Toshiba L505 Touchpad

I have been looking for a solution to this problem for months, but it never really bothered me until recently, when I've actually been using my laptop more on my lap.
My touchpad has not been working at all since I installed Arch. As I mentioned above, I've looked into this problem a great deal, and have viewed countless other forum posts and such that have assisted me in narrowing my diagnosis, but at this point I am stuck.
This is what's up:
I have installed xf86-input-synaptics.

  • Toshiba L505 Charger?

Hello, and I have a Toshiba L505 with Windows 7 and I have the charger plugged in, but it says no means of it charging and as of right now it is losing battery. The Light isn't on in the front, which it usually is. I came home from school and it just was off for some reason. I need this to study for my exam tomorrow since I am in college. Please help Fast!

The Satellite L505 uses a standard 19 volt 3.42 amp power supply. I use a voltmeter to check the charger. If the charger is putting out 19 volts, its not the charger. A lot of the Toshiba laptops use the same power supply. Provided that the voltage is the same, 19 volts, and the amperage is the same or greater, it should work in your computer.
Your battery is only going to last a couple hours, so you're going to need a charger as soon as possible. Check with a local computer store or computer repair center. Bring the computer with you. Beyond checking for the volts and amperage, you want to make sure that the connector fits too.

  • Random BSOD when using more than 1 stick of RAM - Toshiba L505-S5990

    Greetings.
A friend's Toshiba Satellite L505-S5990 began having BSODs randomly - during boot, inside Windows, when shutting down etc. It also has problems turning on - I have to repeatedly press the power button. Sometimes these problems would not appear for days or weeks.
It has 2 sticks of Samsung branded RAMs, 1x2gb and 1x1gb - they seem identical except for the capacity (both bearing stickers marked PC2-6400s-666). I think these are the factory installed RAMs though I am not sure.
When I try to use either of the RAM sticks alone, placing either one at different slots, the BSOD problem seems to disappear. ((1)1x1gb on slot a, (2)1x1gb on slot b, (3)1x2gb on slot a, (4)1x2gb on slot b). When I put in both sticks on either slot, bsods appear.
Windows 7's built in Windows Memory Diagnostics found no problems with both sticks. I tested them one at a time. The HDD also gave no signs of problems when tested with chkdsk (/f /r) on another PC.
I reformatted the notebook and reinstalled Windows 7 32 bit using 1 stick of ram (the 1 gb I think). Still crashes when using both sticks.
    Please help. Thanks in advance.
ps I am currently downloading updated bios and drivers to see if installing those would help.

Your support page is here - http://support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome?freeText=2439393
Your specs say that your laptop was configured with 3GB of RAM and it can have a maximum of 8GB.
    Just to add:
I have a similar issue on my old Toshiba for approximately 3 years, it will only run with a maximum of 2GB of ram. Any more and the BSOD or just black screen. This issue was guessed to be some type of power issue by service tech. I purchased a new power supply and battery incase that may be the issue but no fix. Works for what I use it for.

  • Toshiba NB200 Touchpad Not Smooth?

I bought a Toshiba NB200-10Z this week and I'm pleased with my purchase, very stylish. The only thing is if my fingers are dry the touchpad feels a bit rough in smoothness when gliding your finger across it. But if my fingers have a bit of moisture on its fine and smooth to use. Does anyone else experience this problem? I don't think this is a problem with mine individually I think its the texture of the touchpad.
    Thanks,
    Ben.

In my opinion NB200 is not some special notebook with special developed hardware and touchpad is not different as on other notebook models from different manufacturers.
At the moment I have three different notebooks in front of me and tochpads on all of them work well and properly.
Try to change settings in mouse properties, especially for sensitivity. Maybe this will help.

  • Toshiba L505-LS5007 Recovery Partition

I got this used laptop from a friend and it don't have a Recovery Partition.   My main question is: Did it come with a Recovery Partition? It came with some home made Recovery disks so I am good there.  Thanks pcpunk

I already have Recovery discs but I think they were made after the Recovery Partition was deleted.
That's not possible, since the discs are created from that partition. But recovery discs may be ordered from Toshiba here.
The original Recovery Media Will Create Partitions even if they do not already exist?  I have read that W7 WILL do this,...
A generic Windows 7 installation disc, whether plain retail or OEM will not create the recovery partition (as you've discovered). It does create a partition which contains the Recovery Environment (WinRE), but that's another story.
The OEM (Toshiba) creates that partition to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents, which includes all the special drivers, utilities, and applications originally on the disk. Among those things on the hard drive was the recovery partition.
Again, when you restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media, the drive is wiped clean and all the original partitions are restored. That's necessary when the hard drive is replaced.
See the section Recovering the Internal Storage Drive which begins on p. 61 of the User's Guide.

    Hope that settles the matter.

  • My toshiba laptop touchpad has disabled itself...

I have no idea what category this should be in, but I know the solution is fairly simple.
This happened when I plugged in a USB mouse, but when I unplugged it, the touchpad didn't start working again.
I had this problem before on Windows 8 and had to go to mouse settings to sort it. I recently updated to Windows 8.1, and can't find these settings. When I search them, it comes up in the Main Windows 8.1 settings area, but the settings aren't in this area,
and I can't find where they would be located.
These are the settings I used before in Windows 8:
It doesn't show the touchpad option, but where the device name is shown, for mine it said the touchpad and the mouse name. I simply had to enable the touchpad and it worked. Do these settings still exist in Windows8.1? If so how do I find them?...

had to go to mouse settings to sort it. I recently updated to Windows 8.1, and can't find these settings
Use the Taskbar Notification area Show hidden icons to find  Synaptics Pointing Device.
However, I can find the Mouse Properties dialog you were looking for but only by searching for  Mouse.   Nothing else.  Actually there is something closer:  Win-W, mou bu
but I have no idea why searching for Buttons would occur to anyone with this requirement.  I imagine it may have to do with Buttons being the first tab in the dialog?  Who knows?  More quirks learned.  You could also have noticed it (fleetingly)
as you typed mou t  on your way to typing Touchpad.   <eg>

  • Boot-up problem with Toshiba L505-S6955

I had downloaded YouSendIt client, internet was a bit slow, thought I'd re-boot the computer.
But when I turned it back on, it hits the Toshiba splash screen, then goes to a blank screen with a large static cursor in the upper left hand corner.
It doesn't go any further than that.
I tried Toshiba boot-up disks, but it still doesn't boot up.
    Any suggestions?

Not a solution, and I have no idea why the Racovery CD won't boot, but the blinking cursor in the upper left sounds like a problem with the HD.  I have seen that when the boot files are corrupted, and maybe when there was a problem with a cable.
Quick thing to try would be to pop the hard drive out and back in a couple times, sometimes it's just a simple matter of the connection between the HD and the computer.  If that doesn't help, then it's likely that the drive has died.

  • Toshiba L505-ES5018 Speakers work in headphone jack... headphones do not

I started having an issue with sound in my headphones last night. So, I've been brainstorming today, and this is what I've come up with.
First, the sound issue itself... The sound is sometimes muffled, sometimes garbled, and sometimes comes from only one headphone speaker. This is resolved by pulling the headphone jack half the way out.
Second, diagnostic attempts... I tried several pairs of headphones. They all produce some variation of the same issue. However, there does not appear to be an issue with the computer speakers plugged into the same jack (I verified by using the same segment in the same movie to test the sound of each device). No sound issues with the speakers. Also, this is no sound issues with a set of USB headphones.
Third, attempts to resolve the issue... I've been to all the forums I have found through Bing to troubleshoot. I've cleaned the jack to rule out lint being the issue. I've updated the drivers (they were up to date). I've uninstalled and allowed Windows to reinstall the RealTek drivers. And, I've checked to make sure the Network Adapter was disabled. They only thing I haven't done is physically removed the battery and power source from the computer and pressed the on/off button to discharge any remaining charge (freaks me out a lil).
My issue differs from other's description of similar issues, because the speakers work when plugged into the same jack. Any thoughts on how to resolve this? I bought the computer Feb 2010.

I wouldn't rule out the port just because the speakers work. Since all the headphones were having some variation of the issue, it seems plausible to me that there's an issue with the port.

  • Satellite L505-10J - Can't play longer than 30-60 min

    Hi,
I just bought the Toshiba L505-10J last week and I'm really satisfied with my choice, but when I start a game like Counter Strike Source or Risen I Have some strange Issues. The first 30-60 Minutes are Ok but then the Sound starts cracking and my Mouse (Razer Lachesis) stops moving when I'm holding a Key on the Keyboard (for example W for moving forward). When I switch to my desktop while playing this problem is gone (I opened Notepad pressed down W and moved the Mouse. No problems at all). When I Switch back it's there again. The only solution to this problem ist to reboot my Computer. Then I can play the next 30-60 min. before it starts all over.
I already reinstalled Windows 7 but the problem is still there.
When i use my Touchpad instead of my mouse it's the same. Can't play longer than 30-60 min...
This is not acceptable because I want to play games on my Notebook from time to time.
Hope someone can help me and sorry for my bad english, I'm from germany.

    Hi Willey,
Im not quite sure but maybe your notebook is overheating. Have you clean the notebook using compressed air spray or can you notice if the notebook is really hot during you play a game?
Furthermore it would be interesting to know what display driver you are using. I had a similar issue after I installed a non Toshiba display. The graphic card was overheating and so the computer freezes. After this I installed the latest version from the Toshiba website and everything was fine again.
    Check this!!!

  • Low audio on L505-ES5018

I can hardly hear the external speaker output on my brand new Toshiba L505-ES5018. All volume controlls appear to be up but it's still very low. Headphone volume seems to be fine.

Here is one suggested fix that works for many of us who experience the low sound issues on laptops which use the Realtek HD Audio drivers. These directions are for Windows 7, other operating systems may require a slightly different set of steps.
First, Download and install the latest Realtek HD Audio drivers from the Realtek website. If the ".exe" or executable file version of the Realtek HD audio driver is downloaded, this file may need to be run twice (run installer, reboot computer, run the installer a second time, then reboot the computer a second time) to properly install the audio driver.
Second, once the audio drivers have been updated, enable "Loudness Equalization" on either the Start --> Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Realtek HD Audio Manager --> Sound Effects tab, then click OK to save the setting change. Or on the Start --> Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Sound --> Speaker Properties (select Speakers then the Properties button) --> Enhancements tab, scroll down the list of sound effects to enable "Loudness Equalization" then select the OK button to save the setting changes.
Once the Realtek drivers have been updated and the "Loudness Equalization" has been enabled the system sound audio level is much louder, however the DVD and Audio CD audio levels might continue to be low for some users. Some find that setting the Equalizer, found under the Realtek HD Audio Manager Sound Effects tab or on the Speaker Enhancement tab, to "Powerful" seems to help with the sound levels.

  • Does Satellite L505-13J support 3G? Sim Card under battery available

    Hi,
I was trying to clean my toshiba L505-13J laptop, when I found a sign of a SIM under the battery.
I tried to put a SIM but it doesn't hold in its place. It is directly "swollowed".
So does my laptop support 3G SIM? if so, how could I put it?
    Regards

    Hi
No, the Satellite L505-13J does not support 3G module.
I assume that some models of the Satellite L500 / L505 series were equipped with the 3G module.
The point is that the same bottom cover has been used in whole L500 series and therefore there is an sim card slot available under the main battery.

  • Satellite L505-10P - Is there really an Express card slot?

    Hello,
In the features of the Toshiba L505-10P, an Express card slot is mentionned. I feel a bit stupid to ask this but where is this slot? I can see something which looks like this above the Esata input but it's closed. How do you open the slot?
    Thank you very much
    Anaon

    Hi buddy,
Tonny is right. There is no Express Card Slot on Satellite L505. It will not supported and you cant add such a slot.
But you have a Bridge Media Slot that supports memory cards like SD, SDHC, etc.
By the way, youre welcome in forum! ;)

  • Toshiba 'fn' keys don't work after update to kernel from pacman

I updated my system, a toshiba NB505, which had working 'fn' keys. (screen brightness specifically)
I don't know if it's possible to go back in kernel releases, if they're deleted or such (I had previously thought that maybe the fallback was just the last working kernel, nope), or if this is a problem with something else.

    chrisportela wrote:is xev a command/program?
yes. Try man pages as well.
You can also use xbindkeys to figure out the keybinding. For eg. for my wife's toshiba L505, when I clicked Alt + F2, xbindkeys returned a code of
    Mod1 + Mod2 + F2
I think..or something like that. I will go home and check later tonight.

  • Can I use product key from Windows 7 32bit to 64bit?

Hi, i have a Toshiba L505-10V and the original cds(2) with Windows 7 prenium 32-bit.
I have downloaded windows 7 prenium 64bit from here http://www.techverse.net/download-windows-7-iso-x86-x64-microsofts-official-servers/
I use the key from 32 bit but it says its not valid. Is it possible to work with the same key?
Also i download belarc to recoginise my 32bit windows key and it shows me different key from that is on the base of my pc.

    Hi
According notebook specification your notebook was delivered with preinstalled Win7 64bit Home Premium and you got 32bit version on recovery DVD.
Both recovery versions are designed for your notebook model and both versions contain activation code so that both versions must not be activated.
I presume you didnt create recovery disc for preinstalled Win 7 64bit version.
You cannot use product key listed in 32bit version. If you use own Windows version you must enter valid product key that you must buy from Microsoft.

  • "Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer your files and settings." Why?

I saved my files and settings from a previous installation of windows 7 to an external hard drive using windows easy transfer. Now when I try to transfer those files and setting to my new installation I get the following message:
Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer your files and settings.
The message pops up only a few seconds after the transfer begins.
Why is this?! I need those files and windows has screwed me. Everything is basically the same as before I reinstalled. Same computer, same windows 7 installation just recovered to factory settings. Same system language as before. BTW I'm on a Toshiba L505 laptop
    running Windows 7 Home Premium.
I have tried all the usual suspects such as a clean boot and uninstalling my antivirus to rule out third party interference. I have more than enough space on both my computer and on the external hard drive. I have tried only transferring a user account a
few MBs large. I have reinstalled the OS twice just in case something went wrong there. I have clicked on the .MIG file directly. All lead to the same error message. The transfer file seems to be intact and not currupt
Is there another software other than WET that can use the same transfer file that WET created to restore my files? Please help me solve this if you can or at least point me in the right direction because right now I'm clueless. I can't emphasize how important
those files are to me. I've searched for solutions on several forums and it seems that this is a problem people have been having for years now and windows hasn't provided an answer yet.
An interesting note, When I reboot the laptop after trying to do the transfer, a new user account appears at startup alongside the one I normally use. This new user account has the same unique name of the user account I am trying to restore but that's where
the similarity ends. All the settings for this account are default settings and empty folders. What does this mean?

Hi Vincent, like I said I tried all of that already and it failed. Thanks a lot for trying to help though. Imperfect1, so sorry I took so long to reply. No that's not the case. I was trying to restore from x86 to x86.
Well, I finally gave up. I've scoured the internet for a solution. You'll probably find duplicates of this post all over. This has been a known software problem with Windows Easy Transfer for years and Microsoft has done nothing to fix it or warn users of
    the risks. Shameful!
Anyway, I managed to recover my files with this life saver of a program here>
    http://www.visser.com.au/blog/migrecover-for-microsofts-windows-easy-transfer/
MigRecover Utility for Microsoft's Windows Easy Transfer.
I can't express how grateful I am to the developer and the host for the download. You guys are the most awesomest people ever. Cheers.
Here's how you modify the syntax in commmand prompt if you used a password to protect the mig file in WET>
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/68910c1a-3c4b-47af-bb22-0e7ec6f2054f/
Just remember to change the source drive letter in "C:\SaveData.MIG" to the actual drive it's stored on if your MIG file is on an external drive like mine was; whether it's E:, F:, G: or whatever.
Good luck to anyone with the same issue who stumbles upon this post. I hope it helps you as it did me.
