Tip on "bogus" frm-42100

I've had this happen to me a couple times. As soon as a form
starts if you have an on error trigger that does display_error, you
get frm-42100. So it appears like a bogus error, as if the on-error trigger
were fired when there was no error. If you try to avoid displaying the
error_code 42100 that doesn't work either. In my case I found that
what actually happened was there was an error in the when-new-forms-instance
trigger. This occurred because some code in there tried to set an
item that was query only before enter-query mode. I think that the error code
is apparently lost before the on-error trigger fires. Or something. Anyway
I thought I'd mention it that if someone was plagued by this check out the
form level triggers.
Personally I am really having problems with things like this. As another example:
"FRM-30113: Block must have non-query-only database item. Cause:  A block that allows updating and inserting must have at least one item derived from the database. Action:  Create a derived item in the block."
What on earth does that mean? What is a "derived item"? I had huge problems
with this error and the actual cause was in the block the dml data target type
was set (by default by forms). Apparently that isn't acceptable with a query only block. What I'm wondering is if there is a third party
tool that makes forms development easier?

Ok well I thought logged meant like "logged" as in we "logged an error". silly me :-) Oracle could certainly save itself and the customers a lot of trouble by changing some of this legacy confusing terminology: "logged" for database, "derived" for database IMHO.
And further display error doesn't admit to putting out frm-42100:
"Displays the Display Error screen if there is a logged error. When the operator presses a function key while viewing the Display Error screen, Oracle Forms redisplays the form. If there is no error to display when you call this built-in, Oracle Forms ignores the call and does not display the DISPLAY ERROR screen. " Nothing about frm-42100
in there and more importantly it doesn't say that it only displays database errors
which is what I think people are saying is the case. Consequently how would someone know that?
According to the on-error trigger doc:
"Use the ERROR_CODE , ERROR_TEXT , ERROR_TYPE , DBMS_ERROR_TEXT , or DBMS_ERROR_CODE Built-in function in an On-Error trigger to identify a specific error condition. "
So people are saying display error only displays dbms_errors? So that an on-error
trigger, which catches both error_code errors and dbms_error code errors, would have to also display on it's own the error_* errors but could use display_error to display the dbms_errors? Is that the plan? (The reason for using display error is some terribly vague
error messages that go to the screen otherwise that don't even indicate what table is involved, much less what record. Because of that one needs to display the insert/update statement to have any clue what is failing.)
Regarding " your FRM-30113 error (Thank you for including all the text!!!)"
As I said, the cause was not the lack of a database item in the block. The
cause was not having the block property DML DATA Target Type set to table.
These dml properties have been giving me a lot of grief. And to find that out
I had to login to metalink and do a search. Oh so painful! ow! ow! :-)
But another case I found where the dml data target type can get you is
a join in a relation join causing:. "FRM-30415: Relation's detail block is a control block. Cause: A master-detail relation specifies a detail block that's a control block. Action: Specify a detail block that's a database block. "
The vagueness of that advice is the problem. The docs need to be more specific regarding where forms is getting it's ideas regarding this now that these other properties
exist. So my advice is if a person is getting some weird complaint about something
being a control block that isn't a control block check the dml data target type.
(And last but not least why cant you have a master block that is a control block?
It seems perfectly reasonable to me :-)

  • Identifying most recently failed SQL statement

    Hi,
    We are using Forms 6i
Is there anyway to identify what the most recently failed SQL statement was?
We occasionally have Unhandled Exceptions for which we would like to identify the cause of.
To help do this quickly is there anyway to get Forms to report the SQL statement that failed.
I am sure I saw a demo many years ago where someone simply used Forms to report on the failure rather than writing custom exception code to identify the problem(May have had something to do with the Help button)
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your prompt reply.
    I am encountering a "FRM-40735 Unhandled Exception"
When I press Shft+Ctrl+E(Display Error) I simply get a FRM-42100( No errors encountered recently)
This seems to contradict the FRM-40735 error.
Currently my fmrweb.res does not map anything to the Shift+F1 key.
What kind of function do I need to map it to?

  • LV 8.6.1 reports Bogus Error

    LV 8.6.1f1
    My VI has an error.
I click on the (broken) RUN button to find the error.
In addition to the error I expect, I find a bogus report (sometimes more than one).
The bogus error is always about an "undefined type", except it's bogus because the type IS defined (notice the wire to the CLUSTER CONTAINING MOUSE indicator is NOT broken).
The bogus error is always about a refnum control or indicator.
If I fix the real error (enum conflict) the bogus error does not show up.
The enum has nothing to do with the indicator mentioned.
    Weird.

Could you post an example VI that demonstrate the error
Wow, it turns out to be remarkably easy to demonstrate.
    Attached is a VI.
Below is a picture of it.
    The rule seems to be
    IF
       a CONTROL/INDICATOR is a REFERENCE to a CLUSTER
    AND
some other error exists on the VI
    THEN
complain about HIDDEN GIZMO has no type
    ELSE
       don't complain.
Just delete the bad wire and BOTH errors go away.

We have many more forms in the application. Those are working fine.

I also use a tip when I encounter this problem that consist on making a search/replace pl/sql : search the string "*;*" and replace it by the same "*;*" .
That make to whole forms to be recompile for sure.
    And it works for me.

    Hi
Can anyone advise my next steps to take, I accidentally opened a bogus email *.zip file attachment from 'Amazon" It unzipped an put two files in my downloads folder one appeared to be a *.exe file. They were deleted immediately along with the email.
Now I am terrified that there is something lurking on my system...trojan/ keylogger/ virus..
I am no expert so can anyone give me help!
My mac is 8 months old running OSX 10.8 with latest updates.
    Thanks Mick

Thank you both, you have put my mind at rest.
Normally I am red hot at intercepting bogus emails, not today it would appear!
I actually was in the process of deleting it and double clicked the file by complete accident, and in a flash it had opened up and put the files in the folder, I spent the rest of the afternoon panicing and reading all forums blogs etc..
Actually Thomas I found your blog and took some good tips from it, one of them was to switch java off immediately.

I would like to know which fields must be filled in setup that will influence the field PERIOD within the GL ...If you do not want to apply the patch and you do think it is not going to fix the issue then please log a SR -- Meanwhile, I would suggest you apply this patch in any development instance and see if you can reproduce the issue.

    Hi
We've had the same problem, and it had to do with the setting of tooltip_text, on items.
If tooltip_text was null in the fmb, we got FRM-99999 when setting it in runtime.
Added bogus tooltip_text in fmb, and were then able to set it in runtime as well.

  • FRM-40735: WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger raised unhandled except ORA-06508

    Dear Colleague,
I am migrating a Forms application from Forms 9i to Forms 10g. Most of my forms were originally created using the Oracle Designer Forms generator. I am also using the Webutil plugin. I just finished configuring Webutil, tested it and it seems to be working fine.
I am able to compile all code and generate a Form executable. However at runtime, I get an error as soon as the first line of code in the WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger.
    The error is:
    FRM-40735: WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-06508
and the beginning of the code is as follows. Using the debugger, I found out that the line:
    CGBS2$.SET_COORD_STYLE( 'P' );
    initiates an error.
    /* CGLY$INIT_CANVASES */
/* Call procedure to ensure correct canvases are visible */
    BEGIN
    CGBS2$.SET_COORD_STYLE( 'P' );
    CGBS2$.SET_QRY_ON_ENTRY( 'Y' );
    CGBS2$.SET_NAV_FROM_BLOCK( 'PROJ_BLOCK' );
    CGLY$CANVAS_MANAGEMENT;
    END;
Is the error telling me that this procedure was not found? How can I proceed to find the cause and solution of my problem? Are one of the Oracle Designer Forms Generator libraries missing?
I would appreciate a tip to help me begin seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
    Thanks and regards,
    Randy

It is consider "bad form" to usurp another's post. Please create your own Forum post and include a link or links to any relevant posts. As to Randy's situation, he simply compiled the Forms 9i Library module (.pll) with Forms 10g's compiler. This may not be the cause of your error. When you post your own question, please include your Forms version (full version [eg; 10.1.2.0.2] not the release [6i, 9i, 10g, etc]). Also include any sample code that might help us help you! ;-)

  • Urgent! FRM-10270 Cannot attach the library

I get the error message "FRM: 10270 Cannot attach the library SYSLIB while opening menu BMENU" but only when i try to open a second form while the first form is still running.
Both forms are working fine as long as they are not running at the same time.

All the forms and libraries (plx) are in the FORMS60_PATH.

  • FRM-10102

I have a separate oracle home in the registry called ORACLEPIER for my 6i installation. I keep my forms in c:\coaapps\somesubdir and my libraries in c:\coaapps\oraclelibraries. I have added c:\coaapps\oraclelibraries to the FORMS60_PATH key in the registry as well as to the PATH environment variable of the system properties. To my knowledge that's all I need to do, however, when I open my form in developer I get an FRM-10102 cannot attach library....
    What am I missing?

    From the Help Documentation:
To attach a library to a module:
    1. In the Object Navigator, open the desired form, menu, or library module.
    2. To open a module, choose File | Open and then specify the module type to open.
Note: When you attach a library to a module in Oracle Forms, you attach the .PLL version of the library. At runtime, Oracle Forms looks for a .PLX file by that name in the default search paths. If no .PLX file is present, Oracle Forms uses the .PLL file by that name.
    3. Expand the module and then select the Attached Libraries node. Choose Edit | Create to attach a library.
    4. Specify the name of the library to attach.
Tip: You should not specify a library path when attaching libraries. Path names for library attachments are stored internally and, as a result, are not portable. Instead, you should specify the name of the library and rely on the Oracle Forms' standard search path to locate your library at runtime.
When searching for attached libraries at runtime, Oracle Forms first searches the current directory [where the FMX is located] and then the directories listed in the PATH (FORMSxx_PATH and ORACLE_PATH) environment variables.
Note: If you specify a library path, Oracle Forms prompts you to confirm the specified path.
If you confirm, at runtime, Oracle Forms will search for your library based strictly on the specified path; Oracle Forms will not search the specified path and then perform the standard search, as well.
If you do not confirm, Oracle Forms removes the path and saves the library name. At runtime, Oracle Forms searches the standard search path to locate your library.
    5. Save the active form or menu module to incorporate the library attachment in the module definition.
Note: Attached libraries are read-only. You cannot edit an attached library; you can only reference the program units within it. To edit a library module, open it in the Object Navigator and use the PL/SQL Editor to edit program units.

  • Some Tips for Cablecard Users with HBO

I have been using a cablecard with my Hauppauge DCR-2650 digital tuner and Windows Media Center on my Windows 7 PC for 3 months with no problems on any of the Prime HD channels. I just subscribed to HBO and was not able to access any of the HBO channels, SD or HD. The message "Subscription Required" would appear after a few seconds, along with a message saying I needed to obtain a subscription to HBO. After Live Chatting to 3 techs over 3 days, I was finally able to access the HBO channels. I'm not sure this solution is permanent, but this is what I did. First I updated the firmware and drivers for my Hauppauge device. Then when I Live Chatted with the technician, he performed a "manual cablecard validation". During this process he asked for my cablecard ID, the Host ID, the Data ID and the activation code. He had me switch channels from an HBO channel to a non-HBO channel, then back again. Voila! It worked. So if my HBO disappears in the future I'll be asking for a tech who knows how to perform a "manual cablecard validation".  Now I had my HBO channels in HD, but the picture was flickering a bit, enough to make it annoying to watch. After Googling "HBO HD flicker" I found that the problem was not with the cablecard or Fios, but with the graphics adapter settings. I have an integrated graphics chip on my PC, an Intel 3000 graphics chip. I opened the graphics properties page and in the "Media" category under "Image Enhancement Option" I turned off the "Adaptive Contrast Enhancement" feature. This fixed the flicker. Hopefully this post will help those few who are using a cablecard with their Home Theater PCs.
