TNSPING - ORA-12532 Error
I've just installed Oracle 11g on red hat and it works as locally. I can connect sqlplus from local without any error. But i can not connect this pc from remote?
Remote machine can connect via telnet, ssh to local machine. There is no problem.
lsnrctl status gives successfull messages that are as follow:

As you seen there is no problem about listener. But when i run "tnsping 10.10.5.61" from remote machine i am getting "ORA-12532 Invalid Argument" error. What the cause of this error? Could you explain me? How can i fix tihs?
Thanks for responses.
I think that firewall block 1521 port. ( on remote computer i am trying : telnet localhost 1521, that didnt answer ). I could try to enable this port by typing ( in RedHat Linux 5.0 ):
semanage port -a -t oracle_port -p tcp 1521
but, i got an error like this :
libsepol.context_from_record: type oracle_port is not defined
libsepol.context_from_record: could not create context structure
libsepol.port_from_record: could not create port structure for range 1521:1521 (tcp)
libsepol.sepol_port_modify: could not load port range 1521 - 1521 (tcp)
libsemanage.dbase_policydb_modify: could not modify record value
libsemanage.semanage_base_merge_components: could not merge local modifications into policy
/usr/sbin/semanage: Could not add port tcp/1521
I guess the name "oracle_port" was wrong but i couldnt decide to what name was proper to that. Can you help me?
Thanks.

TNS Ora-12532 error When connecting with Db11 running in the VM
I created a virtual machine from the PVM Entrerprise Linux 5 64 bits and db11g.
Inside the virtual Machine the sqlplus system/manager1@VDB11 is working well.
The tnsping 172.20.0.33 is working well too.
But from the other external machine using oracle 11g client these command are not working: Tns Ora-12532 error.
What to do?
Thanksmy virtual machine: vm1 have an static ip address 172.20.0.33
the oracle listener is was configured with the same ip
in the virtual machine : vm1 the /etc/hosts file content is:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain
172.20.0.33 virtualdb11
in the tnsnames.ora file in the virtual machine i have a service:
VDB11 ...( host=172.20.0.33) (port=1521)
under console connection with my virtual machine vm1 the command : sqlplus system/manager1@VDB11 is working well
but when i working in an other external machine , where the tnsnames.ora have an entry:
VDB11 ...(host=172.20.0.33)......
the ping command : ping 172.20.0.33 is working well
but sqlplus system/manager1@VDB11 is not work and return the error:

ORA-12535 error but TNSPing Works and listener logs connection
We recently migrated our firewall and then started seeing this problem for users outside of our own subnet. However, although the user gets this error when launching the application, the workstation is able to TNSPing the server successfully and listener.log does log the connection.
I was hoping someone might have some ideas or suggestions as to what might be causing the error despite the apparent connectivity to the database.
Thanks in advance.Thanks so much for the suggestions.
1. telnet <host> 1521 connects
2. sqlplus <username>/<pwd>@<instance> returns the ORA-12535 error
Finally, the sqlnet.log on the client side doesn't log anything when launching the application so I have no information as to what exactly is occurring at that point. However, the sqlplus command above logged the following:
VERSION INFORMATION:

I've been doing more research on this -- please note that I'm not an Oracle dba so I am just getting familiar with lots of things -- and have learned that user connect requests come in through 1521 but are then randomly redirected to other ports. Given the new firewall, I'm wondering if it's an issue that the random ports being selected aren't open for the users outside of our subnet. Does this sound like a plausible explanation? If so, how do administrators generally handle this -- by opening the necessary ports on the firewall? Is there some other standard approach?
Again, thanks so much for any assistance you can provide. -

ORA-12514 Error in remote office
I installed and created a 10g (rel2) database while connected to my office's network. Because my company uses DHCP I had to create a loopback connector and give it a fixed IP address. Everything went as expected.
Now I've travelled to a remote location and, even though the Oracle instance is on my laptop, I'm getting an ORA-12514 error (TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect string). I'm using Windows XP Pro and this is what I get from doing a lsnrctl status:

As you can see, it isn't creating a service for anything other than the EXTPROC entry. I tried doing a TNSPING on the SID (LAKOTA) and got this:
TNS Ping Utility for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.1.0.4.2 - Production on 14-JAN-2

OK (40 msec)
So now I'm stumped. I've tried stopping and starting the listener, but nothing changed. Is it because I'm physically connected to a different network than when I installed the software and created the database? If that's the case, is there a work-around because I'm going to be travelling a LOT more than I'm going to be in the home office and I need access to my oracle instance no matter where I am or what backbone I'm connected to. Any and all assistance gratefully appreciated.
Leigh SmithYou are trying to connect to a service named: lakota.cgifederal.com but from the output of the listener status it can be seen that the instance has not yet been registered against the listener. Your listener is at 1521 port, this means that can be self registered against it. Just make sure your instance is started.
There is a command to force instance registration, it is from the sql command prompt connected with either sys or system issue: alter system register Automatic instance registration should take less than a minute, if after the time has expired and issuing the command don't work, then if required, instead of relying on automatic instance registration, you can change it to be manually configured. You can do this from the network manager.

ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
Dear all,
This question has been asked many times in this forum, and I have gone to many threads in this forum, but unfortunately i failed.
I want to connect to MySQL database from oracle. I have the following configurations.
Oracle database enterprise edition 12c (12.1.0.2.0) 64bit on Windows server 2012 64bit
i have MySQL 5.6.11 on windows 7 64bit
i have downloaded ODBC driver from oracle delivery site (MySQL Connector/ODBC 5.3.4 MSI for Windows x86 (64bit))
i install the ODBC on my oracle server, a full installation which install the Unicode and Ansi versions both.
i create ODBC connection for Unicode by going to Control Panel-->Administrator Tools-->ODBC Data Sources (64-bit)-->System DSN. i test it and the test was successful.
i configure my Listner.ora, Tnsname.ora and initmysql.ora files as below;

Ora 12154 error when trying to add a database to VS Server Explorer
Hi Everyone,
I get the Ora 12154 error when trying to add a database to VS Server Explorer.
How do I get around this problem.
The database service is running and I can connect to the database with pl/sql.
I can also tnsping the database and that is also ok.
Looks like a problem with the odp.net software.
I am running the 32 bit Oracle 11g on a Windows7 Home Premium 64 bit PC.
I am new to this stuff so please help me step by step.
Thanks.
EmadHi J. B.
I have a question related to this. After you told me about the //host:1521/database alias I tried it in a VB 2008 program and it worked and returned data. At least I know that it can be used in a VB program without issues. I just now need to be able to add a connection with the Server Explorer.
Anyway here is the VB coding I used. I'm new to this and still learning:
Imports Oracle.DataAccess.Client ' Visual Basic ODP.NET Oracle managed provider
Public Class Form1
' String to connect to the database.
Dim strConnectionString As String = _
"Data Source=//emad-pc:1521/emadeva;User ID=scott;Password=tiger;" '
' Associate the connection string with a connection object.
Dim objOracleConnection As New OracleConnection(strConnectionString)
' SQL query for returning data rows.
Dim strSqlQuery As String = _
"Select dname, deptno " & _
"From dept " & _
"Where deptno = 10" '
' Command object to make this query work.
Dim objOracleCommand As New OracleCommand(strSqlQuery, objOracleConnection)
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
' Identify what type of command is being used.
objOracleCommand.CommandType = CommandType.Text
Try
objOracleConnection.Open()
' Set up a Data Reader and load it with data.
Dim objOracleDataReader As OracleDataReader = _
objOracleCommand.ExecuteReader()
objOracleDataReader.Read()
' Convert the department number to a string.
lblDepartmentNumberFromOracle.Text = _
CStr(objOracleDataReader.Item("deptno"))
Catch ex As Exception
MessageBox.Show(ex.Message, "Error")
End Try
End Sub
End Class
I still want to thank you for the help you are providing.
Truly,

ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent error
Hi,
I've to setup the Oracle Gateway service in order to access the SQL Server 2005 db from Oracle11g 11.1.0.7.0 db which is running on a LINUX os.
Basically, i've to periodically PULL data from SQL Server to oracle.
Have done the necessary setup as specified in Oracle docs.
1. Oracle ini file: initdg4msql.ora

3. tnsnames.ora entry
dg4msql =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = tcp)(HOST = oracle.portal.internal)(PORT = 1522))
(CONNECT_DATA =(SID = dg4msql))
(HS = OK)
4. Create database link on oracle
create public database link sqlserver connect to "sqlserver_user_id" identified by "sqlserver_user_password" using 'dg4msql';
Database link created.
Upon the completion of the configuration, I did the following and all are successful and working:
- starting the listener by
lsnrctl start LISTENER_GATEWAY
- tnsping my gateway
tnsping dg4msql
However, when I tried to retreive data and got the following error:

I have stepped through the doc of "How to Setup DG4MSQL (Oracle Database Gateway for MS SQL Server) Release 11" but unable to figure out where the error lies.
Any inputs on this?? please help, I am in urgent.Hi Mike,
As suggested, I have tried both formats with the spaces at the front. When I tried to start the listener, still get the error as show below:
Starting /app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1/bin/tnslsnr: please wait...
TNSLSNR for Linux: Version 11.1.0.7.0 - Production

NL-00305: the specified path name does not exist
As answers to your points -
- you have the HOST defined as -
(HOST = oracle.portal.internal)
is this the actual host name or did you change it to hide it in the post ?
*** It is just a mark up host for security reason
- what happens if you use the IP address instead of the hostname ?
*** Have tried the IP address but same error
- is the gateway installed in the directory /app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1 ?
*** Yes
- can you set up listener level 16 tracing and check the trace file for further information about the errors ? Add this to the listener.ora file -
trace_level_listener=16
and start the listener.
*** Have added the trace level 16 and tried to start the listener but same error. Please refer the snapshot from the log.xml. Please note that the host_id "oracle" is just a make-up.

- I have repeated the same steps above by changing the SID_LIST_LISTENER_GATEWAY back to SID_LIST_LISTENER parameter in LISTENER.ORA

Ora-12560 error with 8.1.7 under win2k
I have installed 8.1.7. on windows 2ooo. The install went
successfully and immediately after the install i could connect
with scott/tiger.
After a short period of time I can no longer connect and receive
the ora-12560 error. The system has not been rebooted or even
touched during this time period. I have removed the database
with dbassist and recreated. Again it works for 5 mins and
stops.
When I look at tsnrctl status all looks great. Under services
the tnslistener is working properly. I can do a tnsping as well.
I just cannot connect to the database.
Please help!

Dan Hoover An ORA-12560 WinNT is usually an indication that
the OS system/environment is not set up correctly.
You don't need a listener when you connect locallay without alias
name (sqlplus scott/tiger@alias).
Please try the following:
- start cmd box
- set ORACLE_HOME = <your home>
- set ORACLE_SID = <your SID>
- sqlplus scott/tiger

Once again - ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
I'm trying to connect to a SQL server 2012
I've make the ODBC connections (called MOFIBO2, MOFIBO3, MOFIBO4) and i've a succesfull connection to then SQL server.
The Oracle Database is:
Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
I've made 3 versions of the initdg4odbc.ora and they all look the same:
# This is a sample agent init file that contains the HS parameters that are
# needed for the Database Gateway for ODBC
# HS init parameters
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = MOFIBOx (MOFIBO2, MOFIBO3 and MOFIBO4)
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = off
# Environment variables required for the non-Oracle system
#set <envvar>=<value>
My lisener.ora look like this:
# listener.ora Network Configuration File: C:\app\Administrator\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\listener.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

And my mofibo part of then tnsnames.ora look like this (I've made three variants because different "manuals" uses different methods ):
MOFIBO2=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=resp-ora02)(PORT=1521))
(CONNECT_DATA=
(SID=MOFIBO2)

When tnsping to the three versions i get this:

I created three database link with then following (username and password was in wright case):

What is my mistake?Hi,
In the listener.ora you have the host as -
(HOST = resp-ora01)
but in the tnsnames.ora entries you have -
(HOST=resp-ora02)
The tnsnames.ora host must be the same as the listener host.
Unless you have a listener running on resp-ora02 it isn't clear why the tnsping returns a result.
Change the host in the tnsnames.ora and let us know what happens.

Mike -

Yes, probably they have been asked (e.g. ora-12514 error) and i already have googled it. But maybe i have a problem that i did not found already on google or on this forum. And maybe here i can get helpThis particular error is not arcane or difficult to debug. Did you read the link I gave you? There's really only 3 steps
on the client - tnsping - to see where the connection request is going and what service is being requested.
on the server - lsnrctl - to see what services the listener supports.
If the listener supports no services, the database needs to be register itself with the listener. -
Cannot connect: ORA-12505 error (listener does not know SID..)
I have an Oracle 10g installation insde a VM with private IP (192.168.109.128) and I'm trying to access it from the host operating system with aqua data studio, but get ORA-12505 error (listener does not currently know of SID...). The identical error occurs if I try to cennect from within the VM itself.

Waiting for help. What thing im missing.....Hi Naeem,
You have said the install setup is -
ORACLE_HOME = D:\Oracle\Product\11.2.0\dbhome
GATEWAY_HOME = D:\Oracle\Product\11.2.0\tg
but in the listener.ora you have set ORACLE_HOME for the gateway as -
(ORACLE_HOME = D:\Oracle\Product\11.2.0\dbhome)
To use DG4ODBC installed in the 'tg' ORACLE_HOME then you should configure a listener in the gateway OH -
D:\Oracle\Product\11.2.0\tg\network\admin
and start this listener. This listener will need to use a different port from the RDBMS listener in the other OH.
Change the gateway tnsnames.ora entry used by the RDBMS to reflect this port change.
One other point - SQL*Server is case sensitive so you may need to create the database link as -
create database link sqlserver connect to "uoracle" identified by "uoracle" using 'sqlserver';
if the user/password are defined in lower case in SQL*Server.
Also, the same for object names depending on the SQL*Server configuration -
select "column_name" from "owner"."table_name"@sqlserver ;

Mike
