TNS-12505: host_addr changed in log.xml

After successfully installing Oracle 11g with Enterprise Manager on a Windows XP VMWare guest (don't ask), I copied the whole VMWare-Machine and started it on another Host-Machine as well.
However the listener on the second machine does not know about my instance-SID anymore. Investigating the logs, the only difference I could find (and think of) is this:
Messages before were from host_addr='127.0.0.1' while after copying/running the VM they originated from host_addr='192.168.0.170'.
Right now I'm not in the position to investigate the problem hands-on, so I just wanted to ask if this could indeed cause the instance to fail registering with the listener (and thus throw the TNS-12505 when someone wanted to connect to it).
Thanks in advance for this great forum,
Jojo

  • TNS-12505 in listener.log when opening SqlDeveloper 2.1 (maybe a bug?)

    Hi I've a strange problem:
    1 download sqldevloper
2 create a connection using Connection type= TNS. Is select an entry in my tnsnames.ora to connect to an istance X (service_name is specified) on server Y. The first strange thing is that every entry in the tnsnames is displayed two times.
3 If I test the connection it works..
    4 Close sqldeveloper
5 When I open sqldeveloper (just open the program without connect to anything) i receive no errors but i see in my listener.log (of the server Y) :
    04-DIC-2009 11:39:31 * (CONNECT_DATA=(SID=null)(CID=(PROGRAM=)(HOST=__jdbc__)(USER=null))) * (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=192.168.8.105)(PORT=2285)) * establish * null * 12505
TNS-12505: TNS: il listener non ha risolto SID indicato nel descrittore di connessione
    192.168.8.105 is my ip address
I don't understand why it uses SID= instead of SERVICE_NAME=
If i place the mouse cursor over the connection icon (without click) i see an error TNS-1252 with the connection desripter: Y, 1521,NULL (i think that this null is causing all this problems) .
Why? When sqldeveloper opens it tries to test the connection?
Even if it is like this the connection should work: if I try to connect whit that connection everything works fine.
I do something worng? It is a bug?
With SqlDeveloper 1.5 everything works fine. Everything is the same so I guess that is a problem of the new version (2.1).
Oracle client oracle 10.2, SqlDeveloper Version 2.1.0.63, Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
Hope someone can help me, if something isn't clear I can post more details (just tell me what you need).
    Thanks, best regards.
    Adriano Aristarco

    Hi Adriano,
    "network alias"
A network alias that has been found by SQLDeveloper java (as opposed to the jdbc driver) in tnsnames.*.
    "connect identifier"
Uses oci 'thick' driver i.e. oracle C code find the tnsnames entry for you - requires additional Oracle client side software such as instant client. Without the additional software you get 'no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path'
Do you have multiple entries due to multiple tnsname.* files (move the inappropriate tnsname.* to a different backup directory). If you picked the 'wrong one' i.e. one with the right name but from an old tnsnames.* file, it might not be able to connect so you get error messages.
You cannot use "connect identifier" unless you have the additional Oracle client side software (I can test the latest instant client to confirm that works if you want to try this option, I do not have the version numbers for this in easy reach).

           umask [-p] [-S] [mode]
The  user  file-creation mask is set to mode.  If mode begins with a digit, it is interpreted as an octal
number; otherwise it is interpreted as a symbolic mode mask similar to that  accepted  by  chmod(1).   If
mode  is  omitted, the current value of the mask is printed.  The -S option causes the mask to be printed
in symbolic form; the default output is an octal number.  If the -p option is supplied, and mode is omit-
ted,  the  output  is in a form that may be reused as input.  The return status is 0 if the mode was suc-
cessfully changed or if no mode argument was supplied, and false otherwise.

  • After Making Changes In Log4j.xml Application Needs Recompilation?

    Hello,
I am using log4j in my jsp pages and for that I instantiating Logger class like this
    Logger logger = Logger.getLogger("test.jsp");
    {code}
And I have log4j.xml in the classpath.
I believe, priority levels can be changed and log level can be changed without re-compiling.
Change the log4j.xml and re-run jsp pages.
However I need to re-compile after making changes in log4j.xml file. Without re-compilation changes are not getting reflected.
Why I need to re-compile application in order to see the changes I have made in log4j.xml?
Appreciate any help in this regard.

  • Change opmn log level

how to change opmn log level in OAS 10.1.3.3. I want to set it to debug level.
    Thanks
    AB

Thanks, I looked at the following section but still not sure what exactly to change in opmn.xml
2.2 There used to be a level attribute in the <log-file> tag that I don’t find anymore. How do I define log levels?
In 10.1.3.1.0, logging is configured by component codes rather than level codes. The logging messages contain the literal value based on logging levels rather than an integer value; for example: none, fatal, error, warn, notify, debug1, debug2, debug3, and debug4.
All OPMN log messages of non-debug type (none, fatal, error, warn and notify) for the ONS and PM components go in opmn.log file. If debugging is enabled, then all OPMN debug log messages (of type debug1, debug2, debug3 and debug4) are written into opmn.dbg file.
You can configure the following component codes for logged events for both log and debug:
    • internal: a log for the common internal information for OPMN
    • ons: a log for the ONS component information for OPMN
    • pm: a log for the PM component information for OPMN
Both the ons and pm components consist of subcomponents that can also be configured. Refer to the Oracle Process Manager and Notification Server Administrator’s Guide 10g Release 3 (10.1.3.1.0) for the list of ons and pm subcomponents.
    I looked at http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25221_04/core.1013/b15976/common.htm#g1044967
    and there is a section
    <debug>
    Required: false
    Default: see attributes
    Parents: <opmn>
    Attributes: path, comp, rotation-size, rotation-hour
Can you tell me an example how i can set it?

  • High redo, log.xml and alert log generation with streams

    Hi,
We have a setup where streams and messaging gateway is implemented on Oracle 11.1.0.7 to replicated the changes.
Until recently there was no issue with the setup but for last few days there is an excessive amount of redo and log.xml and alert log generation, which takes up about 50gb for archive log and 20 gb for the rest of the files.
For now we have disabled the streams.
Please suggest the possible reasons for this issue.
    Regards,
    Ankit

Obviously, as no one here has access to the two files with error messages, log.xml and alert log, the resolution starts with looking into those files
and you should have posted this question only after doing this.
    Now no help is possible.

  • Change access log format

    Hi everybody
I want to change the access log format of Sun Java Application Server 8.1 2005 Q2...
I want to include session id information in it ...so i changed the log format using the admin console gui Configuration->httpservice->Access logs...
The domain.xml file reflected the change as....
    <access-log format="%client.name% %auth-user-name% %datetime% %request% %status% %response.length%" rotation-enabled="true" rotation-interval-in-minutes="1440" rotation-policy="time" rotation-suffix="%YYYY;%MM;%DD;-%hh;h%mm;m%ss;s" />
    to
    <access-log format="%client.name% %auth-user-name% %datetime% %request% %status% %response.length% %cookie.value%" rotation-enabled="true" rotation-interval-in-minutes="1440" rotation-policy="time" rotation-suffix="%YYYY;%MM;%DD;-%hh;h%mm;m%ss;s" />
But even after i restarted my server, the logs are getting stored in the default format itself....
Am i missing some step....can somebody tell me the detailed procedure....

It is a bug(see 6352797) fixed in Patch 07. You should get your appserver patched with one of the following, depending on platform/installation:
    Packaged based:119166-14, 119167-14, 119168-14
    File based:
    EE: 119169-06, 119170-06, 119171-06
    PE: 119173-06, 119174-06, 119175-06, 119176-06

I have bought an used Iphone 5. I dont have the password for the existing login id of the old owner. How do i use the phone and change the log in id?

Unfortunatly the only way that you can get it off is to get the old user to input the password.  You may need to contact that old user and see if he can put the old password in.  hope this helps.

  • SAP DB  changing the Log mode to the "Owerwrite mode is ON"

    Hi!
I would like to know, which consequences do I have, changing the Log mode to the "Owerwrite mode is ON".
Is that comparable with Oracle's archive mode?
What should I note proccessing so (e.g. to make back up)
I don't use the system in productive mode and would like to save/spare free space on my server....
    Thank you very much!
    regards
    Axel

    Hi Marcus,
once again to clarify: I know it from oracle: Is it right that , If I activate in SAP DB "Owerwrite mode is. ON" no new logfiles will be created.
Only the existing logfiles will be overwrtiten.
It means I "save" space, because no new log files a 4,5 GB will be created, is not?
I am not familiar with SAP DB.
How should I proceed with Backup (online, offlne)?
    Thank you
    regards

  • Out of memory detected in log.xml

    Hi,
Our db version is 11.1.0.7.0 and in log.xml we see out of memory error like this
Out of memory detected in /u01/app/oracle/admin/diag/rdbms/ABCD/alert/log.xml at time/line number: Tue Feb 15 03:09:11 2011/54933.
    Alert log file looks ok.
    How to prevent this?

You need to provide more information than that. I presume you got this from the OEM alert.
Try looking in /u01/app/oracle/admin/diag/rdbms/ABCD/ABCD/trace/alert_ABCD.log and look at any entries for February 15th. That might point you in the right direction.

  • How to change redo log size in oracle 10g

    Hi Experts,
Can anybody confirm how to change redo log size in oracle 10g?
    Amit

    Dear Amit,
You can enlarge the size of existing Online Redo log files, by adding new groups with different size of files (origlog$/mirrlog$) and then carefully droping the old groups with  their associated inactive files.
Please refer SAP Note 309526 - Enlarging redo log files to perform the activity.
    Steps to perform:
STEP-1. Analyze the exisiting situation and prepare an action plan.
    A. You have to ensure that no more than one log switch per minute occurs during peak times.
It may also be necessary to increase the size of the online redo logs until they are large enough.
Too many log switches lead to too many checkpoints, which in turn lead to a high writing load in the I/O subsystem.
    Use ST04 -> Additional Functions --> Display GV$-Views
    There you can select
Gv$LOG_HISTORY --->for determing your existing LOG switching frequency.
    GV$LOG -
    > list the status(INACTIVE/CURRENT/ACTIVE) /size/sequence no. of existing online redolog files
GV$LOGFILE  --- > list the information of existing online  redolog files with their storage paths
You can document the existing situation of Online Redo Log Fiile management before going to enlarge Redo Log Files.
It will be helpful, if something goes wrong while performing activities.
    B. Based on above Situation analysis, Plan your New Redo Log Group and there Members with new optimal size.
    e.g.
Group No.         Redo Log File Locations  u201C/oracle/<SID>/u201D                  Size
                                 /origlogA                  /mirrlogA
    15                        log_g15m1.dbf         log_g15m2.dbf               100 MB
    17                        log_g17m1.dbf            log_g17m2.dbf               100 MB
                                /origlogB                    /mirrlogB
    16                       log_g16m1.dbf          log_g16m2.dbf            100 MB
