Hi,
You can do it online but better to perform at off-peak time because it will marked all those Cursor from Library Cache as Invalid which refer this Table which incurs hard parsing when those cursor refer by the application next time.

Someone please explain,
Is it better to increase the Oracle datafile size or add another datafile to increase the Oracle tablespace size?

The decision must also includes:
- the max size of a file in your OS and/or file system
- how you perform your backup and recovery (eg:do you need to change the file list)
- how many disks are available and how they are presented to the OS (raw, LVM, striped, ASM, etc.)
- how many IO channels are available and whether you can balance IO across them
Personal default is to grow a file to the largest size permitted by OS unless there is a compelling reason otherwise. That fits nicely with the concept of BIGFILE tablespaces (which have their own issues, especially in backup/recovery)

I honestly don't know how to increase the size
But i am giving you an alternate solution : we can create two Images with check box type 1 ) with checked
2 ) with unchecked . ( you can create image of any size ) and get them displayed on OAF screen dynamically using switcher case .
Dynamically displaying image will give the illusion of check box being checked and unchecked .
keep this image moved to following media directory
eg : /oraapp/mfgtestcomn/java/oracle/apps/media .
Implement the switcher case , add the fire action to this Image Column , create a transient attribute and attach to this
column . Depending on the value returned by transient attribute display the image on the column .
Let me know if its not clear .

According to your description, you want to use SSRS to update data in database table. Right?
Though Reporting Services is mostly used for rendering data, your requirement is still can be achieved technically. You need to create a really complicated stored procedure. Pass insert/delete/update and the columns we need to insert/delete/update as
parameters into the stored procedure. When we click "View Report", the stored procedure will execute so that we can execute insert/delete/update inside of the stored procedure. Please take a reference to two related articles below:

To increase the length of a vanilla column

Hello Everyone,
I have a situation, where I have to increase a length of a vanilla column in siebel.
I have to increase the length of a base column CORP_STOCK_SYMBOL of a vanilla table S_ORG_EXT. From the tools level I can't do this as it does not allow me to.
If I can make the change from the backend, it won't reflect the same in the tools(Logical Level). But in the DB level you can see that the length has altered. But when u try to update a value and then open the application it throws an SQL error. What I am thinking is, though the length is altered at the physical level, in logical level it has not changed therefore i guess the SQL error is popping.
Or can I alter the S_COLUMN table itself? If it is done, I fear the problem while migrating this to different environment.
Please let me know the solution for this if any of you people have encountered the similar situation.

If you insist on increasing the length of the column, I would get Oracle involved.
Another option might be to use a different column or create a new column.

I have created a Table with an XMLtype column , when I am checking the data length it is showing only 2000.
Don't rely on this value, it's wrong.
XMLType datatype inherits the properties of its underlying LOB storage, in the present case CLOB, which can store TBs of data.

What i want to do is :
-->call report in background job with a selection criteria.
-->the output of the report should be trasnsfered to excel sheet
-->then the excel sheet should be sent to XI..
My doubts are:
-> is it possible with every report or we need some extra code to achieve this
-> If yes, then how exactly it should be done. can you please explain in more detail.

char means fixed length variable. when you say char(10) oracle will reserve 10 places for your data. that means in your output what you are seeing as blank spaces are also considered as data. that is the reason, it is not allowing you to reduce the size.
better solution is to create new column with varchar2 or char(5) datatype and transfer this column data into new column and then drop original column.

How to increase the length of a columnin existing publication item

We need to urgently increase the length of three columns in one of the tables that is sent offline as a publication item. I have searched everywhere to see if there is a procedure to see this. I only found process to add/drop columns but not modify to JUST increase the length.
Can we just alter the tables on the server and republish the application? Will that cause any data loss on the client end?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

How to increase the length of the identifier?

I want to create a table with a column name as:
"domainnameregistrationassistance"
oracle 9i does not allow me to do this.
as the identifier length is fixed to 30 characters.
how do i increase the length of the identifier?

maximum sizeof 4 GB -1 byte RTFM there: Datatypes(click)
extracted: LONG: Character data of variable length up to 2 gigabytes, or 231 -1 bytes.

Hi All,
I have a column like lastdate with varchar datatype. now I want to work with lastdate column in where clause with getdate().
Ex: where
getdate() - lastdate < 1
when I use above one I got error like
Error = Conversion failed when converting date and/or
time from character string.
I knew the datatypes for lastdate and getdate() are different...
how can I use...

You need to convert the string date to datetime or date. See conversion examples here:

Example for the where clause:
WHERE DATEDIFF(DD, convert(datetime, lastdate, 101), getdate() ) < 1
Can you post sample string dates?
Are you looking for today's records? Another option (depends on lastdate format):
WHERE lastdate = convert(char(8), getdate(), 112)
