Timeline control

Hello.
I have been having an issue with Flash buttons and
actionsript. I am using Flash MX 2004... I have a file with 4 or
more scenes. There are stop(); actions to make sure that the user
has a choice and can interact with the content of the file. Within
each scene are buttons to help the user navigate to each additional
scene he or she selects.
Unfortunately, the current actionscript that I have applied
to the buttons returns incorrectly or works once and then changes
where it is supposed to go. I have checked to make sure that there
aren't any stray actions in the frames and that the actions for the
Flash buttons are only applied to the buttons themselves (objects).
I am using the following ActionScript to control the
navigation between frames or scenes. ---> example
on (release){
gotoAndStop("Scene 2" , 'frame 1');
I have tried gotoAndPlay() as well, but again, either it
works or it sifts through all of the scenes without any rhyme or
reason. Anyone know the correct way to point to other scenes or
frames in Flash that are reliable. This used to work for me in the
past.
Any suggestions would mean a lot to me.
Thanks,
Keith

Hello.
I tried
_root.gotoAndPlay(); and had the same results as
gotoAndPlay();
Is there anything else I should/could try
Thanks,
Keith

  • Timeline control issues in firefox

    My flash animation is not loading correctly in Firfox, the
    ActionScript I'm using to control the timeline with FlashVars is
    not working. I'm am a beginer at this and I don't know the problem.
    It is working fine in IE after enabling the ActiveX, as well as in
    Safari.
    I am creating basicaly a graph that loads values from
    FlashVars of which values will be set by database entries using php
    or JavaScript (not my portion of the project). Odly enough I have
    movie clip symbols in the animation which are working fine. I have
    flashvars loading into the movie than I declare new variables
    directed within the respective symbols that in effect control the
    timeline. The declarations are in the first frame of the main
    timeline and look a little like this:
    FirstSymbol.FirstVariable = FlashVar;
    SecondSymbol.SecondVariable = OtherFlashVar;
    and so on. Then within the symbols I have timeline controls
    to play the movie at a particular frame according to the variable
    values, they look something like this:
    if (FirstVariable<=0) {
    gotoAndPlay(2);
    } else if (FirstVariable>0 & FirstVariable<=1) {
    gotoAndStop(3);
    } else if (FirstVariable>1 & FirstVariable<=2) {
    gotoAndStop(4);
    This is all working fine. But the same principal is not
    working on the main timeline. I even tried re-declaring a new
    variable with the value equaling the imported FlashVar, but it
    didn't make a differenence. There is one diference with the bellow
    code which is that it is all in a "if, else if" statement. In the
    main timeline I have two variables that will control the timeline.
    One is to bring the timeline to a certain point (this is not
    working), the other is to limit how far the movie will play
    according to the value it is givin. So I have the "if, else if"
    statement in the begining to make sure it does not go anyware if
    the limiting variable is equal to zero. The code I'm using looks
    something like this:
    stop();
    if (LimitingFlashVar<=0)
    gotoAndStop(1);
    } else if (LimitingFlashVar>0)
    if (StartingFlashVar<=0) {
    gotoAndPlay(2);
    } else if (StartingFlashVar>0 &
    StartingFlashVar<=1) {
    gotoAndPlay(105);
    } else if (StartingFlashVar>1 &
    StartingFlashVar<=2) {
    gotoAndPlay(209);
    } else if (StartingFlashVar>2 &
    StartingFlashVar<=3) {
    gotoAndPlay(313);
    Instead of going to and playing the appropriate frames the
    movie just starts playing from the first frame and only stops at
    the next ActionScript which tells it to stop. Regardless, it
    niether stops at the first frame, nore does it jump to the
    appropriate frame. I don't know if this is an ActionScript problem,
    as it behaves the same way if the ActiveX is not enabled in IE, but
    once it id enabled it works fine in IE, and as I said, Safari.
    So what's the deal with Firefox? Is there some Script that
    can counter this issue and make it work. I've seen other posts
    which seam to address similar issues, and they tell me to "find a
    block of code X and insert Y after it", they say:
    "If you're having problems getting the Control Flash behavior
    to work in Firefox, find this line of code:
    var obj=MM_findObj(objStr);
    and add this code on the line after it:
    if (obj && obj[1]) obj=obj[1]; ..."
    I was unable to try this because I'm new at this and I don't
    know where that code is to be found or edited. Or is it something
    else? Please help. Sorry this is such a long post, but I would
    really appreciate some guidence from anyone who can help.

    I saw that in my earlier searches (before I posted).
    I'm not working with multiple profiles.
    from my home directory ~/.mozilla/firefox/profiles.ini
    [General]
    StartWithLastProfile=1
    [Profile0]
    Name=default
    IsRelative=1
    Path=jhn3pg5a.default
    Default=1
    Only 1 profile defined and the default flag is set.
    Should I be looking somewhere else as to where it's getting it's information from?

  • [AS2 CS3/4] Embed external FLV into an MC using AS2 with timeline control

    Hi, Is there anyway to skip the process of manually embedding
    FLVs into SWF files? I want to load FLVs just as I would an
    external SWF.
    I've searched all over and all i can find is how to load FLVs
    into a FLVPlayer component with stop, play and controls to skip in
    time intervals.
    What I need is the ability to load an external FLV and be
    able to control it as if it were in a MC on the timeline, not as a
    streaming video.
    There are SO many questions out there about the FLVPlayer its
    really polluted any and all search results i've tried.
    Shedding some light on this for me would be greately
    appreciated!!!

    For anyone looking for an actual solution to this issue. If
    you're exporting movies out of After Effects, you can export as a
    SWF.
    The only reason I didn't know about this solution is that its
    not included in the render que options, so just select your comp,
    go to File > Export and select the setting for exporting as a
    SWF.
    Thank you kglad for the info

  • PluralEyes and Timeline Controls in PR Sequence Not Working

    I'm running PluralEyes 3.3.3 (12674) and PR 7.2.2 (33). I have three cameras (XF305 and two 5d Mark III's) in a sequence. The XF305 has the good audio and PE syncs the clips without any errors. The PE exported sequence in PR's controls like selecting a clip, solo a track or any other functions behave very strangely and do other things, i.e select one clip and another clip highlights, select the solo button and two clips get selected and are highlighted, etc. The timeline plays correctly, but it's not usable or editable. I have a new ticket with Red Giant, but thought I'd check here as well.
    Anyone else had this issue?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    This is a bug introduced in the 7.2.2 release of PR. Adobe is aware of the issue and Red Giant posted the following work around:

    how to controlling my timeline by mouse wheel (Up/Down)
    Re: controlling the timeline with mouse scrolling
    this decussion not work for me in edge animate 2014
    how can i ?

    Although that specific function is not there, but you can easily create such a function like this:
         function pauseForTime(sym, t)
           var currTime = sym.getPosition();
           sym.stop();
           sym.play(currTime + t);

  • Button on main timeline control movieclip

    Hello,
    I have a stop on my main timeline. At the stop I have a movieclip play. In the movieclip I will have a video play. After the video plays I have a button for the user to continue play until the end of the movieclip. Once the movieclip is done I want to resume back to a specific frame in my main timeline.
    I can't figure out how to make this work. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

    Ned,
    Thanks for the reply and the help.
    I actually got everything to work the way I need it to. I simply had my button in the movieclip continue play then at the end of the last frame, applied a little voodoo and I was all smiles after I tested my Movie. Here's what I did...
    x_btn in movieclip (not on main timeline) -
         x_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,mouseDownHandler10);
         function mouseDownHandler10(event:MouseEvent):void {
                  gotoAndPlay(41);
    last frame in movie clip -
         MovieClip(root).gotoAndStop(130);

  • Variables for Timeline Control

    I am building a somewhat sophisticated slide menu. I have input a wait(); command using setInterval in the first frame of my actions panel. My wait() function works perfectly.
    I have also set a few variables to start out being false. Once a particular button is clicked, it sets the variable to true and sends the playhead to a particular spot within the movie. Actionscript then performs a command to that says if that variable has been set to "true" gotoAndPlay "this", otherwise gotoAndPlay "this-instead".
    The problem I am having is that when I click on one of the buttons, it is somehow setting all the variables to true and sending the playhead to places I don't want it to go.
    Here is the code I have placed in my first frame:
    button1 == false;
    button2 == false;
    button3 == false;
    button4 == false;
    //Make movie wait for ten second interval before resuming play
    function wait() {
    stop();
    var myInterval = setInterval(function () {
    play();
    clearInterval(myInterval);
    }, 10*1000); // stop for 10 seconds
    cube2.onRelease = function(){
    (button2 == true);
    gotoAndPlay("slide1out");
    cube3.onRelease = function(){
        (button3 == true);
        gotoAndPlay("slide1out");
    cube4.onRelease=function(){
        (button4 == true);
        gotoAndPlay("slide1out");
    Then, when a user clicks on a button, i.e. cube2, cube3, or cube4, the playhead should go to "slide1out". When it gets to that frame I have code that tells the playhead where to go from there. That code is as follows:
    stop();
    if(button2 = true){
        gotoAndPlay("slide2");
    if(button3 = true){
        gotoAndPlay("slide3");
    if(button4 = true){
        gotoAndPlay("slide4");
    else{
        gotoAndPlay("slide2");
    For some reason, regardless of which button is actually pressed, (cube2, cube3, or cube4, all of the variables are set to "true" and the playhead goes to whichever frame it wants to at that point.
    Any advise?? Thanks in advance.

    You appear to have your usage of == vs = backwards.
    = is to assign something
        button4 = true;  // assigning a value of true to button4
    == is to compare for equality
        if(button4 == true){   OR    if(button4){   // testing for equality
    As shown in the OR example, if you are testing a boolean value, you only need to evaluate the variable since the conditional is only interested in the results of the expression inside the parentheses.

  • Anyone experiencing timeline issues? No drop down in three way cc saturation

    Hi not quite sure when, probably with in the last week or so I've noticed that a project i started a while ago has become buggy.  The timeline needle doesnt scrub, different sequences show up sparraticcaly, saturation doesn't drop down in three way cc, I change the work space then it works for a second but goes back to the way it was.  It's almost like a memory issue (but my memory is fine), I checked my gpu (gtx 670 4gb) worked great about a week ago. Friday I had adobe on phone for almost 2 hours and couldn't figure it out. So I'm wondering if anyone else is having this experience.

    I'm editing MTS files from the fs700 s-logII, the support tech said that should have no bearing.   I'm at a loss here, my work and project is suffering big time.  I don't what to do.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Mark,
    I too have this issue, and this time, I cannot find a work around. The dropdown arrows do not appear to function on any effect, and the timeline controls do not allow you to move the playhead, although dragging the mouse around moves the playhead in the clip playback window.
    My attempts yesterday to trouble shoot involved the following:
    Holding SHIFT while launching Premiere for a "safe mode" style launch - no fix
    Manually deleteing the Adobe Premiere Pro configs and settings in c:\users\[name]\Adobe\Premiere Pro
    Uninstall\reinstall without deleting preferences (option during uninstall).
    Uninstall\reinstall WITH deleting preferences
    I'm completely stumped and unfortunatly this bug has already killed two deadlines for me. ANyone else having this issue, as I cannot narrow it down any further.
    Set-up
    Win7 x64
    16GB RAM
    256GB SSD, 2TB Media drives x 2
    Geforce 660
    Premiere Pro CC 7.1 (latest version)
    Cineform\GoPro Studio Pro (latest version) - attempted cineform files AND h264 files
    Please advise, as I see no otehr solution besides a reformat but the issue seems limited to Premiere.
    Thanks for any suggestions

  • Changing the length of still images in the Timeline

    Since a still image is just one frame, the manual says that I should change the import value to 00:00:00:01.  Is there a way to control (change) the lengh of the still once it is in the Timeline?  Thanks.

    To change the duration on the timeline, control-click on the clip in the timeline and from the drop down menu choose "Duration". You can set the duration you want in the window that opens.
    I am not sure what manual you are reading, but the import duration is entirely up to you. If you think you are going to be using the stills for approx. 20 seconds, set the import duration to that (go to the menu Final Cut Studio > User Preferences and on the Editing Pane set the Still Freeze Duration to the time you want.
    The effect of this change will take place on the next files you import, and will not change existing imports.

  • Can Edge be used to control svg animation

    Hi there,
    I am looking for a way to control animated svgs. For example, if I have an svg that has an animated walk cycle, I want to be able to tell it to play, stop, or got to a specific point in the animation. It looked to me like Edge Animate cannot offer this level of control. The timeline control features seem to only be able to control css properties. Is this correct? Also, if so, does Adobe offer any other solution for controlling svgs. I am using Flash to create the svg files.
    Thank you

    I think EA process svg vectors like bitmap, because it uses less memory .. if you move a svg the svg must be 'repainted' each time. Its very visible with you use svg in EA animations and see the result on a tablet. But, perhaps you can see here http://www.edgedocks.com/edgecommons#anchor_edgecommons_17

  • How to create a simple spot the difference game

    Hi everyone. I'm new to the forums and relatively new to flash, so bear with me
    I'm looking to do a very simple spot the difference game using flash CS3 and actionscript 2 for a school project.
    As it stands, I have 2 images on separate layers on a timeline in the same frame, which has been paused using the 'stop' command. I am looking to have around 4 differences that, when clicked, will be recorded at the bottom of the screen.
    The problem is, I am unable to find a way to get the differences recorded at the bottom in the order the user finds them, where each one is entered when the user clicks it, leaving gaps for those that haven't been found.
    Being only a basic user, I am only familiar with scenes and basic timeline controls, and i'm hoping there's a relatively simple way of achieving this. However I am perfectly comfortable with using more complex actionscript, having done some programming before.
    Thanks in advance,
    Laurence

    Thanks so much for all your help
    Just one last thing about the 'if' script you gave me, what do i replace 'somemovieclip' with if I've already definied the movie clips I want to be monitored? Also, do I put that script on the frame? If not, where? It just doesn't work properly at the moment (skips straight to the completion frame even though the movie clips are hidden at the start) and i'm not sure about those things ^
    Sorry to be of more trouble

  • How do I make a Mouse Trace line (puzzle type) to move forward in a Flash site

    I'm wondering how I would go about making a Mouse Trace, on a line that's preset but my choosing to let people enter into my Flash and/or progress throughout it. Basically, I have a picture of say, the number 5, I want to be able to have people use the mouse cursor to trace the 5 from one end to the next, and once completed the sites move forward. Though, I will be using my company logo which is a bit more advanced than a single number or letter form. If no one is sure what I'm talking about I've added a picture to demonstrate what I'm trying to do.
    Another idea I have if this one can't be accomplished, is a slide bar.
    Basically, it would look like a timeline control in say, VLC, and I would have the user drag a button from one side to the next to unlock and move forward.
    Though that may seem a bit more simple that my main idea, I would also like to be able to get really advanced with this second function and make a series of slide bars, say, 3, and they have to be slid in a certain manner, like slide bar 1,3,2 then it unlocks and moves forward.
    Any and ALL thoughts and ideas are welcome.
    -Splendid Angst

    if you can assume your shapes are traced when a user starts at one point, drags the mouse to your end-point and does NOT go outside the shape boundary, you can use a bitmapdata hittest and loop to check the mouse stays inside your shape and you can check that they start and end within a determined distance of the start and end.
