Toplink as OR-Mapper for ADF BC?

Hi,
I just had a look at Steve Muench's PPTs from Croatia OUG, especially at the ppt "jdev 10.1.3 new features": (http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/2005/10/21.html#a614).
On slide 47/57 there is a slightly modified new picture of the adf 10.1.3 architecture.
Most interesting change: now there is a new layer called "toplink data services", suggesting that also ADF BC persistence is done via toplink.
Could someone please point out, if that's a vision or concrete feature?
Thanks!
Torsten

I borrowed that slide from a marketing presentation that had tried to simplify the picture a bit. I've replaced it now with one that is more technically accurate for the 10.1.3 release timeframe with regard to the ADF layers. Toplink does feature a number of different backend-technology solutions as pictured in the original slide. It's just that showing that on the same slide as the various supported ADF data control options turned to require four-dimensional graphics, so they went for the simplified picture. You can read more on the idea of a toplink data services layer in this JDJ interview with Dennis Leung: http://java.sys-con.com/read/47361.htm
As is has always done, ADF Business Components inherit their own high-performance, relationally-focused query and persistence functionality from the framework base classes.
For the future, we are researching the ability to leverage the POJO persistence standard in JSR 220, implemented by toplink as part of their EJB3 work, to persist the ADF BC Entity POJO objects, too. This would give ADF BC users new mapping options over the default ones we already provide -- which in practice turn out to be what you mostly use in practice, but more flexibility would still be nice. Last I checked, the standard only supported persisting a POJO class which extended from another mapped POJO, and not from some arbitrary framework base class, so unless they've recently relaxed that restriction, anyone using a framework base class to add globally useful application-building functionality to their persistent POJO's won't yet be able to persist them with the EJB3 spec just yet. This of course includes an ADF Entity Object class, since it inherits functionality from a base EntityImpl framework class.

    Have you tried to call ojdeploy directly instead of using the ojdeploy task?
    I remember that the ant task has had some bugs. You can use the exec task and execute ojdeploy directly. Then you don't even need to include the path elements as you use the jdev project which includes all the information.
    ojdeploy.executable=path_to_your_jdev_installation/jdev/bin/ojdeploy.exe
        <target name="ojdeploy" description="execute ojdeploy">
                <exec executable="${ojdeploy.executable}" dir="."

  • How can i create datasource on apache server for ADF application?

    Hi All,
    i my use case i have created simple adf application using ADF BC and want to deploy on Apache server 6.x.
    So my question is that  how can i create Data Source i have goggling and find  two different way to do this.
    1. write following line of code on apache server conf/Context.xml file.
    <Resource name="jdbc/TestDB" auth="Container"
                  type="javax.sql.DataSource"
                   driverClassName="oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver"
                  url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:dst"
                  username="jagrandb" password="jagrantest" maxActive="20" maxIdle="10"
                  maxWait="-1"/>
    but when i have used this way i got following exception.
    org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.dbcp.PoolingDataSource$PoolGuardConnectionWrapper cannot be cast to oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection
    check link-
    https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2564233
    2. write following line of code apache conf/Server.xml file
    <GlobalNamingResources>
        <!-- Editable user database that can also be used by
             UserDatabaseRealm to authenticate users
        -->
        <Resource name="UserDatabase" auth="Container"
                  type="org.apache.catalina.UserDatabase"
                  description="User database that can be updated and saved"
                  factory="org.apache.catalina.users.MemoryUserDatabaseFactory"
                  pathname="conf/tomcat-users.xml" />
    <Resource name="jdbc/TestDB" auth="Container"
                  type="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource"
                  description="User database that can be updated and saved"
                  driverClassName="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
                  factory="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSourceFactory"
                  url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@//172.31.43.207:1521:dst"
                  username="jagrandb" password="jagrantest" maxActive="20" maxIdle="10"
                  maxWait="-1"   />
      </GlobalNamingResources>
    and add this line in context.xml file inside <context> tag
    <ResourceLink global="jdbc/TestDB" name="jdbc/TestDB" type="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource"/>
    but when i have run application i have got following error

  • Can't find Javadoc for ADF Faces components

    I have tried to locate javadoc documentation for ADF Faces Java classes, but am not able to find anything. For example, the ADF Faces tag documentation for af:convertNumber has the following comment:
    "Further more information see javadoc for oracle.adf.view.faces.converter.NumberConverter"
    But I cannot find this javadoc anywhere on the OTN documentation site.

    I could not find any document where css classes for ADF Faces components have been listed. I want to build custom skin and i needed it badly. Anybody knows where it is?

    Hi,
    Try http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/fnimphius/adffaces_skin_selectors/AdfFacesSkinSelectors.html. Note that you can always use Firebug to get the right class name, assuming you set the following parameter in web.xml:
    <context-param>
      <param-name>org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.DISABLE_CONTENT_COMPRESSION</param-name>
      <param-value>true</param-value>
    </context-param>~ Simon

  • How to configure the Oracle XSL Mapper for ‘schemaLocation’ attribute?

    In the Transformation_1.xsl I need to have the ‘schemaLocation’ attribute defined as such:
    <inc:CaseIncidentReport xsi:schemaLocation="http://caseincidentreport.com/1.0.4 CaseIncidentReport.xsd">
    This is fine as long as long as I don’t switch to the Design tab. When I switch to the Design tab, Oracle XSL Mapper regenerates the XSL file and renders the root element as
    <inc:CaseIncidentReport>
    Can some one tell me how to configure Oracle XSL Mapper for ‘schemaLocation’ attribute? I am using BPEL Designer/JDeveloper Version 10.1.2.1.0 (Build 1915)
    Thanks,

    What do you mean by normal import? Where can I include the 'schemaLocation' attribute in the Designer? I have no trouble adding the shemaLocation in the source tab but when I switch to the design tab it always stripe it off.
    How do I file an enhancement request? I see the the XSL Mapper needs improvements.

    The next week I want to buy a new laptop for adf development and the question is What are the optimal requirements to run jdev and deploy big apps to the integrated weblogic without lost my hair.
    I know this is a well commented issue in this forum but the tecnology change quickly.
    Jhon

    Based on my experience, I can post below comments:
    I used Windows7 with 4GB Ram and I5 processor (32 bit) in previous project and I started loving mac so I am using Mac (Mountain Lion 10.8.3 version, I7 processor with 8GB Ram) now for my current project but somehow I notice my mac machine hangs a lot though it is of higher configuration and also still has some jdeveloper issues like (some time my BC tester fails i.e. testing model from AM) fails adhoc basis. However all these comments are applicable only for my machines and I may be wrong as well. Just thought of sharing my experiences with Windows/Mac.
    Another point, if you want to develop any ADF Desktop Integrator applications, only windows OS supports and MAC has not support for it.
    Regards,
    Ravi Nuka.

  • What are the best coding standards for ADF 11g?

    Hi,
    Do we have any link that will suggest the best coding standard practices used for ADF 11g?
    I am looking out from the perspective of some standards that can be defined before starting my project to know the team on how to
    1. Minimize Duplicity and max reusability of code
    2. Package the code
    3. Resource bundle usage and its calls
    4. Maintainning format consistency eg. date display format, number format
    5. Exception handling
    6. Logging
    7. Namiing conventions
    Also then we might have standards on
    1. Task flow dev.
    2. EO and VO creation standards
    3. UI development standards [purely ADF component based]
    Thanks in advance

    The ADF Enterprise Methodology Group has a page on standards that gives you a starting point on many of your questions: http://groups.google.com/group/adf-methodology/web/adf-coding-standards
