Top command not reco

Hi OTN Forum
I have a box Linux RHAS3 with OracleDB10g, this box have 2 CPU's, but when I execute the top only show 1, this is the display:
[oracle@ora2 oracle]$ top

Swap: 8192632k av, 1135956k used, 7056676k free 1139728k cached
Why don`t display none CPU?
The EM show 1 CPU:

In other box Linux too with OracleDB10g I have two 2 CPU's and display the follow:

Please, any ideas of how to resolve this problem or how to know how many CPU's really I have? Why the Linux and Oracle don`t use or don`t show the other CPU?
Thanks in advance and regards
Wilson

In other box Linux too with OracleDB10g I have two 2 CPU's and display the follow:
Why display cpu00, cpu01, cpu02 and cpu03?
Please, any ideas of how to resolve this problem or how to know how many CPU's really I have? Answer is simple. You have 2 CPUs with hyperthreading and this behave as 4 processors.
execute following command from shell:
cat /proc/cpuinfo
Why the Linux and Oracle don`t use or don`t show the other CPU?Keep in mind: don't show != don't use
Maybe Oracle application does not know detect other procesors or hyperthreaded processors but it does not mean that don't use them.

Total RAM as seen from top command is 12G.
*2569836* - Total RAM which is being used currently .
How can I see the total RAM used by all Oracle Processes running in this server. The server is Linux X86 64 Bit. Can I sum up the values under 'VIRT' column of 'top' command to see the total RAM used ?
Is there a way to see the total RAM and CPU used by Oracle from top ?
'VIRT' is the virtual memory - In what way is this related to the figure above, which is the physical memory (RAM) ?
    Thanks in Advance

Oracle used shared memory to implement the SGA, which constituted the largest memory consumption of the Oracle instance. The problem is that in many modern OS, including linux, it is hard to define the actual memory usage fo a software. This is because the memory used by a process is actually composed of shared (e.g., shared memory, shared library, executable code) and private (e.g., the heap, the stack) components. Utilities like top, ps, etc reports all memory visible by a process, disregarding whether it is shared or not. As a result, the total of VIRT etc will be inflated by the shared components. For a more accurate figure of memory usage, shared memory / library / code should be counted once.
Before 11g, Oracle used System V ipc, and the amount of memory allocated can be checked using ipcs. In 11g, Oracle switched to /dev/shm, use df to check the memory allocation. (Thanks user11150436)
The "Mem used" figure in top is the actual usage of the memory: shared memory and library are not multi-counted. However, Linux will always cache (read before actually requested) and buffer (write after signalling completion) disk I/O. Therefore, "Mem used" is almost always very close to the amount of physical memory. "Mem used" - "buffers" - "cached" reflects the memory actually used by the OS and all programs more accuately.
And you can use the pmap utility to check the memory map. Then you classify the sharable and unsharable memory usage to calculate a more accurate result suiting your need. You need OS knowledge to understand the output.

I have an Exchange 2010 server that seems to be rejecting some emails from external domains with 550 5.7.1 Command Not Allowed. I've taken a look at the SMTP Receive logs (below) and can't seem to find any reason why the emails are getting rejected. The sequence

I have another entry in my logs fro the same sender coming from the same IP which yields the same results. Strangely enough, there are other entries from the same sender coming from different IPs which are delivered just fine.
The sender has stated that they only get the rejects when replying to emails from my domain, not when he sends fresh emails.
Why would Exchange send the 550 5.7.1 in response to a DATA command when it responds with 354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF> to other DATA commands from a different server?
Bit of an odd problem, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    B. Colt

Thanks for the input Mr. Crowley. I've dumped the Receive Connector configurations, everything seems to be at default values except for logging (I set it to verbose).

  • How to install TOP command

Can anyone guide me how to install TOP command in solaris 10, 64bit OS?
    thanks

top is not a native Solaris command but the Solaris 10 3.5.1 top package is available for SPARC & X86 on:
    http://sunfreeware.com/
It may also be on one of your numerous Solaris 10 CD's. Which one? I haven't a clue.

  • Does "top" command work in Solaris?

Does "top" command work in solaris?
    # uname -a
    SunOS rac1 5.10 Generic_120012-14 i86pc i386 i86pc
    # top
    top: not found
    Edited by: user11936985 on Aug 29, 2011 8:44 AM

Top has two sections, the summary information at the top of the screen which gives load averages, process counts, etc. and a bottom section which lists the "top processes". The prstat command standard report is similar to the bottom section of top. So if that is what you need, then prstat is an adequate substitute. It doesn't report the information in top's summary section. On the other hand, prstat is actually a much more powerful tool than top, especially is you use some of the other options. For example, "prstat -a" gives you the "top process" report plus a summary report of usage by user. If you use "prstat -J" you get a top process report with a summary by project and "prstat -Z" gives a top process report with a summary by zone. You can use options like -v or -m to get more information on each process in the "top process" section. There are other options mentioned in the manual page.
Top works and works well on Solaris. You can get a copy form sunfreeware and probably other sources as well. It doesn't come from Oracle with Solaris 10 (but does come with Solaris 11). If you're a Linux shop you might want it because it is familiar. However, you may want to look at prstat as well because it can provide some useful information that top does not.

  • Output of "top" command

i can't understand the CPU usage in top command. even the man page does not describe the necessary options. here is what i have from the "top":
    Cpu(s):  3.7%us,  1.0%sy,  0.0%ni, 95.3%id,  0.0%wa,  0.0%hi,  0.0%si,  0.0%st
how will i know which option represents the CPU  in use and which represents free CPU ?  (i mean the meanings of us, wa, id and sy )
also, what is the difference between VIRT, RES  and SHR memories. which one represents RAM ?

us is processor time used by userspace processes, sy by kernel, ni by niced processes, id means idle, wa denotes waiting for I/O, hi and si are hard/soft interrupts.
Read "man top" for VIRT etc. descriptions.

  • Executing the top command through Java in linux

I am trying to execute the top command in Java as
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("top -n 1 >a.log");
But the command is not working in linux only through java. When i run the same command through the prompt it is working fine. Also all other commands are working fine.Is there any issue with top in linux?

Try reading [this article|http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html]. If it does not answer your problem then try seaching for other similar articles.
The cited article does provide an answer to the problem since it explains how the shell meta character '>' must be interpretted by a shell. The code as presented does not invoke a shell.

Why it is showing the Memory Free is 26 MB only...
Only one Database is running on this Machine SGA is around 600MB only.....
Why it is showing 26 MB Free of memory ....Can anybody please describe the TOP Command output.....

Hi, this doest look too good... " Swap: 8191992k total, 160k used"
this means you'r using some of you'r swap, "25708k buffers" and not becouse of you'r buffers.
try using ps -ef or top ( and sort by memory by hitting "m" ) and search for the process that uses you'r memory.

  • Can not delete emails and tool bar at top does not change over

Can not delete emails and tool bar at top does not  change over from safari. HELP

If you hold the command key down (the one with the ⌘ on it) and hit the + key you can make the fonts larger. Might help out, I know as I've gotten up there in years I've had to use it more and more
In the mean time while twtwtw mulls this over, can you supply any further information? Did the system crash or didi anything change before you started having the problem? Are you really running 10.5.8 as your profile says?
We'll start with those for now,
    regards

  • Pb g4 disk wont show on desk top will not eject

pb g4 disk wont show on desk top will not eject

Resetting of PMU yielded no success.
Here is what I have tried so far.
    * First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
      no icon located on desktop
    * If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
      mute point for me
    * Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
    did not work
    * If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
disk did not show up in menu bar to eject
    * Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
eject option was available in itunes but no response
    * Open Disk Utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
    disk is not visible
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism
no orriface thta fits this discription as far as I can tell
    * Restart the computer while holding down Command-Option-O-F, to enter the Open Firmware prompt. Type "eject cd" without the quotes, and press return. The disk ought to eject. To start into OS X, type "mac-boot" without the quotes. Press return, and the computer will continue with the startup. (This will not work on an Intel Mac. There is no Open Firmware on Intel Macs. )
    no luck
    * If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.
    this did not work either
I can hear disck spinning but dvd player shows the following prompt:

  • Version of Top Command?

Anyone know what version of the "Top" command that OS X 10.5 Server is running?

HP has a product named Sitescope, that loads up a bunch of commands to build performance testing documentation. Our HP rep was having problems with their OS X template running on one of our Xserves and wondered what version of the top command OS X 10.5 Server used.
The answer is still not particularly relevant.
If I were guessing, this was probably based on a ported HP-UX shell script, and there was either a change in one of the Leopard updates around top and/or there was a gap in the SiteScope testing for whichever Mac OS X Server 10.5 is running here; that the HP tool has encountered one of the many and various cases where different Unix boxes are implemented slightly different.
(Yes, there are various differences between Mac OS X and HP-UX.)
If you're not careful with your command usage and with your standards-compliance and particularly your command subset, then all manner of weirdnesses can arise when porting scripts around. And even if you are careful, there can still be the occasional platform-specific bug or a missed test.
(There are so many good standards to choose from, too. Just to add to the fun of porting code.)
Regardless of the version of top (and there are several very different families of top commands around), the answer here is that the HP SiteScope command script is going to need to be tweaked. HP will want to decide to bring along their own top command, switch to another data source (SNMP, etc) for the data, or they'll have to tweak their existing shell script to deal with whatever Mac OS X Server Leopard is returning for data. Or some other solution.
Here is [the source code of the Mac OS X top command|http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/top>, if you want to hand a pointer to HP.

  • How to create shell script on solaris "TOP" command

    Hi All,
i need to write a shell script on unix top command.
    Requirement:
In top command grep the more than 25% CPU utilization f60webmx process and that f60webmx process time stamp is more than 3HR's and also needs to grep the load average information in top command.
    Please help me some one.

i need to write a shell script on unix top command. You have our permission to begin to do that.
These forums are NOT for doing your work for you. They are here to provide assistance for YOUR work.
I suggest you go get paper and pencil and write down all the steps you think you need to take to accomplish that. Write it down as if you were going to do that manually at the command prompt. Then put it all into a text file and save it with a file name of your script.
When you have that "script", you can run it and examine whether it succeeds or whether it has errors. Work at it for a while and fix whatever errors might happen.
When you are really, really stuck at it, you can paste your script into a reply of this thread and maybe someone will respond with suggestions for improvement.
