I am just about ready to give up on itunes

I have had so many problems with itunes in the last week. I first tried to update to itunes 10 on my laptop with no luck, it just kept coming up with different errors. I was then told to completely uninstall itunes and download from scratch, I did that and it wouldn't even download so I was left without itunes. Giving up on ever getting itunes back on my laptop, I spent hours transferring all my music over to my partners laptop. After backing up my iphone and then syncing it, more than half of my music 'could not be located.' Even all the music I purchased from itunes I can't access. Can somebody please help me?

hiya!
there are various windows-based third party packages that might work for you, but i don't have a lot of experience with them. (TBird is good at this, but i haven't seen him/her around much lately.)
it may be worth checking in over at ilounge or ipod garage forums for testimonials for and discussion of the other packages.

    I did not authorize 2 in app purchases and because my credit card is at its limit, and i dont know how to reverse the in app purchases, i cannot update any app or do just about anything in the appstore or itunes store. I dont care if i owe apple's itunes appstore a few dollars over 2 in app purchases i never meant to download in fact the whole app itself i wanted to delete...but out of the hundreds (maybe lower thousands) fof dollars in music and apps and whatever else, that i rightfully purchased over the passed couple of years....should *NOT* have the upgrades and/or previous purchased songs withheld from me over $3 in accidently purchased add ons through an existing app i deleted an disliked anyway

    Same thing happened to me with my peruvian credit card in the peruvian app store, I want to buy an app, but it says that my credit card is "not supported in the Peruvian app store"

  • About ready to give

    Well I dont know where to turn, I have tried everything I can think of so Im hoping someone might be able to help. I have the same problem whether I use winxp pro 32 or 64 bit OS. My system freezes and locks up while watching online videos (SBC YAHOO) or playing a BF2 game. When I begin running BF2 (before I pick a game server) if I have SLI enabled I get two thin vertical lines running down the length of my monitor about a half an inch from each other to the left most side of my monitor. These two verticals lines have a green retangular block about inch long between them around the middle of the monitor that grows bigger with louder sounds and smaller with quietier sounds and almost disappears with no audio. Once at my desktop my speakers starting making loud popping noise without me doing anything and in addition my system freezes periodically and the only way to restart my pc with both circumstances is too do a hard restart.All drivers are current. Im running bios version 009 on my A8N32 motherboard, beta version 82.2 graphics drivers for my 7800GTX videos cards on both the 32 bit and 64 bit OS , 6.82 version chipset drivers for my motherboard on both the 32 or 64 bit OS. Creative Fatalty 32 bit and 64 bit drivers version 2.07.0004. I have onboard sound disabled in bios, all sata ports are enable in bios and every other setting pretty much at default. Im not overclocking anything. I have four (two pair in Raid 0) WD Raptors on my nforce4 chipset. I dont have any device manager conflicts . I can play audio cd's without any problem but then again I sometimes have instantanous audio popping sounds or random lockups/freezes. But I always have problems watching online videos (of course with audio) or starting a new online BF2 game. I hope someone can help.

    <SPAN class=postbody>Well Im now just focused on winxp 32 bit. I tried the MS hotfix for dual cpu and updated the regisrty, udated my x2 4800+ drivers, disabled quiet and cool in BIOS, disabled the gpu load balancing (got rid of vertical lines) , disabled SLI and didnt choose the x-fi in BF2 audio section I kept it at default settings. I started the game and it ran without freezing for about a minute. I had to hard reset my system. About the only thing left to try is remove my Fatalty card and go with onboard sound or try keep the Fatalty card in and remove one of my 7800gtx cards effecti'vely getting rid of SLI. Im completely lost. BF2 or online videos freeze and lock up, I dont know what else to try.

  • I am at the point were im just about ready to smash my ipod against the wal

    my ipod seems to be frozen. it turns on ok but freezes as soon as it displays something.And Ive already tried the 5 r's

    Right... might be time for a trip to an Apple store to see if the guys there can help. Might at least prevent you damaging the wall...
    Seriously, have you left it overnight, powered it down, etc, etc? What do you see on the screen when it is frozen? Is the click wheel making any noise?

  • Absolutely Stumped and Ready to Give Up

    Hi all...
    I've been searching and searching through the forums and the help articles to find out how to fix this problem, and I absolutely cannot figure it out. It makes no sense to me.
    I cannot get the binding navigator to save changes to the database. I've created a new project, tried on different computers and still does not work no matter what I do.
    Here's what I've done so far. I've added a new form to my project, completely blank and new. I've taken a Table from an SQL database and dragged it from the Data Sources Window onto the form, just like I should do. As usual, the bindingnavigator, bindingsource,
    tableadapter all show up. When I check to see what is in the SAVE button, the following code is present, which all seems fine to me:
    Me.Validate()
    Me.Table2BindingSource.EndEdit()Me.TableAdapterManager.UpdateAll(Me.Database1_Data_Set)
    When I run it, I can of course add rows, delete rows, change data in rows with the binding navigator, but anything I do does not show up in the database after having clicked the save button.
    I've checked to see if the binding source is recognizing that there is changes to be made (.haschanges) and it indeed knows that there's changes to made. I've verified this a couple ways, one way is by doing this:
    MsgBox("hi")
    Me.Validate()
    MsgBox(Me.Database1_Data_Set.HasChanges)
    Me.Table2BindingSource.EndEdit()
    Me.TableAdapterManager.UpdateAll(Me.Database1_Data_Set)
    MsgBox(Me.Database1_Data_Set.HasChanges)
    The first messagebox I used to make sure that the clicking on the save button was actually fired. Indeed it is. I have it messagebox me before the .updateall and after...which comes up as it should, which is haschanges=true before the update and haschanges=false
    after the update. I have even tried adding the acceptchanges command after updating all. None of this works. It never saves to the database. I've trapped the code in a TRY and catch with a messagebox if there are any errors, and no errors come up.
    I've tried the infamous changing of the .xsd and .mdf property CopytoOutputDirectory to if newer and even tried do not copy, and none of these fix the problem, it still persists on not saving to the database. The database I am using is a very simple database,
    literally one column with generic words like 'red' 'blue' green' frank', etc. I made it simple on purpose so I could see if it was a table issue, but still no saving to database.
    This is a local database. I'm completely stumped and ready to give up. No matter what I do, it does not work. I need help on this if you're willing.
    One thing I have noticed is that after I click the save button, if I then close the form but stay in runtime, then re-open the form, the data that I changed is still showing on the binding navigator. I also put a button on the form and had it refill the
    data to see and when I click it, the data on the binding navigator reflects the changes I made.. HOWEVER, as soon as I end the program, hit stop on the build and then re-play it, go into the the form the data is back to where it was from the start, and nothing
    is changed. So it seems like it is showing the changes during run-time, but never actually updating the root database file, and when it's shut down it loses all the changes that it shows (not that it matters, because it's not even updating the database).
    The database and its table have no special settings, just a plain old database created through the wizard, and one column of simple data of about 5 rows or so.
    Can anyone help at all? If I can't save changes to the database, then it's over.
    BTW i'm using Visual Studio 2013.

    Thanks both for your replies. I really appreciate your help. I'm not sure what you mean by keeping SQL studio manager open, make change in the physical database then refresh in server manager...I messed around and tried to figure that out, but I don't think
    I was even in the right place (SQL server object explorer?)...
    The tool I use to see if the database is updated, is by viewing the data in the SERVER EXPLORER. I hit refresh first then right click the table and choose show data.
    I ran this code on a button press:
    Dim sqlConnection1 As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection("Data Source=(LocalDB)\v11.0;AttachDbFilename=C:\Users\STyler\Desktop\vs10\Database1.mdf;Integrated Security=True")
    Dim cmd As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand
    cmd.CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.Text
    cmd.CommandText = "UPDATE Table2 SET [Depth] = @Depth WHERE [ID] = 2"
    cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Depth", "gfakjld")
    cmd.Connection = sqlConnection1
    sqlConnection1.Open()
    cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
    sqlConnection1.Close()
    ...and the change was made in the database. It's just not updating through the binding navigator.
    Can you further explain how I would go about using your suggestion about:
    If the database is SQL-Server then keep SQL Studio Manager open, make a change in the physical (thinking not on the server) database then refresh in SQL-Server Manager?
    Thanks both...

  • Ready to give up

    I am truly ready to give up on Photoshop Elements. I just purchased version 10 and had problems from the beginning. I asked several questions about why all my photos will not appear in my folders in Folder View in Organizer. I have followed all instructions I could find, but Organizer just spins and spins and takes forever to show anything, And then it only shows partial contents out of order or now, nothing in any folder at all. If I tell it to import again, it tells me the photos are already in the catalog.  I have uninstalled PSE completely, removing ALL folders which were missed in the uninstall. I have done this twice. Also, I told it I did not want to back up/sync online and discovered it had already backed up 1.6g. I could not find how to access this online backup to clear it. So, before I jump up and down on the disks, any help or link to real-time help would be appreciated. Thanks for listening to me vent, but after 5 days of struggling I am desperate!

    The folder location view shows all the images of the folder selected in tree hierarchy. So if you want to see all the images present in catalog you need to switch to thumbnail view or import batch view. You can access your online backup by signing to photoshop.com with credentials. On Photoshop.com, under libraries you will find all your backed up data.

    How can I get someone to answer the phone? I'm ready to give VERIZON my business. I sat on the phone for over 20 minutes only to be transferred to "Sales." I then sat on the phone for another 15 minutes!!!! I finally hung up.

    It takes an enormous amount of patience and time to get through to a qualified person.
    My Samsung S5 was locked out and needed a factory reset. Including attempts to achieve this locally, it took over an hour before my problem was even addressed.
    You may be interested in my journey to a very good technical support person.
    First I called the local sales person who had given me his personal business card with the friendly advice to call me with any questions. No answer at about 8:30 am when the business was open. His voice mailbox was full.
    Then I called the local store where I had purchased the phone. The person who answered the phone had learned all the proper stock phrases, but was not familiar with the issue, stated that there were no customers in the store, and I should go there in about an hour when there would be more staff. He suggested dialing *411 from my phone (which was locked). Then he gave me a number to call Verizon, which he had to look up, and it took a minute or so. The number was (removed). That is an internal number for employees and contractors and requires a code to access, obviously not designed for customers' use. He finally cut me off by stating that there were a number of customers in line waiting for his attention!
    After researching all my papers I found 800-922-0204 on my bill. The automated message suggested a hold time of 5 minutes, it took 20 minutes for a Customer Service Representative to pick up, and then I was referred to technical assistance. The hold time was announced to take 5 minutes, after 12 minutes I finally was connected.
    Fortunately I had my computer set up for Skype on a loudspeaker, and was able to do some other paperwork while waiting.
    Persistence was rewarded by having the good fortune to be connected to a very experienced, qualified and patient technical support staff with the name of Thomas (removed). He solved my problem, answered my questions during the process of resetting the phone, and gave an example of courteous and kind customer service that I had never experienced before when dealing with any major internet company.

  • MY ITUNES WILL NOT OPEN- I'VE TRIED JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING HELP ME PLEASE!!!

    I am so depressed and angry..My beloved Itunes is not opening. I get the error report: "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down sorry for the inconvience"
    I've tried the misconfig option,uninstalling and reinstalling the itunes, rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling quicktime, i did the delete temp option,just about everything I've tried- please to anyone who can help me, give me your solutions please I'm begging you- I never been so lost with out my ipod/itunes...
    ANything you guys know that may help is fine..I'm in need of help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    OK, I've been messin with this for about 4 hours now, I finally found the solution to my problem and would like to share in hopes of helping. Every time I tried to open itunes I recieved this error message:
    "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
    If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
    Please tell microsoft about the problem.
    We have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.
    <send error report> <don't send error reptort>
    I sent the error report ... and eventually got this link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302372
    Which basically lays out my whole problem - and I did all of the suggested steps but still...
    same message... same problem... and no solution.
    I came to the mssg boards and tried all these suggested steps that are on this post to no avail. Reinstalled everything over and over. Then I found this:
    for itunes 6.0.x, the first thing i check for with one of those is a broken quicktime. does your quicktime currently launch, or does it give you an error message?
    try a careful standalone QT 7.0.3 reinstall.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
    I went and downloaded the standalone quicktime, installed it. Opened the quicktime program to make sure it worked, which it did, then tried itunes again.......
    WALLLA IT WORKS!!!! Finally
    hope this might help, good luck.

  • I'm ready to give up on the

    i just got my zen micro on Friday night, and it's dri'ven me to so much frustration that I'm about ready to sell it off after just 2 days and swtich to iPod instead.
    st thing i got it on Friday was to charge it up fully and started loading songs. Who knew, lucky me got one where the headphone jack didn't work. only the left earphone had sound, so i had to take it back and get it changed on Saturday. after charging it till 3am last nite, i started to d/l songs onto it, but met up with the language problem. All my chinese songs titles wouldn't display properly. After spending 2 hours fiddling around with Creative mediasource, Zen micro explorer, windows media player, windows explorer, and checking out this forum, and changing all the settings as pple had posted on this forum, i gave up and went to sleep.
    this morning, i decided to try again, yippee, the chinese fonts worked well. But i still can't see chinese fonts on Creative mediasource. I have to use win media player or ZM explorer to transfer songs. BUT! but now, i'm trying to d/l more songs, so I connected the USB cable, and voila! the 'Docked' screen doesn't show up! the USB port is detected (mine is USB. so win xp shows a warning message), but none of the programs detect the Zen Micro. it's as good as not being connected at all, so i can't d/l anything now!!!
    another thing is the s/w provided with the Zen Micro is totally not user-friendly at all. When i first installed it, i got 2 pages of gibberish where i had to select something from 2 drop-down menus, before reaching the page where they install the 4 s/w. so i totally have no idea what i selected in the 2 pages before. And i still haven't figured out how to use Creative mediasource (no idea which panel shows what info) and how to display languages on it properly.
    i'm not some genius at computers and gadgets, but so far have found it painless to install/use my VCR, VCD and DVD players, palm, no-name mp3 player and loads of other s/w, so why am i having so much problems with the Zen micro!!!
    Can somebody pleeaseee help me with the USB thing and explain the s/w installation thing, before i decide to blow the $400 and start bashing it on my table. arghhh!

    the language thing is the least of my problems right now. i actually managed to figure it out somehow. right now the ZM displays Traditional chinese nicely, but only if i use the Zen Micro Explorer or Windows Media Player to transfer the songs. I now have the same problem as cvmc, the songs that have Simplified Chi or Japanese shows up as gibberish. Is there some way to make Trad Chi, Simp Chi and Japanese display nicely all at one time?
    Anyway, right now, since the ZM doesn't detect the USB cable when i plug it in, there's nothing i can do at all. My computer detects the ZM, but the ZM doesn't show the "Docked" screen,
    i really don't know what to do now. Do i take it in to Creative for another exchange? or what?
    I was thinking of getting more stuff from Creative, but just one experience has really put me off buying Creative products

  • I am ready to give up on the Iphone RE:  emails

    I have a few more days left in my return window, and I am seriously considering it. I wasn't able to send emails, but receive them, so I took the iphone back to AT&T and he redid my settings, tested it while I was there and was able to get the phone to send an email. I emailed a test email to my friend and almost immediately got a response from her that she had received it. I was able to reply with no problem. Now, a couple of hours later, I am at home and I can't get it to send an email. It seems to get hung up on sending it and takes forever for it to finally give me an error message which usually says something to the effect of a failed server or something. I have wanted this phone for so long and want to love it, but honestly, I am ready to give up on it and get something else. Can anyone help me figure out what I am doing wrong????
    Heather

    Ok, that CWMX.COM bit is proof now to me it is because BellSouth blocks you from sending unless on their network. that is a free server (workaround) to send. It is needed when on Edge. But now that you are home and on WiFi (which is a prefered connection as it is MUCH faster) now while on WiFi, you ARE on their network and they don't like you using the free server. You need to have it set to what your network (ISP) wants (which is what you computer has setup on it if you look at those settings, odds are same as incoming).
    So here is the issue you have.
    The guy set it up that you can send email anytime you are on Edge (which will be when you are not home on your WiFi network).
    When at home, you cannot send email while on wifi unless you temp. turn off WiFi (where you just said you saw where). If you turn it off, you can send. Then you can turn WiFi back on to get fast speed with internet again.
    So all in all not too bad. When not at home, you can send. When at home...well you have your computer for email....but if you need to send via phone, you have to turn off wifi.
    Once again, this is BellSouth stopping you not the iPhone. You may consider getting a free email account elsewhere (gmail for example) and telling all your friends to email you there from now on and just use bellsouth for junk mail, shopping, etc.

  • Just about had it with N97 GPS

    I've tried just about everything to get the GPS on my phone working, without success. Even had my phone in repair for 3 weeks, it worked after that. Using 'location' I could get a fix quite fast and pretty precise. But when I restored the data from my backup it stopped working again. After that I tried a hard reset, afterwards restoring my data by synching with Ovi Suite, it worked again. And after the update to Maps 3.03, it was gone AGAIN. Now I've ben resetting it as if I have nothing better to do but nothing gets it working again... I have had it with this phone's GPS, it's clear that it's a pure software fault... Any possible ideas on a fix?

    I have to agree completely.!
    I have hard and soft reset my N97 over 10 times in the last 6 months trying to get GPS Navigation to work.
    Ever since the update for Free Maps from Nokia the GPS just refuses to work, whereas before it worked like a dream.
    I have emailed and taken it to the Service Centre and the get it to work without any updates or free maps and then give it back.  Obviously as soon as the phone tries to update or receive Free Maps from Nokia the GPS stops again.
    I had just become used to using my N97 for GPS in the car and was even recommending it to friends as a better option than having to buy a separate GPS.  Now its just turned in to a huge headache that Nokia wants nothing to do with.  I would welcome any Nokia contact about this, but i wont hold my breath.
    WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU NOKIA ?

  • I've just about had it with Lion

    I've just about had it with Lion.  I am suffering such severe performance problems with it on my iMac that I'm seriously considering either downgrading to Snow Leopard or running Windows 7 in Boot Camp on the box.
    My iMac is a 2.66 GHz iMac Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM, which is a decent specification.  I am running the latest, fully patched 10.7.2 version of OS X and the performance is absolutely terrible.  Pretty much every operation of any significance that I perform results in the spinning beach-ball.  Even just switching between things like Firefox and Finder causes major delays.  I have searched high and low on these forums and tried everything, including repairing permissions, etc. and the problem is still the same.
    The problem I think is related to I/O.  All methods of access to the disk is incredibly slow, including USB file transfer, network file transfer, and even moving a file from one part of the disk to another part of the same disk.  The problem is there in Finder and also when doing a file copy using the command line.  I had no such problems with Snow Leopard on the same computer but as soon as I put Lion on there, I lost the entire performance of the machine.  In desperation, I even completely re-formatted my disk and reinstalled Lion and as soon as I started it up, with the factory fresh OS, I had performance issues right from the start.
    The only conclusion I can come to is that Lion does not work well on some older Macs.  I had no idea why, but I know that I am not alone.
    If anyone has any suggestions, I am more than happy to hear them to prevent me from having to downgrade the box, but unless I can fix this then that will have to happen.
    Thanks,
    Ian.

    This 17" Early 2011 MacBook Pro with the fast and blessed Snow Leopard will be my last Mac and this is coming from a Mac user from day one, even before with the Apple IIe.
    I don't like Lion because of the direction Apple is taking OS X and it's UI changes, Internet installs etc.
    Apple needs to learn what happened to Ubuntu when it mandated Unity UI and didn't give Linux users choice like they once had, they all flocked to Linux Mint instead.

    A lot of people don't know but EFI (the firmware in Mac's) was designed by Intel for the chief purpose of Digital Rights Management, basically standing between the operating system and the hardware and watching everything going on, reporting it over the Internet, stoping the OS calls to the hardware to play back media etc.
    http://www.uefi.org/about/
    It's not like the old firmware of old, it's really a whole operating system unto itself. Programs can be installed in EFI, in fact I do so with rEFIt, which allows my Mac's to triple and quad boot other operating systems. (note, won't work reliably with Lion only Snow Leopard, requires updating)
    http://refit.sourceforge.net/
    Intel also designed Thunderbolt, so I'm suspectign there is some sort of DRM scheme going on with Thunderbolt monitors.
    If Apple mandated DRM checking in Lion, naturally if you've got EFI taking up more processor cycles, that's going to slow your machine down.
    Also you might not know this, but for Early 2011 Mac's when Apple rolled out Lion, there was a series of Mac bricking EFI firmware updates. I had a bad suspicion and didn't apply the updates, becaue I frankly don't need Lion internet Recovery. So I'm suspecting there is a WHOLE lot of monkey business going on in EFI recently as Apple exerts more control in this area.
    The only conclusion I can come to is that Lion does not work well on some older Macs.  I had no idea why, but I know that I am not alone.
    Lion added more bloat that makes older hardware slower, it's been tested Lion is slower than Snow Leopard. It's how Apple gets you to upgrade hardware, by bloating down the OS and programs.
    I've tried Lion on a 15" Intel Core 2 Duo MBP and reverted it back to Snow Leopard. Slow downs, video issues etc.
    I don't recommend installing Lion other than on Early 2011 Mac's and later.
    If anyone has any suggestions, I am more than happy to hear them to prevent me from having to downgrade the box, but unless I can fix this then that will have to happen.
    You did a fresh install, that would have cured any performance issues with defragmentation or bad install.
    You can't upgrade your hard drive in iMac's to 7,200 RPM, because Apple has placed proprietary something on it for heat monitoring, so your screwed there for buying a closed box.
    So yes, upgrade to 10.6.8 and remain there on that machine, there is nothing you can really do.
    Welcome to the crowd.

    I'm about ready to migrate everything to google and gmail. Once again, the iCloud iMap server is rejecting my password and refusing to get my mail. This has happened dozens of times since iCloud went live. My password has NEVER been changed. The same password works flawlessly in iTunes store and Apple store. Somebody please give me a reason NOT to cut bait on iCloud.

    iCloud Mail is down.  Has been for a while.  I would hope this will be resolved soon.
    I agree with you.  iCloud does not seem to have anywhere near a 99.9% uptime.  :-)

    So, I have just about had it. For nine days now,  I have valiantly tried to move my library to an external drive. At first, I attempted to move it to my 2TB Time capsule. iTunes didn't like its new home though and moved home without telling me. So then there were two libraries. I meshed them back together reluctantly and iTunes in a silent revolt, absolutely refused to use its own 'Keep Library Organized' criteria and may as well have thrown my music against the wall. Seriously, my 5 year old nephew has his computer files better managed. Then I bought a 3TB Time Capsule and you may ask yourself why??? Well, iTunes doubled in size- although when I ran apps that are designed to find duplicate iTunes files, it deleted the music I actually bought from iTunes. So then I watched as iTunes got it back. How you ask; I run a MacBook Air, iMac and Mac mini in my house - as soon as one powered up it hit the net like a sailor on leave and re-downloaded it all without abandon. I tried to keep the libraries separate, no success there. I tried to keep them unified; iTunes response was to ask me if I wanted to join iTunes Match every time I logged on to my computer and on any computer - my iTunes match song number has been as high as 24,367 and as low as 11,112. And I can't simply refuse iTunes. No one refuses iTunes. Refusal to allow iTunes Match to run through all 24000 songs again was to revoke my rights to the songs that were once part of my library. If I took a long time to decide or was visibly impatient while iTunes did its little 3 hour scan it would arbitrarily decide that music I bought from iTunes was ineligible for iTunes Match. How could that possibly be??? I am missing music, or at least iTunes tells me so by showing me that lovely exclamation point. I have tried backing up my computer to do a full system restore and start all over. Time Capsule claims I have 979 GB of data and takes its sweet time to even back up one gig (about 18 minutes) even though I can transfer files to my Time Capsule at about 1 GB every 40 seconds. I guess though performing back-ups are somewhat like government jobs; it will get done, when it gets done. The back up requirement of 979 GB is surprising though, my Mac claims that I currently occupy just about 25% of my 2TB drive. The discrepancy, who knows, but I think the solution lies somewhere in iTunes. But maybe iPhoto. But that is for another time.

    After admittedly only a quick read the one thing you don't say is how you are trying to make this move.  Most people with moving library issues do it the wrong way.  Plenty of web sites tell you how to do it the wrong way.
    If the iTunes application is started before the drive with the library is fully mounted and awake iTunes will revert back to the internal drive.

    If your phone is locked to a particular carrier, you must contact them to request they unlock it. Once they've taken care of that and you've followed the instructions to complete the unlock process, you will be able to use the phone elsewhere.
