Topic converts to book in merged TOC

So, I have two HTMLHelp projects, A and B. I'm trying to
include B in A's Table of Contents - here's where I am:
B is created and appears correctly when viewed alone. At the
top level of the TOC is a book (which links to topic B1). Within
that book are topics B1.1 and B1.2 and a book (linked to topic
B1.3) which contains some other topics.
Before including B in project A's TOC, A looks fine. It has
books A1 and A2 with several layers of books and topics inside
each.
I am trying to insert B into A's TOC, as the first item
within book A1. This seems to work fine, except that the TOC within
the inserted B project changes. B1.1 is now a book instead of a
single topic, and B1.2 and B1.3 are within that book.
I have tried changing the order of topics within B and it
doesn't help - whichever topic is listed first within book B1 turns
into a book, and all other topics get moved into it.
Does anyone know how I can fix this? If what I'm asking isn't
clear, I can email a couple of screenshots that should help to
explain things.

Hi, Cédric,
I'd recommend that you download FAR and try adding the
Include statements to your .hhc files with that. FAR is available
from this address:
http://helpware.net/FAR/index.html
After you've started FAR, select Authoring > TOC &
Index Editor, open the required .hhc file, and then select TOC >
Include File to add the required slave TOC at the appropriate
place.
I believe that RoboHelp may suffer from the same bug as
Microsoft's HTML Help Workshop: both tools appear to write the
Include statements at the wrong level in the TOC hierarchy. See the
"Known Bugs" section of this page:
http://helpware.net/htmlhelp/how_to_merge.htm
FAR is free to use for two months, but you must pay $49 or
thereabouts for a licence if you want to use it beyond that.

  • New books and topics don't appear in the ToC after generated in DHTML (RoboHelp v8)

Until recently, when I wanted to add a topic to a book in the Table of Contents, I just dragged it from the Project Manager into the Table of Contents.  I'm not sure what is different now, but the new topics appear in the Table of Contents pod but not in the generated DHTML.  To make it more confusing, to me anyway, some newly added topics DO show.

    Jeff, I politely disagree here.
My reason is because clicking the "View Result" *SHOULD* provide the same experience as you are advising. At that point, RoboHelp is simply opening the browser and handing things off.
Gwen, this causes me to ponder the following question. In recent versions of RoboHelp, it's possible to configure more than one Table Of Contents (TOC). Are you certain you have specified the desired TOC in your SSL recipe? That's what I'd be checking.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Any way to move all TOC topics to a book without doing each one individually?

    TCS1
    FM8
    RH7
    Windows XP
I am in the process of creating a combination TOC that includes TOCs from the books that were added by reference to my RH project.
The first step in creating a combination TOC is to create a New TOC book in each individual book TOC and then move the topics in that TOC under the book, then create the combination TOC.  Is there any quick and easy way to move topics into a book without doing it individually?  I have several hundred topics and it sure would save time.
    Thanks as always.

Faster than one by one, do this:
Open a TOC containing the topics you want.
Select all topics and copy them (CTRL-A, CTRL-C).
Open the TOC you want to put topics into.
    Paste (CTRL-V).

  • RoboHelp 9 - problem with merged TOC and index

Using RoboHelp v9.0.0.228 I have a master project which contains several merged TOCs and indexes for other CHMs. This has worked successfully for years, but has now stopped working in our translated CHMs. I have checked all the relevant settings and they appear to be correct. The English version still works correctly. Can you help please? Many thanks.

OK, so my post was just a summary really!
I have a main project with its own TOC, index and topics. I then have several other projects with their own TOCs, indexes and topics, and these are merged into the master TOC. In all these projects, we use the indexes to contain function ids for our software, so that when you press F1 in a software function, it invokes the correct Help topic in the CHM. The software is coded so that it goes to the main project first, and then looks in the merged index to find the link to the Help topic.
In the individual sub projects, the TOCs and indexes are present and work correctly. Also, in the master project, the TOC and index works correctly in the original English version. However, even though the TOCs, indexes and topics are all present and correct in the translated versions (Russian, for example) the index in the master project does not contain the entries for the sub projects. The TOCs for the sub projects do, however, work correctly.

  • RH7 (HTML) - Is there a way to print ALL topics in a book?

I've generated an HTML project and users want to know if there is a way to print all topics in a book instead of printing one topic at a time. We have the print selected topic and print all topics in book options with generated help (.chm). Can anyone help?

When you select Print, this is the dialog you get.
The output will not adhere to your CSS so don't expect it to be pretty. There's information about this on my site.
It might be better to create PDFs and make them available from the TOC or somewhere in your help.

  • Printing all topics in a book in Webhelp format

How can users print all of the topics in a book of topics from the TOC? I know in .chm format, you can right-click a purple book, select Print from the shortcut menu, and then select the Print the selected heading and all subtopics option. However, I cannot find a way to do this in webhelp format. Is there a way?

In webhelp there isn't but you can get around this by creating a PDF and adding it to a topic.

  • How to convert mobi books to ePub format?

Hello, I have a question for help here, I have a lot of .mobi books on my computer, I wanna transfer these mobi books to my iPhone and iPad for reading, but I found they doesn't accept mobi format, I tried many ways to convert mobi to ePub but failed, the quality of  the output ePub file is so bad, unable to read. pleae help! Is there any software can convert hundreds of .mobi files to ePub format with high quality? Don't give me calibre, it keep crashed in my windows 8, and the it is not easy to use, waste of my time.

And, what did I say?  Asnlinkda asked how to convert a mobi book into an epub book (not how to convert an epub in a mobi). I said him that he should use some thid party app (that produces epub books) and if it's necessary, to polish the resulting book mobi to ePub converter. I also say that he could use mobi to ePub converter but that I prefer to use the first method. So, I say that is preferable to use (if it were necessary)
The way I go from Mobi > ePub is to use Vibosoft ePub creator or iStonsoft mobi to epub converter to convert, use Modify ePub to put in the cover and then use Sigil to rename the files and clean up the code/CSS. I find that's the easiest way to do it.

  • Show Merged TOC Option in Merged WebHelp

I am experimenting with merged WebHelp for my company's disaster recovery plans. There is a master company plan and then each department has its own dept plan. I have set up the merge using instructions from Peter's site. I'm running Robo 8.
When I generated the parent project, I did not select the "Show Merged TOC in Child Project" option, but all of the TOCs are still displaying in the merged output anyway. Is that how it's supposed to work? Eventually, I may want them to all display, but right now, I don't. I only want the TOC for the main child project to appear in the output. Is that possible?
    See attached two screen shots.

Then you don't want that box ticked. The way it works is you generate all the outputs.
    - If you open the start page of the parent, you will get all the TOCs showing as one.
    - If you open the start page of a child, you will get just that child's TOC, unless you have ticked that check box when you will get the whole lot.

  • "Address book card merge" in Pages '13

Has "address book card merge" been removed from Pages '13 features?

You can use the Contacts just like you could use the Address book for creating envelopes or labels.
Select the contacts you want to send to > Cmd + P for printing > Set which envelope you want to use. Print

  • CAUTION-MAJOR BUG Address Book's "Merge Selected Cards" DELETES CONTENT!

I have just realized (after losing much data) that when using the Merge Selected Cards function within the Apple Address Book that it will, without notification, delete content! That's right, if the two cards share different data but have the same field labels, Address Book will merge the two and simply keep the content in the 1st record (deleting the content in the 2nd).
For example... Two records (same contact), one record with a home-email and home-number and one with a work-email and work-number. However since both happen to have default field labels of "email" and "number" when you select "Merge..." you don't end up with two emails/numbers in the merged contact you actually only have the content from the 1st record.
Essentially "Merge Selected Records" = "Delete 2nd Record"
This is a major error. The feature should be removed asap until it is corrected!!

This bug still affects the Address Book v5.0.3 which is updated with the Mac OS X 10.6.5 update which has just been released.
Apple have been notified of this bug as far back as November 2009.
There are at least 3 separate RADAR bug reports about this issue.
There have been 3 Mac OS Snow Leopard updates since the bug was reported to them. The bug has not been fixed in any of these updates.
The bug does not affect Address Book v5.0
It does affect Address Book v5.0.1
It does affect Address Book v5.0.2
It does affect Address Book v5.0.3
Apple were notified in November 2009 after Address Book v5.0.1 was released that this problem existed. We also told Apple customer support. We told the Apple Store Regent Street Geniuses. We emailed Apple Developer Bug Reporting and were initial told they were aware of it, then we received no more replies.
The original thread in the forums detailing this issue is now archived even though the bug remains. So we cannot reply and update that thread.
We suggest you try and make as many people at Apple aware of this issue as we think it is very poor that they are aware of a serious data loss bug for 12 months and havent rectified it in many software and Address Book app updates.

  • Print All Topics Under a Book

    Hello --
I am probably reaching here, but does anyone know if there is
a way to allow users to print all topics under a book rather than
printing one topic at a time?
    Thanks

    Hi ADP Tech Writer
If I were in your shoes, I'd probably create a .PDF
containing the topics in the book. Then advise the user to open and
    print that.
    Just a thought... Rick

  • Converting picture books

Would I be able to easily convert existing self published picture books using iBooks to make app versions? I have a client that I illustrate and design for and have been trying to find a way to convert her books into apps to offer them electronically. This sounds like it might be a perfect solution... IF I can easily import full page artwork. I saw someone post about there not being a 'blank' template so thougt that might be an issue.

    Hi wzoe,
You could convert directly to EPUB format from InDesign.
A quick overview of this process: http://robcubbon.com/create-epub-ebook-indesign/
    A complete online course: http://www.lynda.com/InDesign-CS5-tutorials/to-EPUB-Kindle-and-iPad/75445-2.html
Remember that the iBooks that IBA produces will only "play" on an iPad.  If your goal is multi-platform then EPUB or PDF is probably the preferred format.
PDF is inherrently fixed layout, but there's a new fixed layout option in EPUB that you should use given these are illustrated books where a fixed page layout is probably important.
    Cheers,
    Geoff

  • Why don't I see the "Show Merged TOC in Child Project" setting?

I have read about the "Show Merged TOC in Child Project" setting in RoboHelp 8 and have seen a screen shot of the build properties page where that check box is. But, when I go to build WebHelp, I don't see the same window. A number of the settings are different, and there is no "Show Merged TOC in Child Project" setting. I am using RoboHelp 8 (version 8.0.2.208 to be exact). I have pasted in a screen shot of the window that I see.
The first screen I see when I build WebHelp looks the same as the screen shot in Peter Grainge's article on Merged Help. The screen above is the second one I see.
    Can anyone help? I'm mystified!

    Hi there
Looks like you experimented with enabling Section 508. When you do that and toggle it back off, you are left with the Traditional style - no skin WebHelp. So back up a screen and choose a skin. Then you will see the option.
    Cheers... Rick
