Too many edits in multi-cam a problem?

I'm editing a 30 minute piece with 3 cameras and there are a lot of quick cuts.  All went well till I got to the 20 minute mark and the multicam edit window started lagging.  In other words, I'd push one of the 1, 2 or 3 keys to choose a source and the red border would take a noticeable time to move.  I'm not sure if the edit occurred at the point I hit the key or the point the red border moved.  I've got a new Win 7, x64 machine with 6GB and tons of disk, captured footage on RAID0.  Restarting PP and rebooting don't help.  Splitting the sequence I'm editing into two parts seems to fix the problem, implying when you get to too many edit points the multicam feature bogs down.  Anyone else see this?   Is there some tuning that might reduce this effect?

This is on CS4, latest updates.

  • Multi camera synchronization problems on Premier CC

    Hi
I'm working on PC. I've encountered a lot of problems in working on multi camera in Adobe Premiere CC. Could anybody could help me solve these problems?
1- when I work on Multi camera, after doing some edits, when I put some inserts in upper layers, the synchronization (sound-film) gets lost.
2- In working on Multi camera, after lots of edit and choosing of different cameras, when I close and reopen the project, the edit points are still there, but the image is from elsewhere (not sync at all) and you've actually lost all the time you made edits.
3- In another example: after using some cameras and doing some edits on Multi camera, when I closed and then reopened the project, all of that layer was back on one camera (camera 3).
    Thanks, Jim.

Is the "linked selection" icon selected or not? You can find that on the top right of your timeline. Toggling it allows you to drop a nested sequence (eg. multicam) on a timeline as either one single nested clip or as the expanded view with all the clips showing which it sounds like you are referring to. It's the middle icon here:
    Good luck!

Aah, looked a bit further and it seems to be a bug in the program! Looks like I have to start again!!!

  • Editing using Multi-cam option

I have to edit a show I did not shoot- 3 panasonic AF100A  cameras supposedly synched TC wise, with the main camera receiving a feed the show audio board. Each camera has a different view, so I obviously want to pick and choose the best coverage to make a lean looking show a tad better. I've been told the best option is to edit in multi-camera mode. True? Using an iMac, with show files on an external HD. I imported each of the files into the project by clicking the 'private' folder for each. Then I selected them all, selected multicam option and then show in timeline. Couple of questions: do I need to sync the beginning of each clip or does the TC take care of that? It appears my main video and audio track is off a bit- should I just pull all the tracks as far to the left as possible to ensure timeline synching?
How do I view each camera at the same time, so I can compare footage?
I'm not ignorant, I just haven't used Premiere in years and I'm primarily a shooter, so any help  or advice is appreciated

  • Multi cam play problem

what i want to do is edit multi-cam on the fly. my footage is dvcpro hd 720p 59.94 that i captured through kona. i have set up a raid 0 for my my 3 internal 1tb hard drives. i have 4 cams that i have multiclipped. for the most part, the multiclip plays fine in the viewer. however after i edit it into the sequence, select multiclip in the button bar and set the playback head to open, it tells me it's unrendered in both the viewer and canvas and won't play the picture. also i frequently get the dropped frame error warning. when i deselect multiclip playback on the timeline, the sequence does play, but the quad split only advances when i pause which isn't all that useful. on avid with this particular footage format i could step down the playback quality (from green to yellow) and the quad split would play fine though blurry. in any case, does anyone have any ideas. thanks.

Did you try what the Unlimited RT setting?
The multiclip threshold is dependent upon your system. Based on your OP, it seems as if you have the drives for it, but what about your computer?
I was able to use 7 clips of 1080i Pro Res content in a multiclip before I got an orange (unlimited RT) line above my footage.

  • Editing A Multi Camera Shoot

Can someone point me to a nice tutorial on how to set up my multi camera shoot files so that I can do a mock "live switch" on my FCP? I am tinkering with the "Make Multi Clip" set up, but I just can't seem to figure out how to view the three cameras, make camera angle selections, etc.
    Thanks,

its not as hard as it may at first appear Pete
    1. open each of your 3 clips in the viewer and mark an In point on an easily identified frame (clapper, camera flash, blink etc)
    2. select the 3 clips in the browser and choose Modify menu > Make Multicip
    3. in the multiclip window's popup menu tell it to sync on In point and click OK
    4. drag the multiclip you just made ( the clip with its name in italics )
    5. set the View menu > Playhead Sync > Open
thats it ... now you should see your 3 clips displaying simultaneously in a 4 up display in the viewer

  • Adobe Prem 5.5 PC - Editing a multi camera & audio Concert into separate songs without losing sync

I have just finished completing a full synchronisation of multiple cameras and audio sources that took some imense amount of time to finish - phew!
Now I need to edt this into 11 separate songs, each with its own opening and closing titles.
I cannot easily cut in or using ripple delete or another cutting tool to change this without the calamity of losing sync.
I almost need to save this whole project as a scene and then re import it as another sequesnce and just cut it to suit each song but still not sure what method for saving it as I do not want to drop a generation.
Or should I copy and paste into a new sequence but then sync is a problem as soon as I cut it !!
Anyone who might have had experience of such a heavy workload of a project that could offer some advice, would be most welcome please.
In an older editing system, I was just able to save as a scene - just not sure with Premiere.
I have 5 or 6 video tracks and a similiar number of audio tracks so far, so worried about the sync issue now.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Alan

I'm sure you're way ahead of me, but my simple question is stacking and synching your various cameras and using multi-edit wasn't what you wanted?

  • TOO many activations - looks like everyone has problem

    My case number is
    Case #0181489003
I've been waiting since March 13. Still waiting to get it reset.
If so many people are having this problem why isn't adobe trying to fix it? Is it b/c it is a free program?
    Thanks

As a note to anybody submitting a support case for E_ACT_TOO_MANY_ACIVATIONS, provide both the AdobeID you are using the activate Digital Editions as well as the full and exact error message (with all the number/letters) and it will help get the problem resolved in a timely fashion.
Such as in this case, although she opened the case on 3/13, and it was responded to with a request for her AdobeID within two hours, to which she responded with the AdobeID on 3/15 (2 days later).  The expected close rate after the correct information has been recieved is 3-5 days, and this has already been bumped up to the appropriate level and should be taken care of shortly, so I'm not going to jostle support's elbows on this one.

  • Can having too many emails stored in Mail cause problems?

I've got over 3,800 emails in my inbox and I sometimes have problems with Mail not starting. My mail is stored in iCloud (so I can access them across all my Apple devices) but I also have a lot of old emails just stored on my Mac.
Should I just archive old important emails on my Mac as well as deleting unwanted emails? Will that improve the performance of Mail? Would having a lot of old emails just stored on my Mac affect the performance of Mail on my Mac?
    Thanks.

  • Editing multi-camera in CS6

    Looking for this page:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/editing-multi-camera-sequences.html
But for CS6, not CS5.5 and earlier. This stuff has changed for CS6, but I can't seem to find the help documents that talk about it, and we don't yet have the PDFs to look stuff up in. Anyone show me where to find it?

There is a pretty simple way to sync multiple tracks of video on the timeline using unnumbered clip markers.  Basically you find the frame in each track you want the all the tracks to sync to and in each track add an unnumber marker at that point.  Then there is a command that will move the tracks to line up those unnumbered markers and, shazam, you are synced!  Here is an excerpt from a help discussion from Adobe:
    Synchronize clips with markers
Make sure that you’ve marked the sync points for each camera’s footage before you attempt to synchronize them. You can mark the sync points by setting similarly numbered markers for each clip or by reassigning each clip’s timecode. (See Add markers and Set timecode manually for a clip.)
Note:  Premiere Pro uses an overwrite edit when synchronizing clips. Take care not to overwrite adjacent clips if you have multiple clips on the same track.
Select the clips you want to synchronize.
Target a track (by clicking its track header) to align the other clips to it. For example, if you synchronize clips on their Out point, the end of each clip aligns with the Out point of the targeted track. A clip will be trimmed if synchronization causes its In point to fall before the sequence zero point.
Note:  If one track of a linked audio/video pair is unselected, the pair will become out of sync. Out-of-sync indicators will appear on the clips.
Choose Clip > Synchronize, and then choose one of the following options:
    Clip Start
Synchronizes clips at their In points.
    Clip End
Synchronizes clips at their Out points.
    Timecode
Synchronizes clips to the specified timecode. If you use the hours value in source timecode as a camera designator, select the Ignore Hours option to use only minutes, seconds, and frames to synchronize clips.
    Numbered Clip Marker
Synchronizes clips to the specified numbered clip marker. Choose the marker number to use from the Marker menu.
You can also use the Synchronize command to sync several video clips on separate tracks or unlinked audio and video tracks when you are not editing a multi-camera sequence.

  • No audio in multi-cam edit

I finally managed a near perfect sync of my 3 sources and am ready to do the multi-cam edit thing. Except, when I bring the source sequence into the multi-cam sequence and enable the source sequence for multi-cam, there's no audio when i go play it or edit in multi-cam.
    Anyone know what's going on?
Thanks for any help you can throw at me,

  • Need help with the new Multi-cam feature in CC

    Hi,
I'm trying to use the Multi-cam feature in CC and have a few questions, so would be happy with help/advice for any of the issues below. The platform is Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
The first question is what am I doing wrong? This question relates to the fact I'm trying to use Multi-cam and encountering a lot of frustrating glitches, as sometimes it seems to work and at others it doesn't.
The video I'm trying to edit comes from a dance show so I created a sequence called Act 1. I then highlighted the six clips of Act 1 with Cam 01 at the top, as I wanted the audio from this clip and made a Multi-cam feature using the audio synch. I dragged it to the sequence, set the prog window to Multi-cam and was amazed at how well it had synchronised all clips, as I could see all six clips with great audio synch from Cam 01. So far so good and after thinking how brilliant it was, things went downhill from there
I started by using ripple delete to drag to the start of Act one and then tried editing with Multi-cam. That's where I encountered the first problem, as sometimes it seemed to toggle between cams but didn't put edit points in and the selected cam had a yellow border and not a red one. At other times it inserted edit points when I changed cams and the selected cam has a red border. I can't work out what I'm doing, or not doing for this to happen. Can anyone help please?
The second question is how do I cut audio and video at exactly the same point, as I want to edit out pauses in between the different elements of the actual dance show. When I use the razor tool in Multi-cam it only cuts the video. I tried highliting audio and video using shift, but to no effect. If it matters audio and video are shown as linked when I right click. I thought I might get it to work if I revealed all original clips within the MC nest using the technique shown in "Adobe Learn." This was Ctrl double click, but it resulted in the third problem.
When I tried Ctrl double click I ended up with only Cam 02 showing in the V2 track and after some frustrating attempts at resolving this issue I decided to start all over again. I deleted the PP project and created a new one, importing everything again. I followed exactly the same procedure as I originally did to create a Multi-cam nest, but when I dragged it to the new sequence I saw Cam 02 in V2 of the sequence, which is the same as it was before I deleted the original project. Premiere Pro seems to have annoyingly remembered the actions that went wrong, so please can anyone tell me how to tell Premiere Pro not to do this?
Thanks if anyone can help me on any of the issues.

In Premiere Pro, multi-camera is accomplished by nesting a sequence.  There's a new, more automated way of doing this in CC.  View the steps here: http://blogs.adobe.com/premierepro/2013/04/a-quick-walkthrough-of-editing-a-multi-camera-s equence-with-clips-synchronized-by-audio.html
HOWEVER, you must be warned that multi-cam in CC is currently broken.  A patch is in the works, but until it is released you should not use multi-cam in CC.

  • Multi cam synced, can't create the new seq from clip

multi cam work flow.  trying to follow through the tutorials and help - but stuck.  I have synced 2 cams with audio, next step says to create new sequence from clip - but when I do all I get is a 1 second sequence (it should have been 15mins.  Tried all the methods listed, now randomly trying select all, targets tracks, etc, ?

    edit -
That helped, back at it - thanks.  New trouble -  although I can now make the multi-cam target sequence of the correct duration, I move into program monitor for editing the multi cam display enabled, the separate sources/cams no longer show in the window...  it's just blank.  I've checked my vid drivers- up to date with manufacturer (not windows) updates.

  • CS5.5 Multi-cam monitor

    Hey all,
I am editing a multi-camera piece in my sequence and using the multi-cam monitor to see the other angles. The only thing is that I can only get realtime playback on the preview window and not in the multi-cam window, it only updates in the multi-cam window once playback has stopped.
Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks in advance

    Jim Simon wrote:

Those aren't the right terms.  On the left you see the "angles".  On the right you see the "preview".  The Program Monitor is a separate thing and not part of the Multicam window.
With the Multicam window open, the Program Monitor will not update during recording or playback.  The angles and preview inside the multicam window should play fine.  Are you saying they don't?
Well I guess I'm what they call old school.   In my world as sports truck Director and Technical Diretor, anywhere you see your sources before putting them to air is "preview" and anywhere where you see the output is program.  I'm not sure, though, why the industry has to reinvent the wheel and change terminology from what it's been for years.  Guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
At any rate, to answer your second question... no they do not play fine in the multicam windows.  I do see all four sources in your "angles" pane on the left and the output in the "preview" pane on the right.  When I hit play in the multicam window they play fine for about half to one second both panes begin to intermittently freeze for about another second then they both freeze completely.  I can shuttle (scrub in your world) through the main sequence and the multicam window will play with some jerkiness but it's not stable enough to be useful.  If I hit play on the main sequence window both the program and the multicam windows will play but will do the same lockup thing after a couple of seconds.
I'm just copying my project off of my external drive to the internal drive to see if that helps things out.  I'll update when that's done in an hour or so.

  • Rapid Tapeless Multi-camera workflow with OnLocation

I am wondering whether anyone is using OnLocation for rapid (read almost instant) tapeless workflow.
What I would like to do is:
1 - Use 4 Sony V1U HDV cameras and ISO record all of them as HDV files.
2 - Record the ISO on four separate laptops running OnLocation via a Firewire feed from each camera.
3 - Store the clips (as they are being recorded) onto four external eSATA drives (one for each camera/laptop combo)
4 - After 90 minute recording is complete, move the four external eSATA drives to a central workstation running CS4 and equipped with 4 eSATA ports.
5 - Then WITHOUT copying the files from the external drives, immediately start editing a multi-cam session.
    Can I do this?
    Are there any "gotcha's?"
What kind of of pre-processing of the clips is necessary if any?  (audio or video "conforming"?)
Does timecode stay with the files?
How long after I mount the drives might I be ready to start editing?  1 minute?  5 minutes 1 hour or more?
I need to do a FAST turnaround, but cannot do a live switch.......
    Thanks!
    Mike Fayette

That actually sounds pretty cool. The only question I'd maybe ask is what is cheaper: 4 laptops with onlocation, or 4 solid state recording devices for your cameras (like Convergent's little one which records from the HD-SDI port of the camera)?
If you need the functionality of OL, like scopes and what not, then sure it sounds like it's the way to go. Just sayin there may be alternatives?
    http://www.convergent-design.com/CD_Products_nanoFlash.htm
But I saw a handful of others along this line at NAB last year.
