To more specific class for waveform chart

Dear All
In the attached VI diagram the "To more specific class" gives an error messag:
LabVIEW:  Type mismatch: Object cannot be type casted to the specified type.
so it can not work for my waveform chart. I think I changed some properties or some thing similar for my chart that can not work with this routine because it works for new instances of waveform charts but whatever I try to find the difference between my waveform chart and a new instance of waveform chart I don't not find any difference.
 Do you have any clue?
Best regards
Afshin

can my 600MHz P-3, 256MB Ram handle a data acquisition of more than 1kHz with waveform chart support?

    Arun,
I have performed data acquisition on a computer with lower specs than the one you described, at rates greater than 1 kHz. I don't quite understand the "waveform chart support" portion of your question, but if you are asking if it is possible to plot the acquired data on a Waveform Chart in LabVIEW, this should not be a problem.
If you have more specific questions, let me know.

  • To more specific class: Cant find strict numeric, only numeric

Im trying to read a control property by reference from some controls that are in a cluster.
I want to cast the property's reference to a more specific class: strict numeric, but I can only find 'Numeric' which leaves me with variant data.
    Any help?

    Hello,
I think you can't (not fully sure though). What you can do is get the "Representation" property, that tells you if it's I32 or DBL or else (as an enum) and with this information you can get the value from the variant.

  • To more specific class: all return error after upgrade from LV2011 to 2012

I have working projects/executables built in labview 2011. When loading the exact same project in 2012 EVERY 'to more specific class' returns an error.
For example, making a generic control reference into a 'numeric'.
Redoing the exact same action makes no difference. What has changed in LV2012?

Can you post an example VI containing such code? Please post the original 2011 code.

  • To More Specific Class & Plugin Architecture

    Hello there,
I have a plugin architecture and I want to load a particular class on demand, when a user clicks a button etc.
I can do this using 'Get LV Class Default Value.vi' knowing the path of the .lvclass file, and I can then use the 'To More Specific Class' vi to cast it from type LV Object to the specific class I know it to be.
However if I have 30 different classes with this method I would have to have 30 different class constants in a case structure so I can cast to the right one.  This works but it means all the classes are loaded into memory when the program is run, even though the user may never want to use most of them, which is a waste of time/memory.
Is there a better way of doing this please?
    Thanks,
    Martin

I wonder if minute 4:00 in Michael's video will help you. It avoids the constants, as long as all the classes are descendants of a common class:

  • Refnum more specific class error

I am trying to make a general control reference number into the more specific TabControl refnumber, but when I try using the "To More Specific Class" VI with a TabControl reference constant, I get the following error:
    Code: 1057
Error:  Type mismatch: Object cannot be type casted to the specified type.
I have posted a picture of what I am trying to do (the false case just passes the boolean through).
Is there a reason that I am not able to nake the more general control reference into a TabControl refnum?
    Thanks.

    Yes, there is.
What you're attempting to cast is not the tab control, but its owner, which would be either the panel or the pane. If you use the control reference it should work.
As a side point, a simpler way to do this would simply be to type cast until you get no error (instead of comparing to the class name). If you need more than one class you can wire the string directly into the case structure selector.

  • Cursor legend for waveform chart

Greetings again. Is there a method to turn on the cursor legend in a waveform chart (like in the waveform graphs)? I'd like to allow a user of my application to be able to select a portion of a chart and have the application report the value plotted.
I am acquiring data via the Analog In channels of a PCI-6036e at 1500 Hz to plot in real-time. I tried plotting my data with the waveform graph but it only shows the latest readings and does not scroll the data. I know I could build an array and rotate through it as the data comes in but that seems like a lot more effort just to be able to use the cursor controls to highlight data.
Any ideas? Am I being too brief?
    Thanks-
    -dennis.

Cursors are only avalaible on graphs, not charts. There was a post on this subject yesterday...

    Oesen,
When you are displaying data on a chart, the newest data is appears at the right of the previous data. When the chart history buffer is full (default length = 1024), adding a new point deletes the oldest point.  Visually it appears that the data slides to the left as new data is added to the right end.
My question relates to how the user would "tell" the program what data to average. In the image you posted you marked a segment of the data to be averaged.  Suppose the user marks point "A" as the beginning of the segment. While the user is deciding where to put mark "B" additional data is acquired and point "A" disappears because it is beyond the history length.  What does the program do in such a case?   A slight variation is the situation where both "A" and "B" have been marked but some of the data is deleted from the history before the averaging or other processing has begun.

  • How to set the (specific) color for a Chart Series in a Flash Diagramm

    Hello all,
I wonder how I can set the color (of a bar) for a Chart Series in a Flash Diagramm.
So far I found now set-screw for this.
Can someone give me a hint please.
    Thanks in advance.
    Andre

    Hi,
On the Chart Attributes page for the region, change the "Color Scheme" setting to Custom. Then, in the "Custom Colors" setting, enter the colours you want for all series, separated by a comma. For example:
    red,yellow,greenAndy

  • To more specific class - cursor reference - error 1057

I must be missing something very stupid here. Why is this cast not working? Thanks!

There are other questions to be answered:
    1. Does the cursor exist on the graph?
    2. What other errors are you getting earlier in the process?
    3. Have you tried probing the cursor reference before you did the cast to a generic type?

  • Strictly typed refnum vs normal refnum for a waveform chart

I know that one way of clearing a waveform chart is to write an empty array to the 'history' property of the charts property node. The help file for this states: "use strictly typed refnums when reading this properrty"
I am looking at a program coded in LV 8.6
a number of control refnums are carried around in an array (so strict typed)
in some cases (but not all) the programmer used "to more specific class" to designate a waveform class when writing to properties for scaling the Y-axis, etc. Other times this is not done(?)
We are now having an issue which appears to be that the chart is re-initialized when dynamically rescaled (I am not sure if that is what is going on, but that is what it looks like).
It looks like when the chart is dynamically rescaled the previously acquired data is gone and the chart starts populating fresh.
Haven't figured out what is causing this, and I am wondering if strict type refnums vs generic refnums may be a factor?

Waveform charts can hold different data types (they are polymorphic), such as DBL or 1D-array of DBL. When you want to set the history, you need a 1D DBL or 2D DBL respectivily. The correct data type is part of the 'strict type', I guess you will get the default instance if you use the non-strict (generic) type.
But if this is releated to your problem, I can't even guess.

  • Get Specific References for all Controls

Using slightly modified code from here, I am generating an array of all control references on my main front panel which is then passed through to a number of subVIs. Although this functionality does work, it would be preferable to get specific references to the controls (for example, Boolean RefNum instead of Control RefNum).
Getting these specific references seems possible using To More Specific Class and Class Specifier constants. However, data storage becomes an issue because I can no longer use arrays (as they are a different data type). I am not sure if there is another way to pass this data on. I have experimented casting the RefNums to Variants, but to get the data from the variant, I have to know what RefNum type I am expecting which sort of defeats the purpose of doing this in the first place.
A secondary problem is keeping the names of the references. The Control RefNums do not have names associated with them nor do I know how to assign names to them. I've again tried using variants and using the OpenG Set Data Name function, but this crashes LabVIEW without any indication of why.
I've attached a version of my code that tries assign names using OpenG Set Data Name and build a variant array. To run it, simple add the VI as a subVI to a VI that has some boolean controls on the Front Panel. Apologies for the rough state of the code - I'm still in the process of figuring out how to make it work so things are a bit messy.

Get Specific Control Refs.vi ‏28 KB

I don't know if you'll get much better.  There is really no way I know of to have some fully flexible way of building named clusters of references based on any given front panel set you feed to it.
I tend to do things the manual way (as there are also a bunch of references to front panel elements I wouldn't need).  I would do all the bundling work in a subVI.
I'm attaching a zip file that contains the key VI's (unless I missed something) on the first project where I really tried to abstract out the reference building.  The files are LV9.
On my main VI, I have the subVI called Build UI References early in the VI during an initialization phase.  I pass the reference to the main VI into that subVI that builds all the references.  I worked it as a master cluster that contains elements that are arrays of references of related controls.  It uses another subVI called Get References and Label Names that I created to help find controls.  I still need to use More Specific Class to get the property references, but I don that only once at the beginning.  I then pass that cluster wire out and to anywhere in my VI that would need access to the references for front panel elements.
I use arrays of strings to supply the names I need to build and bundle the references.  This lets me ignore controls I don't care about.  The disadvantages to my system is that if I change the name of any control, I need to update the name within this subVI.  And if I want to add any controls, not only do I need to add the label names for the searching functions, I also need to update my typedef cluster (and you definitely want this to be a typedef) to add a spot to store the new reference.
I hope this gives you some ideas.  It worked for me and I will likely use the scheme on another project (or even rewrite past projects using this scheme.)  If there are any ideas for improvements, I'd be happy to hear them.

Open the example finder (Help>>Find Examples) and look at the Write Datalog File example. You can also convert your data to text to save a simple text file. Also, the tutorials in the following links probably cover something similar.
To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here, here, here, here and here are a few you can start with and here are some tutorial videos. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.

  • How can I display more than 1 loop iteraction in a waveform chart?

Using DAQmx, I am inputting a signal at a rate of 10k with 1k samples inside a while loop. I want the first 3 seconds of data to display on a waveform chart without having to change the rate or number of samples. Is there a way to stop the waveform chart from clearing after every loop iteration so that I can display more than 0.1sec of data? Thank you for any help you can provide!
