If I invoke another exeuable jar file using Runtime.getRuntime().exec("java -jar ***");Is there any method to listen to that invoked Jar process? I tried System.out but the invoked jar program gives no out since there is no console.
How to monitor the process of another JAR program then?

that method returns a runtime object.
you can get input and output streams from it.
those are the streams used by your jar file.
i think the method to wait for the process to finish is
Runtime t;
t.waitFor();
it returns the exit code

Loading classes from another jar file

I've set up my jnpl file so that it references a core jar file (contains main() function). The jnlp also references another jar file (app.jar) which contains class files that I load and instantiate dynamically (using ClassLoader). The core.jar file contains a manifest that includes a reference to app.jar.
The app works fine when I use "java -jar core.jar" from the command line.
However, when I wrap the jars using jnlp, I always get a null pointer exception because it cannot find any class that is in the app.jar file. I've tried different strategies, such as trying to load a class file that sits on the server (in a jar file and not in a jar file), but that also fails if I use jnlp (However, it works if I use "java -jar core.jar")
Any ideas what is going on?

I can prove that OckApp.class does load because it creates a log file when it does.
The OckApp.class tries to load a class from the OckMaths.jar. This fails if webstart is used but works if OckCore is launched using "java -jar OckCore.jar".

Executing .jar files from another .jar file.

How would I run one .jar file from another .jar file. and is there anyway to call specific class arguments? Because I have one .jar file that reads a specified file and returns its contents.
So how would I execute it and specify its arguments and how would I make it return something to the executing jar file?

a specified file and returns its contents. Presumably you have a class that does that, and you have that class stored in a jar. And you want to know how to... um... do something with that class. I say "um..." because normally you don't execute a class, either, you either call its static methods or you create an instance of the class and call its instance methods.
If you have been writing a whole lot of little classes each of which just has a static main method, then stop doing that. Write real Java classes instead. The tutorial is here:

Open another jar file in a frame

I have some programs that I made separately, and i want to make a parent program that the user can open them from it.
I want them to open inside the parent not separately. Its like opening a webpage in an iframe in HTML.
Is that possible, and how can it be done??

If you want to launch an application from another Application subclass (say, MyApp), you can try the following. This must be executed on the JavaFX Application Thread, and the jar file containing the application must be on the classpath. This is kind of an unusual way to reuse existing code: I'd recommend Abhinay's approach (expose the root container, or whatever you need, instantiate that, and then create your own scene and stage to display it if necessary).

If you just have multiple jars that have different classes, the JVM will load the appropriate classes if it can find the jars through the standard classloader on the classpath or through a customer classloader.

Creating jar file including 2 another jar files

I have to include these jar files while setting environment variables.
Now i want to make "MyPrj.jar" file for myproject ,can anyone pls help me how to include these all files into a single jar file. and how to make setup file
I have tried to extract out .class files of mail.jar & activation.jar & i ve created MyPrj.jar by including all class files(including class files of mail.jar & activation.jar) but manifest file(headers) are not added to MyPrj.jar.
i have also tried to give mail.jar & activation.jar in Class-Path of menifest file, but it is also not working.

Adding Jar files in another Jar file

I have a very bad problem. Please some one help me here.
I created a Java application which is organized in a package structure.
The directories and files in the JAr files are following
1) TestApplication.class - The application startup class.
2) com(dir) - The start of my package structure, all the othere files are in this directory
3) config (dir) - Directory containing all the configuration files.
4) hsqlDatabase (dir) - contains the inprocess database
5) images (dir) - Contains all the images used in the application.
6) lib (dir) - Contains all the other jar files that i use in this application, i have about 10 of them in this directory.
I created a jar file which contains all these dir and the TestApplication.class file. I also uses the 'Main-Class' and 'Class-Path' attribute.

1) the first problem is that it starts the application (TestApplication.class) and also loads the rest of the application in my package(com\...). But it cannot find the classes which are in the jar file (in the lib dir).
2) I am also trying to read from a config\xxxxx.properties file, but i get an exception showing FileNotFound (xxxxx.properties).

jars inside of jars do not work like you want them too. You should be able to write a class loader that can find those other jars, but Java does not directly support jars inside of jars. Of course, you can unjar the other jars and use them as well.

Is this file also in the jar? If it is, you need to use getClass().getResource() to find the file.

Jar file using another jar file

Meaning you have some third-party libraries that need to be on the classpath? You should link them in the manifest file and then bundle them when you deploy.

Jar file referring to classes in another jar file

I want to deploy my application as a WAR file. Let's say deploying it as an EAR is not an option. I have utility1.jar in WEB-INF/lib that needs classes in other utility2.jar (which is also in WEB-INF/lib) at runtime. Do I need to classpath entry in utility1.jar manifest pointing to utility2.jar? Your help is appreciated.

When a *".war"* is loaded by the server as that application_name* , it unloads the .jar files into "classes" directory with accordence the structure of the folders/package-hierarchy implicitly.

Jar Files in a Jar File - Classpath Error

I created a jar file that will have all the class files of the application. In the manifest file class path, I have the jar files the application is dependent on. The dependent jar files were kept outside of the application jar file. I was able to execute the main file in the application jar file. Then I created another jar file that holds all the dependent jar files the application is dependent on along with the application jar file into one super jar file. configured the main class attribute of the super jar file to that in the application jar file. When I try to execute it, I'm getting an error saying Class Not Found. Can someone guide me in setting the classpath for this super jar file in its manifest file.
Presently my manifest file classpath variable in the super jar file is set as App.jar Depend1.jar Depend2.jar

Java's standard class loaders do not support jar files inside of other jar files, and will give the error you see.
You can write your own customized class loader, use a 3rd-party solution (onejar at sourceforge is one), or remove the interior jars.

How to dynamically load jar files - limiting scope to that thread

Dynamically loading jar files has been discussed a lot. I have read a quite a few posts, articles, and demo code for doing just that. However, I have yet to find a solution to my problem. Most people modify their system class loader and are happy. I have done that and was happy for a time. Occasionally, you will see reference to an application server or tomcat or some other large project that have successfully been able to load and unload jar files, allow for dynamic deployment of code, etc. However, I have not been able to achieve similar success; And my problem is much less complicated.
I have an application that executes a thread to send a given file/message to a standard JMS Server Queue. Depending on the parameters selected by the user, this thread may need to communicate with one of a number of JMS Servers, ie. JBoss, WebLogic, EAServer, Glassfish, etc. All of which can be done with the same code, but each needs to load their own flavor of JMS Client Jar files. In this instance, spawning a separate JVM for each communication would work from a classloader perspective. However, I need to keep it in the family and run under the same JVM, albeit each JMS Server Connection will be created and maintained in separate Threads.
I am close, I am doing the following...
1. Creating a new URLClassLoader in the run() method of each thread.
2. Set this threads contextClassLoader to the new URLClassLoader.
3. Load the javax.jms.JMSException class with the URLClassLoader.loadClass() method.
4. Create an initialContext object within this thread.
Note: I read that the initialContext and subsequent conext lookup calls would use the Thread�s
contextClassLoader for finding/loading classes.
5. Perform context.lookup calls for a connectionFactory and Queue name.
6. Create JMS Connection, etc. Send Message.
Most of this seems to work. However, I am still getting a NoClassDefFoundError exception for the javax.jms.JMSException class ( Note step #3 - tried to cure unsuccessfully).
If I include one of the JMS Client jar files ( ie wljmsclient.jar for weblogic ) in the classpath then it works for all the different JMS Servers, but I do not have confidence that each of the providers implemented these classes that now resolve the same way. It may work for now, but, I believe I am just lucky.
Can anyone shine some light on this for me and all the others who have wanted to dynamically load classes/jar files on a per Thread basis?

First, BenSchulz' s dumpClassLoader() method helped me to visualize the classLoader hierarchy. I am still not completely sure I understand why my initial class was always found by the systemClassLoader, but knowning that - was the step I needed to find the solution.
Second, kdgregory suggested that I use a "glue class". I thought that I already was using a "glue class" because I did not have any JMSClient specific classes exposed to the rest of the application. They were all handled by my QueueAdmin class. However...
The real problem turned out to be that my two isolating classes (the parent "MessageSender", and the child "QueueAdmin") were contained within the same jar file that was included in the classpath. This meant that no matter what I did the classes were loaded by the systemClassLoader. Isolating them in classes was just the first step. I had to remove them from my jar file and create another jar file just for those JMSClient specific classes. Then this jar file was only included int custom classLoader that I created when I wanted to instantiate a JMSClient session.
I had to create an interface in the primary jar file that could be loaded by the systemClassLoader to provide the stubs for the individual methods that I needed to call in the MessageSender/QueueAdmin Classes. These JMSClient specific classes had to implement the interface so as to provide a relationship between the systemClassLoader classes and the custom classLoader classes.
Finally, when I loaded and instantiated the JMSClient specific classes with the custom classLoader I had to cast them to the interface class in order to make the method calls necessary to send the messages to the individual JMS Servers.

Replacing JAR files loaded by custom ClassLoader

I am trying to create an auto-updater for a stand alone application, which can look for new versions of relevant jar files on the internet and download them. I have code which will look for newly downloaded versions and can replace the old jar file with the new one (using simple File methods). This works fine for when the application is started initially, but as the application is a server and may not manually be started for a long time, I am trying to force the server to restart and reload with the new code.

My main question is how can I 'free' the jar file so that it can be replaced with new code? Is it possible? My only otherway of working around this is to have a variable stored in a file pointing at the 'current' code, but the jar file isn't litterally replaced.
This is a standalone application, which will probably run in a startup script on a server, so webstart isn't really an option.

I have found this to be true anytime I try to use the renameTo() API to rename a file with a .jar file extension (regardless of the actual file type - i.e. it could be a text file with .jar appended and it will still fail) in the case where the class making the renameTo() call is loaded from another .jar file.
I run the same exact code after extracting from the .jar, then the rename to the other .jar file is successful. Also, if I rename the .jar file to a ".ja" file, I can successfully rename the jar file even if the code is running with the context of another .jar file.
Is this some kind of bogus security measure within the JVM or is it a bug?

Including helper classes in java proxy jar file

I must not be using the right header search criteria because I'm sure this question
has been asked before. In a Web Service File (.jws) I've imported a couple of
helper classes that function as data transfer objects. I did this to maintain
consistency with other portions of the application. The Java Proxy jar file generated
by Workshop does not include these files. Is there a way of including these dependencies
or do I need to distribute another jar file with my helper classes?

I was able to successfully run both the autotype and clientgen Ant task, on the
WSDL you provided. The code behind those Ant tasks are pretty much what the WebLogic
Web Services test page run. Are you using WLS 8.1 SP2? If not, you might want
to try with that version.

I have created a jar file by using
jar cvmf Manifest.txt myjar.jar 1.class Mydirectory
In 1.java file :I have used
JEditorPane editor;
editor.setPage(getClass().getResource("/Mydirectory/default.htm"));
If I am only giving myjar.jar file to the client without Mydirectory then also it is working fine by showing default.htm in JeditorPane.
But my problem is I want to use
Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c start IEXPLORE"+targetstr) ;
targetstr will be the filename with path of the default.htm
If I am giving myjar.jar file with Mydirectory to the client it is working but I don't want to give Mydirectory to the client .
What should I do?
Is there any solution for this?
Using another jar file which will include mydirectory can solve this problem?
Is there any othe concept in java so that I wll be able to hide Mydirectory from client?

It seems like you could extract the .htm file from the jar, either with Runtime.exec or using the Jar API classes.
