TNS-12541 : Why use default port 1521 ?

Hi,
I just upgraded my base from 10.2.0.5 to 11.2.0.2.
I followed all steps from the SAP Marketplace : Upgrade to Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2): UNIX
My database is upgraded and I need to perform post-upgrade tasks before updating my Client.
When I try to execute tnsping, i got this error :
Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION=(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=10.66.XX.XX)(PORT=1521)))
TNS-12541: TNS:no listener
I can't understand why he's trying to contact port 1521 while my tnsnames and listener.ora are :
TNSNAMES.ORA :

So why contact port 1521 insted of 1527 ? Did I forget a file to modify ?
Thanks

  • Risk & Security vulnerability for using default ports

    Dear All,
As far as I know, Oracle does not recommend to use default ports for
security purposes. Searching out of Oracle community found that some people
think that it does not matter any more. However, it can have some vulnerability
and, I think, security risk & auditors would not like to see that.
I have found that in 2012 ORacle Tns listener port 1521 had a vulnerability
issue with oracle database 11gR1 and 11gR2, but how about Oracle 12?.
Also, I was searching something similiar for Oracle OAM, SOA, OIM, OAAM, but still cannot
    find anything.
    Thanks

Do you happen to have such a storage peripheral attached to your M3000?
If yes, then it is probably reachable through the M3000's IP address. You will need to log a support ticket with HP and get guidance how to get into the array's FCAL controller and investigate the issue.
If you do not have an HP array attached to your M3000, then log a support case with Oracle and arrange for a field service engineer to visit the site to manipulate the password for its `admin` account (since that special account is likely needs service-employee-only access).
Either way, you need to get accurate technical support and this forum is NOT official tech-support.

  • DISPATCHER  : avoid change of  a default PORT 1521

I have configured DB 10.1.0.3 with SHARED SERVER .
If I connnected to the database (SERVER=SHARED), dispatcher would use
    non-default PORT as
    "D001" established:5 refused:0 current:4 max:972 state:ready
    DISPATCHER <machine: ............., pid: 19839>
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=..............)(PORT=35972))
I use my database behind the firewall in DMZ , so I want to use a default PORT 1521 with my dispatcher D0001.
There was an option "PORT" in a initialization parameter DISPATCHERS in previous DB versions. I cannot use this option in the database release 10.1.0.3.
    Help me?

I'm afraid you can't do that, at least with that version.
    See http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/A97329_03/core.902/a92171/concepts.htm#1016370
    Here an extract :
The metadata repository is always configured to use port 1521 and has a service name of the form iasdb.host.domain (for the first infrastructure on a host) and iasdbx.host.domain for any subsequent infrastructures on that host). You should never change these values.

  • How to use non default port 1521 while 11.2.0.1 grid upgrade to 11.2.0.2

    Hi Team ,
We are planning 11.2.0.1 Grid infra rolling upgrade to 11.2.0.2 with out any downtime.
But while up gradation due to default scan port 1521 , 11.2.0.1 databases are not able to connect (remote connections)
We are using 1900 port for existing 11.2.0.1 grid infra scan.
While up gradation it is taking default port of 1521 insted of existing port 1900.
Please provide the solution to use non default port while 11.2.0.2 up gradation.
After upgrade the status as below.
    grdoratst104:/apps/grid/grdhome:+ASM4> srvctl config scan_listener
SCAN Listener LISTENER_SCAN1 exists. Port: TCP:1521
SCAN Listener LISTENER_SCAN2 exists. Port: TCP:1521
SCAN Listener LISTENER_SCAN3 exists. Port: TCP:1521
Here I was getting TNS:no Listener errors from the client connections.
I have modifyed the scan port then it is working fine.
    grdoratst104:/apps/grid/grdhome:+ASM4> srvctl modify scan_listener -p TCP:1800
    grdoratst104:/apps/grid/grdhome:+ASM4> srvctl config scan_listener
SCAN Listener LISTENER_SCAN1 exists. Port: TCP:1800
SCAN Listener LISTENER_SCAN2 exists. Port: TCP:1800
SCAN Listener LISTENER_SCAN3 exists. Port: TCP:1800
    grdoratst104:/apps/grid/grdhome:+ASM4>
Here the problem is we need to do the grid infra upgrade with out downtime, but due this default port issue clients are not able to connect to the database.
    Thanks

Why are you using a non default port? It does not improve security. It makes network management more complex. And causes the type of issues that you are facing now.
So before changing defaults, make sure that your reasons are technically sound. And using port 1900 when 1521 is available, is not technically sound by any means.
As for addressing the problem you have created for yourself by mucking around with port numbers. Use a NAT firewall (on each RAC node) to rewrite packets headers received on port 1900 and send these to the server's port 1521 instead (on the VIP or static IP as required).
This can be fairly easily done using iptables if your o/s is Linux. You need to:
    a) create a pre-routing NAT rule
    b) create a post-routing NAT rule
    c) create a forwarding filter rule for port 1900/tcp
    d) create an input filter rule to accept traffic on 1900/tcp

  • To know which application is actually using the listner port 1521

    hello every one,
i have a small problem out here.
i have a test server(solaris)..have already installed development suite 10g on it as well as installed weblogic on it.
right now according to requirement i have to install application server 10g on it for load balancing.
but while installing i got an error that states as follows "install has detected that port 1521 on your host is currentlybeing used by other product....."
i have not installed any database in this server..
Tried to find out whether 1521 port is actually listening using the below command
    netstat -an|grep 1521
    *.1521 *.* 0 0 49152 0 LISTEN
now i want answer for few questions
a)does weblogic has metadata repository like oracle 10g AS and does it listen 2 1521 port..(according to my knowledge it listens to 5556 port)are there any file like portlink.ini in weblogic as 10gAs??(these questions might be sounding lame but i m new to web logic)
b)i just wanted to know which application in my current scenario is using the port 1521 so that i can stop the services n den install oracle AS and once the installation is done i can restart the other application by changin its port no,so dat it can listen to other port..
c)Consider this scenario "If i dont stop any oracle application ie d2k and weblogic" and start installation..during installation itself can i make my application listen to some other port like 1522"..i have heard about staticport.ini but have not practically used so can u'all help me in this..
if there are any other solution about how to go about installation with out stoppin any oracle services then please let me know..
    thanking you,

    Hello Fabian,
You can use lsof to find out which process has allocated port 1521 :
    lsof -i TCP:1521
Most likely it is a TNS listener process.
    Thanks,

Don't know which platform you are running this, but assume from the path that it is some flavour of UNIX.
    Try the following:
    ps -ef |grep lsn
If there are any listeners running, then you will get output along the lines of:
    oracle 25562 1 0 Feb 14 ? 1227:32 /oracle/product/10.2/bin/tnssnr listener_10_2 -inherit
    oracle 25555 1 0 Feb 14 ? 0:05 /oracle/product/10g/bin/tnslsnr listener_10g -inherit
If there are appropriate listeners running, check whether there is a listener entry for the database you are interested in, by running oraenv to set to a database using the correct version of oracle and then run:
    lsnrctl status <listener_name>
If the listener is just called LISTENER you can omit the name.
If the database you are interested in is not represented, then it needs to be added.
If there are no listeners running - check the listener config, to see if it has a name other than the default:
run oraenv to set to a database using the correct version of oracle
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/network/listener
    vi listener.ora.
Check the name of the listener and whether the database you are interested in is included in the file (unless you use the local listener parameter or the default port 1521)
try to start the listener by running
    lsnrctl start <listener_name>

  • IdM doesn't support non-default port on mysql 4.1 as repository??

    Hi
IdM doesn't support non-default port on mysql 4.1 as repository??
    IdM version is 6.0.
    I setup mysql 4.1 using non-default port 3307.
    (default port is 3306)
    During setup wizard,
    the URL [jdbc:mysql://localhost:3307/waveset] doesn't work.
    I am getting following error.
    com.waveset.util.InternalError:
         ==> com.waveset.util.ConfigurationError:
==> com.mysql.jdbc.CommunicationsException: Communications link failure due to underlying exception:
    Of cource,
    the URL [jdbc:mysql://localhost/waveset] works well
when I setup mysql using default port.

    Hi,
it does work with non standard ports but whatever port you specify it will always try to connect to the default port before actually changing the repo setting.
Therefore use the switches -n -o $WSHOME/WEB-INF/ServerRepository.xml to write the new configuration without performing the broken checks.

  • SSL Replication - why supplier using regular port?

My consumer is using the default SSL port 636, but the supplier port is
fixed with 390. I am using regular port 390. Is that mean referrals are
made over non-SSL(regular) port, and only replications done over SSL? I
would like all communications between the consumer and the supplier to be
    over SSL.
There is an optional item under "Replica Settings" where I could specify
URLs for write operations for referral, but it would not accept
ldaps://myhost:636. It would take ldap://myhost:636. The iPlanet doc said
that if I specify ldaps:// then referrals would be done over SSL not over
regular port. What am I doing wrong?
Also, the iPlanet doc said I must not use the same port number for regular
and SSL. But did not explain why. We are thinking of using only SSL port.
So the question came up - so why not just disable the regular port?
    Thanks in advance,
    Choi

What does this mean: bad database? Is the database corrupt or are there

Both Servers (supplier and consumer) are running with SSL enabled and I
can connect to both via ldaps. Replication over an unencrypted line is
    working as well.

  • RAC interconnect using UDP - default ports?

Is there a default port used by each cluster member to listen for connections over UDP? We use IPTABLES firewalls on our hosts, and I need to ensure the cluster heartbeat traffic gets through the firewall properly.

..snipped..I would not be concerned about what ports are in use. The important decisions are do you use bonding for the Interconnect, do you use jumbo or super-jumbo frames (MTU sizes), and so on. The actual ports being used has no real bearing as firewalling is not applicable.

    Because line-in has been removed.
It does allow for an Apple headset with mic., but I don't know if it would work with third-party ones.
You'll need to use a Griffin iMic or similar to use line-in via a USB port.
The same goes for the 15" retina, the newest MBA and the new iMac (whenever it finally arrives).

Why is my iphone 5 not using default ring tone even though it is set for my personal tone in defaults!!

    Hello Rob,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. You may have a contact that has a different ringtone assigned to it. Just navigate to the contact and see what ringtone is assigned to them.
    iPhone: Ringtones

    Setting Ringtones
In addition to the default ringtone, you can assign individual ringtones to people in your contacts so that you can tell when a particular person calls.
Alternatively you can reset all settings in Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. This would put your iPhone at factory default on everything settings wise and it does not touch the data on the phone

  • Why use 1Gbps fiber port over a 1Gbps Ethernet port?

Say I have two switches and I want to connect them together. Both are capable of 1Gbps speeds and both are Layer 2 only switches. And no VLAN setup either. I install an SFP 1 Gigabit interface transceiver on both switches. Since the switch is already 1 Gbps capable, what benefits do I gain by connecting both switches together via SFP using fiber optic vs connecting them together via any port using a cat6 cable?
Also, if I install two SFP 1 Gigabit interface transceiver on each switch and connect them together, does that then give me 2 Gbps on each side?
    Thank you. Best regards,
    Alex

    Alex
    Things to consider -
    1) distance between the switches is a key one and this may dictate what you can use eg. in buildings cable drops between the floors can often exceed the maximum distance of copper.
    2) cost - copper is a lot cheaper
    3) copper can be more susceptible to electromagnetic interference
In addition the uplink ports on switches usually run at wirespeed where the standard ports may or may not.
All that said if everything was equal then yes you could use copper ports to interconnect your switches.
If you installed two connections one of the links would block on a per vlan basis, assuming you were running an STP variant of PVST.
If you wanted them both to pass traffic then you can make an etherchannel which is a logical link containing a bundle of physical links.
STP sees the etherchannel as one link so it can use both physical links.
This does not necessarily give you 2Gbps though. It's to do with how the switch load balances traffic across the links and it's a bit complicated but a quick example -
a client is sending 1.5Gbps to a server. Because the client's mac address/IP address and the servers mac address/IP address remain the same the switch will only use one of the links ie. it will not spread the traffic across both links.
two clients are each sending 750Mbps to a server. Because the clients are different in terms of mac/IP then the switch could put each clients traffic on a different link as long as you were load balancing on source mac or IP address.
Note that on some switches it is not just the mac address/IP address that can be used to select a link.
I was just keeping the example relatively simple.

  • Change default port used for FlexUnit reports

    Good day,
I have recently set up a CruiseControl server that runs two concurrent builds. Most of these builds contain FlexUnit tests. I am well aware that the default port for FlexUnit task is 1024 and I know that only one listener can access the port at one time. I tried passing a different port number but the flexunit task hangs. So, I was wondering if anyone has tried changing the default port to something other than 1024.
