TIPS(25) : CREATING A DATABASE LAYOUT
=====================================
The script below is one I used quite frequently when I was with
Oracle Consulting.
It is handy for walking into a company and getting a quick layout of
their database.
I call it dbmap.sql.
spool dbmap.txt;

SELECT tablespace_name "Tablespace Name",

Thanks guys. I'm still trying to learn the programs mentioned. For a person who knows nothing about databases FileMaker was pretty easy to work with. The downside was that it doesn't work with images so well. I was thinking of testing Smart Catalog an extension for InDesign by WoodWing next. Or maybe XCatalog or InCatalog. I'm not too sure Portfolio is right for me, it's great if I wanted to catalog my products with metadata - like a inventory list - but I don't. I want to take the product information from a access/excell file, import it into some type of a catalog program where i can design the layout then save the file as a PDF so I can send it to get professionally printed.
The extension for InDesign might be my best bet, especially since I'm a tad familiar with it. Or Quark, I haven't tried it yet but it seems promising. Thanks for all the suggestions - I'd be lost without all your help.

TIPS(18) : CREATING SCRIPTS TO RECREATE A TABLE STRUCTURE
제품 : SQL*PLUS

TIPS(18) : Creating Scripts to Recreate a Table Structure
=========================================================
The script creates scripts that can be used to recreate a table structure.
For example, this script can be used when a table has become fragmented or to
get a defintion that can be run on another database.
CREATES SCRIPT TO RECREATE A TABLE-STRUCTURE
INCL. STORAGE, CONSTRAINTS, TRIGGERS ETC.
This script creates scripts to recreate a table structure.
Use the script to reorganise a table that has become fragmented,
to get a definition that can be run on another database/schema or
as a basis for altering the table structure (eg. drop a column!).
IMPORTANT: Running the script is safe as it only creates two new scripts and
does not do anything to your database! To get anything done you have to run the
scripts created.
The created scripts does the following:
1. save the content of the table
2. drop any foreign key constraints referencing the table
3. drop the table
4. creates the table with an Initial storage parameter that
will accomodate the entire content of the table. The Next
parameter is 25% of the initial.
The storage parameters are picked from the following list:
64K, 128K, 256K, 512K, multiples of 1M.
5. create table and column comments
6. fill the table with the original content
7. create all the indexes incl storage parameters as above.
8. add primary, unique key and check constraints.
9. add foreign key constraints for the table and for referencing
tables.
10.Create the table's triggers.
11.Compile any depending objects (cascading).
12.Grant table and column privileges.
13.Create synonyms.
This script must be run as the owner of the table.
If your table contains a LONG-column, use the COPY
command in SQL*Plus to store/restore the data.
USAGE
from SQL*Plus:
start reorgtb
This will create the scripts REORGS1.SQL and REORGS2.SQL
REORGS1.SQL contains code to save the current content of the table.
REORGS2.SQL contains code to rebuild the table structure.

created. Alter these script as necesarry.
To recreate the table-structure, first run REORGS1.SQL.
This script saves the content of your table in a table

If this script runs successfully run REORGS2.SQL.
The result is spooled to REORGTB.LST.
Check this file before dropping the bk_ table.

Hi Experts,
We have 4 nodes oracle 11.1 RAC with oracle 10g2 DATABASE with ASM in redhat5.1.
the system is not more file system
now my boss want to add additional file system and ask me to create new database in RAC.
My question is which is best to create new database?
1) create second database under existing oracle server.
in these way, which bad effection is for existing DB that support a heavy data loading, GIS application and stream (data replication)
How to configure new ASM for new database? are there two ASM instance in system?
or
2) install new oracle in new directory. configure new ASM and create new database as ASM in new directory.
In this case, it seems that two DB is total separately without touch each other.
I do not have idea.
Please advice me your experience for RAC to handle two or more database and any tips.

Why?
This is not how RAC scales. RAC scales by adding more servers to the cluster, thereby increasing the processing capacity of the cluster. RAC does not scale by adding more instances to a server node.
You want to pay once for the overheads of a database instance. You want to have a single large SGA for the instance to use - as it is better than having 2 smaller SGAs for 2 instances. You want pay, in bytes, once for a system tablespace, temp tablespace, undo tablespace and redo/undo logs. You want to pay once in memory and CPU for a set of system processes for that instance - a database writer, log writer, system and process monitors, etc.
It does not make sense to pay twice for any of these. 2 system monitor processes are not somehow better than one. 2 smaller SGA are not better than 1 large SGA. 2 sets of ASM instances do not provide a better service than a single ASM instance.
My question is which is best to create new database?Create a logical database - within Oracle that means you create a new schema. That schema is a logical database. It can have its own tablespaces. It can have its own resource profile. t can even have its own temp space, etc.
1) create second database under existing oracle server.Correct - this is what I refer to as a schema.
in these way, which bad effection is for existing DB that support a heavy data loading, GIS application and stream (data replication)
How to configure new ASM for new database? are there two ASM instance in system?Single ASM instance.
or
2) install new oracle in new directory. configure new ASM and create new database as ASM in new directory.
In this case, it seems that two DB is total separately without touch each other.No. As this is exactly how one does not scale Oracle. Remember that if you want a 2nd set of instances, you need to use existing memory and CPU top pay for the overheads of that.. which means you will be taking away from the existing instance. Why turn the existing instance into something less than what it was before in order to create another (also inferior) instance?
No, it is better to add to the existing instance instead... rather add a logical database to it. Rather add more space, more memory, more RAC nodes to it.. as that is how Oracle RAC scales. -
I am on a short term assignment at a utility. The database in
question is about 11G in size. It is V 8.1.6 on Open Alpha VMS V
7.2-1. It supports 11 applications, all low OLTP - high query
applications. It is hot backed up/archived. Until yesterday, all
of the files were on 2 (slow) RAID1 volumes(each one disk).
Yesterday, two RAID5 volumes (each volume has 2 disks + 1
parity) were made available to this database. So, I recommended
(for starters) moving (renaming) all of the table data files to
Volume 1 of the RAID5 volumes, index data files Volume 2. This
appears to be working quite nicely. However, all of the other
files (redo, rollback, temp, system) have remained on the old
RAID1 disks. Here is that layout on those two volumes:
Volume3 (Raid 1)
Temporary tablespace #1 datafile
Temporary tablespace #2 datafile
System tablespace datafile
Rollback tablespace #1 datafile
Redo Logs "A" mirror
Volume4 (Raid 1)
Temporary tablespace #3 datafile
Temporary tablespace #4 datafile
Rollback tablespace #2 datafile
Redo Logs "B" mirror
Archived Redo Logs
Please don't ask why there are 4 temp tablespaces! The
explanation I got caused me to lose even more of my hair.
My proposal, given the limited volumes available, is as follows:
RAID5 Volume 1
(This volume currently has all of the table data datafiles.)
1.Move all of the temporary tablespace datafiles over here with
the table data. Obviously, I would not want these with the Index
datafiles. I should mention that all of the temporary
tablespaces are defined as type temporary, but not using
tempfiles. There are very few sorts taking place on disk. That
ratio is excellent. The sort area size is adequate.
2.Move the archived redo logs here as well. (Or would putting
them with the index datafiles be better?)
RAID5 Volume 2
(This currently has all of the index tablespace datafiles.)
No change, unless we put the archived redo logs here, as
mentioned above.
This would leave the mirrored redo logs on Volume 3 and 4
(RAID1), and one rollback segment tablespace datafile on each of
those RAID1 volumes. (Or is is better to put rollbacks on the
RAID5 volumes, and keep Temp tablespaces on the Raid 1 volumes
with the redo logs?) No matter where I put those danged rollback
datafiles, they conflict with something else!)
From my personal experience and reading various books and posts
on datafile layouts, the above recommendation seems to be the
most reasonable compromise to me. I know that it is frowned upon
to put temp or rollback on RAID5, but it is equally frowned upon
to have them on the same RAID1 volumes, especially when redo
logs are also there! I will greatly appreciate all opinions on
possible alternatives!"List" mode is a specific layout that includes all of the fields, and places them in a spreadsheet-like grid. Your only options are the widths of the columns, the heights of the rows, and the order of the columns.
For a page that displayes only some of the fields, you must create a new layout that contains only those fields. If you want its appearance to be similar to List view, choose a "Columnar Report" as the type of layout to create.
Regards,
Barry -
I'm looking for some advice on setting up a database with regards to the log files and data files. I come from a SQL Server background and figure some of the basic ideas will follow across to Oracle.
In SQL Server, I would create two partitions on the system, a RAID 1 for my operating system, SQL Server 2005, the master database, and the log files for my user databases. The second would be a RAID 5 partition for the data files for my user databases and nothing more. I assume this is what you'd do in Oracle as well. Is that accurate?
Also, is there a database/schema in Oracle similar to the master database in SQL Server? Is it advisable to move that off to a faster partition in Oracle as it is in SQL Server?
Any information regarding best practices for database layout is greatly appreciated.the master database in SQL Server is nothing but the SYSTEM tablespace in Oracle which contains all the dictionary and all other database related information. Going with LOCAL MANAGED TABLESPACE and with SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT AUTO are best for automatic management of space. Users tablespace must be created separate from SYSTEM tablespace to relieve contention in database.

Appleworks 6.0, I'm trying to print a database with only SOME of the existing fields, using specific search criteria. I've saved the searches, created a new layout with only the fields I want to see, but it is only visible in "browse" mode . . . when I try to switch the new layout to "list mode" it shows ALL of the fields!
What am I missing please? THANKS!

Hi all,
In my SQL Server 2012 Management Studio (SSMS2012), I tried to create a Database (MacLochainnsDB) and a dbo Table (marvel). then I wanted insert 8 VALUES into the Table by using the following code:

How can I correct this problem?
Please kindly help and advise.

P. S.
The reason I tried to create the Database, dbo Table, and then to insert the VALUES is to learn the following thing:
You can query the entire node tree with the following xquery statement because it looks for the occurrence of any node with the /* search string:
DECLARE @x xml;
SET @x = N'<marvel>
<avenger_name>Captain America</avenger_name>
</marvel>';
SELECT @x.query('/*');
You can query the avenger_name elements from the marvel_xml table with the following syntax:
SELECT xml_table.query('/marvel/avenger_name')
FROM marvel_xml;
It returns the following set of avenger_name elements:
<avenger_name>Hulk</avenger_name>
<avenger_name>Iron Man</avenger_name>
<avenger_name>Black Widow</avenger_name>
<avenger_name>Thor</avenger_name>
<avenger_name>Captain America</avenger_name>
<avenger_name>Hawkeye</avenger_name>
<avenger_name>Winter Soldier</avenger_name>
<avenger_name>Iron Patriot</avenger_name>
You can query the fourth avenger_name element from the marvel_xml table with the following xquery statement:
SELECT xml_table.query('/marvel[4]/avenger_name')
FROM marvel_xml;
It returns the following avenger_name element:
<avenger_name>Thor</avenger_name>Hi Scott,
The master database records all the system-level information for a SQL Server system, so best practise would be not to create any user-defined
object within it.
To change your default database(master by default) of your login to another, follow the next steps so that next time when connected you don't have to use "USE dbname" to switch database.
Open SQL Server Management Studio
--> Go to Object explorer(the left panel by default layout)
--> Extend "Security"
--> Extend "Logins"
--> Right click on your login, click "propertites"
--> Choose the "Default database" at the bottom of the pop-up window.
--or simply by T-SQL
Exec sp_defaultdb @loginame='yourLogin', @defdb='youDB'
Regarding your question, you can reference the below.
SELECT * FROM master.sys.all_objects where name ='Marvel'
--OR
SELECT OBJECT_ID('master.dbo.Marvel') --if non empty result returns, the object exists
--usually the OBJECT_ID is used if a if statement as below
IF OBJECT_ID('master.dbo.Marvel') IS NOT NULL
PRINT ('TABLE EXISTS') --Or some other logic
What is the sys.all_objects? See
here.
If you have any question, feel free to let me know.

Is there a way to create a database with Test Stand?
Anyone know of a way to have Test Stand create a database? My company standard MS Office suite is Microsoft Access 2010, and TestStand does not support the .accmdb extension type(format), so I have to create new databases using old formats. I'm worried about backwards compatability down the road since good ole Microsoft doesn't seem to care about legacy formats.
I'm still a beginner with databasing, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.TestStand 2012 SP1, and we are using a modified Generic Recordset (NI). The problem we are having right now is that the Build SQL instructions are not creating the database tables the way we are configuring them from the "Statements" and "Column/Parameters" tabs under Database Options.
What is happening is when we validate the schema, and drop all schema tables, it empties all the database tables, but then when you build using the TestStand generated sql file, we get errors(shown below) we are not understanding, and we can no longer write to the database and LabVIEW throws a "Data type mismatch in criteria expression" error like this
"Possible reason(s):
ADO Error: 0x80040E07
Exception occured in Microsoft JET Database Engine: Data type mismatch in criteria expression. in NI_Database_API.lvlib:Conn Execute.vi->TSData - Query Actions.vi->Retrieve Test Data.vi->ARA-63 Data Miner.vi->ARA-63 Data Miner.vi.ProxyCaller"

Error while creating a new layout in a report.
I am getting this error message:
Failed to save data.
Error occurred when creating xml data.
when I try to save after I create a new layout in my report.
Is there some common problem with templates that could cause this to happen?
I'll continue to look around for an answer but if anyone would like to see the template and a sample set of XML data so they can help me figure out what the problem is, that would be swell.
-Nevermind. The problem seems to have dissapeared. Apparently the appropriate order of operations is
1: Create new layout.
2: Upload RTF Template
Please feel free to delete this post -.-i am also getting the same error here and i have followed what you laid out, i am still getting the same error.

Getting "SAPSQL_ARRAY_INSERT_DUPREC" error while creating a new layout
Hi,
I deleted a layout from a level. When I tried to create a new layout with the same technical name, I was getting a run time error.
Name of the error : SAPSQL_ARRAY_INSERT_DUPREC
Exception : CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB
I went to ST22 and analyzed the dump. I found that the entries for the layout that I deleted were still present in the following 2 tables:
1) UPP_PARAMT
2) UPP_ELEMT
My questions are:
1) Is there any possibilities that I can retrive the layout that I deleted with the help of the entries present in the above tables?
2) Can I remove the entries from these two tables so that I can create a new layout with the same technical name?
Thanks,
Seetharaman VHi Matt
Thanks for your comments. I was getting this error while trying to save the new layout i created and not during the creatiion.
Thanks,
Seetha -
Request time out when creating content database
Hello,
my problem is, that i cannot create a SharePoint content database via the central administration.
My Setup is the following:
SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise Farm
1x Applikation Server/WFE (Windows Server 2012 SP 1)
1x Database Server MSSQL Server 2012 (Windows Server 2012 SP 1)
1x TFS 2013 (Windows Server 2012 SP 1)
all of them are hosted in the same Hyper-V Environment. It is not the fasted Hyper-V Environment existing on planet earth.
The weirdest part of the problem is, i am able to create a content database via powershell.
I am running in some kind of time out issue related to the IIS and CA of that Applikation Server.
Here is the ULS Log from the failling content database creation via CA

The fact that i am able to create a content database through powershell sorts out permissions problems. I am certain of that because the w3wp.exe and the powershell.exe used for both creations were run under the same user.
The timeout always happens aroud 120 seconds after i started the creation. The creation via powershell takes about 3,5 minutes.
Here for the folks that ask me, why i haven't asked google or bing or some other search engine.
I tried the solutions suggested here
http://www.sharepointpals.com/post/Error-while-Creating-Web-Application-through-Central-Administration , here
http://anthonyspiteri.net/sharepoint-2010-web-ui-timeout-creating-web-application-quick-fix/ and here
http://blogs.ibs.com/Duane.Odum/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=33
which i thought pointed me to the right solution.
But those post unfortunatly didnt worked out.
I also tried to alter the web.config files (i know that isn't recommended or supported, but it didn't change anything so those are back to normal as well)
So here are my question:
Can you guys help me solve this issue?
Are there any other places where timeouts can be managed or defined?
P.S.: I am new to using this forum. so pls don't crucify me for doing a mistake.
P.S.S: My english is very poor also :D
With best regards
SimonBe careful with settings like these because there may be a much deeper issue at hand. I have had an issue with a customer that manifests itself as a timeout on a site collection. It was very hard to track since it didn't happen frequently. We engaged Microsoft
Support to find out the root cause but all they could point at is a general network issue that pertains to authentication. After digging deeper, we found out that the network issue was caused by a saturated network connectivity to the domain controller that
impacts a site collection when the database is making an authentication call. Keep this solution as more of a quick fix but be sure to conduct a deeper investigation of the real root cause

Sharepoint server 2013 configuration issue - failed to create configuration database
Hi All,
I have installed the SharePoint server 2013. After installing the SharePoint products, the configuration stops at failure of creating configuration database.
Some system configuration & info:
- 1 Domain controller server run Active Directory services on Windows server 2008 R2 SP1 (PC1 with name DC.Brainfiniti.com)
- 1 Server which is used for installing Sharepoint server 2013 and MS SQL server 2008 R2 SP1 (PC2 with name App.Brainfiniti.com)
- All of PCs were satisfied the requirement of Sharepoint server 2013
- Firewall turned off & No antivirus tool was installed.
- During installing of Sharepoint, choose "Complete" option: Farm mode and use SQL Server instead of SQL Express.
- During configuration, created a new farm with a domain user account.
- Use domain account to log on and install, configure in Sharepoint & SQL server (PC2)
ATTEMPTS:
1. Tried install and set up all of steps with just 1 account - domain administrator.
2. Tried with separate domain account:
- SQL Service account use for:
+ Install SQL server 2008
+ Connect all SQL services
+ Admin for SQL server
- Setup account use for:
+ Member of local administrator group in PC2
+ Install Sharepoint
+ Run Configuration wizard
+ Was granted permission in SQL database: dbcreator, securityadmin, sysadmin and deselect serveradmin role.
+ Was choose for the database account in configuration database step
Also tried with SQL service account in this step.
3. Tried with Standalone mode for Sharepoint installing
4. Trie with domain name: Brainfiniti.local
5. Tried with some another solution from topic relate to database configuration in our community but not successful.
But all attempts are failed at this configuration database step :'(
Please correct me if I am going wrong by missing something or do I need to start/install some services.

Sorry! Cannot add screenshot because my account is still not verified. Will add later.

How to create a database for sample code from Tutorial/Book?
I want to try out the sample code from [http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920013471.do] for the book SQL Pocket Guide 3rd Ed.
I have downloaded the oracle vm/appliance for oracle 11g2 and I have started sqlplus as sysdba.
I'm feeling overwhelmed with these links describing how to create a database:
(1) What is the command to list the existing databases?
(2) What is the command to delete an existing database?
(3) When creating a new database with the create database command, is it necessary to specify the logfile, character set, national character set, datafile, sysaux datafile, undo tablespace, temp table space? Do these have reasonable defaults? I'm not sure what proper directories are to specify for Linux and the examples are for windows.
Can someone give me a simplified create database command to create a database called 3rdEdPocketGuide? Should I follow the example at [http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Oracle-7-HOWTO-3.html] and instead of orcl use 3rdEdPocketGuide?
(4) What command do I use to execute the script that comes with the book SQL Pocket Guide 3rd Ed? This is the script that has all the drop table, create table and insert commands in it.
(5) What command do I use in sqlplus to set the current default database prior to running this script? Perhaps this is the connect command? I don't want my script to create tables in the system database.
(6) I tried the command "connect 3rdEdPocketGuide" and it prompted for a password! Yikes! What password? Do I need to specify a password when I create a database? I cannot tell if I have successfully created such a database or it is just prompting me for a password to thwart malicious users. Is it is possible to create databases which don't require a password or maybe a zero length password?
Thanks
Siegfried

Anyway, I'm trying your suggestion to use SQL Developer which was already installed in the virtual box appliance and I cannot figure out how to get a connection.
When I use the defaults of sid=xe, port=1521, hostname=localhost and specify
username=sysdba
password=
I get status: failure - test failed: listener refursed connection with the following error: ORA 12505, TNS: listener does not current know of sid given.
So I try sid=orcl and that works better: status: failure - test failed: ORA-01017: invalid username/passowrd; login denied
OK, sqlplus let me in with out a password, why does not this work?
So I try checking the box for "OS Authentication" and I get the same error!
Hoek: I tried searching the documentation and found "3 Exploring Oracle Database with SQL Developer" at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e10766/toc.htm but following those directions did not help. Can you be more specific? The directions were for a tutorial and I need to know what the passwords are for the database set up with [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/databaseappdev-vm-161299.html|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/databaseappdev-vm-161299.html] . Everyone:
Do I need to create a user using SQL*Plus first so I can login with "Oracle SQL Developer" so I create my database called? What would be the "create user" command I would execute?
OK, so I run sqlplus and issue these commands
create user siegfried identified by abc ;
grant connect to siegfried ;
connect siegfried/abc;
Now, how do I create a database? In Microsoft SQL Server one has to create a database first and if you just start creating tables without creating a database first, the tables will be created in the system database and this is usually undesirable.
Sometimes a database is known in the java connection string as the catalog. Is there any such analog in oracle SQL plus?
So now what do I do? I want to create a bunch of tables using my script I downloaded from 3rd Ed SQL Pocket Guide. Does my new user "siegfried" have the right to create tables? I guess I could try but I don't want to create tables in the system database.
I noticed I can also use "Oracle SQL Developer" to connect with my new "siegfried" account. It seems that I should have been able to connect with sysdba... strange.
So now I am connected in the "Oracle SQL Developer" and I see no list of databases.
Thanks!
