  • OSX SQLPLUS error:ORA-12162:TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified

    Dear oracle community,
    just stepped today into oracle world.
    Installed OracleXE on my remote UBUNTU server.
    From the server, sqlplus works perfectly.
    From my client (followed this tutorial http://www.danilovizzarro.it/?p=10 ), i can connect via the
    sqlplus connection string: #sqlplus hr/PASS@HOSTipADDRESS/XE .
    But when i try just sqlplus and enter username/password later on, i get
    ORA-12162:TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified .
    My config:
    OS - MAC OS X LEOPARD 10.5.5
    #echo $ORACLE_SID
    XE
    #echo $ORACLE_HOME
    /opt/oracle/instantclient_10_2/
    #echo $TNS_ADMIN
    /opt/oracle/tns/
    # cat /opt/oracle/tns/tnsnames.ora

    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = HOSTipADDRESS)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = XE)
    Any ideas - is it that sqlplus doesn't locate my tnsnames.ora file, or, maybe, there's an error in it?
    thanks for any ideas, recipies, suggestions :)
    enjoy the day,
    james

    If I understand you correctly you only give userid and password,but no connect string. That would be a LOCAL connection,which will not work,because you issue the command on the client,not the database server. For local connections you have to specify a value for ORACLE_SID. If you do that on your client (doesn't make sense , because you don't have a database here), you should see a message like 'Oracle not available'. If ORACLE_SID is not defined you get ORA-12162,which is a little misleading.

    This makes no sense.  You don't configure a listener nor a tnsnames.ora "in a database".   I hope this is just a language issue and not reflective of a fundamental misunderstanding of how tns works.

    ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified
    Cause:      The connect descriptor corresponding to the net service name in TNSNAMES.ORA or in the directory server (Oracle Internet Directory) is incorrectly specified.
    Action:      If using local naming make sure there are no syntax errors in the corresponding connect descriptor in the TNSNAMES.ORA file. If using directory naming check the information provided through the administration used for directory naming.

  • Report Builder Error: [BC30455] Argument not specified for parameter 'DateValue' of 'Public Function Day(DateValue As Date) As Integer'.

    Hi there!
    I'm trying to calculate the difference between two days using DATEDIFF (). I use following code for this:
    =DATEDIFF(DAY, CDate(Fields!Eingang_Kundenanfrage.Value),CDate(Fields!Ausgang_Angebot.Value))
    Every time I try to save the report, I get this error message:
    [BC30455] Argument not specified for parameter 'DateValue' of 'Public Function Day(DateValue As Date) As Integer'.
    The DataSource is a SharePoint List and the Date is given in the following format: 23.05.2014 00:00:00 (DD.MM.YYYY HH:MM:SS).
    I've googled for a working solution for a long time now, but I had no success.
    Is there someone who can help me?

    Hi Lucas,
    According to your description, you want to return the difference between two date. It seems that you want to get the days. Right?
    In Reporting Services, when we use DATEDIFF() function, we need to specify the data interval type, for days we can use "dd" or DateInterval.Day. So the expression should be like:
    =DATEDIFF(DateInterval.Day, CDate(Fields!Eingang_Kundenanfrage.Value),CDate(Fields!Ausgang_Angebot.Value))
    OR
    =DATEDIFF("dd", CDate(Fields!Eingang_Kundenanfrage.Value),CDate(Fields!Ausgang_Angebot.Value))

  • Argument not specified for parameter error.(IIF) Report Builder 3.0

    Hi, Im trying to set the font colour of text dynamically dependant upon the date.
    This is using report builder 3.0 expressions. -I'm new to using expressions.
    I want my expression to do this:
    If less than or equal to today, RED,
    If greater than today but less than today+30 days, yellow, (this is the confusing bit)
    else Black.
    My expression is this:
    =IIF(Fields!Standard_Licence_Expiry.Value =< TODAY(),"Red",
    IIF(Fields!Standard_Licence_Expiry.Value BETWEEN TODAY() and (DATEADD(DateInterval.DAY,30,GETDATE())),"Purple","Black")
    However I keep getting the error:
    The Color expression for the textrun ‘Standard_Licence_Expiry.Paragraphs[0].TextRuns[0]’ contains an error: [BC30455] Argument not specified for parameter 'FalsePart' of 'Public Function IIf(Expression As Boolean, TruePart As Object, FalsePart As Object)
    As Object'.

    Hi BlakeWills,
    Unlike T-SQL, there is no BETWEEN keyword in
    SSRS expressions. So we can try the expression like below to achieve your requirement:
    =IIF(Fields!Standard_Licence_Expiry.Value <=TODAY(),"Red", IIF(Fields!Standard_Licence_Expiry.Value > TODAY() and Fields!Standard_Licence_Expiry.Value < DateAdd(DateInterval.Day,30,Today()),"Yellow","Black"))
    Please note that the Standard_Licence_Expiry field should be a date type data in the expression above. If it is a string type, we should use the expression below to replace the Fields!Standard_Licence_Expiry.Value:
    cdate(Fields!Standard_Licence_Expiry.Value)
    If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.

    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10820/initparams262.htm#REFRN10230
    If you query the V$SYSTEM_PARAMETERS you can get a "quick help" because the columns are self documenting.
    I don't use RAC, but in single instance server you must stop the DB, modify the utl_file_dir, and restart.
    I think it's the same for a RAC...

    </action>
    we can find the parameter is set in the error message.is it a bug?
    thanks in advance
    best regards.

    Guo,
    I see a question mark in the sql statement, instead of the Oracle-style bind parameter notation which would be ":1". Can you change your VO to use Oracle-Style bind params and see whether it works?

  • "Keep Alive" parameter for listener?

    Hi all,
    we have following problem:
    From time to time the client (oracle forms 6i patch 18) gets the error message ORA-03114. Te solution is only to kill forms application and start it again.
    This hangs probably on the network breaks in the communication (over VPN) with the database.
    Is there any parameter for listener like "Keep alive" or else, which can rebuild the connection once it lost?
    Best regards

    Paste this into the SQLNET.ORA on the application server or the server that is making the SQL calls to the database.
    Trace_level_client=16
    Trace_directory_client=<path_to_the_trace_directory> # use the full path to the trace directory
    Trace_unique_client=on
    Trace_timestamp_client=on
    Then review the trace or you can try the keep alive in windows
    Use the standard TCP KeepAlive on Windows
    1. Open the registry under:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE: SYSTEM: CurrentControlSet: Services: Tcpip:
    Parameters
    2. Add KeepAliveTime : REG_DWORD to the registry
    3. Set the value to a reasonable timeout.(decimal and NOT Hex) Like 480000 equals 8 minutes or 120000 equals 2 minutes etc etc.
    - Save this
    - Reboot

  • REP-0826: Invalid printer driver 'dflt' specified by parameter DESFORMA

    We are using Developer 6. We had .PS Reports that printed fine till yesterday. Since this morning, we are getting the following error:
    REP-0826: Invalid printer driver 'dflt' specified by parameter DESFORMAT.
    What could be wrong?

    Hi,
    restart the reports process.
    If this doesn´t help restart the whole machine including the whole operating system.
    We do relativly often have this problem that the Oracle Reports processes function a long time (over months and more) without problems and then suddenly something does not work anmymore.
    Simply restart the whole machine and in most cases everything will work again.
