Tns listener failed
I have created TNS listener which will listen to local database and that i have used in DAD(i have used empty dad).when i am using that dad to access psp from the database it is giving error like TNS unable to connect.can any body help me out in this regard please
Ok, You need to do some risky thing. You need to delete one entry in Windows' registry tables.
Here is the key.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\ORACLEORAHOME81TNSLISTENER]
You need to drop this key and all its associated values.
BE CAREFUL, deleted the wrong key in registry may crash your system. I'm not held liable for this.
Good luck,
Steve

'ORA-12500: TNS: Listener failed to start a dedicated server process'
Hi,
While connecting from one database to another users are getting the below error when they are giving a select statement, its taking around 30 minutes and showing
'ORA-12500: TNS: Listener failed to start a dedicated server process'...
What could be the issue...
Thanks,
Kr.If database to which they are trying to connect is running, then check listener.log ($ORACLE_HOME/network/log).
Probably there is not enough system resources - check opsystem logs as well (on unix /var/log or /var/adm) on windows look at events.
Look into db alert.log as well. -

When connecting to Oracle I am getting this error. I have restarted the database, restarted the listener, but the problem does not go away. I have increased the processes to 400.

hi all,
I have a problem with the following configuration oracle 9.2.0.1 (32bits) on Win server 2003 - enterprise x64 edition - 10GM of RAM.
I installed DB without problem, run server, started listener - seems all is fine. But when trying a remote connection, "listener failed to start a dedicated server process"

1. Increase the amount of memory available to the system
either by removing unnecessary processes or increasing
the amount of physical memory.
2. Increasing the amount of swap space will also
temporarily help relieve the symptoms.
3. Disable OTRACE. OTRACE is a tracing feature that can
cause many problems. OTRACE is enabled by default.
To disable OTRACE:
a. Stop the Oracle database.
b. Go to the orant/otrace/admin directory.
c. Delete all files with a .dat extension.
d. Restart the Oracle database.

ERROR:ORA-12500: TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process
I'm getting this error when connecting to an 8i database. The setup was like this: I had an Oracle 8i database on this server and i installed Grid Control on this server which also created a listener.
From Metalink, I saw the following note: A version 10 listener is required for an Oracle Database 10g database. Previous versions of the listener are not supported for use with an Oracle Database 10g database. However, it is possible to use a version 10 listener with previous versions of the Oracle database.
So I deleted the 8i listener and set up the 10g listener to service the 8i database as well. However, every time I connect to this 8i database, I see the listener refusing the connection. Anything I can do here?
Thanks.I probably have posted this earlier,
please configure the listener static.
In other words, ensure that 8i registers with 8i listener and 10g registers with 10g listener.
c:\blah\blah\8i\.\lsnrctl start listener8i
c:\blah\blah\10g\.\lsnrctl start listener10g

TNS Listener Problem in 8.1.6
Hi,
While trying to connect to Oracle 8.1.6 , installed on local machine (OS Windows NT 4.0), using Oracle's thin JDBC drivers I get the following error :
TNS-12500: TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process
TNS-12537: TNS:connection closed
My database is running in dedicated mode on the same PC where I am executing this JAVA program.
Any pointer. Any Help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks.
King.According to Oracle Error Message, action for TNS-12500 is that Check the Listener.ORA is properly been set with the Oracle Environment if not make it and stop and start the Oracle and Listener too. If we faced and we did the above and it was working perfect.

Hi Folks
Application cloning is failing with "ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect"
Database cloning is completed successfuly . database cloned in two nodes node1 and node2
Now cloning applicatino tier with above cloned database nodes but faicing above issue .
ThanksThere are many reasons why an ORA-12505 might be raised at applications cloning. For anyone on this board to assist, you will have to post the log file detail or list the clone execution file which raises this exception.
Thanks,

Failsafe listener fail TNS-12532
Have upgraded Oracle from 9.2.0.4 to 9.2.0.8 on a microsft clustered system . The database will not start on one of the two servers in cluster , with a failsafe listener fail of TNS-12532 - TNS:Invalid argument .
The listerner.ora has not been changed for 5 years and is exactly the same on each of the two servers in the cluster . Oracle starts properly on th other server .
Any ideas or directions to go .invalid parameter in listerner.or on one side . 9.2.0.4 overlooked the error, 9.2.0.8 fails though does not report line in error . commented out the invalid argument and all started ok

My guess is that the database service "HCM" is not up and running but not sure how to make up and running. Even I could not find it listed in the linux services list.
Note: Able to login sqlplus using "sqlplus sys/sys as sysdba" but failing to access database table as "select * from PSRECDEFN;"

I have no luck and the error still persists.
I have set the "export ORACLE_SID=HCM" from root user and oracle user too.
I guess, I have already loaded database when I ran the "cd /opt/oracle/psft/vm

TNS Listener: Entry Point Not Found
First I installed 8.1.6 Personal edition
on my laptop (NT4 SP5):
Folder: d:\orant.
Oracle Home: DEFAULT_HOME
That went fine. I could connect to the database with SQLPLUS, DBA etc.
Then I tried to install Portal using:
Folder: d:\9iAS
Oracle Home: iSuites
Spent three days trying to get Portal to install ok. Have finally got through the installation of 9iAS (HTTP Server Only), which the Universal Installer claims to be successfull.
Started the Apache Server and tried to connect to the portal. I get the following error message:
Proxy log On failed.
Please verify that you have specified correct connectivity information i.e.username, password & connect-string in the Database Access Descriptor

Verify that the TNS name in the connectstring entry of the DAD for this URL is valid.
I can access the admin page:

To debug this I tried to connect to the database with SQLPLUS and I got this error message:

I have tried swicthing my primary Oracle Home using the Home Selector. Did not help.
Shouldn't the TNS listener be started, or?
Any ideas what to check?I have found the solution of my problem from Oracle9i Portal's Configuration Guide , the troubleshooting part. The document can be found in the Oralce9i Documentation web site.
The problem is that I set the incorrect information in my tnsnames.ora file when installing Oracle9i Portal.
The solution is set the host name, port number and SID in the tnsnames.ora file. This file is located at
\Oracle_Home\network\admin\
Here is the example of the content in that file:

TNS-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
there was a entry in /etc/hosts which was directing primary.swapnilkambli.com to 127.0.01
This was because I created this OS from a Virtual box template wherein that entry was made.
I changed the /etc/hosts to refelct the true address and it worked!! -

I created Stby DB with the minimum parameters required, so that I configure BROKER and see it magic, but badly stuck in this situation here. I have read many docs related to this..but can not fix it unfortunately.
Please guide me from your own experience as note ids, blogs are not helping me here...
Bundle of thanks.
Best RegardsHi,
Your listener.ora file has SERVICE_NAME = dg_db2.domain whereas tnsnames.ora file has SERVICE_NAME = dg_db2.
Check in your database for exact service name and reflect the same in both the files.
SQL> sho parameter service_names
Restart the listener and try connecting.
Thank you!! -
ORA-12504 tns listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT-DATA
Hi
i installed a fresh oracle linux and installes 11.2.0 database server. the server works fine but i have a proplem to connect to the database from a windows 2008 r2
client. For the client connection i installed the oracle instantclient on the windows system. Now i want to configure the system dsn to connect to the oracle
server like this
data source description: vSphere 64
description: ----
TNS Service Name: VCDB
user id: system
then i go to TEST connection
Service Name: VCDB
user name: system
Password: mypassword
so i copied the tnsnames.ora from the server to the client
then i get
ora-12504 tns listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT-DATA
here´s my tnsnames.ora from the client
VCDB =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 172.31.98.173)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = vcdb.vmware)
i tested serveral config´s but nothing works. I can ping the server and also i cn telnet the server on port 1521. The listener on the server works fine

but it´s not possible to create a connection to the server. My enviroment variables are this

ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1
ORACLE_HOSTNAME=vc-db1.mydomain
ORACLE_SID=vcdb
ORACLE_TERM=xterm
so i think on the server site everything is correct. How could i establish a connection from the windows client
to the linux database server. Or is ODBC the wrong method for this?
Kind regards
ACID25Hi,
Check the listener log and see if the connection information is logged (in this case with error)
If logged, then we are reaching the correct listener.
Then check tnsping VCDB works fine along with sqlplus connection through listener using VCDB as connect string.
If above both works, then issue can be isolated to ODBC configuration or setup issue.
In case even if the tnsping / sqlplus is failing to connect with VCDB, then worth taking a client sqlent trace at level 16 and listener trace at level 16 to analyse the issue further.
Thanks,
Sathya
