Tiny problem placing graphics

Hi,
Anybody know how to make
like this?
Have tried a two-column table setup - eventually abandoned it due to the mess.
Here's the test.indd: http://tinyurl.com/3qk6fjl
Is it possible to fit the graphics' frame to make things as nice and clean as possible?
Thanks!

I can't tell for sure, but I presume you've added the graphic as an inline object? Was there a reason for doing it that way rather than as an independent placed object or using a table?
Have you tried just grabbing the inline frame and dragging it downward?

  • Problems placing graphic into table cell. It makes the iPad locks up when previewing that page.

    I have 3 table cells that need a jpeg graphic placed into them.
    I can paste a grahic into a table cell, but when i try to preview that page on the iPad, ibook shuts down. I must be placing the graphic wrong or formats are wrong, like object wrap or "inline" "floating" or "anchored". the graphic shows up in the fill once I copy and paste into the cell, but it doesnt show up when I look at the file info in the inspector. Also, once I preview the iBook author project on my iPad, that page will shut down the iBook app.

    Well KT.....I tried that. But it still didnt work. I have 2 pages that have tables. The first page is just a full page with text only with a gradient colored screen in the table column heads. The 2nd page has the graphic illustration in the 3 table cells. Both pages shut down when opened to full screen view. But when i remove the graphic, there is no problem with a shut down. I know its got to be something you have to do but is unwritten in any manual.

  • Problem placing buttons on top of a background image

    My knowledge of Java isn't the greatest and I am currently having problems placing buttons on top of a background image within a JApplet (this is also my first encounter with Applets).
    I'm using a Card Layout in order to display a series of different screens upon request.
    The first card is used as a Splash Screen which is displayed for 5 seconds before changing to the Main Menu card.
    When the Main Menu card is called the background image is not shown but the button is.
    While the Applet is running no errors are shown in the console.

    1) When posting here, please use fewer comments. The comments that you have don't help folks who know Java read and understand your program and in fact hinder this ability, which makes it less likely that someone will in fact read your code and help you -- something you definitely don't want to have happen! Instead, strive to make your variable and method names as logical and self-commenting as possible, and use comments judiciously and a bit more sparingly.
    2) Try to use more methods and even classes to "divide and conquer".
    3) To create a panel with a background image that can hold buttons and such, you should create an object that overrides JPanel and has a paintComponent override method within it that draws your image using the graphics object's drawImage(...) method
    For instance:
    an image jpanel:
    import java.awt.Dimension;
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    import java.awt.image.BufferedImage;
    import java.io.File;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.net.URISyntaxException;
    import java.net.URL;
    import javax.imageio.ImageIO;
    import javax.swing.JButton;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    public class BackgroundImage
        // **** this will have to be changed for your program:
        private static final String IMAGE_PATH = "../../m02/a/images/Forest.jpg";
        private BufferedImage myImage = null;
        private JPanel imagePanel = new JPanel()
            @Override
            protected void paintComponent(Graphics g)
            {   // *** here is where I draw my image
                super.paintComponent(g);  // **** don't forget this!
                if (myImage != null)
                    g.drawImage(myImage, 0, 0, this);
        public BackgroundImage()
            imagePanel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(600, 450));
            imagePanel.add(new JButton("Foobars Rule!"));
            try
                myImage = createImage(IMAGE_PATH);
            catch (IOException e)
                e.printStackTrace();
            catch (URISyntaxException e)
                e.printStackTrace();
        private BufferedImage createImage(String path) throws IOException,
                URISyntaxException
            URL imageURL = getClass().getResource(path);
            if (imageURL != null)
                return ImageIO.read(new File(imageURL.toURI()));
            else
                return null;
        public JPanel getImagePanel()
            return imagePanel;

  • Transparency of placed graphics

    Everything was working beautifully and now has gone horribly wrong. I'm sure it's something simple - I just cannot figure out what!
    b Configuration:
    I am using CS3 (all updates current) on Win Vista. I have been using for nearly a year on this sys.
    b Problem:
    I'll try to describe as best I can but I'm sure my terminology won't always be correct.
    I have InDesign files (brochures) created anywhere from nearly a year ago to a few weeks ago. The linked by placing images looked just as expected until last week or so.
    1. My drop shadows, created in InD, printed with boxes around them. My blending space is Normal.
    2. Some of my linked by placing graphics have a white box around one of the graphic's layers.
    b **For example:
    I placed a map that I created in Illustrator. In Illustrator, I created a pathed layer on the map showing a park. I saved as an AI file and PDF file. When I open the map in Illustrator or Acrobat, the map looks perfect. When I place either the AI or PDF in my InD brochure, the map looks fine - except there is a white rectangle around the park. On screen and, worse, in print!**
    My blend settings are normal. My display performance is high quality. My transparency blend space is doc CMYK.
    This has happened in multiple InD documents. This has happened with multiple graphic files. The graphic files have ranged from a simple, single layer shape PhotoShop files to multi-layer vector Illustrator files. The graphic files appear as desired in their native program or Acrobat.
    I have searched help files and knowlegebase files - but perhaps I'm just not looking in the right section - or typing in the correct magic phrase. I desperately need help so I can turn out some brochures (and maybe keep my sanity)!
    b All ideas welcome.

    Oh my goodness! Bob, thank you! The overprint didn't fix the park in the map - but converting all the Illustrator color to process did! Lesson learned.

  • Indesign CS5 crash during startup - problem with Graphics.rpln

    I work in an architectural company and already several of our computers have experienced this very rare and unusual behaviour. During start up of Indesign (not clicking on any file but just launching Indesign) it crashes with the following error:
    "Adobe Indesign CS5 has stopped working"
    We use Windows 7 64bit, so the first step I did - I went into Application Log which says, so appears to be a problem with Graphics.rpln.

    I have tried everything I could think of - removed and reinstalled Adobe CS5, manually removed Adobe folders under %Appdata%\Local and %Appdata%\Remote folders (why can't Adobe delete those things during uninstallation is always a total mystery), changed video adapter drivers, cleaned Temp folders, everything I knew...
    None of the other apps like Photoshop or Illustrator CS5 malfunction - only Indesign. What is going on?
    Can it conflict with other software we use? We have Bentley Microstation, 3D Max, Office 2010, Kaspersky Antivirus and LOGMEIN installed on this computer...Any clues, guys?

    Looks to me like you've never installed any of the patches. Last patch for CS5 was 7.0.4, so I'd start with that and see if ti helps.

  • Problem placing Jpeg images

    Hi Group,
    I'm having a problem placing Jpeg images in DW CS3. Some come
    in and display
    themselves just fine. Others come in as what appears to be
    the file name
    displayed as a link, blue text and underlined. Previewed in a

    I click the link the message is:
    The image
    "file:///C:/Users/Bob/Documents/CUT/CSL%20Web/My%20Assets/Sandy-Kirk_Web.jpg"
    cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
    I've looked at the properties of these different images and
    dont have a clue
    what the problem is.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Bob

    Look at the line you pasted into your reply and note that
    it's a link
    pointing to your hard drive. Of course that will never work
    on the web.
    Such broken links are often the result of an improperly
    defined local site.
    What happens if you remove that image and insert it again,
    then save the
    page? Is the link still broken?

  • Unwanted lightening effect around placed graphic

    I originally posted this in the InDesign forum but that may have been the wrong way to approach it.
    I have an Illustrator vector graphic placed in InDesign, it's over a dark background.
    Placed by itself the graphic looks fine, exports to PDF fine and prints fine.
    However, there is a drop shadow effect added to the frame in InDesign (using the regular select tool), after which the placed graphic still looks fine.
    There is, unfortunately, an invisible lightening effect added to the graphic which only manifests in the printed PDF.
    This lightening effect is not visible in the InDesign file and is not visible in the PDF on screen (even when I check the separations), it is only visible on the printout of the PDF.
    Since it is not visible in the PDF, here is a simulation of the lightening effect:
    http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/8025/windoweffect.jpg
    Anyone experienced anything like this?

    It could be anything, but probably due to flattening issues on PDF export.
    This is your screen shot, background removed, the two colored rectangles added in ID, added text for "The Gathering," the PS file added and the drop shadow effect applied to the PSD file from within ID. Screen shot is from the PDF.
    Take care, Mike

    I have a tiny problem that is driving me mad. When I am playing an album in iTunes using cover flow view (with the playlist beneath the artwork picture) the  picture is exactly above the album title. All is symmetrical. When I switch to full screen display, the artwork moves a couple of inches to the left and the display is therefore asymmetrical. Why and how do I correct it? It would drive you mad to.
    Thanks for any help,

    I was having the same problem, but tried the "Top Button + Home Button" reset and that did work for me. My unofficial guess is that perhaps RAM caches get filled through daily use of various apps leaving no memory for cover flow. Resetting the phone on the phone itself seems to reset that RAM. I can't say it's a cure-all, but it solved my issue. Hope this helps.

    I am sending a single-page poster in Illustrator to a commercial printer. There are several placed graphics and I want to choose the correct file-type to keep my Illustrator file nice and small.

    Printers like PDFs, but you should consult with the print vendor before you save the file in any particular format.  Each vendor is different and have an established workflow.  They may not accept JPGs.  If the poster prints offset, you will need to supply the appropriate resolution per their request or what they require. If the poster is large format or grand format, then they will or should know what resolution is appropriate.  However, large format inkjet only requires 144-150ppi at 100% final size.  Try to get in the habit of consulting with the print vendor early on so you end up supplying what is needed.

    Thanks for you reply.
    But actually I don't want to show the \ (backslashes) to the user in my text box.
    Ok let me elaborate this problem little more.
    I want to show my text box as it is in normal editors e.g. In Matlab editor. There is a text box and on left side the gray bar shows the line numbers corresponding to the text. Further more i want that the user should be able to click on any line number to mark specific line as breakpoint (red circle or any graphical indication for mark).

              cd public_html
              java weblogic.jspc -prefix compiled_jsp ram/jsp/ram1.jsp
              I'm not sure if -prefix is the exact option - something like that - maybe package_prefix.
              As always, things work better/easier when you leave things at the default value
              (jsp_servlet).

    Hello Antonio;
    After many, many test I discovered that the problem, at least in my case it is caused by the new ACR 4.5. Please read the Thread that I post under Camera Raw. I include the link below.
    I also open two Bug Reports about this, but as usual Adobe (and other Software Companies) will never take responsability for this, until one day they release a new version with "enhancements".
