Tomcat 3.1 and WL 4.5

My application runs fine on weblogic 4.5 with both JSP and EJB handled by
the same app server (WL).
I have been trying to put all the JSPs (all class libraries ....) on another
machine running tomcat 3.1. I would like to use WL as EJB server only.
My investigation turns to the jdni area which I suspect is the problem. This
is the function I have on the JSP:
<%!
String pagetitle = "JSP StepSearch using EJBean Stateless Session";
String url = "t3://172.21.22.77:7001";
String accountId = "10020";
// Declaring a Java class
public Context getInitialContext() throws Exception {
Properties p = new Properties();
p.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
"weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
p.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, url);
return new InitialContext(p);
the url is the remote machine running WL4.5.
Can anyone please tell me that if using tomcat for JSP and WL for EJB would
work or not at all ?
If so, what am I missing on the tomat configuration ?
thanks

I actually got it to work yesterday. However, there is just one problem I
cannot figure out.
What weblogic package do I have to have on the client machine ?
The weblogic server serves the bean alright. On the client machine on which
I have my tomcat running on,
I have to put some weblogic classes there, otherwise, it won't run properly.
I said put because I did not start the weblogic
server on my client machine. The bean classes on the client machine looks
for those weblogic classes though.
Now, my client has only one weblogic lisence with them, if each client
machine must install some WL components, would that be a problem for them ?
Do you have some package that I can download and install on the client
machine to make this work ?
thanks

I don't know what might be wrong, since I don't know what your
servlets are doing. If you can post some more detailed information
(including the WLS service pack you're using), that might help.

  • Tomcat 4.0 and Oracle 10g takes 100% CPU and grinds to a halt

    Hi, I have a system to support that is currently running on Tomcat 4.0 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 machine with 3.06Ghz, 4Gb Memory, 2Gb Page file connecting to an Oracle 8.1.6 database on a Windows NT 4 virtual server with 3.2Ghz, 1152Mb Memory, 1536Mb Page file.
    I have another Windows virtual server 2003 R2 SP2 machine with 2Gb of memory and a 4Gb page. This server has Tomcat 4.0 and an Oracle 10.2.0.3.0 database. I have made sure that the Oracle 10g classes12.jar file is used.
    I am trying to run the application on the new server. In some tests I had users logging on one by one for the first 5 users - performance was great and the application ran faster than the current live system. When I then got another 10 - 15 people logging on the CPU stuck at 100% on the server, even exploring the server was almost impossible, and the application slowed down to unworkable.
    We dont know if the problem lies with the very fact that we are trying to connect to a 10g database which is cost based and the application was written using rule based Oracle 8. Or is it the virtual server? Or is it the fact that we have both the application and the database on the same server.
    I dont know if it is possible to have another Tomcat4.0 server running on our live server but connecting to the 10g database - what would happen with classes12.zip and classes12.jar? would there be a conflict?
    I would really appreciate some help here. You should know though that I am not a hardened java programmer - I can dabble, but am an Oracle Forms, Reports, Discoverer, SQL person by trade. I am also a trainee DBA, so again am not an expert by any means.
    Thanks in advance for your help

If you find that those are drifting up over time, it's likely that the code isn't closing resources properly.

Start monitoring your Oracle connections and cursors to see what's going on. Install some filters to get raw timings on your Java calls. Without data, you're guessing in the dark.

  • Tomcat 4.0 and Apache 2.0.35

    Hello,
    I am trying to install mod_jk or mod_webapp.so with Tomcat 4.0 and Apache 2.0.35, running on Windows XP Professional. When I try to start Apache, it fails to see it the new module in the modules/ directory, even though it's most definitely there. Anybody have any thoughts?

    The Tomcat 4 has different settings compared to the previous releases (Tomcat 3.3.x and Tomcat 3.2.x). If the previous releases use mod_jk.dll and/or mod_jk.so, the version 4 uses different modules. I have obtained the following from the server.xml file from Tomcat 4.0.3.
    The MOD_WEBAPP connector is used to connect Apache 1.3 with Tomcat 4.0
    as its servlet container. Please read the README.txt file coming with
    the WebApp Module distribution on how to build it.
    (Or check out the "jakarta-tomcat-connectors/webapp" CVS repository)
    To configure the Apache side, you must ensure that you have the
    "ServerName" and "Port" directives defined in "httpd.conf". Then,
    lines like these to the bottom of your "httpd.conf" file:
    LoadModule webapp_module libexec/mod_webapp.so
    WebAppConnection warpConnection warp localhost:8008
    WebAppDeploy examples warpConnection /examples/
    The next time you restart Apache (after restarting Tomcat, if needed)
    the connection will be established, and all applications you make
    visible via "WebAppDeploy" directives can be accessed through Apache.

  • Tomcat load balancing and frames

    Hello !
    I am having an web applications built on Servlets and JSP, but in my application I am using frames so after I am connecting to the application I am having one JSP wtih 3 frames (JSP).For the web site I am using sessions.My application is working ok on one Tomcat, but when I tried to put the application on server where the configuration is a loadbalancing for 2 Tomcats I am having problems because frames:after I am connecting to the application I am seeing the first frame a thousand of times (like a cycle).I am using Tomcat 4.x
    Can anybody help me with some ideeas?
    Thank you!

    First off, consider switching to Tomcat 5. The JSP performance alone is worth the switch. It is a much more robust servlet engine than Tomcat 4.
    Second, your frame problem is likely due to loadbalancing directing each frame to a different server. If you like that approach, examine your method for HTTP session replication. How are sessions being replicated between Tomcat instances? (Or even are they?) If you want true perfect load balancing you'll need good session replication.
    If that doesn't work you may consider a loadbalancing scheme involving server affinity, also known as "sticky sessions." That way all requests for a given session will go to the same server. With this scheme your frames will all render properly because they will be served up by the same machine.
    For Tomcat clustering and loadbalancing I recommend Apache with the MOD_JK plugin for tomcat clustering, loadbalancing, and failover. MOD_JK supports both round-robin and sticky session loadbalancing.

    Can anybody help me, please? I need this in a short time for my thesis.

    From the stack trace, it says that the mm.mysql Driver was not found. This means that you have not included the mySQL JDBC driver in your classpath. You have to download the mySQL driver jar file and place that in the "lib" folder under the Tomcat installation. Then, make sure that the said jar file is included in your classpath. Hope this helps

    Tomcat 6.0 and J2EE? Huh? Tomcat 6.0 is a Servlet 2.5 / JSP 2.1 container, which is part of Java EE 5. J2EE is an outdated Java EE specification and Tomcat offers the legacy 4.x and 5.x servers for that. What do you need? Tomcat 6.0 (as being a Java EE 5 server) or Tomcat 4.x/5.x (as being a J2EE server)?
    As Tomcat is written in Java language and Java EE is based on top of Java SE, the answer is obvious. If you check the JRE download page, you'll see that there's a JRE for Windows 2000.
    It look like you're simply new to Java. I would then highly recommend to go through a decent book/tutorial first to avoid that you keep getting yourself in trouble all the time. Good luck.

    We are implementing EP7.0 and I believe we can use logon tickets and SAPSECULIB to integrate all our infrastructure which is Sharepoint (Runs on IIS), our custom J2EE applications (run on Apache webserver and Tomcat).
    Is using of logon tickets and SAPSECULIB the recommended way to accomplish SSO or is there a better way?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Victoria,
    I would put the html file that you generated on the file system
    let say the Apache/Apache/htdocs
    Then I'd put an HTML portlet on the page and show the HTML file using an iframe
    <iframe src="name of your file"
                height="600"
                width="800"
                frameborder="0"
                scrolling="no"
    </iframe>Hope this helps.
    Cheers

    So is context.xml actually overwriting the settings found in server.xml?I think so. The way I understand it is the the context.xml file saves you from having to edit server.xml. It is preferred for each web app to do its own config, rather than lumping them all together in server.xml.
    And what would be the best way to create the war file? IAt its heart, a WAR is just a zip file with its contents laid out in according to the specification of a web application directory structure.
    So the simplest way to make a war file is to zip up your directory structure with a tool like winzip, and rename it to be myApp.war.
    Regarding ant, I would recommend you take a look through [url http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/appdev/index.html
    ]this tutorial. It explains the basics of website layout, configuration and deployment.
    On [url http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/appdev/source.html] this page  in particular, it includes a link to a basic ant file that you can use as a starting point.

  • Need help with tomcat 5.5 and using java classes

    hey there,
    i am trying to set up tomcat 5.5 on my computer at home and have sucessfully done so. i have been trying to use Java classes inside my JSP files however tomcat thows an internal servlet error as follows:
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
    An error occurred at line: 144 in the jsp file: /order.jsp
    Generated servlet error:
    ProductList cannot be resolved to a type
    An error occurred at line: 144 in the jsp file: /order.jsp
    Generated servlet error:
    ProductList cannot be resolved to a type
    An error occurred at line: 144 in the jsp file: /order.jsp
    Generated servlet error:
    Product cannot be resolved to a type
    i have the classes located as the setup tutorial recommends (root/WEB-INF/classes/) and still nothing works. i would appreciate any help anyone can give.
    thanks,

    Which tutorial are you following?
    As of java1.4, all classes must be in packages for them to work in Tomcat. This means your beans and servlets too.
    Put your beans in a package, and then recompile them, and put them in the right place.
    eg
    package com.mypackage
    public class MyClass ...
    once compiled would go into WEB-INF/classes/com/mypackage/MyClass.class
    Are you using Product and ProductList classes in scriptlet code?
    Have you imported them with a page directive
    <%@ page import="com.mypackage.Product, com.mypackage.ProductList" %> ?

  • Bundled Tomcat File Structure and Sun Studio Enterprise 8

    I am having trouble using form authorization with Enterprise 8,
    the bundled Tomcat and MySql.
    Request clarification on what tomcat-users.xml is used by Ent 8.
    I see the following in my configuration:
    1) apache-tomcat-5.5.15-embed/conf/tomcat-users.xml
    2) apache-tomcat-5.5.15/conf/tomcat-users.xml
    3) C:\Program Files\Sun\jstudio_ent8\ide\enterprise1\jakarta-tomcat-5.5.7\conf\tomcat-users.xml
    4) C:\Document and Settings\motel\.jstudio\Ent8\jakarta-tomcat-5.5.7_base\conf\tomcat-users.xml
    I assume the first two are some type of windows cached.
    Further, #3 I assume is initial or default tomcat-user file.
    So is #4 the file that I want to edit so that my IDE can work with Tomcat?
    Thank you for any help and guidance,
    Craig

    I assume the first two are some type of windows cached.
    Further, #3 I assume is initial or default tomcat-user file.I would agree with you; regarding the first two files, it is not clear how they came about since they don't seem to be in either the ide directory or ide-user directory; and also because the directories seem to point to a different version of tomcat, namely 5.15 instead of the ide-bundled 5.7... It is even possible that the first two are not related to JSE ide at all...
    Regarding 3 and 4, your guess is right; 3 is the initial installation directory. This directory is not used by the ide at all for actually working with the tomcat server; this is because the ide-userdir is customizable via the command-line. You can have several user directories at the same time and switch between them by running './runide.exe -userdir <this-sessions-user-dir>'. Naturally the different sessions cannot use the same tomcat server since that would lead to conflicts. So the ide first copies the server installation to the current user directory and then runs the tomcat from there.

  • Tomcat 5.X and creating a Web Application

    To all,
    I've tried to add a new web application to the Tomcat 5.0.X (It is a bundled download with NetBeans, since I can't use Struts directly from the NetBeans IDE, I'm just using the Tomcat to act as the Web App Server)
    My procedures are like this:
    1) create a folder (eg. Struts_Trial) under the Catalina_Home\webapps
    2) add an index.jsp (no xml config files are added by now)
    3) re-start the Tomcat
    4) try to access the web app in a browser (eg. http://localhost:8080/Struts_Trial/index.jsp)
    5) it fails and list out "404 requested resource is not available"
    I remember that adding a new web app is really that simple, but now it seems to be a bit different and I can't figure it out what's wrong or missing (except missing the xml config files)
    From Jason (Kusanaghk)

    If you:
    1) create a folder (eg. Struts_Trial) under the Catalina_Home\webapps
    2) add an index.jsp
    You then need to add a folder called WEB-INF in webapps/Struts_Trial/
    In here put a file called web.xml that looks like:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app
        PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
        "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">
    <web-app>
      <display-name>Test</display-name>
      <description>
         Test
      </description>
      <welcome-file-list>
        <welcome-file/>
      </welcome-file-list>
    </web-app>Now restart tomcat and you should be able to access the page by going to:
    http://localhost:8080/Struts_Trial/index.jsp
    (if you are running tomcat on port 8080)
