TopLink Question - Mutliple Object to Single Table mapping

Just a short question,
Does toplink support mapping feature as such that it can map two distinct objects with single table that when in insertion or selection those two objects can be manipulated, selected in single operation? I know that TopLink mapping supports single object from multiple table mapping, but I'm not sure about multiple objects being associated with single table.
Secondly, does Hibernate has something like what I described above?
Howard.

Hi Howard,
You can map two objects to a single table if the objects are related by aggregation.
In TopLink, two objects–a source (parent or owning) object and a target (child or owned) object–are related by aggregation if there is a strict one-to-one relationship between them, and all the attributes of the target object can be retrieved from the same data source representation as the source object. This means that if the source object exists, then the target object must also exist, and if the source object is destroyed, then the target object is also destroyed.

  • Help with multi-table mapping for one-to-many object inheritance

    Hi,
I have posted on here before regarding this (Toplink mapping for one-to-many object inheritance but I am still having problems mapping my object model to my schema.
    Object model
The Person and Organisation objects contain base information and have the primary keys person_id and organisation_id. It is important that there is no duplication of person and organisation records, no matter how many times they are saved in different roles.
There are two types of licenceholder in the problem domain, and the ILicenceHolder interface defines information and methods that are common to both. The PersonalLicenceHolder object represents one of these types of licenceholder, and is always a person, so this class extends Person and implements ILicenceHolder.
The additional information and methods that are required by the second type of licenceholder are defined in the interface IPremisesLicenceHolder, which extends ILicenceHolder. Premises licence holders can either be people or organisations, so I have two objects to represent these - PremisesLicenceHolderPerson which implements IPremisesLicenceHolder and extends Person, and PremisesLicenceHolderOrganisation which implements IPremisesLicenceHolder and extends Organisation.
The model is further complicated by the fact that any single Person may be both a PersonalLicenceHolder and a PremisesLicenceHolderPerson, and may be so several times over. In this case, the same basic Person information needs to be linked to several different sets of licenceholder information. In the same way, any single Organisation may be a PremisesLicenceHolderOrganisation several times over.
    Sorry this is complicated!
    Schema
I have Person and Organisation tables containing the basic information with the primary keys person_id and organisation_id.
I have tried to follow Donald Smith's advice and have created a Role table to record the specialised information for the different types of licence holder. I want the foreign keys in this table to be licenceholder_id and licence_id. Licenceholder_id will reference either organisation_id or person_id, and licence_id will reference the primary key of the Licence table to link the licenceholder to the licence. Because I am struggling with the mapping, I have changed licenceholder_id to person_id in an attempt to get it working with the Person object before I try the Organisation.
Then, when a new licenceholder is added, if the person/organisation is already in the database, a new record is created in the Role table linking the existing person/organisation to the existing licence rather than duplicating the person/organisation information.
    Mapping
I am trying to use the toplink mapping workbench to map my PremisesLicenceHolderPerson object to my schema. I have mapped all inherited attributes to superclass (Person). The primary table that the attributes are mapped to is Person, and I have used the multi-table info tab to add Roles as an additional table and map the remaining attributes to that.
    I have created the references PERSON_ROLES which maps person.person_id to roles.person_id, ROLES_PERSON which maps roles.person_id to person.person_id and ROLES_LICENCE which maps roles.licence_id to licence.licence_id.
I think I have put in all the relationships, but I cannot get rid of the error message "The following primary key fields are unmapped: PERSON_ID".
Please can somebody tell me how to map this properly?
    Thank you.

I'm not positive about your mappings, but it looks like the Person object should really have a 1:M or M:M mapping to the Licenceholder table. This then means that your object model should be similar, in that Person object could have many Licenses, instead of being LicenceHolders. From the looks of it, you have it set up from the LicenceHolder perspective. What could be done instead if a LicenceHolder could have a 1:1 reference to a person data object, rather than actually be a Person. This would allow the person data to be easily shared among licences.
LicenceHolder1 has an entry in the LicenceHolder table and Person table. LicenceHolder2 also has entries in these tables, but uses the same entry in the Person table- essentially it is the same person/person_ID. If both are new objects, TopLink would try to insert the same person object into the Person table twice. I'm not sure how you have gotten around or are planning to get around this problem.
Since you are using inheritance, it means that LicenceHolder needs a writable mapping to the person.person_id field- most commonly done through a direct to field mapping. From the description, it looks like roles.person_id is a foreign key in the multiple table mapping, meaning it would be set based on the value in the person.person_id field, but the person.person_id isn't actually mapped in the object. Check to make sure that the ID attribute LicenceHolder is inheriting from person hasn't been remapped in the LicenceHolder descriptor to a different field.

    Chris

  • How get list of tables/functions/other objects used in a mapping?

    Hi,
I would like to know list of objects such as tables, views, functions, procedures and table functions of all mappings in a module.
Could any one please explain me, how can I do this using OMB+ scripting.
    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Gowtham Sen.

OMBRETRIEVE MAPPING 'MAP_NAME' GET TABLE OPERATORS
OMBRETRIEVE MAPPING 'MAP_NAME' GET VIEW OPERATORS
OMBRETRIEVE MAPPING 'MAP_NAME' GET TRANSFORMATION OPERATORS
OMBRETRIEVE MAPPING 'MAP_NAME' GET TABLE_FUNCTION OPERATORS
Alternative variant (and maybe more simple) - use dictionary view DBA_DEPENDENCIES (or all_dependencies):
    select * from dba_dependencies where owner='MAP_OWNER' and type in ('PACKAGE','PACKAGE_BODY') and name='MAP_NAME'

  • Multiple Table Mapping To Single Entity in Workshop 8.1

I've taken a test run on creating entity beans with workshop 8.1, although mapping
an CMP entity to a single database table looks to be relatively straightforward,
I can't seem to find a way to map multiple database tables to a single CMP entity
(at least not via workshop). Do I have to manually modify the deployment descriptors
    after building with workshop?

    Thanks, John.

Is there any example of using ejbgen to map single EJB to multiple tables?
Jingwei... I found this at: http://www.beust.com/cedric/ejbgen/#multiple-table-mapping
By default, Entity beans are mapped to one table, with the attribute
    table-name
on the tag @ejbgen:entity. If you want to map your Entity bean to more
    than one
table, you can use the table-name attribute on individual @ejbgen:cmp-fields.
All the CMP fields that do not have a table-name attribute will use the
    table
specified on @ejbgen:entity (which can therefore be considered as the
    "default"
    table).
If you want to map an Entity bean to several tables, you need to specify
    a comma-separated
list of tables in the table-name attribute (and also on column). For
    example:
    * @ejbgen:cmp-field
    * column = "bal1, bal2"
    * table-name = "Table1, Table2"
Make sure that the number of tables matches the number of columns, and
    that the
columns exist in the corresponding table (for example, in the example
    above, Table1
    must contain column bal1, and Table2, bal2).

  • Backup single table partiton question?

HI we are using oracle 11.2.0.3 on linux platform and was wanting to know if there is a way to backup just a single table partiiton using rman? If so does the database need to be runnnig in archivelog mode in order to do this with the database online?
This is a database that has one single huge table that is partitioned by day and we are attempting to export out daily partitions using datapump export so that we can arhive them to tape but the disk system we have is not able to keep up and the export of roughly 128gb is taking over 8 hours and is failing beciase the undo is aging out.
We would like to bypass writing the partitions out to disk and just stream them to tape if at all possible?
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

HI, thank you for your reply. I have come to this conclusion also that we could move the partition to another tablespace and then backup just that tablespace. One of my problems here is that the database is not in archivelog mode because it was writing out so many archive logs and was causing a perfromance problem on the database because the storage could not keep up.
This is a database that it's only purpose is this one huge table that is partitioned by day and they are writing about 128gb per day into the partitions. The one table itself is over 10tb at this point in time and we are struggling with how to manage it.
We got the business to agree that we will only keep 3 months worth of data in the live table and we can archive the rest but the current method we had in place which was a datapump export and then backup the .dmp file to tape.
That method is no longer working beause the export is taking too long now because of the amount of data that is getting inserted on a daily basis and the export now is running too long and failing because it is taxing the I/O system on the server.
So thats why we are trying to use rman to write directly to tape.
The requirement from the businesss is that we may need to restore a partition from as far back as one year and not sure how this can be done if we would need to restore the tablespace from a backup that is almost a year old? I don;t think it is possible without all of the archive logs.
    Any suggestions are welcomed...
    Thanks.

  • Two objects from one table

My current setup is two tables and two objects with a one to one relationship between them, Object and ObjectMD (metadata).
Not sure why my predecessors set it up like this but...that's how it is.
The problem is that my Object table (and thus ObjectMD also) has reached 40 million rows and large joins between Object and ObjectMD are taking forever and are completely unnecessary.
I want to import the ObjectMD data into the Object table and go forward with a single table. The problem is that the ObjectMD table has it's own java surrounding it and that code is used in way too many places to weed it out. I need to leave the Java object structure in place.
I think I should be able to create both these objects from a single table, but I can not figure out the descriptor. My set method needs to be getMetaData().setMethod, but of course TL's reflection doesn't like this. I suppose I could create new methods in Object to get/set all these fields and just forward them to the real methods.
How can I define descriptors to create two objects from a single table?

What I decided on for my last problem was to use a method to setBar, and inside that method, set the Foo of the Bar.

  • How to get two tansaction data's in a single table.

    hi experts,
                   I have 2 transaction data's:
    Eg:
    Transaction data 1:
    ID       C1      C2     C3
    101     10      20      30
    102     11      21      31
    103     12      22      32
    Transaction data 2:
    ID       C1      C4     C5
    101     10      40      50
    102     11      41      51
    103     12      42      52
my question is, when i am trying to loading the data into the infocube, i should get both data's in a single table. that means it should be like:
    ID    C1  C2   C3   C4   C5
    101  10   20    30   40   50
    102  11   21    31   41   51
    103  12   22    32   42   52
Note:  C1 object contains same data in both trandata's

    Venkata,
In this case you should first load to ODS and then to Infocube. But both the data should have common key fields. Data fields can vary.
In your case suppoe ID be the key field. Both the dat should have ID, as the ODS will have ID as key field.
Now you can have two infosources and two update rules to the same ODS.
So the ODS strcuture will be:
    ID C1 C2 C3 C4, C5
First data and second data as you gave. But the C1 in second dat should have an extra field as it will be overwritten if it is not a key field and will add a new record if the value of C1 is not same as that of data1.
First decide upon teh key fields of ODS. In update rules you can map only required fields from the respective tran data only. Like in first update rules you can map ID C1, C2, C3 only and in second you can map ID C4, C5. Now we need to evaluate only C1 for which I need some sample records and data relation
By this way you can get a single record in ODS after loading both data.

  • EJB 3.0 Entity Bean Inheritance Table Mapping

What I want to do (I think)...
    In a distilled example form...
    - class A defines field x
    - class B defines field y, extends A, inheriting field x
    - class C defines field z, extends A, inheriting field x
    - I want class B to map to tbl_b which has columns x, y
    - I want class C to map to tbl_c which has columns x, z
What I **don't** want to do (I think)...
    - make a base table for class A that is joined to tbl_b and tbl_c
    - map class B and class C to a single table that has a discriminator column
    Questions...
    1) Is there a conceptual problem with what I want to do?
    2) Is there a way to do what I want to do? I've tried via annotations. Maybe via the XML mapping alternative to annotations?

    Thanks for the reply Simon.
Just to re-word what I want to do... I want to use a single table **for each lineage** in the hierarchy. In my original example that would be two tables.
Table per class is what I tried but couldn't get to work - at least using annotations. I want to map some columns in the single table to base fields and some to derived fields.
It seems that only 'single table with discriminator', or the 'join table' methods are sanctioned ways to handle an inheritance hierarchy.
I didn't yet try using the XML method. I might be able to use the single table method by mapping base class properties as if they were derived class properties. This approach would work with a native Hibernate mapping XML.
Back to the conceptual question. Is there a reason why I shouldn't do what I want here?
    What I'm trying to avoid...
    1) joining tables for performance issues
    2) having one table with columns that only make sense for certain records - ugly and potentially database storage waste.

  • Multi-table mapping is not inserting into the primary table first.

I have an inheritance mapping where the children are mapped to the parent table oids with the "Multi-Table Info" tab.
One of children is not inserting properly. Its insert is attempting to insert into one of the tables from the "Additional Tables" of "Multi-Table Info" instead of the primary table that it is mapped to.
The other children insert correctly. This child is not much different from those.
I looked through the forums, but found nothing similiar.

I would expect the Children to be inserted into both the primary table and the Additional Table? Is the object in question inserted into the primary table at all? Is the problem that it is being inserted into the Additional Table first? If it is, are the primary key names different? Is it a foreign key relationship?
If the object in question has no fields in the additional table is it mapped to the additional table? (it should not be)
Perhaps providing the deployment XML will help determine the problem,

    Hi Friends,
Please help me  how to create two chacteristics infoobjects for a single table.... Thanx in advance

    Hi,
If i understand your question right, you want one table (SID) to be shared between two info objects. It is possible if one info object uses the other info object as its reference.
    Create a reference info object.

  • How to bound the objects used in the mapping?

    HI,
Could any one please explain me how to bound all the objects from a mapping at a single shot? Can we do this using OWB?
    Thank you,

    Gowtham Sen.

    Hi,
    Thanks to all for replying.
    I am using OWB 10G R1
I exported the mapping and the depenedent objects such as tables, sequences. and so on.
But while exporting I couldn't able to export public transformations. So the trasformation objects which I used in the mapping are set as not bounding to any object.
Now I manually import the transformation.
So Could any one explain, how to to do this reconcilation using OMB plus?

  • Execute a VO '4' times and show the result in single table at once.

    Hi,
I want to execute single a VO query multiple times with different parameters and show the results together in a Table at once
    In Detail
I have a table to which is associated with a VO.
The VO contains SQL whose WhereClauseParameters need to be dynamically binded.say headerId and lineId
    Select ... from ....where headerId = :1 AND lineId = :2
I have to pass these 4 values and show all the results in a single table
    headerId lineid
    H1 ............... L1
    H1 ............... L2
    H2 ............... L1
    H2 ............... L2
I understand that i need to bind parameters dynamically and exceute the VO.
As i have 4 different set of parameters, the view object will be executed 4 times.
I want to show all the results together in a single table.
    How can I do it.
    thanks,
    Gowtam

    Hi Mani,
Thanks a lot for the patience and detailed solution.I will try it out and tell you the status.
Meanwhile, I have 2 questions on this solution(just curious)
I will give you the snapshot of the table
    Table - ModelInfo
    Model......Tube..... Float....Size......Col5.....Col6.......Col7.......
    M1............T1.......... F1. .....1..........C15......C16.....C17.....
    M1............T1...........F1.......2..........C25......C26.....C27.....
    M1............T2......... .F2.......1..........C35......C36.....C37.....
    M1............T2...........F2.......2..........C45......C46.....C47.....
    M2............T1.......... F1. .....1..........
    M2.............T1..........F1.....2.........Cn5.......Cn6........Cn7
    .<continues...>
    .<till>
    .Mn............Tn..........Fn.......n........Cxy.......Cpq.......Crs....
    Question 1:
    if you notice this data,
The Columns 5 to 7 are dependent on Combination of Model,Tube,Float and Size.
Hence will this query work properly(without mixing up data from other Pk combination) and will it be efficient?(I Know this is a stupid qst, still double checking..As your solution assumes that each row is unique for Model only..which is not true)
    Select ...From....Where
Model in(M1,M2,..Mn) AND Tube in(T1,T2..Tn) AND Float in(F1,F2,....Fn) and Size in(1,2...n).
In short, will C15,C16 and C17 appear only with M1,T1,F1,1..I believe it will.
    Question 2:
    As I told,
Third party program will return Array of Objects.
Each object will have a variable called Flow along with
    Model,Tube,Float and Size.
Flow is not stored in the database(can not be stored due to functional reasons).I want to show this Flow also along with other columns fetched from the DB for all 100+ rows.
    How can I do it?
I will give u the scenario(with just 2 rows)...please check(Flow is not stored in DB)
    Third Party object : ObjModel
    Model......Tube..... Float....Size......Flow
    M1............T1.......... F1. .....1..........100
    M1............T1...........F2.......2...........200.
    M1............T2.......... F1.......1..........300
    M1............T2...........F2.......2..........400
    My concern is,
After the VO executes and shows other 6 columns, it should show Flow appropriately.(associated with each object in the array)
I understand that I need to have a Transient attribute in VO called[b] Flow. But I don't know how to perform the two tasks simultaneously..
Task1:Your solution on showing table columns
Task2:Showing Transient data for each object returned from program.
    thanks,

  • Question on Object Type

    Hi,
I don't know if its the right forum to ask this question but I am a beginner. I am trying to extract a large number of values from oracle using more than 10 queries fired in sequence, with a little logic in-between( which can easily be shifted a stored procedure). I want to reduce the number of network trips by shifting all these queries in a stored procedure which could take all the input parameters as some sort of Object which can be mapped directly to a C# object. The return type of this proc would also be a similar object/ array of objects.
I can use those objects as is in my application for further execution.
Is this approach feasible and optimized than the current mechanism?
If yes then can I use the oracle object type for this purpose?
    Thanks,
    Peeyush

    > I am trying to extract a large number of values from oracle using more than
10 queries fired in sequence, with a little logic in-between( which can easily
be shifted a stored procedure.. <snipped>
I think that is an accurate description of both the problem and solution.
It does not make sense to perform huge fetches of data, and ship that off to the client for processing. A RDBMS is a data processing platform. It is designed to do exactly this.. process the data on the server, reducing the data to information and then pass that information to the client.
And yes, the solution to this is to use PL/SQL. But to a greater extent of merely wanting to weld a bunch of SQLs together. The purpose of PL/SQL is to crunch the data - to do the processing that you would have done at the client.
In fact, much of this processing can likely be done using just SQL itself, without much help of PL/SQL.
What does not make sense is to use SQL as your "I/O language" - have it relegated to merely making read and write calls and nothing else. SQL is a very powerful and capable language - and the fastest at crunching data. Nothing, not even PL/SQL which is also very close to the physical data, can do it as fast as SQL.
Thus the performance and scalability rule that says: Maximize SQL. Minimize PL/SQL (and C/C#/Java/etc).
What also does not make sense is to take the data returned by SQL and throw it into buffers (objects/collections) in PL/SQL. PL/SQL memory (called PGA) is expensive dedicated memory. Oracle's SQL engine already has a very sophisticated and capable shared database buffer - that unlike a buffer in the PGA, is available and able to service all sessions and clients. (collections/bulk processing in PL/SQL is aimed at reducing context switching - not at reducing I/O calls)
My approach to this type of problem is to do as much as possible in SQL. Provide a PL/SQL wrapper to make the (sometimes complex) SQL transparent from the client - which also allows me to optimise, tune and maintain that without touching a single byte of client code.
Do as little as possible in the client (RDBMS and business logic wise) - have the client do what it is suppose to do - Visualise the information received via PL/SQL calls (usually using ref cursors) in an attractive user interface and interact with the end-user.

  • How can we create an entity object using multiple tables?

    Hi All,
    I'm a newbie to OAF.
I'm trying to create a simple page using OAF.
While creating Entity object, there is an option to add the database objects from which we can create our Entity Object.
There we can enter only one database object.
If suppose I need to create a Entity object by using mutiple data base objects, how can I add other database objects?
Is there any option for multiple selection of database objects there?
    Thanks in Advance

    User,
a). You should use the [url http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=210]OA Framework Forum for this question.
b). Entity objects always correspond to a single table. I think you want to create a View object instead.
c). Really, you want to be using the OA Framework forum.

  • How to restore a single table from a DP Export from a different schema?

    Environment:
    Oracle 11.2.0.3 EE on Solaris
I was looking at the documentation on DP Import trying to find the correct syntax to import a single table from a DP Export of a different schema.
So, I want to load table USER1.TABLE1 into USER2.TABLE1 from a DP Export.
    Looking at the REMAP_TABLE options:
    REMAP_TABLE=[schema.]old_tablename[.partition]:new_tablename
    OR
REMAP_TABLE=[schema.]old_tablename[:partition]:new_tablenameI can't see where to specify the target schema name. The examples had the new table name residing in the same schema with just a new name.
I looked at the REMAP_SCHEMA but the docs say that will import the entire schema into the new schema and I only want one (1) table.
    Any suggestions are most welcome!

I thought I tried that combination and it seemed to me that the REMAP_SCHEMA somehow over-rode the TABLES= parameter >and started loading all the objects. If it does fail (and it should not) then please post the details here and I will try to see what is happening.
Let me get back into the sandbox and try it again. I admit I was in a bit of a hurry when I did it the first time.We are all in a hurry, no worries. If it fails, please post the details and the log file.
Does it make any sense that one parameter would override another? No, this should never happen. We have tons of checks to make sure the job can't have multiple meanings. For example, you can't say
full=y schemas=foo --- Which do you want, a full export or a list of schema exports, etc.
Your suggestion was the first thing I thought would work. This should work. If not, please post the log file with the command and the results.
    Dean
Thanks again for the help and stay tuned for my new attempt.

I know I can do both conversions one-by-one, using the tiresome old open/re-save routine, both from AW5 to AW6, then AW6 to Pages but, seeing as AW6 is so godawful slow on my Intel machine, I'm looking for an easier way. Any thoughts? Thanks.
