  • Canon 860 Series (Pixma) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips

After spending several hours sorting out Canon Pixma OSX problems here are my thoughts:
Canon 860 Series (Pixma 868) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips
    Problem:
    - New imac and MacBook Pro 2012 (OSX 10.8.2) had a problem using Canon Pixma 868 printer on network and would not scan or print using Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print), which has advanced scanning and photo printing functions.
    - When I connected the canon printer to my imac, OSX 10.8.2 automatically downloaded and installed drivers for Canon 860 series printer. I could then add the new printer (select ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”) and printer would work while connected via USB but could not get to print or scan over network wifi.
    - The original Canon 860 Series CD does not work with 10.8 and the manual / online instructions did not make sense (as based on CD install).
    Solution:
    1) Install Canon Printer Drivers and Software (from official Canon site)
Go to canon support site, review FAQ, then download and install following Pixma 860 Series software & drivers for OSX 10.8 (links see below). The version I downloaded is in brackets but check for updated version. Full instructions are below.
Canon 860 Series Drivers & Software  for OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion:
The base software and drivers needed for using Canon 860 Series on Mac OS X 10.8 (USB) are
    1 Printer Driver
(Canon MX860 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0 (03-Aug-2012))
    2 Scanner Driver
(Canon MX860 series Scanner Driver Ver. 14.11.4a (03-Aug-2012))
    3 Network Tool
(Canon IJ Network Tool Ver. 4.1.0 for Intel Mac (27-Dec-2012)
Canon Software for using advanced printing and scanning functions (while connected to network)
    4 Solution Menu
    (Canon Solution Menu Ver. 1.4.1 (27-Jul-2012 ))
    5 MP Navigator EX
(Canon MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 (02-Auf-2012))
    6 Easy-PhotoPrint EX
    (Canon Easy-PhotoPrint EX Ver. 4.1.6 (21-Jan-2013 ))
Canon Support (HK) – check your local site
    http://www.canon.com.hk/en/download/main/index.do
Select Product and drivers from support site eg http://support-hk.canon-asia.com/
    1. Choose a product category
    Multifunctional Printers
    2. Choose a product series
      Pixma
    3. Choose a product model
      Pixma MX868
    4. Choose type of document
    Downloads or FAQ
If you have problems installing the software under 10.8, see the FAQ on Canon site. You will need to allow software installs from “unidentified developers by using “Control” Key or by changing your system preferences)
    2) Check Canon Printer and Software Working while connected via USB
Once you have downloaded and installed drivers and software and restarted computer, check that the printer and Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print) are working via USB.  Open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App) and make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it shows the correct SSID Wifi settings (under the Canon IJ Network Tool App ‘Setup menu’).  This is normally done as part of the automatic install but worth double checking
    3) Add new network printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”).
After you have checked USB printing turn off printer, unplug the USB cable and shutdown the Canon IJ Network Tool App.
Then turn the printer back on and wait 30s. Then add a new printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”). Once you select “+” (add new printer), wait 10-30s for the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer to appear in the new window eg Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) (Kind: “Canon IJ Network”)
DO NOT ADD THE MX 860 SERIES BONJOUR SCANNER (the Bonjour Scanner is the built-in software, is not needed and often appears first on the add printer list).  The Canon scanner can be accessed used through the MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 software (which has much better functions)
You will now have two Printer Canon MX860 (USB) and Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network). Set the Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network) as default and test print and scan
If the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer does not appear, check the printer and make sure that the printer can see the wifi network. On the printer select Menu / Settings / Device Settings / Lan Settings / WLAN Setting List.  It should say WLAN Active, identify the SSID and have an IP address
If the printer can not see the Wifi Network, plug the USB cable back in, then open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App). Make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it has your SSID settings (under setup), if it has this info, restart the computer and the printer and try again

  • Need help with Installing Canon LBP 2900B on Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8

I know this is going to sound silly, but really need help with this, URGENTLY!!!
Bought a Canon LBP2900B printer more than a year ago, and was using it on my MacBook Pro with OSX Snow Leopard (10.6.8) very well. My hard disk recently crashed and now I cannot reinstall the printer, nor can I find the driver for it anywhere for the Mac.
Have searched all the forums and followed all discussion threads on the Apple Communities as well, but none of the solutions seem to work. Even went back to @Dexter's solution with trying to download the file from the link http://boolet.free.fr/CAPT.zip (this is what I had done when I bought the printer, and it worked perfectly) but the link doesn't exist anymore.
Extremely grateful if anyone can put up a solution to this, or alternatively, IF ANYONE HAS THE OLD CAPT.ZIP FILE AND CAN UPLOAD IT.
Thanks in advance. Look forward to your solutions.
    Cheers

Depends on how the partitons are arranged. If they're exactly as quoted, then yes.
Open Disk Utility and select the partition tab.
In the diagram, the top partition needs to be the one you're booted from, and partition 2 the middle one.
Select Partiton 2 so that it's highlighted, and click the '-' button below the diagram.
Drag the bottom right corner of partition 1 down to meet partition 3.

    There are several possibilities.
    1. You do not have contiguous free disk space.
    2. BCA has failed, or you may have a Fusion drive which is causing problems.
    3. You have incorrect permissions on the disk.

  • Tips and help with re-installing Lion over Snow Leopard

I had MAJOR issues with my initial Lion install on my Mid-2009 MBP- so much so, that I had to wipe my hard drive and re-install Snow Leopard and all my applications. My major issues were as follows:
    1. All my files were locked out- I could open them in most cases, but I couldn't overwrite them- Lion had aded some funky permissions scheme that I didn't recognize, and my user name wasn't present on any of them. In some cases, I couldn't even open files, even though they were resident on my hard drive (and in my own user folder) before the upgrade to Lion.
    2. Apple's own Universal Binary apps wouldn't work after the upgrade. Final Cut Pro 6, in particular, came up with a message that it was a "PowerPC" app and wouldn't run- yet Shake 4.1 would run just fine!
    3. Adobe Creative Suite 3- after the upgrade, my Abode Ceative Suite 3 apps worked just fine, for about a day- that is, until I tried to correct the file permissions issue by changing permission on a few of my folders in my User folder (and electing to change permissions in the files contained therein)- at which point my Adobe apps told me that they were damaged and needed to be reinstalled. Yet after uninstaling and reinstalling the entire Creative Suite 3 times, I still would get the same message.
My entire workflow is Adobe CS and FCS2- why chould I have to pay the upgrade costs just to use Lion? FCPX is completely brkoen for my workflow and eqipment, and Adobe can't even guarantee that CS5 works with Lion- so why does Apple insist on Lion when it's hardly even compatible with its own products?
I really want to use Lion, but I am looking for some tips on instalation to kep these problems from happening again. I didn' have ANY of these problems with upgrading OS 10.2 through 10.6. Any help with prepping my system/files for upgrading would be helpful. Thanks!

Me, I think clone backups are more useful, and only use T.M. as secondary.
Using Cloning as a Backup Strategy
I'd assume that professional apps may need to be tested still; and of course check to see what you have that depends on PowerPC code and Rosetta first. That has some in a tither.
A clone lets you still be able to boot Snow Leopard. Check out Carbon Copy, SuperDuper.

  • I have  PS CS4 Extended. When I start it I get a message that I need to reinstall it. I search Adobes and found a download for Mac which I installed and when started entered myserial number. It was not accepted. Any tips?

The file downloaded is named NikCollection_1.2.8_0511-456.dmg. The installation went ok but when I start photoshop i am prompted for my serial number,
I have it on the back on my CD case (but my CD is not  working any more) and it is the same number as it registered at my Adobe account.
Photoshop starts ok but after a while it prompts for my serial number. When I enter my serial number it is not accepted.
    Grateful for any tips.

Did you go here for the installer? Download CS4 products
When you enter the serial number see that you get the serial number correct, in fact copy and paste from the one in your account.
You should see a green checkmark.
If all goes well you should be allowed to install and activate. If activation fails, contact Customer Care by phone or Chat.

  • Tips For CS4 Mac Install?

After a decade plus of using Photoshop Elements, I have upgraded to CS4.  I presently have Elements 6 for the Mac and Bridge CS3 (which comes with it) installed.
Are there tips out there regarding my installation that I should observe to ensure a smoothly operating CS4 when I'm done (other than the normal for Macs--I'm a 20+ year Mac veteran)?  Should I completely uninstall PE6 and Bridge CS3?

    Click the install button.

  • Problems installing Photoshop CS4, keeps getting stuck on "installing Adobe Air." Tips?

I'm trying to install Photoshop CS4, but it keeps getting stuck on "installing Adobe Air" every time. Freezes, makes no more progress, eventually I have to force quit. I've even downloaded and installed it (Air) separately, but it keeps getting stuck on it in the CS4 install. Any tips? I'm running 10.8.5 on a MacBook Air. Saw something about deleting Adobe FlashPlayer to maybe fix it? Any and all tips welcome. Thx.

Googling only comes up with a couple things where someone was trying to
install a cracked version they downloaded, so it could be a corruption
    problem.
If this is a downloaded installer, then redownload it and try installing,
    again.
If you are inserting a DVD and autoplay is starting up and you get this
message, you can shut down the installer process as you've done then instead
of double-clicking the DVD, use right-click Explore to view the files
directly on the DVD without running AutoPlay, then find the setup.exe or
something.MSI with EN in it's name to run the installer, directly, without
goint through autoplay.  This would only make a difference if the autoplay
is corrupted somehow but everything else is ok.  Since your error message
talks about autoplay then maybe that is the case.
If you are calling Adobe for support, it can take hours, depending on when

  • User Tip: BootCamp - Install Windows XP & then Windows 7

Here is my tip for installing Windows XP in Mountain Lion/BootCamp, and in subsequently upgrading to Windows 7...
I've tried all the Virtualisation programs: CrossOver, VirtualBox, Fusion, and Parallels - and none can be called 'brisk' in their operation, so I've gone the Bootcamp route.
If you have an original Windows 7 install disk this is no problem in Mountain Lion. Unfortunately for me, I have Windows XP 32bit OEM disc and a Windows 7 64bit upgrade disc. Mountain Lion doesn't play with XP, so this how to workaround the problem (but you'll need a Snow Leopard disc)....
    1) On your Mac, Insert Windows 7 upgrade disc,
    2) Run Boot Camp and make your Windows Partition the size you want and complete the wizard. Start the Windows 7 installer,
    3) Be prepared to burn a disc with the Bootcamp drivers for later use, for when you install your Windows 7 upgrade disc over Windows XP,
    4) Restart your Mac - and after the chime, hold down the 'alt' key until you see the screen showing Mac HD and the Windows Disc,
Use the arrow key to highlight the Windows CD, then press the eject key.
    5) Insert your Windows XP CD,
    6) Install Windows XP,
    7) When prompted, insert your product key,
    8) Install Bootcamp Drivers from your SnowLeopard disc from inside Windows.
Run Apple Software Updates in Windows as many times before no more updates are available in order to get the latest BootCamp drivers.
If you're content with using Windows XP, the job is completed - save for installing your choice of software - but if you want to upgrade from 32bit XP to 64bit Windows 7....
If you insert your Windows 7 64bit upgrade disc into your Windows XP 32bit desktop an incompatible warning is given. So here's how to install your Windows 7 64 bit upgrade...
    1) With Windows XP open, insert your Windows 7 disc - and ignore the incompatibility warning,
    2) From the 'start' menu, restart Windows,
    3) When your Mac restarts, hold down the 'alt' key until you see the screen showing Mac HD and the Windows Disc,
    4) Use the arrow to select the Windows disc,
    5) Choose the install option, and agree to the MS terms and conditions,
    6) Your two options are to 'upgrade' or perform a 'custom install',
    7) Choose custom install (this will perform a fresh install of Windows 7 over your Windows XP installation). This will wipe all your previous software applications,
    8) When prompted, insert your product key,
    9) Go watch some paint dry - this will take some time to complete,
    10) When completed, insert the disc previously burned with BootCamp drivers,
    11) The overly bright monitor settings can be altered via the nVidea control panel in Windows,
    12) Install your chosen Windows programs, and you're done.
    Good Luck.

In my original post on this subject, my Mac Mini is running Mountain Lion. Fortunately for me I also have an old Snow Leopard disc that contained the requisite drivers to install Windows XP. Without this Snow Leopard disc you will not be able to install Windows XP.
If this is your only method for installing Windows XP - and you are desperate to install Windows XP - a certain well-known auction site currently has Snow Leopard discs for a modest price.
If, however, you only need to install Windows 7 you do not need a Snow Leopard disc. Installation of Windows 7 should be straightforward and without issue in Mountain Lion.
    As for running virtualisation programs...
On their own I do not believe that the current crop of virtualisation programs offer a 'brisk' experience in running any flavour of Windows on their own without 'assistance'. However, by first installing Windows in a BootCamp partition there is an advantage in then installing, say, Parallels. You then effectively link Parallels to your BootCamp partition.
Once Parallels starts for the first time it mirrors all your settings from your BootCamp partition, including all installed Windows programs. The only problem is that Windows will then think that you have Windows installed on two separate computers  (including MS Office). To overcome this you will need to call the MS freephone line to obtain the required Windows OS and MS Office code for manual entry to make the installation work as expected.
Even so, despite these installation quirks, the benefit is that you get the best of both worlds - a virtualised Windows front-end linked to a fast BootCamp back-end without having to switch between OSX and Windows.
The caveat is that you need a more 'modern' Mac with plenty of memory to make this combination fly as well compared to using the BootCamp installation alone.

  • I am trying to install final cut pro 6 onto my mac but a message keeps coming up saying its doesnt support a powerpc, anyone have any tips please?

I am trying to install final cut pro 6 onto my mac but a message keeps coming up saying its doesnt support a powerpc, anyone have any tips please?

If you have an Intel Mac and have recently upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion; here is a post I made in another similar thread:
I do not have any experience with Final Cut, but if you have existing projects that you MUST access; then you are in need of a solution on your new iMac in Mountain Lion!
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between Final Cut Pro or Lion/Mt. Lion;
    3.  Purchase a used Mac that will run Snow Leopard (with the optional Rosetta installed) and continue to run FCE on that Mac (you can actually use Screen Sharing with a "headless" used Snow Leopard Mac Mini and use the screen from your other Mac to view and work FCP in the Mac Mini environment);
    2.  Upgrade to an Intel compatible version of FCP (such as FCP X) and hope it converts your existing projects to its newer format correctly.  There is much debate that the newer version of Final Cut are eliminating many needed features; for example Final Cut Pro X vs. Final Cut Pro 6 -- many users are staying with version 6;
    3.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels and then install FCE in the Snow Leopard environment:
Full Snow Leopard installation instructions here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
NOTE: STEP ONE of the instructions must currently be completed on a Snow Leopard or Lion Mac and the resulting modified Snow Leopard.cdr install file can then be moved over to your Mountain Lion Mac for completion of the remaining steps.
NOTE 2:  Computer games with complex, 3D or fast motion graphics make not work well or at all in virtualization.

  • Tip for installing App Dev CD into WLS on 64-bit windows

    Hi All,
After pulling out some hair, I thought I'd share this tip.
    Scenario:
You are installing WebLogic 10.3.x on a 64-bit Windows platform, but are using a 32-bit JDK. You want to install the Application Development CD so that you can extend your WLS domains with the JRF, EM, etc.
    Symptoms:
You run setup.exe, the installer prompts you for a location of a JRE/JDK and you give it the 32-bit JDK location. The installer then quits without so much as a peep.
    Solution:
Instead of running setup.exe, navigate to install\win32 and run that setup.exe instead. The same thing works for installing the SOA suite.
Hope this saves someone else some time too.
    John

Thanks for the help - I edited the C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\test_domain2\bin\setDomainEnv.cmd file as follows:
@REM set BEA_JAVA_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\jrockit_160_24_D1.1.2-4 (I commented out this line)
set BEA_JAVA_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_24 (I added this line)
set SUN_JAVA_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_24 (this line was already here)
    After confirming ENV's:
    Path=C:\Java\jdk1.6.0_24\bin;C:\app\bschamac\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\bin;C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\
    JAVA_HOME=C:\Java\jdk1.6.0_24
I then restarted WLS, but the C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3\common\bin\commEnv.sh still says:
    JAVA_HOME="C:/Oracle/Middleware/jrockit_160_24_D1.1.2-4"
SO I think I am still hosed.

  • Kontakt 3 install and tips

    Hi Forum
I just got Kontakt 3. As for as I can tell it did not install properly. I believe the sample library and instruments are all installed as I've been able to use the editor and also to build multis and run as multi instrument in Logic. Sounds are great.
I've been in touch with Native Inst and they are trying to sort out issues, they suggested I post with other Logic users to see if similar issues happen to other Logic users - and maybe some tips.
    Issues:
    1. Kontakt won't Rebuild DB properly. It scans the correct path and quits it's scan about 35% of the way through the process.
    2. There are no preset available in the quick load. There is no list to select from in the Database. The only way to access instruments is from the File Browser which lists everything on my system and is very cumbersome.
I think it makes sense that these two issues are related.
All the obvious things have been checked out by myself and with NI direction (unistalled and did re install, correct path for Kontakt 3 Library, Kontakt installed properly and proper path, tested in both standalone and in Logic, etc ....
Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated. Cheers and best regards
    Dee

I just tried to rebuild my database and at first I thought I was having the same problem, it seemed to scan about 10%, or less then stop. Then I realised what was happening. This readout is not so intuitive.
First look at the numbers. The amount to be scanned and the amount scanned. If yours is like mine, though the numbers change fast you will see the changing number quickly approaches the static number then the window closes. I would prefer the window to stay open and tell me it has finished so I can click OK. What is deceptive is the progress bar. The Database is pointed towards the Kontakt folder and only scans the Kontakt folder, but I think the progress bar indicates what portion of the total disk has been scanned. My Kontakt 3 library is about 34GB on a 500GB disk (about 450GB after formatting. That is slightly under 10% which is what I am seeing on the progress bar. If your library is about 35% of your total formatted disk space, then perhaps it is finishing the scan and rebuild.
My Quickload menu is empty too. If I've understood the manual correctly, Quick Loads are favourite multis and instruments that you create. Again, If I;ve understood correctly, there are none there if we don't create them
