To download first: J2SDK, J2EE,J2SE?

GOOD DAY ALL
I WANT TO WORK IN THE INTERNET APPLICATIONS FIELD WITH JAVA AND I NEED TO KNOW WHAT TO DOWNLOAD, AND IN WHAT ORDER.
I SUPPOSE THE SDK FIRST, AND THEN J2EE? DO I NEED J2SE AT ALL? IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD DOWNLOAD AS WELL?

well,
if you want to work with servlets and jsp, just download the j2se, and then download apache tomcat, read the tomcat documentation on how to set the classpath, or post if you're stuck and you'll have enough to start creating jsp and servlets to use in your web applications. if you want ejbs then download something like jboss along with the j2se, but start with servlets and jsp first.

J2EE & J2SE on Darwin

Hi. I'm new to the java technology and I'm a user of the Mac platform running Darwin.
Does J2EE/J2SE run on Darwin? As I want to learn development on this, but don't want to install Linux on the Mac.

OS X comes with 1.4.1 nowadays. I don't know whether
it relies solely on Darwin.Do you mean os x comes with J2EE 1.4 installed? The only development platform availabe are from Oracle or Apache Software Foundation, but I'm not sure that you can run a J2EE application server on os x?

the j2se 1.4 has all the core java classes and the j2ee stuff is all the enterprise edition stuff.
so the answer to your question is yes.

Download of latest J2EE and J2SE

I am new to the technology, tried downloading the software from the site, but due to slow connection I am not able to download the package, I also tried using download accelerator and sun download manager but all in vain. If someone can help me to find if I can order the CD-ROM for the same I do not need the licensed software, I need it for test and not for production. As far as I know it is freely downloadable. But CD, if somebody will let me know how much will that cost? And if directly sun people can help me in getting this CD.

Paths with J2EE, J2SE and SDKs...

I am starting j2EE delelopment on OSX.
I have installed J2SE 1.4.2 runtime from the Mac software update mechanism.
I have installed J2SE SDK 1.3.1 and my JAVA_HOME is /Developer/Java/J2SE/jdk1.3.1_02
I have installed J2EE SDK 1.4.1 and my J2EE_HOME is /Developer/Java/J2EE/j2sdkee1.3.1
Now, these are the Linux downloads so they have i386 folders in them (why? it is Java..) and I wonder if this is part of the problem.
"ant -f jboss-build.xml compile" GIVES
expr: syntax error
Error: can't find libjava.so.
Any ideas anyone?

Sorry for being a pain, but can I confirm: I need the J2SE SDK installed even though the package for J2EE 1.4 SDK says it contains J2SE SDK, right?
Things are not progressing.
I originally had the EE1.3.1SDK and the SE1.3.1SDK 'installed' so I thought but I could not trust them as I have had problems as even ant would not work (error finding libjava.so) in trying to work through the tutorials.
As the OSX instructions refered to the 1.4, I have downloaded the new EE1.4, but, unlike the file in the instructions, it is a ".bin" --- but what to do with it? Stuffit does not handle it. I do not know the unix commands to make use of it (the install info refers to a beta file that is a zip ELF which is not the same) so I am stuck again.

J2EE & J2SE install questions

I downloaded and installed this release on my Windows XP machine. The name of the install-executable is j2eesdk-1_4-dr-windows-eval.exe.
In the download website, it said this includes J2SE 1.4.2_02 also, although after installation, none of the online documentation for J2SE seems to be present, only J2EE-specific ones (includng EJB, security, server, web, etc) are present.
Do I need to install the J2SE SDK separately to get access to the regular J2SE code and documentation? Or, is this all comes with the J2EE SDK?
Also, when I install the J2EE SDK, it default-installs into C:\Sun\AppServer. When I install J2SE SDK, it default-installs into C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03 and also installs something into C:\Program Files\Java\... Why this inconsistency? Is the C:\Program Files\Java\... piece just the JRE? If so, why doesn't the J2EE install also install a JRE this way?

So, you have J2EE SDK already installed, and you want to use another J2SE version that you installed separately, right?
To do that, you should update <j2EE_install_dir>/config/asenv.bat file. Variable AS_JAVA should point to new J2SE installation directory. Then, you also need to change the J2SE installation used by default server domain - easiest way to do that is to use admin console and follow instructions available here:

Export option in ALV report downloades first two columns blank

Hi ,
Before posting this query I searched the solution in SDN but I did't find the solution.
My problem is After displaying report in ALV format ,if I press Export --> Local file --->spreadsheet ; file will downloaded to excel sheet but first two columns(only heading no data ) will be blank and next two columns with proper data.
I checked field catalog defination it seems to be ok, any other mistake ?
Please suggest.

It's the option you have in the path System->List->Save->Local file
I means it's the standard option to export an abap list into a local file, so you should try this path too and check if the resul it's the same
I think you should choose Export --->spreadsheet: here before saving the file an excel document will be open

HT3281 How can I sort the podcasts I download so that the smaller ones download first

Hi All
A cool feature that I am looking for is a way to sort the podcasts that I downlod by size, so that I can download the smaller ones first and fast and then keep downloading untill all pocasts are downloaed.
So for example: I subscribe to a podcast from Scientific American called 60-second science. Now this is a minute or so long commentary about some interesting scientific topic. Typically the podcast is in the range of 1.5 to 2.0 MBs. It downloads in seconds, and I also subscribe to Audio podcasts from London School of Economics which typically are 1.5 hours and the file is in the 30 to 35 MB range and some times even larger.
So when I make the list of podcasts to downlad, I would like to be able to clik on the headers of the coumns in iTunes and have the entries isted just kike Windows Exploer wuld sort, and then click download and the podcasts will download fast and then slow down as the file size gets larger.
Is this feature in today's iTunes 10??? Or could it be introduced in future versions?

I think you can use download manager, just try to find it in google and install it. Most of download manager has waiting list or queues.

Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:

From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

How do I choose which of purchased items download first?

I am a brand new member of iTunes. I purchased the 6-pack of existing shows for the television series "The Nine." With my 56k dialup connection, I realized after the fact that it's going to take forever to download (estimate 67 hours), however I have been plodding forward. When I do see part of the finished product (4 minutes so far on some episodes), I really like.
Main problem and question: When I brought up my iTunes iStore purchases after quitting initial download, the program selected to download the LAST 3 episodes first, which is frustrating. The little download circles keep spinnning on the last three, and I don't seem to know how to initiate first the pilot episode, which is what I most want. It also seems to want to download three at once; if it would finish pilot faster, I would prefer to just download that by itself. But for the moment, I can't even get it to continue downloading!

You should be able to pause two of the downloads. Just click on the pause symbol on the right in the download window. This should speed up the one you leave downloading.
