this: when the files are opened in ProTools, does Protools see the Anchor, see the start of the region and ignore the bit before the region starts, or not?
It's crucial, because if it doesn't all my in-points will be out but over a second (by the amount of time before the region start that somehow seems to exist in the audio file.

    Hi
If I understand the problem correctly?

This can depend on how you did the "record down to a stereo file".
If you routed tracks to bus channels, then recorded the bus to another track, Logic will include the count-in in the audio file. As you say, the region in the Arrange will be correctly "trimmed".
One solution would be to convert these bounced regions to new audio files (Audio Menu), another to use Bounce Region (or track) in Place.
Alternatively, use a manually placed "2 pop" 2 seconds before the start of each cue.

  • Exporting All Audio Files - Having Some Problems. . .

    Hi,
Im trying to export all my audio and audio intrument files as audio files so that i can pass them over to someone for a remix. Im having a couple of problems:
    1. Automation does not bounce with the tracks
    2. The tracks that run though busses does not bounce
    3. Some of the exported files appear as clipping when we look at the waveform. The levels in logic appear as normal but the waveform is full, both when we view the region on the arrange and in the sample editor.
Has anyone got any advice on exporting all tracks as audio files or any advice on what this problem could be?
    Thanks, Ben

Plug-in Delay Compensation. It's in the audio preferences, General tab.
If i want to have automation, then i have to bounce each track individually?
Yes. As John stated, the export feature bounces the file at Unity gain, and ignores automation. Generally speaking, this is the preferred method for handing off files to a mix engineer. But there are times when the automation is part of the sound you want. In these instances, you'll need to bounce those files, not export them. But certainly automation isn't part of every track?
I would suggest soloing each Aux track, or audio/innstrument track that needs to be bounced WITH automation, and then bounce offline. Bouncing offline will speed up the process of having to do these tracks one at a time.
When you're done with the bounced tracks, delete them from your arrange page (but DON'T hit SAVE). Then, use the function "Export ALL tracks as audio files", and all your remaining tracks will export at one time.
