Too many digits of precision in imported data

I store some data in a TDMS file that has four digits of precision. When I recall the data in DIAdem or import it into Excel there are many more digits there than I want. Do I just have to live with that or is there a way to limit the number of digits to just what I want?
George

Hi George,
Are you saving the TDMS file with LabVIEW or DIAdem?  In LabVIEW, you wire a data array of a particular data type to be written to the TDMS file, so the precision used on disk will match that of the data type.  So if you're currently wiring a DBL type, converting that array to a SGL type prior to writing the array to TDMS will reduce the precision (and the disk footprint), though it may not reduce it enough for your taste.  If you are wiring waveforms to the TDMS file, I believe you are stuck with DBL precision.
If you are saving the TDMS file in DIAdem, and if you have DIAdem 10.1, then you have the option of using the new ChnQuantize() function to limit the resolution of the data both inside of DIAdem and when you save it to disk.  Unfortunately, DIAdem 10.1 has a bug for TDMS output when using custom quantization, though this will be fixed in the upcoming DIAdem 10.1 SP1.  Still, this doesn't necessarily reduce the number of displayed digits, it just reduces the accuracy so that similar values can be saved in a smaller binary footprint.  So this may not be what you're after.
Regardless of the resolution of the saved binary data, DIAdem loads all channel values as DBLs in the Data Portal, and it displays all the digits of precision corresponding to the DBL value it has in memory.  However, you can always change the displayed format of a channel value in a VIEW or REPORT table by changing that column's format string.  Try "d.ddd" or "d.ddde" for instance.

  • Texts keep getting returned--too many digits error, pls help

    Hi, everyone!
I upgraded to 4.3.3, yesterday so far no problems, except this morning my phone started to send me an error message every time I send a text and says "this message could not be sent, you've entered too many digits." How do I fix this? And the number it shows is an 11-digit number because it adds the 1...
Does anyone know what I can do?

Error executeQueryForObject returned too many results
    Typical Error msg:
“SqlMapClient operation; uncategorized SQLException for SQL []; SQL state [null]; error code [0]; Error: executeQueryForObject returned too many results.; nested exception is java.sql.SQLException: Error: executeQueryForObject returned too many results”
The error is caused for using queryForObject (for a single result) instead of queryForList (when expecting multiple results).
    Example of correct solution
    In DAO:
    public List<UpdatedContractRateDO> getUpdatedCtrctRate(Map paramMap) throws DataAccessException {
    return (List<UpdatedContractRateDO>) getSqlMapClientTemplate().queryForList("charge.getUpdatedCtrctRate", paramMap);
    }

  • Too many digits in log scale

I thought I had reported it before - but couldn't find the post nor a known issue...
I have a XY graph with plotted waveforms. All fine. Then I change the Y scale from lin to log and the mess happens, see below.
The left image shows the graph border with a linear Y scale, the right image after changing programmatically to log scale
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    OK,
I was playing more and can add some details, hopefully sufficient to reproduce the issue:
Plotted is a Gaussian with the parameters 1.0, 3.0e-3, 2.0e-5. For these values changing map mode to log scale works correctly. Now, if I replot the waveform with changed parameters (0.999, 3.0e-3, 2.0e-5), i.e. a slightly reduced amplitude, log scale goes wrong.
Adding the attribute of 0 precision as kindly suggested by Roberto helps to remove the many digits, but it does not help with respect to the number of labels and the issue of identical labels (see the second graph below).
In a next step I replotted the graph, now with the original parameters, but the log scale does not revert to the correct scaling, although formally the identical function is plotted.
If I change the amplitude parameter of my Gaussian function to 10.0 I get a different scaling, but overall it is not much better: Somehow, some decades are omitted, there is no major tick for 100000, 10000, 1000, 100, 10 - only the 1 and two times a mysterious 0. (third graph below)

    Hi,
I think this article explain it:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/excel/bubble-and-scatter-charts-in-power-view-HA104017427.aspx
Tip    Pick a category that doesn’t have too many values. If the category has more than 2,000 values, you see a note that the chart is “showing representative sample” rather than all the categories.

  • Too many digits in date display?

This is an intermittent problem, and I've observed it under recent OS 10.n releases. When clicking on the finder menu item for day & time, OS displays day, month, day #, year, and format preferences. Occasionally the day # and year appear as a long string of apparently unrelated numbers. Is this unique to my Mac, or have others experienced it? Is there a fix?

NSMenuExtra-based menu extras operate within the address space of the SystemUIServer so faulty code in a menu extra could cause instability in a core part of the operating system.
open terminal and paste the command:
    killall SystemUIServer
and return. This command will kill the process and MacOS X will automatically rebuild the menu bar. Hopefully problem solved clearing out old cache.

  • Aperture 3: too many keywords after A2 library import

    Hi *,
I'm currently trying to migrate my Aperture 2 library to Aperture 3. Apart from the usual problems (like not enough disk space even though I have plenty) I noticed that my keyword list has changed after the import:
in A2 I had neatly organized folder and subfolders for my keywords, but in A3 the top level of the hierarchy is clustered with seemingly random keywords from my pictures. And sometimes even keywords that look completely unfamiliar. It seems that A3 fails to always sort the found keywords correctly into the subfolders.
Has anyone else noticed that? Am I doing somethign wrong in the import?
    BR/Joern

I had the same issue. I thought that it was because of the Faces feature (before I turned it off) adding new keywords. But going through some of them, it seems that A3 picked up some ancient keywords I had in my older photos when I was using iViewMedia before A1.
Anyways, 30 min of work to delete or merge keywords and all's well.

  • Setting the digits of precision for TDMS logging

I can't seem to figure out a way to set the digits of precision when logging data to a TDMS file. I'm hopping to be able to reduce the file size by doing this. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Cosimo
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The data in a TDMS file is binary.  So you can't set the digits of precision.  If you want to make smaller files, then cast your data to Singles instead of Doubles.  You will have 1/2 the resolution, but use 1/2 the bits on disk.

  • How do I open a library book on a recently acquired Samsung Nook?  I get "too many activations" error. I have an active adobe digital editions and my other devices work fine.  Custumer Support was unable to get the new device activated.

I have a library book on the bookshelf of a newly acquired Samsung Nook but I cannot open it.  My other devices work fine but I cannot activate the new unit.  I get a "too many activations" error message.  Customer Services say I have a valid license but they deemed my problem to be a technical issue and referred me to the forum.  Thanks

Step 1 - by trial and error...
So far, I have been able to create physical files containing MP3 and JPG on the NAS using the Windows XP systems to copy from shared locations on the Vista and Win7 boxes.  This process has been aided by the use of a 600 GB SATA 2 capable hard drive enclosure.  I first attach to Win 7 or Win Vista and reboot to see the local drive spaces formatted on the portable device.  Then I copy files from the user's private directories to the public drive space.  When the portable drive is wired to an XP box, I can use Windows to move the files from the portable device to the NAS without any of the more advanced file attributes being copied to the NAS.  Once the files are on the NAS, I can add the new folder(s) to iTunes on any of the computers and voila, the data becomes sharable via iTunes.  So far, this works for anything that I have completely purchased, or for MP3's I made from the AIC files created when I purchased alblums via iTunes.
I have three huge boxes full of vynl records I've accumulated.  The ones that I've successfully digitized via a turntable attached to the sound card on one of my computers and third party software, have found their way to the NAS after being imported into iTunes and using it to bring down available album art work.  In general I've been reasonably well pleased with the sound quality of digital MP3 files created this way, but the software I've been using sometimes has serious problems automatically separating individual songs from the album tracks and re-converting "one at a time" isn't very efficient.

  • How can I import data in to the digital word generator in Multisim?

How can I import data in to the digital word generator in Multisim?
I just  received this comment from a friend, a RADAR engineer, who has just down loaded Multisim.  He has been using HP/Agilent software.  He has a work around using a piecewise linear voltage waveform with data imported from Excel but this is not really a good solution.  It would also be helpful to import data from Mathcad or equivalent.
"I thought I was about to be impressed with MultiSim but it ended only in disappointment. There is a word generator in the simulation instrument panel which can drive the DAC with a waveform and it can have thousands of lines of values. I opened Excel, wrote the formula to generate the time and voltage points for a chirp, converted to DAC values in Hex and then went back to the word generator in MultiSim to load the values only to find that you have to enter each value manually. It doesn’t even allow you to paste in a list of values from a text file. I’m not going to type 5000 values by hand. If you get the chance to give feedback to National Instruments please ask them if the paste option can be added to the word generator. MultiSim is useful in many regards, but in this case, it left me with the impression that it is considerably limited in capability compared to what I’m used to."

    Hi,
You can load your data automatically in the Multisim word generator. Follow these steps:
    - Save your data file (in excel .xslx ir .csv format) on your computer
    - Change the extension of the file to ".dp"
    - Double-click the word generator in Multisim and click on Set...
    - In the Settings dialog box, click on Load and then Accept
    - This will prompt you to select the .dp file you have on your computer, select it and you're good to go
However, in Multisim you have the option of creating your own custom simulation analysis and instrument.
I will try creating the instrument and send it back to you but it might take some time.
Multisim and LabVIEW are very powerful in test automation, with the custom instruments you create for Multisim you don't need to export your data file into excel from LabVIEW (or MathCAD or other tools) and then reload it into Multisim. The test procedure is automated instead.
Please check this reference design about automated simulation
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/7825
Here is how you can create your own custom measurement tool in Multisim and LabVIEW, but as I mentioned, I will create the word generator and come back to you anyways

I too am getting this error in Premiere CS5.  I was digitizing a Broadcast VHS and since I did not have a breakout box, I hooked it up to a Sony DV deck so I could connect via firewire and capture inside Premiere.  I was able to capture and import 1 of the 3 clips and it did have 4 audio channels attached to it.  However, upon closer inspection only 2 channels had a waveform.  I captured the other 2 clips the same way, but this time, Premiere give the error "The file contains too many audio channels."
    Any ideas?

/Originally, I had just the one function with VARCHAR2 arguments. This failed to work properly because when dates were passed in, the automatic conversion to VARCHAR2 was dropping the timestamp. So, I added a 2nd function with DATE arguments. Then I started getting "too many declarations of is_same exist" error when passing TIMESTAMPs. This made no sense to me, so even though Oracle's documentation says you cannot do it, I created a 3rd version of the function, to handle TIMESTAMPS explicitly. Surprisingly, it works fine. But then I noticed it didn't work with TIMESTAMP with TIME ZONEs. Hence, the fourth version of the function. Oracle's docs say that if your arguments are of the same type family, you cannot create an overloaded function, but as the example above shows, this is very wrong.
Lastly, just for grins, I created the two number functions, one with NUMBER, the other with REAL, and even these are allowed - they compile. But then at run time, it fails. I'm really confused.
Here is the apparently incorrect Oracle documentation on the matter: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B12037_01/appdev.101/b10807/08_subs.htm (see overloading subprogram names), and here are the various types and their families: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e17126/predefined.htm.

That is because when you pass a TIMESTAMP Oracle cannot determine whether to implicitly convert it to VARCHAR2 and use your first function or implicitly convert it to DATE and use your second function. Hence the 'too many declarations' exist error.

Possibly because of another 'too many declarations' error? Because now there would be THREE possible implicit conversions that could be done.

I think the documentation, for the 'date' family, is wrong as you suggest. For INTEGER and REAL the issue is that those are ANSI data types and are really the same Oracle datatype; they are more like 'aliases' than different datatypes.
    See the SQL Language doc

    ANSI, DB2, and SQL/DS Datatypes
SQL statements that create tables and clusters can also use ANSI datatypes and datatypes from the IBM products SQL/DS and DB2. Oracle recognizes the ANSI or IBM datatype name that differs from the Oracle Database datatype name. It converts the datatype to the equivalent Oracle datatype, records the Oracle datatype as the name of the column datatype, and stores the column data in the Oracle datatype based on the conversions shown in the tables that follow.

Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive with import date not created date, but many of these same files are not showing up in Aperture. Sometimes the clips actually show up with the current import but take on the video information from a previously imported file.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!
