To lock the output of a SELECT query
Hi,
I want to lock the output of a SELECT query to some transaction.
I have wriiten it as follows , the output of the query is a single row;
SELECT empname
FROM employees
where empid = 100
FOR UPDATE;
Specifying only FOR UPDATE is proper or do i need to specify some more clause ??
Thanks.
bscalzo wrote:
You can also specify the columns to lock if you like:
select x, y, z from aaa where x = 1 for update of x, y;
But the locking is still currently only done at the row level - but who knows what the future might offer. May not hurt to have the columns named for thay day when the syntax and engine sync up :)It might be worth to amend that specifying the columns is already particularly relevant if you select from multiple tables/views in order to specify which rows of which table/view to lock.

Does anyone know if you can fill an object with an output from a select query on a form. I am trying to display a piece of data on a form , that is related to the data on the form. I do not need to edit this peice of data.
The version of PORTAL i am using does not support forms created on views.
Is this possible!!
ThanksHi

the output of a select is boolean,how do i display it on the graph,its datatype being different?

comp.vi 37 KBIf you want to graph TRUE/FALSE in a graph, you can translate it to 1/0, using "Boolean to 0/1" inside boolean palette.
Hope this helps -
I'm trying to print halftones to a wide format Savin 2404 WDP printer.
I can select the halftone desired in the output window and select Separations.
I do not get a halftone dot output but instead I get shades of grey. HELP.That worked really well (Resolution and Halftone screen Lpi, Angle and Dot shape).
My only issue now is when art is created in Illustrator CS6. I can't get those results for gradients.
I guess I would need to bring those files one color at a time back into photoshop.
Keep me posted if you have any other thoughts.
Thanks again. -
How to Suppress The Output of a SQL Query In Oracle 11gR2
Hi Friends,
I am using oracle version 11.2.0.1, I have set a cronjob which will run on every 15 minutes and give us a log file mentioning the execution time taken for that SQL query:-
For example:
SQL> set timing on;
SQL> SELECT objProp FROM aradmin.arschema WHERE (schemaId = 175);
OBJPROP+
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
*6\60006\4\0\\60008\40\0\60009\4\0\\60010\4\0\\60018\4\0\\600*
*22\4\68\1\63\AR:jRL#*
Elapsed: 00:00:00.00
The above query will return the output as well as the time taken for execution of the query. I want to suppress the output of the query and only want the time taken to be printed. Is it possible by set commands. I have marked the output as bold and made it Italic.
Please help me at the earliest.

How would that even be useful?
A query from a tool such as sql*plus is STILL going to send the output to the client and the client. You can keep sql*plus from actually displaying the data by setting autotrace to trace only.
But that TIME TAKEN is still going to include the network time it takes to send ALL rows that the query returns across the network.
That time is NOT the same as the actual execution time of the query. So unless you are trying to determine how long it takes to send the data over the network your 'timing' method is rather flawed.
Why don't you tell us WHAT PROBLEM you are trying to solve so we can help you solve it? -

Delimited output of a select query
Hi, How to write comma delimited output
of select query from within a PL/SQL stored
procedure to a file. for example
select a | | ',' | | b
from test3
I know it can be done at SQL prompt using spool command, but
don't know how it can be done from within PL/SQL procedure without using cursors
thanks
PramodHi Pramod,
Why don't u try with use of UTL FILE.
select the necessary values into some local variables.
With the use of utl_file.fopen open a file.
And use utl_file.put_line to write the values
in to the file.
Try it and let me know.

Loop at i_salesplant.
select maramatnr mvkeVKORG mvkeVTWEG maraZZCOEAFE maraZZCOEAFEUOM mvkeZZALLPOL
into corresponding fields of table i_zallocpol from mara inner join mvke on
mvkematnr = maramatnr
where MARA~zzobjtype = I_ZZOBJTYPE
and MVKE~VKORG = i_salesplant-vkorg
and MVKE~VTWEG = T_VTWEG.
ENDLOOP.
My Que : For example lets say first it selects all the records for Sales Org 1000. Next when you select the records for the Sales Org 2000 the earlier records are getting overwritten.
Please let me know your valuable inputs.
Thanks,
ChandravadanHi,
Thanks alot for the reply.
I changed query using appending as follows :
Loop at i_salesplant.
select maramatnr mvkeVKORG mvkeVTWEG maraZZCOEAFE maraZZCOEAFEUOM mvkeZZALLPOL
into appending corresponding fields of table i_zallocpol from mara inner join mvke on
mvkematnr = maramatnr
where MARA~zzobjtype = I_ZZOBJTYPE
and MVKE~VKORG = i_salesplant-vkorg
and MVKE~VTWEG = T_VTWEG.
ENDLOOp.
But it is giving error saying " Field "APPENDING" is unknown. It is neither in one of the specified tables nor defined by a "DATA" statement. "
Please suggest.
Thanks,

Call the Function against a select query in 500 procedures...
Hello Gurus,
I have a scenario, where i had made one function(UDF Function) to calculate something and in every procedure i call that function and calculate my requirement.
Yesterday, i made a select query using reg exp for the same calculation..
So my question is, what should be the proper approach..
I need to implement this on 500 procedures...
And the UDF function is
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION "UDF_TEXTSPLIT" (
p_list VARCHAR2,
p_del VARCHAR2 := ','
) RETURN split_tbl pipelined
IS
l_idx PLS_INTEGER;
l_list VARCHAR2(7999) ;
l_value VARCHAR2(7999);
BEGIN
l_list := p_list;
LOOP
l_idx := INSTR(l_list,p_del);
IF l_idx > 0 THEN
pipe ROW(SUBSTR(l_list,1,l_idx-1));
l_list := SUBSTR(l_list,l_idx+LENGTH(p_del));
ELSE
pipe ROW(l_list);
EXIT;
END IF;
END LOOP;
RETURN;
END Udf_Textsplit;
I have made this query:
SELECT a.b,z. b1 FROM
(SELECT ROWNUM d,REGEXP_SUBSTR(str1, '[^> ]+', 1, LEVEL) b
FROM (SELECT 'xxx>zzz>gg' str1 FROM dual)
CONNECT BY REGEXP_SUBSTR(str1, '[^> ]+', 1, LEVEL) IS NOT NULL)a,
(SELECT ROWNUM d,REGEXP_SUBSTR(str1, '[^> ]+', 1, LEVEL) b1
FROM (SELECT '100>500>20' str1 FROM dual)
CONNECT BY REGEXP_SUBSTR(str1, '[^> ]+', 1, LEVEL) IS NOT NULL)z
WHERE a.d=z.d
Do i use the same select query in all 500 procedures or call the (UDF Function) in every procedure..
So which will be faster...
Your approach would be very much appreciated...
Thanks,
Haraprasad...Hmm, do I edit 500 procedures to replace a function call with a SQL statement, or edit 1 function to use a sql statement instead of the current algorithm?
This is why we use code modules that do one thing and do it well. As long as the new version of the function takes the same arguments and returns the same results as the old, then the callers will never know that the way the function works has changed.
Whenther you put the select statement in 500 procedures, or 1 function, there will still be a context switch every time you use it. The tiny additional overhead of calling a function before the context switch would be unnoticeable.

Newby: locking the table on a SELECT?
I have just downloaded SQL developer and have been using it to look at the back end of my work database, but it seems just as I started browsing through tables (by clicking on them in the tree explorer) people started getting kicked out of their front end applications. When I stopped, they stopped getting kicked out. Does my viewing a table lock that table? I have tried also through select tables, and I am not sure about whether it leaves the transaction open and locks the table, or not? Also, because of this I am unsure about the commit button (since it removes all the data when pressed). Can someone please enlighten me. thanks
Along the same line as the database connection limit:
If you are logged in as the same username as the other users, you could be hitting a limit on the username that you are logged in with.
To find the limits specified for a user:
SELECT * FROM sys.dba_profiles where resource_type != 'PASSWORD' AND profile in (select profile from all_users where username = :username) ORDER BY profile;
The most likely value above to check is 'SESSIONS_PER_USER'
There are other possibilities aside from specific user limits, so you may want to check with your dba to find out what you are running up against. The only other thing that I can think of is open cursor limits since I believe that viewing a table opens a cursor.

How to read the output of 'tarantella license query' command?
I'm trying to track my license usage (to better determine when to buy new licenses, and to track usage over time).
When I issue the 'tarantella license query command, this is typical of the output I see:
[root@sgdserver ~]# /opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella license query
License usage at: Mon Feb 11 14:03:53 EST 2008
Type In use / Total
Base 6 / 230
UNIX 4 / 230
Mainframe 0 / 230
Windows 0 / 230
AS/400 0 / 230
[root@sgdserver ~]#What is the above saying? Is it saying that I am using 10 licenses out of my 230, or am I just using 6 licenses? In other words, do I add up the numbers or just use the highest one? Or do I just have to worry about the 'Base' license number?
Thanks.The base license is the number of users that are logged into a webtop.
From there you count then connectivity type.
So you have 6 webtop licenses out of 230 consumed and of those 4 users have launched UNIX sessions out of 230 you have licensed.
hope this helps.
