Toshiba Portege S100-S1133 Laptop - Intenet (Cable or Wireless) cuts off when phone rings

Toshiba Portege S100-S1133 Laptop, Intel(R) Pentium(R) M, processor 1.73GHz 795MHz, 512 MB of RAM.  Internet (cable or wireless - COMCAST service) cuts off when the house phone (AT&T service) rings.  The HP Laptop in the house doesn't have this problem.  COMCAST can't fix the problem.

The only way to fix the problem entirely is to not have any 2.4GHz cordless phones in the house. You can try to change the wireless channel on your router but it probably won't be far enough from the 2.4GHz phones to help. I assume when you say it shares internet you mean that your home computer is connected in the back with ethernet and that is why the internet stays up on it. Your MBP connects wirelessly so it disconnects when the phone is in use.
Go to 192.168.1.1. Log in by leaving username blank and password is admin. [Follow these instructions|http://www.tutorial5.com/content/view/155/79> to change anything you need to (such as if you have unsecured wireless). Click wireless and under basic wireless settings you probably have channel 6 by default. Try channel 1. (Though you can also get into problems with wireless networks of neighbors interfering so download [Airport Radar|http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/networking_security/airportradar .html] and try to avoid channels that are nearby).
As I said the only solution is not using 2.4GHz phones.

  • Why are some of my purchased songs cutting off when I play them on my iPod but play fine on iTunes on my laptop?

Here's a question that's been bugging me for years, and I'm trying - again - to find an answer.  I have a couple dozen songs purchased off the iTunes Store that are clipped then I play the on my iPod (4th or 5th generation; sorry that I can't remember). They cut off in exactly the same places. Re-syncing never helps. The songs all play just fine on iTunes on my laptop.
What's going on? How do I fix it?  Thanks in advance!

Try deleting them from the iPod and redownloading them directly to the iPod
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    Next:
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Red Shimmering Display with Toshiba Portege S100

    Hello there,
after doing some partitioning with partition magic I came back to find that it had been unable to boot into windows and now had a red screen.
Rebooting I could get into windows however now parts of the screen has a red display (usually in black or blue bits of the display).
I've tired system restore, uninstalling and reinstalling display drivers and also updating the BIOS. I've also tried various linux live CD distributions but they also have a red tinge and some shimmering.
I don't have an external monitor to hook my laptop up to but I suspect it is more a corrupted hard drive issue than anything else. Does anyone have any ideas outside a complete wipe + reinstallation of windows?

    Hi there,
so, if you suspect the harddrive then why dont exchange it and give it a try?? I think maybe something of your graphics subsystem like vga-chip or lcd could be faulty, but thats just my opinion. :)
If you really try to change the harddrive and you got no success, then I suggest you to contact a local servicepartner for an hardwarecheckup or maybe a repair. Are you still in warranty?

  • Laptop cutting off when not plugged in

When not attached to the charger, my macbook pro (3 yrs old) will abruptly turn off. I can use it for 5-15 minutes and then the screen just goes black. At that time I can plug it in and turn it back on without a problem. I assume the battery is going bad. Any body know what's happening?

Sounds like the battery needs replacing, as you suspected.  Open System Information and find the battery info under Power.  Here's what mine looks like:

  • Portege S100: Not able to change JBOD to 1RAID-0 after HDD replacement

I put Fujitsu SATA HDD into Portege S100-s1133 than in the BIOS settings at raid array section I couldn't able to change built in hard drive form JBOD to 1RAID-0. When I made that change in BIOS it could not recognize the RAID drive so I could not install OS.
If anyone knows about this issue could you please help me?

    Hi
Before you will install the OS you will have to implement the RAID driver.
The RAID driver you will find on the Toshiba driver page!!!
Download it and save it on the FDD disk. Then connect the external FDD USB drive to the notebook. During the OS installation setup will ask you for a raid driver installation. As far as I can remember you need to press the S button.
But may I ask you what CD you use??? If you use the recovery CD you dont need to install the RAID driver additionally because this driver already exists on the CD.
Its only needed if you will install the OS from the original Microsoft OS CD
PS: Please check also you user manual. There is everything described in the simply way ;)

    Thank you.

    Hi
Unfortunately nobody here can help you with this. BIOS password is very important security feature and it cannot be solved on some public forums.
This can be solved with authorized service only.
Response code can be given by Toshiba only and they don't give it to anyone. Only authorized service provider can get it after check if notebook is not stolen.
Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and they can help you wth this.
    Bye and good luck.

  • Portege S100: Can't install Toshiba SD Host to use Toshiba Bluetooth SD Card2

I'm trying to install the Toshiba Bluetooth SD Card2 onto my Portege S100 but I can't get it to work, i get the error
"Could not open the Bluetooth ACPI device driver (tosrfec.sys). Try again?)
which suggests that the SD slot is not reading the card. I then went onto the Toshiba bluetooth section and found the driver files for the Toshiba SD Host Controller Driver (at http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/). I believe that I should install this as the Host Controller Driver, and not the SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller.
However, when i try to update the Driver, selecting specifically the folder of the Toshiba Host Controller Driver, it says that it couldn't find a better match than the one installed already. Therefore, I decided to install it manually, but instead, i get the error
"The specific location does not contain any information about your hardware"
I've run out of ideas, can anyone help me please?
    Thank you

  • Unable to boot Portege S100 after encrypting the HDD with SafeBoot

I am in the process of installing SafeBoot (McAfee Endpoint) full disk encryption on 100+ laptops, most of which are Toshiba. I'm using Device Encryption 5.1.5.0, Release 5300 (515-0015) and I've been able to successfully install it on a number of different Toshiba models, however, the Portege S100 is causing me a major problem. The SafeBoot Client software installs okay on Windows XP SP2 (and SP3) and encrypts the disk as normal but as soon as I restart it fails to boot ever again.
Now, when I first switch on I get:
    Starting SafeBoot v5.1
    Please wait...
for about a second and then a dialogue box appears in the middle of the screen:
    SafeBoot Error
    Error: 0xe002001b
    No boot disk was found
It never gets to the SafeBoot Logon screen so is still in the pre-boot stage.
I believe this is because this laptop has a build-in SATA RAID controller. We're not using the RAID setup and only have the one original disk installed. The BIOS is the latest version 1.50 and the third system setup screen shows the RAID array state to be 1RAID-0. If I set it to JBOD then I can't even get as far as installing Windows.
So far I have tried replacing the Toshiba RAID driver with the Intel 82801FBM (ICH6M) SATA AHCI 7.0.0.1020 driver. This works fine during Windows installation at the F6 stage and in Windows before encryption. I have even successfully used this driver with a WinTech CD (modified BartPE CD with SafeBoot plug-in) and am able to see the encrypted disk. However, even with this driver I get the same message once encrypted.
I am sure my SafeBoot administration and deployment is set up correctly because the same installation set works fine on a number of different laptop models, just not this one.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Thanks Jeffrey for your reply.
You are right in that the Toshiba RAID 1.3.8.0 driver is the one to use and it was the one I was using originally as it's in the corporate build that we use. I was getting the boot error with SafeBoot when using this driver which let me to try alternatives. The Toshiba RAID driver doesn't work with SafeBoot or the WinTech CD so at no point was I able to see the disk once encrypted. The Intel driver allows me to see the disk with the WinTech CD but I'm still getting the boot error if I try to boot from the hard disk. I'm guessing that I'm heading down the right track but I'm by no means certain!
As for the manual, I have already read it as it seems to contain the only information I can find. Having spoken to McAfee they suggested using a legacy/PATA compatibility mode setting in the BIOS but this RAID setting seems to be the only thing there is, which is why I felt I had to at least try the JBOD setting.
Some of the other Toshiba models I've tried (such as the Satellite Pro U300) use Intel SATA drivers at the F6 stage and SafeBoot runs fine on those so I'm not sure why I'm having so much trouble with this one. I'm guessing it might be something to do with the MBR which I believe SafeBoot modifies.

  • Need drivers for my Portege S100

    Hello,
    I have laptop, Portege S100 model: PPS10E-o1t019en
On the www I can not find this model and driver..
    Please help me.
    Where Can I find it??
    Mark

    Hello
The problem is that Satellite S100 has a RAID controller so you need the RAID driver that XP can detect the internal HDD.
As Feliks wrote you can download the from official Toshiba page under Archive.
Either you create a new bootable XP disk with RAID driver or you load them from an external floppy disk drive.

  • Hard Disk Replacement for Toshiba Portege R500-S5006X

I have a Toshiba Portege R500-S5006X which is out of warranty. I would like to replace the hard disk. What hard disk should I purchase? What is the maximum capacity (size in GB), maximum RPM speed and size in inches I can use in this laptop? Will a SATA-2 hard disk work in this laptop? Any other information I need to know about the hard disk replacment? I would be happy to get an answer from an official Toshiba technician.
    Thanks,
              dandanl

I don't know if the Toshiba people who post here are technicians, I suspect not, so you might be waiting for a while if that's the only person you would accept information from...
At any rate, the standard drive in that computer looks like it is a SATA 2.5" 9.5mm thick.
The following is a spec page for one of the stock drive options (they used a couple different drives, but pretty much equivalent)
    http://storage.toshiba.com/storagesolutions/archived-models/MK1646GSX
As far as something of a larger capacity working, it should be fine, just keep in mind that a physically larger drive might not fit, so keep the height to 9.5mm

  • Archlinux on toshiba portege p2000 (2000)

    Hi,
I just got toshiba portege 2000 from my employer with windows xp on it. I would really like to install my favourite system (archlinux) on it, but I have no idea how. The ways I excluded are:
1: CD instalation. The only cd-rom I have is on pcmcia, and I does not work on boon.
2: USB stick install. Portege 2000 wont boot from usb.
Do you have any ideas that could help me. I really like the hardware but I will give it to another employee if it doesn't run linux.
    Thanks in advance,
    mdv

Do you have a desktop computer you can take apart?  You can get adapters pretty cheaply to let you plug laptop drives into your desktop IDE controller.  So unplug all the desktops hard drives, and put the laptop drive as hda, and install as normal

  • Intall Solaris 8 on Toshiba Portege 3440CT fail

I want to install Solaris 8 intel on Toshiba Portege 3440CT. it has one USB floppy drive and one PCMCIA CD-ROM.
When I use Solais 8 boot disk to boot the system. it just only show "SunOS..." on the top left hand conner and have no response. Should anyone know what happen to it?
If it is related to USB device or fail to startup PCMCIA CD-ROM, can I create a Install server on another PC to use network installation?
If the laptop PC is not possible to install Solaris, how I can verify it? Since Solaris 8 Hardware compatilable List do not have Laptop section, Did sun provide a PC utility to test whether my laptop is Solaris compatiable?

    Hi,
Problem with PERC RAID controller card.
You try to install the driver for AIC 7899 and Dell PERC RAID controller card. In dell computers, they have dell PERC RAID controller driver for Solaris 7 version. They don't have the driver for solaris 8 version.
You can download driver for SCSI AIC 7899 from this URL:
    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?cat=/Product/ASC-39160&filekey=u160_slrs_v121_dd.img.Z
Then you check with your local dell support provider for PERC RAID controller driver for solaris 7 and solaris 8.
    Thanks.
    revert back.

  • Power Saver re-install parameter error on Portege S100

I am trying to re-install the Power Saver utility on my Portege S100 (after removing it through Control Panel | Remove Programs).
I have downloaded the S100 WinXP version of Power Saver and unzipped it. When I run the setup.exe I get a stop error message saying "The parameter is incorrect". There is no apparent documentation with the download saying what parameter is required etc.
Has anyone seen this before and/or got a suggestion on how to re-install Power Saver successfully.
    Thanks.

Thanks, and I'm sorry if I'm being dumb, but ...
... there isn't any information about installation on the driver page for the Power Saver. It says to check inside the zip file, which doesn't contain any such information either.
Also, I haven't uninstalled the Common module so I assume it is still there on my S100. I could download it and try to install it again over the top of the existing version but, without installation instructions, I don't know whether that would make things worse for all my existing Toshiba utilities even if it allowed Power Saver to reinstall correctly.
I guess I could uninstall all utilities and then reinstall ... but from what you say I would need to know the full list and correct sequence for this install.
Are you able to give me more explicit directions to the installation instructions.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Toshiba Portege R705-35 Fails to detect video cam and speakers

My Portege R705-P35 laptop has stopped detecting my video cam and speakers. I have updated the system Bios, audio (Realtek) and video drivers and recently reformated to reinstall original settings and drivers.  Nothing has worked.  The device manager does not detect the video cam or the standard speakers.  When I connect my Logitech headset through the USB port it picks up both the headset and the microphone.  Both work fine through Skype and in online videos.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and, if so, figured out the solution?

My Portege R705-P35 laptop has stopped detecting my video cam and speakers. I have....recently reformated to reinstall original settings and drivers...The device manager does not detect the video cam or the standard speakers....
This seems strange for these 2 seperate devices to both fail at the same time. You could also try a proper system reset and see if this helps bring them back.  Power off your system, unplug everything including the AC, remove the battery, press and hold down the power on button for 30 seconds, replace battery and AC, power on, when you see the Toshiba logo press the 'F2' key to enter BIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, boot into Windows, and test your webcam and speakers again.
But, when you say that you "recently reformated to reinstall original settings and drivers", do you mean that you performed a Toshiba Recovery to return your unit to its factory default out-of-the-box setup, as directed starting on page 60 of your User's Guide? This is considered the gold standard test on whether you have an actual hardware problem/failure or not.
