Ihave intall tomcat and JDK1.4 in Unix HP. When I launch Tomcat and

I had exactly the same problems when installing Tomcat on an AIX machine. It turned out that the native tar program silently chopped pathnames at 100 bytes, so that a lot of file names got truncated -- no wonder the admin applet was unable to find the files it was looking for. I installed GNU tar and used that instead to untar the distribution, and everything worked fine.

OC4J config file like tomcat-users.xml
Hi,
We are attempting to migrate a customer from tomcat to OC4J. For the demo, the customer has asked to use the listing of roles and users in the tomcat-users.xml file it has. Despite our pleas about security, they want this.
Is there any file in OC4J that corresponds to this file in tomcat???
We are configuring web.xml <login-config>, and assume that there is a similar type of redirect to a user's list in OC4J as is found in tomcat with tomcat-users.xml.

Scott Rappoport, OCPI found the file. Does one have to go through JAZNUserManager to alter the file, or is there a way to add users straight into the jazn-data.xml file? I tried to alter the file and add the roles and users from the tomcat file, but I still get a 403 error --
Error initializing security, security-role not found: auth-user-2.
I also altered the principal.xml file, but to no avail.
I am using the OC4J stand-alone version; I note in the J2EE User's Guide (chap 8, security) that there is a User Manager page available from the OC4J home page. Is this available in stand-alone? I have opened the http server port 7778, but found no mod_oc4j in the list; Going to the OC4J port 8888 gives me the samples one would find in tomcat.
One wonders if we need the core 9iAS with EM? Is there any way to stay with the lightweight stand-alone version for now to config this?
Any ideas?

I'm trying to do the security management with the tomcat users, there're 3 ways to do that:
1-using the tomcatusers dinamically. But the problem i have is that if a new user is added, tomcat must be restarted to find it :-(
2-the other one is to do it with a DB, you must write in tomcat's config.xml where your DB is and which are the names of the tables and fields (users, passwords, roles...). But the problem i have is that tomcat doesn't look at theese tables, it never mind what i write there or if i write a non-existing name cause tomcat doesn't do anything with them.
3-finally using jndi (or something like that) but i'd like to use the 2nd one.

I've got 2 Realms (one for standalone and another one for apache), anyway it's the predefined tomcat's server.xml, i've just changed realms to look in the DB.

How to create tomcat user and directory structure
I am new in using tomcat, recently installed tomcat 5.0 but don't know how to use it and how to view sample jsp pages. I tried tomcat_users.xml file to create user, but anybody knows the different roles used there? if yes, olease provide.

JitendrarcYou dont need to use a user account to access the example pages.
You need to start the server using startup.bat / sh or the tomcat monitor and access http://localhost
When you connect to localhost you will see a link to the examples.
Also at the top of the page you will se a link to Tomcat Administration, you can use this to add new users, instead of editing the xml by hand. I cannot remember the default password, Im sure its in the documentation (link in centre of page).
For an open source project the documentation and tutorials are pretty good, would suggest you always start with this inforamation before looking for answers in forums. -
How Do I Batch Delete Instances (Non-Tomcat User)
I ran into that issue with the DST screwing up our scheduled reports and didn't notice until today. I started reading all over and found the notes in the SAP KB. I did find the tool that would help me batch delete the failed instances however it looks like it's using Tomcat. Is there another KB article that has the code for IIS users?
As far as I know the tool will help you to reschedule the instances in a neutral way but it has to be used before the problem occurs.
In your case you have generic 2 options:
1) Use the Instance manager in the CMC to erase the failed instances.
2) Set a limit for the number of instances either at the top level of the public and the personal folders or directly on the folder they failed reports reside. This will trigger the automatic deletion of instances in your system. Depending on the locaiton where you set this you have to be carefull since succesfull instances may also be imnpacted.

In tomcat,User took so long to log on the session expired

Whenever i try to login into the web application, the page will stop at http://localhost:8080/test/en/authorize, then nothing happen.
The user name and password are correct. This is what i get in log file:

Limitation Concurrent User in BlazeDs or Tomcat

My team have a some problem, when our user has reached about 25-30 user at one time, our application cannot send message to blazeds. Is there a limitation for tomcat user? and how to setting it? I already setting user <max-streaming-clients>500</max-streaming-clients> in services.config.xml. Or maybe we not configure properly. Can we get an appropriate setting for max user number in tomcat or blazeds?

TimIf you can get it to work, the Designer Web Assistant should provide unlimited user, read-only access via a web-browser. That was one of our reasons for installing it. However, I cannot determine when the 6i version will be available, and it has not executed successfully yet.

Trying to set up multiple users, multiple roles in Tomcat
I've been learning webapps by making a webapp for the school where my wife works -- to manage assigning students to the rotating schedule of art periods throughout the year. Lots of fun and very good learning. I bought a Tomcat book, installed Tomcat 4.1.24, and have been writing html, jsp's, servlets, etc.
I've got a good deal of it working. Now I see that there will be areas of the app where it makes sense to restrict access to only those who have the roles -- the teacher who does the basic assignments work will have "manage" role, my wife who works in admissions will have "admin" access to the areas that allow students to be added to the database, general users will have access to areas where information is available but they can't change things. That sort of security planning.
I'm not worried about industrial strength security. It's a nice place, no big security worries with the students, it's not on the web, just the school's local network. So I plan to use Tomcat's BASIC auth, and I've tried to set it up in the tomcat-users.xml and the webapp's web.xml.
So I have 3 roles in tomcat-users.xml - user, manage, and admin. There would be a general user, named "user" with user role. That one could get in to the opening page, and to any other page not further restricted. The teacher would have "user" role to get in, and "manage" role to get to those pages that involve assignment tasks. My wife would have "user" to get in, and "admin" for admin stuff. A user would be blocked at the "secure" pages, but having logged in with both roles, the teacher and my wife would get them without further authentication.

Tomcat is not big on security. It doesn't have good security in standalone mode.Whenever I used Tomcat, another web server like Apache was used to provide authentication. This doesn't answer questions but you know at least not to expect too much.

How to log in Tomcat administration page

Tomcat's servlets/JSPs execute fine, but Tomcat denies access to the Tomcat Manager, Tomcat Administration to log in for web application with database connection.
The respective webapps and manager.xml and admin.xml are available and seem to look fine.
Tomcat even seems to log in my default user

I have a problem with JDBC Realm in Tomcat/Oracle/Win XP
I have a problem with JDBC Realm in Tomcat.
I have attached my server.xml file located in the
C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.5\conf\server.xml
The Problem is that when I login I get the user name and password prompt but it does not resolve.
When I enter in the tomcat-users.xml password with memory realm uncommented it works fine.
C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.5\conf\tomcat-users.xml
Is there a cache or something I need to reset for the JDBC Realm to work?
I have attached my tables and contents as well...
Did I miss something????

URGENT HELP NEEDED ... Tomcat Realm and JRE1.4 plug-in problem
I have tried the Security Realm of Tomcat. Since I do not have
an LDAP server, I decided to use the Tomcat-users.xml file in
Tomcat\conf directory.
I added the following lines of code in the web.xml file.

But the problem now is, this default.htm page, has 5 links to 5 applets. The first time that I click on one of these links, the JRE plug of 1.4 shows a dialog again asking for the username and password. Till I dont provide the username and password the system doesnt go ahead and applet doesnt load. I do not want the JRE to ask me for the username/passwords again..How to avoid this ?
Can you give me some more information on this. Ultimately in the production usage, we will be using LDAP and not Tomcat's memory realm.

Help would be v. much appreciated.In the config file, you 're essentially saying that you want Tomcat to prompt for usr/passw on every request (url-pattern = /*) made by a 'webviewer', and that's exactly what Tomcat is doing.
Consider using specific url-patterns & roles for resources to be protected. If for now, all you need is to protect the first page, use a more specific url-pattern.
Just an advice : if you'll be using LDAP in production, do not waste time with Tomcat's Security Realm and the BASIC authentication type, since the two have not much in common. Start reading doc on LDAP, and code a prototype, or even better, a vertical slice of the app (i.e a proof of concept). -
Problem with Configuring Tomcat for running jsp web applications..Plz HELP
I am using Tomcat 5.5 and Jdk 1.5.0_12 and Oracle 10g. I am using jdbc-odbc bridge connection
to connect to the database. I have placed my project folder called
tdm under the webapps folder in Tomcat. This 'tdm' folder consists of
a collection of html pages,jsp pages and images of my project. Also I created a
WEB-INF folderand in that I have lib folder which contains catalina-root.jar

I have set the context path to /tdm in the server.xml file. Should this be placed in context.xml?
My first page in the project is called Homepage.html. To start my project I give http://localhost:5050/tdm/homepage.html
in a browser. Here I accept a username and password from the user and then do the validation in
a valid.jsp file, where I connect to the database and check and use jsp:forward to go to next pages
accordingly. However when I enter the username and password and click Go in the homepage, nothing is
displayed on the next page. The URL in the browser says valid.jsp but a blank screen appears.
WHY DOES IT HAPPEN SO? DOES IT MEAN THAT TOMCAT IS NOT RECOGNIZING JAVA IN MY SYSTEM OR IS IT A PROBLEM
WITH THE DATABASE CONNECTION OR SOMETHING ELSE? I FEEL THAT TOMCAT IS NOT EXECUTING JSP COMMANDS?

WEB-INF folderand in that I have lib folder which contains catalina-root.jar
, classes12.jar and nls_charset.jar files. And also in the WEB-INF folder I have the web.xml

Hi, Plz help me.. During export and import of updated/added objects to production, do we need to create the dataservers manually or else how can it be managed for an existing object??? Thanks..
