J2EE & J2SE install questions
I downloaded and installed this release on my Windows XP machine. The name of the install-executable is j2eesdk-1_4-dr-windows-eval.exe.
In the download website, it said this includes J2SE 1.4.2_02 also, although after installation, none of the online documentation for J2SE seems to be present, only J2EE-specific ones (includng EJB, security, server, web, etc) are present.
Do I need to install the J2SE SDK separately to get access to the regular J2SE code and documentation? Or, is this all comes with the J2EE SDK?
Also, when I install the J2EE SDK, it default-installs into C:\Sun\AppServer. When I install J2SE SDK, it default-installs into C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03 and also installs something into C:\Program Files\Java\... Why this inconsistency? Is the C:\Program Files\Java\... piece just the JRE? If so, why doesn't the J2EE install also install a JRE this way?
So, you have J2EE SDK already installed, and you want to use another J2SE version that you installed separately, right?
To do that, you should update <j2EE_install_dir>/config/asenv.bat file. Variable AS_JAVA should point to new J2SE installation directory. Then, you also need to change the J2SE installation used by default server domain - easiest way to do that is to use admin console and follow instructions available here:

Hi. I'm new to the java technology and I'm a user of the Mac platform running Darwin.
Does J2EE/J2SE run on Darwin? As I want to learn development on this, but don't want to install Linux on the Mac.
Thanks!OS X comes with 1.4.1 nowadays. I don't know whether
it relies solely on Darwin.Do you mean os x comes with J2EE 1.4 installed? The only development platform availabe are from Oracle or Apache Software Foundation, but I'm not sure that you can run a J2EE application server on os x?

Free download, and install question.
I need to buy a larger h/d, but till then I would like to put as many programs as possible on a external usb drive that I have hooked up to my PC. I've been able to do this with some other programs, and would like to try it with my Adobe Reader and Flash. When down loading and installing it does not give me the option to install in a defferent location other then my C: drive. Can this be done? Thanks you? From the MSI you have to create a MST (Transforms). In the MST create now the new property INSTALLDIR=F:\, where F: is your USB-drive. If you use then the command
msiexec.exe /i [MSI] transforms=[MST]
Adobe Reader should be installed to F:

Hi,
I would like to hear your experience on setting up EP6 environment on developers PC and test environment. The situation I have got is I need to setup EP6-SP16 on developers PC and test machine. I have previously done sneak preview installation of EP6-SP9 with MAXDB, which is a straight forward installation and I felt easy to install. Now I need to install full version and some documentation was provided to me which is for EP6-SP9 installation for server.
1) Do I need to install Oracle9.2 DB before I install WebAS6.40 and EP6?
2) From SDN users feedback I understood that we can do straight upgrade to SP16 from SP9 without going through cumulative upgrade. Is my understanding correct?
3) Do you have any suggestions?
<b>NOTE:</b> These above setup will not be connecting to any R/3 systems for now so no SLD, they are going to be treated for deploying Java application for now.
Once I setup developers PC I will be following the similiar setup for test environment.
Thanks

I'm trying to updating my JBuilder JDK but don't know which JDK to install?

Hi All,
I am new to Java. I have downloaded Java 2 SDK, Enterprise Edition version 1.4 Beta(J2EE)(which Includes Java Application Server, Servlets, EJB, JSP)
But in the
Java 2 SDK, Enterprise Edition version 1.4 Beta
- Download Instructions
it says..
Supported Operating Systems and Required Software
This release relies on the Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition ("J2SETM"). The following table lists the required version of the J2SE for each operating system that is supported with this release of the J2EE SDK.
My question was before Installing J2EE 1.4 (Beta Release) do I need to downlad & Install J2SE 1.4 Inorder to compile & Execute my first program/application.
Your detailed Instructions would be Highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Shyamthe j2se 1.4 has all the core java classes and the j2ee stuff is all the enterprise edition stuff.
so the answer to your question is yes. -
Expresso, J2EE, J2SE?
Not sure if this is the right place, but here is a question:
I am trying to read up on how to use and install Expresso.
E is, as I understand, based on J2EE. however, the instructions say that a prerequisite is that J2SE is installed.
Has anybody ran into this discrepancy?
Regards,
Larsokay, I see :-)
This should work as J2EE is just J2SE packaged with an application
server and... all the stuff you can see on the picture. I guess you don't
need them to run Expresso.

Paths with J2EE, J2SE and SDKs...
I am starting j2EE delelopment on OSX.
I have installed J2SE 1.4.2 runtime from the Mac software update mechanism.
I have installed J2SE SDK 1.3.1 and my JAVA_HOME is /Developer/Java/J2SE/jdk1.3.1_02
I have installed J2EE SDK 1.4.1 and my J2EE_HOME is /Developer/Java/J2EE/j2sdkee1.3.1
Now, these are the Linux downloads so they have i386 folders in them (why? it is Java..) and I wonder if this is part of the problem.
"ant -f jboss-build.xml compile" GIVES
expr: syntax error
Error: can't find libjava.so.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance
TimHi Lance,
Sorry for being a pain, but can I confirm: I need the J2SE SDK installed even though the package for J2EE 1.4 SDK says it contains J2SE SDK, right?
Things are not progressing.
I originally had the EE1.3.1SDK and the SE1.3.1SDK 'installed' so I thought but I could not trust them as I have had problems as even ant would not work (error finding libjava.so) in trying to work through the tutorials.
As the OSX instructions refered to the 1.4, I have downloaded the new EE1.4, but, unlike the file in the instructions, it is a ".bin" --- but what to do with it? Stuffit does not handle it. I do not know the unix commands to make use of it (the install info refers to a beta file that is a zip ELF which is not the same) so I am stuck again.
Hope to get progress during this w/e
Thanks in advance

Java/J2EE Config - Stupid Question # 2398375
(On XP Home PC) - Just installed J2SE Version 1.4.2 into C:\j2sdk1.4.2_06, followed by J2EE Version: 1.3.1 FCS into C:\j2sdkee1.3.1 & I have an anoying configuration problem .
I opened a DOS window & went into my projects folder. Command "java -version" works - gives version & full spiel. But "javac AdviceBean.Java" (which is in a sub-folder), gives a "'javac' is not recognised....." message.
I have variable set as -
CLASSPATH = $J2EE_HOME/lib/j2ee.jar;C:\Documents and Settings\Dave Cawdell\Projects
Path=%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\Sonic\MyDVD;;C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel;C:\j2sdk1.4.2_06;C:\j2sdkee1.3.1;
JAVA_HOME=C:\j2sdk1.4.2_06\bin
J2EE_HOME=C:\j2sdkee1.3.1
I don't care what these SHOULD be set to, so long as everything works. I'm not an active Java developer, I'm refreshing on Java & teaching myself J2EE & especially EJB, so after 3 days messing with this & getting nowhere - does anyone have a clue, what stupid mistake I've made ?
Here's hoping :-)Actually, it's not that big a problem at all.
The CLASSPATH environment variable is an easy one - don't use it. If you're compiling and running in a command shell, set CLASSPATH using the -classpath option.
If you're using a J2EE container like Tomcat or WebLogic, those use their own CLASSPATH and ignore any system CLASSPATH entirely. Learn what those containers assume for a CLASSPATH and you'll be better off.
The PATH issue is an OS problem, not a Java problem. You need to tell the OS where to look for executables that you want to run without having to type in the complete path. No getting around that, unless you want to rewrite the OS.
Most tools with an installer program will modify the PATH for you. You just have to be careful to note the changes they make, that's all.
A word of advice: installing Java apps in a directory whose name contains spaces is usually a bad idea.

J2EE stack install - ctrun error???
Hello all,
I have done several installations and have never come across an error like this one :-|
The only difference in this case is that I specified to install the J2EE stack only and not the ABAP stack (when installing all of the components only needed the J2EE stack).
When doing the installation, I get an error of :
ERROR: can't change to central Executable-Dir /usr/sap/KDP/SYS/exe/ctrun (No such file or directory)
I saw a /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run directory but not a /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/ctrun directory
I have also seen that the "ctrun" directory seems to be associated with dialog instances (when doing note searches, I have seen this). I have specified that this J2EE server be a central - and not dialog - instance.
Question 1 - Is it possible to have a central system with a J2EE stack only? Or, is the requirement that the central system must have both the J2EE and ABAP stacks?
Any help, hints or advice is greatly desired. Of course, points will be awarded.
TIA
Edited by: Casey Harris on Jan 5, 2009 5:26 PMHello all and thanks for the responses
The installation master I am using has the following defined in the CDLABEL.ASC file:
SAP Business Suite 2005
Installation Master for:
SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3
SAP ERP 6.0 SR3
SAP SRM 5.0 SR3, SAP SCM 5.0 SR3
SAP CRM 5.0 SR3
Number 51033511
I found the following link:
http://al-infotech.com/news/2006/12/30/use-sapcpe-for-kernel-update-on-netweaver-2004-as-java-by-yu-nong-zhang-sap/
But the one that seems to help the most is this one:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/4f/37783021fc11d288cd0000e83539c3/frameset.htm
it speaks of "automatic adjustment".
When doing this installation, I specified that this was to be a CENTRAL instance and not an application server. From my understanding above, it seems that this sapcpe is being ran even though it should not be. Not all of the conditions have been met ... One can see that the error files are in the CENTRAL directory:
ex: sapinst_instdir/ERP/SYSTEM/ORA/ *CENTRAL* /AS
Question 1: Why is the sapcpe being ran when this is not a dialog instance but a central instance?
Question 2: Also, am I correct in understanding that there is no way to set up a central instance that is has the J2EE stack only?? No components were chosen that would require the use of a dual-stack. Only the J2EE stack was chosen.
TIA

Upgrading to Mountain Lion Pre Install Questions
HI:
I will be installing Mountain Lion Next week.
I have read through many of the turotrials and quired most of the following I still have a few questions.
I have some concerns in particular regarding the contents of my mail boxes and mail.
I have backed up unto an external harddrive using time machine. When I click on the mail app I can't access it and see if the contents are there. I just get a window showing the specs.
From what I have read all my documents applications and system info are backed up.
1} Will the contents of Mail Inbox and personal Mail Boxes be either on the external drive or in Mail itself after I upgrade?
2} Will I need to up grade iWork and other Mac programs after the upgrade?
3} Does time machines automatic backup, back up everything or do I need to do a manual back up for some thing?
4} Will I need to load new drivers for external devices such as my printer and mouse?
5} Will I need to reload third party soft ware such as Adobe Elements 9?
6} Will my bookmarks and homepage be saved in Safari?
Lot's of Questions, I have limited broad band width and will need to do most of this from a friends and internet cafes so I need to be prepared time wise and finanancialy as some things will have to be done at home and are going to push me into the next teir of my flex plan, possibly past the final teir.
Any and all advice will be appreciated.
Pantheria1. You have a backup of your mailboxes in Time Machine that you can restore, but Mail won't modify your mailboxes during the upgrade. The first time you open Mail after the upgrade, it will upgrade your mailboxes to be able to work with that new version.
2. If you upgrade from Snow Leopard, you should know that there's a newer iWork '09 version for Lion and Mountain Lion that make it compatible with iCloud, so you will have to install updates for iWork at least. Respecting to other apps, you have to consult it with the developer.
3. Time Machine makes a backup of everything in your OS X partition, and it makes automatic, hourly backups. If you want, you can also make a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner or Disk Utility's Restore feature in another external disk. The advantage is that you can start the Mac from it.
4. Theoretically, Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion use the same printer drivers. Respecting to the mouse, if you are using a third-party mouse, you have to consult with the developer if your mouse is compatible with OS X Mountain Lion.
5. Third-party apps won't be deleted unless they aren't compatible. See > http://www.roaringapps.com
After downloading OS X Mountain Lion, I recommend you to make a bootable copy with Lion Diskmaker, so you won't have to download OS X Mountain Lion each time you have to reinstall OS X Mountain Lion -
Oracle IAS 10 install questions with ebs 11.5.10.2
We have a 11.5.10.2 installation that was installed a few years back
Our environment is
our small server hosts the forms server and the web server
our big server hosts admin node, concurrent manager and database
both of our above servers have IAS_ORACLE_HOME version 4
we have to upgrade this IAS_ORACLE_HOME to version 10
we are following the documents below
233436.1 Installing Oracle Application Server 10g with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i [ID 233436.1]
261914.1 Integrating Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i with Oracle Internet Directory and Oracle Single Sign-On [ID 261914.1]
313418.1 Using Oracle Discoverer 10.1.2 with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i
a) Do we need to configure IAS_ORACLE_HOME on both the above servers ?
It seems that Apps server 10g requires a separate Oracle Instance to store
the metadata repository as mentioned below
The Oracle Application Server 10g Infrastructure must not be
installed in the Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i database.
For more details, see Oracle MetaLink Note 251627.1,
"Installing an Oracle Application Server Metadata Repository
with an Oracle E-Business Suite Database."
So in case we need to install IAS_ORACLE_HOME on both servers do we need
to create two instances for the Application Server Metadata Repository
or do we have an option ?
Thanks for helpingGuys ,
Check out the following link

Check out the section called Business intelligence
if you expand the + sign it shows
Included:
* Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer
* Oracle HTTP Server
* Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J)
* Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control
* Oracle Application Server Web Cache
* Oracle Application Server Reports Services
Since I have Suse Enterprise Linux 9 and I do not have a server available
which I can use exclusively
I cannot choose the version 11 of BIS since it required SLES 10
Hence I have chosen the linux version of the BIS
the files for linux
as_linux_x86_bi_101202_disk1.cpio
as_linux_x86_bi_101202_disk2.cpio
Read
document 313418.1 section 1.3 and also the NOTE in the next section
The document 313418.1 1.3 NOTE section clearly states that if we need only Discoverer plus and Discoverer Viewer I can install the bi components as I explained above.
Hussein has guided me .....check the messages in this same thread above.
Thanks a lot Hussein
