Tint Vs. Screen

In InDesign, is tint the same as screen in Illustrator when trying to screen a PMS color? If not, what is the best way to screen a PMS color in InDesign?
Thanks

I'm not sure where you're seeing the word "screen" in the Illustrator interface. It's called "tint," just like in InDesign.
From the Illustrator CS4 Help file:
"Change the tint of a color.
"1. Select a global process color or spot color in the Swatches panel, or select an object to which youve applied a global process color or spot color.
"2. In the Color panel, drag the T slider or enter a value in the text box to modify the colors intensity. The tint range is from 0% to 100%; the lower the number, the lighter the tint will be."

Had a strange thing happen today a client sent me a file (pdf) when I opened it i could not see the tinted areas in the document ie. a 20% tint of 100% cyan on my Mac.  however when i opened the same document on my PC you could see them clearly.
When I opened this in Photoshop and changed the contrast and light settings on my mac these aeas become evident????  Im confused?  why am I not seeing this tint on the mac screen?  I even tried callibrating my screen to try and enhance but it still does not make a Difference

I got the same problem, Hotmail works chaoticly with Firefox, but still works well with IE...
The problem occures since yesterday (July the 19th).
I'll try later with my brothers' accounts and keep you updated.

  • Bluish tint on screen when Photoshop CS6 running

    Hi!
I just bought a MacBook Pro three weeks ago. I'm running Mountain Lion. Also, I have my copy of Adobe Photoshop CS6.
Something very unusual is happening. I'm a Graphic Designer and currently doing an Interior Design major. I calibrated my monitor perfectly. But now, ever since I installed CS6, every time I open Photoshop, a bluish tint sets on the screen, affecting every program running (browsers, for example) and it's very annoying (not to mention it disrupts any color calibration I made to my monitor). The only solution to this problem is closing Photoshop (the problem persists even if I minimize Photoshop to use another program).
I tried opening Illustrator and it works fine. Only with Photoshop this is happening.
I searched on Apple discussion boards for similar cases and found nothing.
What's interesting, I took screenshots to send them to a friend and the screenshots don't seem to be affected by this phenomenon.
Have I gone crazy or someone here has an idea on this?
    Thank you!

As I said in my post on the Apple board, my bluish tint problem when switching graphics cards eventually just went away - no idea why. And I tried recalibrating when I had the blue tint screen but do no avail.
I can open Photoshop and use it with my Intel integrated card sometimes - PS itself doesn't seem to make the switch automatically. But when I open Bridge (which I use almost always) the discrete graphics card kicks in. My temporary solution was to use gfxCardStatus on discrete all of the time. And after a while, when I began switching to integrated while on battery, my problem vanished.
But if you've a new MBP (mine's a late 2011 yet still under warranty until 2015) I'd take it back to the Apple Store and have them switch it out for another machine. The problem doesn't seem to crop up often (else there would be many more complaints) and it seems to be only on 2011 and 2012 machines. I don't think it's an Adobe problem at all as it happened to me when any app that uses discrete graphics would kick in (including Google Chrome).
I didn't send in a bug report to Apple because I thought that the problem was only with my machine. Yours is only the fourth time I've heard of the dreaded blue tint occurring. Take your machine back to the Apple Store and show them the problem. Maybe they will have a better fix than just using gfxCardStatus.

  • Blue Tint to Screen

I just had the LCD screen replaced by a certified Apple Dealer...now that I'm home and using it, it seems to have a blue tint to the screen which it did not have before. I have tried to make a few adjustments but nothing seems to work. Might I have a defective screen, are there other adjustments I can make to it or is this normal?

Has anything else been changed, like maybe software? And how deep of a tint is it? Maybe there is something on the screen. Try wiping it with a wet cloth. I'm sure if it is the computer doing this, you can go into the settings to change it. I'm not a professional Mac user, as I've only had one for about 2 weeks, but I'm getting the hang of switching from PC to Mac. On PC's, I'm not a professional, but I am much more advanced than the average user. If you need anything else just ask.

  • Green Tint to Screen

I have been using my Apple Studio Display 17" for several years with my 12" PowerBook G4 without a problem. As of today, the screen has a green tint. The desktop displays correctly, but is green. I tried it with my MacBook, and the color was the same. When I ran Profile First Aid, it found 3 bad profiles. It was not able to fix any of the profiles. I am running Leopard 10.5.1.
Does anyone have any ideas about how this may be fixable?
    Thanks -

  • Lite bluish tint to screen

    Hi -
Just got the new Imac dual core a few weeks ago and woke it out of sleep mode and noticed a slight flicker happened, and now I feel like there is a lite bluish tint to all the whites now (for example looking at the Google homepage), almost as if a light blue thin film has been placed over the monitor screen.
I reset all the monitor calibrations in System Preferences but nothing seemed to change.
It's not interfering with any work but is driving me crazy, like an itch I can't scratch.
Also, don't know if its related but I notice a light constant flicker with the monitor goes into sub-sleep mode and the screen dims for a bit.
Anyone else had this problem or heard anything like it? Not sure if its worth taking in to Apple store...
    thanks for any input

I notice it only when I view the monitor from an angle. I figured I'm just going to live with it because you really can't use the computer while viewing the monitor from an angle.
A very reasonable approach; I suspect you enjoy using your computer.
I never understood how important work could be done while viewing grey bars across one's screen looking for minute colour variations. When my screen blanker was displaying my photos with the Ken Burns effect, I looked hard to see the colour variation in a given portion of the photo as the photo moved at various angles across the screen - couldn't swear I could see a problem on the monitor I'm using now. If I stare hard enough at alternating light and dark grey bars on the screen, I might even see the Shroud of Turin on the screen eventually. On this monitor or any monitor.
Okay, I'll be serious for a moment...
I am not denying there are some with very evident and serious colour problems of course. But for the vast majority, considering the price of the entire 27" iMac is less than half the price of a professional-grade colour Eizo monitor... e.g. $4,400 for a 30" monitor with 97% Adobe RGB colour-space and only 290 cd/m², I don't think every monitor will be perfectly uniform. Eizo verifies uniformity over 25 points on the display. I don't know what Apple does of course.

I have noticed several people saying they can tolerate a little colour variation, but the flickering / tearing / blackouts are not acceptable. I agree with that and also expect those problems will be resolved in our first year of ownership so everyone will be covered by their warranty.

You have posted in the G5 forum, but yes, there have been reports of color problems with the new intel, usually a yellowish tint near the bottom of the screen. In any case, call Apple and discuss it with them, and make sure you get Apple Care before the end of your first year of ownership!

  • Blue tint of screen on my iPhone 3GS

When the phone is cooler than room temperature - then the screen has a clear blue tint.
It goes after the heating in your hand or pocket.

My iPhone is doing the same. It has not been water damaged and it is just 2 years old.
It started going blue then back to normal when switched off and on but it is now permanently blue. Still works fine but looks rubbish!
I have looked at several sites and this seems a common problem. The age seems to be 18 months old onwards.
I agree that this quality of product should not fail especially as it is only the LCD. Pity Apple don't seem to think it is a hardware problem!
Looks like I will have to have a go at repairing it myself. Not sure what the cost is in the UK, but I guess it will be over £100.

  • Itouch has green tint to screen and colors are off like a convergence in TV

My brother showed me his Itouch and it has a green tint to it similar to a magnet to the old CRT computer monitors. How can I fix this I have tried updating and restoring the Itouch.

  • 32GB Iphone 5C Yellowish Tint on Screen?

Just go a 32GB Iphone 5C over the weekend and noticed there's a very subtle yellow to the white color.  I know the 5S and 5C uses the same screen so I compared my phone to my buddy's and girlfriend's.  It turns out my Iphone does look slightly on the yellowish side.
I took it into the Apple store and after my session with the tech, they replaced by Iphone.  I happily walked out of the store thinking its solved and as my phone completed the restore process, I noticed it being the same.  Is this a common issue for the 32GB Iphone 5Cs??
    Anybody else noticing this??

The screen sounds defective. There should be no color distortion along the edge. I would insist that they replace it.

  • Nano 4 with yellow tint screen at top

Have iPod nano 4...has a yellow tint to screen toward top..have brightness turned up which makes it a bit better.
    How do I fix this??

The warning triangle is indicating possible poor printing on that particular image.
Most smaller images(i.e. book size) need 300 DPI for sharp images void of aliasing.
The warning triangle is indicating that you have zoomed and cropped this image past the point of ~300 DPI and the final output my not be as sharp as it could be and you may see aliasing.
Scale the image back down, i.e. bring some more pixels back until the triangle disappears... or close to it...

  • Yellow tinted display

Is anyone else still experiencing a yellow tinted display screen after "restoring" to 5A347?
I'm wondering if this problem is isolated to my phone, and it could be exchanged for a new one.

I just exchanged my 3g Black 16 gig iPhone due to a yellowish screen. My new replacement came with the (5A437) version. It is still a bit yellow but now the contrast is off making the text blurry and gray. I have another 3g white 16 gig with the (5A435) version which has no problems. The color is very rich and has deep blacks. I hope the is a way to correct this in the future. Upgrading the version does nothing. This is my 4th replacement phone and I am sick of making trips out to the Apple Store every week.

  • Is there a way to further dim the screen?

Sometimes I want to use my MacBook Pro at night while I still have my night vision, and the screen ends up beeing extreemly bright even at the lowest brightness setting. I was wondering if there is any third party program that will dim the screen substantially to gain the missing levels of brightness that the brightness control does not have. I know that a program called Starry Night that I have used on a PC had a feture that would tint the screen red and dim it to protect night vision if it was beeing used while actively stargazing.
    Thanks,

You might be able to use the black-on-white feature in Universal Access, but it still has an exceptionally bright backlight.

  • N8 purple tint issue

    Hi friends
recently i observed purple tint on my n8 I've taken to Nokia care and shown my friends n8 along with mine for showing them the difference
thEY realised it and taken my mobile to replace led after two days when i taken from them now it is showing black tint
i don't know whether they replaced my display or tuned it
    what should i do?
    wamsy

If a Nokia N8 (or Nokia C7) is determined by a Nokia Care point to have purple tint, the screen is replaced.
Perhaps you could explain what you mean by "black tint"? Have you discussed your concerns with the NCP that carried out the work on your behalf?

  • LED TV white screen but still displays picture

Ok model number is 50L5200U. I have owned it for only 7 months without any issue . One day I walk back into my room (TV was working perfect 5 minutes earlier) and the entire screen was white. I could still see the picture but no matter what I tried doing, it was like someone turned up the brightness and contrast all the way up. A few other people have had this issue with different brands of TV's and they described it as "washed out, white photo negative, white film/tint over screen". It is like this in every input and TV menu. Factory reset does nothing either. At first when it happened the screen was completely covered but recently out of nowhere the vertical right side of screen went to normal but left stays white. Before I keep blabbering on, YES its still covered under Toshiba warranty but when the tech came out he assumed it was the main board (which did nothing) so he said it was the display panel for sure and would take 10-15 days to ship. My repair order status has been at "parts ordered" for over 45 days now. I am thankful I MIGHT get it fixed since it's still under warranty but Im tired of waiting for the parts to be delivered so I figured id try to see if anyone else on here has had the same issue. Sorry for the novel of a post.
Also, the software version on the TV shows newer than the one Toshiba says I should have. Not sure if this affects anything but every detail counts I guess.
